Margaret Jean Cowdrey Peters
April 25, 1934 - January 22, 2005
Margaret Jean Cowdrey Peters, 70, of Stayton died Jan. 22.
She was born in Heppner, Ore., to Lyle and Gladys Cowdrey. During the war, she moved to Vancouver, Wash. She graduated from Stayton High School in 1952. She married
Joe Peters, whom she met while swimming on the North Fork, on Sept. 6, 1952 in Stayton.
She enjoyed antiquing, bowling, playing pool, trips to Reno with her husband, entertaining company at Christmas and spending time with her family.
Survivors include her husband; son and daughter-in-law, Joe and Pat Peters of Stayton; daughter, Judy Fortune of Salem; daughter and son-in-law, Karen and Brian Kroeker of Salem; and grandchildren, Jennifer (Peters) Foster of Sublimity, Jordan Peters of Stayton and Mike Peters, Sara and Sadie Fortune and Maisie and Cameron Kroeker, all of Salem.
A funeral service was held at 11 a.m. today at Weddle Funeral Home, 1777 N. Third Ave., Stayton. A celebration of life will follow at Anthony Hall, 11758 S.E. Sublimity Road, Sublimity. Linda Bean
A memorial service for Linda Kathryn Bean, 50, West Linn, will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 15, 2005 at Wilsonville United Methodist Church, 7355 S.W. Wilsonville Road.
She died Friday, Jan. 7, 2005 at home following a long battle with cancer.
Mrs. Bean was born on Sept. 17, 1954 in Spokane, Wash. to Chuck and Shirley Lauerman, and was the second of eight children. She grew up in Spokane, graduating from Mead High School in 1972.
She married
Dave Bean in 1978. They had three children: Clare, Charles and Margaret.
Mrs. Bean graduated summa cum laude in 1997 from Albertson College of Caldwell, Idaho, with a bachelor’s degree in psychology. She worked in various positions as a social services specialist.
Mrs. Bean was very involved with her church. She had a special gift for working with children and youth and a heart for working with the poor. Her hobbies included gardening, sailing, reading, travel, sewing, hiking, camping, writing and art.
She is survived by her husband, the Rev. Dave Bean of Wilsonville United Methodist Church; their children Clare, Charles and Margaret Bean, all of the Portland area; her parents, Chuck and Shirley Lauerman of Spokane; sisters Marcia McDonald, Judy Klier and Teressa Riddle of Spokane; brothers Glen, Gary and Mark Lauerman of Spokane and Bruce Lauerman of Pennsylvania; and a large extended family.

Floyd W. Craigmyle
March 17, 1920 - December 9, 2004
Floyd W. Craigmyle, 84, died Dec. 9.
He was born in Fairplay, Mo., to John and Minnie Craigmyle. He was a veteran of World War II. He married
Johanna Schlyper on Aug. 24, 1945, in Holland.
He lived in Lyons for 40 years and in Salem for 10 years. He loved his family and friends. He was a member of the American Legion Post 136 and a lifetime member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 661, for whom he loved to sell poppies.
He was preceded in death by his son, Joe; granddaughter, Debbie Studebaker-McMenomy; three sisters and three brothers.
Survivors include his wife, Johanna; daughter, Maria Studebaker of Eugene; son, Bill of Salem; sisters, Betty McWilliams and Margaret Peaker of Longview, Wash.; three grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
A time of remembrance will be held 1-4 p.m. Sunday at the VFW Hall, 630 N.E. Hood, Salem, with a special tribute at 2 p.m. A private family service was held at Willamette National cemetery, Portland.

Maria Helena Jacobsen
Maria Helena Jacobsen of West Linn died Saturday, Dec. 25, 2004. She was 80.
A memory-toasting gathering was held Sunday, Jan. 9 at the Tualatin Valley Elks Lodge.
Jaobsen was born Maria Helena Riggs in Lisbon Portugal on June 2, 1924. She married
Elvin Jacobsen and worked as a homemaker most of her life.
She lived in the Portland metro area for more than 60 years.
Her hobbies included dancing and reading. She was member of the Ladies of the Elks and various book clubs. She began volunteering for the Meridian Park Hospital Auxiliary in 1981 and logged more than 12,000 hours.
She is survived by her husband, Elvin Jacobsen; a daughter, Diana Gerba, of Gleneden Beach; and two grandsons Mikhail Gerba of Donald and Ahlandis Gerba of West Linn.
Remembrances can be made to a charity of choice.
Alta C. Moffatt
April 12, 1908 - January 13, 2005
Alta C. Moffatt, 96, of Salem died Jan. 13.
She was born in Blackwell, Okla., to Otto and Viola (Lamb) Schultz. After her schooling, she married
Donald Moffatt on Sept. 16, 1937, in Minot, N.D. She and her husband lived in Mill City from 1953 to 1972, when they moved to Salem.
While in Mill City, she and her husband were active in running the local newspaper. She was a homemaker. She was a member of the Presbyterian Church and the Eastern Star in Mill City.
She was preceded in death by her husband, two brothers and a sister.
Survivors include her sons, Donavan of Salem and Brian of Phoenix, Ariz.; brother, Marvin Schultz of Spokane, Wash.; and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
A private family service was held. Arrangements: Weddle Funeral Home, Stayton.
Ernest R. Russell
Ernest R. Russell, 86, died January 2, 2005.
A funeral service was held Thursday, Jan. 6 at Cornwell Colonial Chapel in Wilsonville.
Russell was born August 12, 1918 in Fontanelle, Iowa. He was married
to Pauline V. Swift from 1945 to 1988 and Diane Darline Adams (Breault) in 1995.
He was a farmer and a welder, primarily employed by Peerless Tank & Trailer. He lived in the area for more than 60 years.
He was a member of the Odd Fellows and a member and past grand master of the Frog Pond Grange.
Hobbies included square dancing, handyman work and volunteering at the Wilsonville Community Center.
He is survived by his wife, Diane Darline Adams of Woodburn; sons Bruce Birtchet of Scappose, Patrick Russell of Salem and Joy Russell of Bainbridge Island, Wash.; daughters: Betty TomSuden of Troutdale and Pearl Herkamp of Canby; two brothers: Bruce Russell of Woodburn and Frank Russell of Washington, Iowa and a sister: Margaret Jameson of Des Moines, Iowa; 10 grandchildren and many great grandchildren.
Remembrances can be made to the Wilsonville Community Center.
John F. Eilers
WILSONVILLE -- Lifetime Oregonian John F. Eilers died May 21, 2002 at his home in Wilsonville. He was 85.
Born May 30, 1916, in Aurora, he lived on Eilers Road until moving to SpringRidge at Charbonneau 18 months ago.
He attended the one-room school which sits on the grounds of St. Francis of Assisi Episcopal Church near I-5, then graduated from Canby High School.
He won a football scholarship to Oregon State College, where he played three years of varsity ball. He was a member of Kappa Sigma fraternity.
A U.S. Army captain during World War II, he served four years in the South Pacific.
He was a 40-year member of the Lions Club and enjoyed playing golf, tennis and bridge.
Survivors include his wife, Mary Fay of Wilsonville; sons Dr. J.T. and Tom, both of Lake Oswego; and four grandchildren. Two brothers preceded him in death.
A celebration of life reception is planned for 1 p.m. Saturday, May 25, at SpringRidge. Commitment was at Portland Memorial Crematorium and Mausoleum.
Mabel V. Pendleton
November 25, 1912 - January 24, 2005
Mabel V. Pendleton, 92, of Stayton died Jan. 24.
She was born in Benton County, Ore. She was a homemaker and she also ran Stayton Variety Store from 1950 to 1966, when she sold the store.
She married
Harold on Dec. 26, 1960, in Eugene. He preceded her in death in 1995.
She did volunteer work such as serving hot lunch at Stayton High School and working with the Chamber of Commerce. She enjoyed golf.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, Everette Kaiser in 1950 and a son, Donald Kaiser in 2003.
Survivors include her daughter, Roxanne Carrick of Harvard, Idaho; stepdaughter, Linda Branch of Stayton; stepson, Robert Pendleton of Stayton; 10 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
Visiting will be held 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. at Weddle Funeral Home, 1777 N. Third Ave., Stayton. Services are at 11 a.m. Friday at Weddle Funeral Home. Interment is at Lone Oak cemetery. Remembrances: Santiam Memorial Hospital, 1401 N. 10th Ave., Stayton.
Clydell Marie Simmons
ESTACADA — Clydell Marie Simmons of Estacada died of a brain aneurysm Friday, March 26, 2004, at Portland Adventist Hospital. She was 56.
A memorial service will be held at Clackamas Valley Baptist Church in Eastacada at 2 p.m. Wednesday, March 31, with Pastor Bill Griggs officiating. Burial will be at Willamette National cemetery.
She was born May 22, 1947, in Fron, Mo., to Clyde and Pauline Gardner.
He attended schools in the Portland and Vancouver areas.
Clydell married
Bill Simmons on Dec. 5, 1966, in Benson, Ariz. She was a loving and devoted wife, mother and grandmother, family say. Clydell belonged to Valley Baptist Church in Estacada.
She is survived by husband Bill Simmons; sons Bill Simmons Jr. of Portland, Brian Simmons of Portland, Troy Simmons of Heppner, and Travis Simmons of Wilsonville; and seven grandchildren.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Clackamas Valley Baptist Church. Estacada Funeral Chapel is in care of arrangements.
Earl Clinton Freeman
May 21, 1914 - December 8, 2004
Earl Clinton Freeman, 90, of Lebanon died Dec. 8.
He was born in Silver Falls, Ore., to David and Sarah Freeman, the youngest of nine children. He served in the U.S. Navy on an aircraft carrier during World War II. He worked in the plywood industry for 28 years, retiring in the 1970s.
He enjoyed volunteer work, which he did at the Lebanon Senior Center, Aldersgate Conference Center and youth camps. He also enjoyed fishing and camping with family, friends and grandchildren. He loved music and loved to laugh. He was a member of the Lebanon Free Methodist Church.
His wife, Erma I. Stearns, whom he married
on July 31, 1945, survives.
Other survivors include his daughters, Fran McCraven, Erma Thompson and Ellen Rannings, all of Lebanon; seven grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren.
A memorial service was held at Lebanon Free Methodist Church. Graveside services were held at Lone Oak cemetery, Stayton. Arrangements: Weddle Funeral Home, Stayton.
