Marion Carney
Marion Isabell Carney of Wilsonville died Nov. 7, 2003, at the Windfield Village Assisted Living Center. She was 91. No services will be held.
She was born June 9, 1912, in Canby to James and Alice Pitts.
Marion’s mother was a McArthur, who sailed from Scotland to Pennsylvania then came west to Oregon with nine children, settling in Canby and Canemah in 1871 and then New Era in 1873.
Marion graduated from Canby High School in 1930, and then two years attending college.
She married
James P. Carney on June 15, 1936, at the St Mary’s Cathedral in Portland.
Marion enjoyed sports, and especially enjoyed playing basketball and softball. She also liked other sports, playing golf, and watching the Blazers and Mariners. She was a member of the Lake Oswego Golf Club.
Her brother, Rodney Pitts, is in the painting on the side of the Police Station in Canby. He is the one holding the bundle of grain.
She was also a member of St. Frances of Assisi Church in Wilsonville.
Survivors include sister Barbara J. Bowles of Salem; three nieces; and four nephews.
She was preceded in death by husband James in 1967, sister Dorothy Weygandt in 1991, and brothers Roy in 1943, Richard in 1977, and Rodney in 1998.

Elsie Leila Mix
May 7, 1915 - December 16, 2004
Elsie Leila Mix, 89, of Aumsville died Dec. 16.
She was born in Elgin, Neb. She moved to Oregon in 1920 and settled in Fruitland. She was a homemaker. She also lived in Pratum and Aumsville.
She was a member of Bethel Baptist Church in Aumsville. She enjoyed crocheting, sewing, reading and flower gardening.
Her husband, John, whom she married
on June 1, 1941 in Fruitland, preceded her in death in 1997.
Survivors include her daughter, Carolyn Radford of Salem; son, Jerold Mix of Sunriver, Ore.; brother, Glenn Miller of Sacramento, Calif.; six grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. Jan. 5 at Bethel Baptist Church, Aumsville. Private interment was at Aumsville cemetery. Remembrances: Women's Mission Fellowship at Bethel Baptist, Aumsville. Arrangements: Weddle Funeral Home, Stayton.
Marilyn Bolton
A graveside service was held at Willamette National cemetery, Thursday, Jan. 22, 2004 at 1pm, for Marilyn Jean Johnson Bolton, of Wilsonville. She died on Jan. 19, 2004 at the age of 77.
Marilyn was born in Fort Scott, Kan., on May 30, 1926. She married
Donald Bolton in 1949. She was a bookkeeper for Newport Floor Covering, and a homemaker. She moved to Wilsonville 15 years ago. Her hobbies were cooking, needlework, painting, and being active in the United Methodist Church.
She is survived by her husband, Donald A. Bolton of Wilsonville; her son Donald Raymond Bolton of Woodburn; and six grandchildren. Cornwell Colonial Chapel, Wilsonville, is in care of the arrangements.
Richard Inman
AURORA — Richard Terrell Inman of Aurora died Jan. 17, 2004. He was 83.
A private graveside service with military honors was be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 21, at the Willamette National cemetery in Portland.
He was born May 9, 1920, in Saltilla, Texas.
After retiring from the U.S. Navy as a chief petty officer, he moved to the Portland area in 1965. He married
Jean Imlay in 1976.
He worked in building maintenance at Tektronix. He was a member of the Masons, Elks and Veterans of Foreign Wars.
He is survived by wife Jean Inman of Aurora; daughters Mary Francis Hutchison of Elkhart, Ind., Terrie Soto of Astoria and Becky Paxton of Gearhart; sons Richard Inman of Florida and Dennis Betzer of Spanaway, Wash.; sister Francis Gardner of Garland, Texas; 14 grandchldren; and 17 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by bother Buddy Inman of Fortt Worth, Texas.
Cornwell Colonial Funeral Chapel of Wilsonville was in care of arrangements.
Arnett Johnson
A memorial service was held Friday, Dec. 2 at Valley Christian Church for Arnett “Abe” B. Johnson, 79, of Wilsonville, who died Nov. 26, 2005.
Mr. Johnson was born Sept. 13, 1926 in Seattle. He married
Starly Hodges; they later divorced. He graduated from the University of Oregon with a degree in business administration and played football. He moved from the Eugene area to Charbonneau in 1981.
Mr. Johnson’s hobbies included piloting, golf, tennis, football, fishing, domestic and international travel, and dancing.
He was a member of the Charbonneau Tennis Club, the Charbonneau Country Club, the Tyee Yacht Club, the Elks Club, the Rotary Club, the Civil Air Patrol of Eugene, the Duck Athletic Association, the Oregon Club of Portland, and Kappa Sigma fraternity. He held season football tickets to the Oregon Ducks and was an avid supporter. Mr. Johnson married
Laraine Johnson in 2003.
Mr. Johnson is survived by his wife, Laraine, at home; his former wife Starly Hodges; sons Todd Johnson of Wilsonville, Tracey Johnson of Durham and Tim Johnson of Eugene; sister Evalyn Byers of Spokane; and six grandchildren.
Remembrances may be made to the Abe Johnson Athletic Scholarship Fund at the University of Oregon, 2727 Leo Harris Parkway, Eugene, OR, 97401. Arrangements were in care of Cornwell Colonial Chapel of Wilsonville.
Ted Reisch
January 13, 1926 - January 10, 2005
Ted Reisch, 78, of Salem died Jan. 10.
He was born in Rosalia, Kan. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He worked for Stayton Canning Co. for more than 20 years as a field representative.
He was a member of the Willamette Valley Agriculture Professional Association. He enjoyed gardening, traveling, bowling and shopping.
Survivors include his wife, Lleana Dittman, whom he married
on May 29, 1943; son, Dennis of Pasco, Wash.; brothers, Loy of Tonkanwa, Okla., and Fred of Olympia, Wash.; grandchildren, Michelle Erickson of Irrigon, Ore., and Brad Reisch of Pasco, Wash.; and great-grandchildren, Derrick and Wil Erickson, and Austin, Anthony and Michael Reisch.
Services were held at Weddle Funeral Home, Stayton. Remembrances: Oregon Health and Science University Cardiac Intensive Care.
Richard Philbrook
No services will be held for Richard E. Philbrook, 79, formerly of Wilsonville.
He was born on April 10, 1926 in Garibaldi. He died Nov. 26., 2005 at home in Vancouver, Wash.
Mr. Philbrook grew up in Longview, Wash. He served in the U.S. Navy in World War II. After graduating from sound school he was a sonar man working on submarines in the Pacific. He also served on the U.S. Taylor.
He returned to Longview after the war.
He was vice president, director and part owner of California Saw and Knife Works of San Francisco.
He retired in 1989. He served as director of the Oregon Golf Association, as a founding member and director of the Charbonneau Men’s Golf Club, and as a director of the Charbonneau Country Club.
Mr. Philbrook is survived by his wife of 57 years, Maria, at home; daughters Maria (Kris) McFadden of The Dalles, Adehiede (Heide) Sheppard of Sandy, Angela (Chelle) Brunke of Whidbey Island, Wash., and Anne Marie Philbrook of Walnut Creek, Calif., and Vancouver, Wash.; sons Richard (Phil) Philbrook of Martinez, Calif. and Martin (Joe) Philbrook of Portland; brother F.L. (Fran) Philbrook of Longview; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials in the form of a toy donated to a deserving child this Christmas season.
Virgene Eva Scott
October 6, 1910 - December 24, 2004
Virgene Eva Scott, 94, of Lyons died Dec. 24.
She was born in Ola, Idaho, the granddaughter of an Oregon Trail pioneer. She lived most of her life in Oregon, the last 62 years on a farm in Lyons. She graduated from Aumsville High School, where she was captain of the women’s basketball team.
She was a charter member of the Lyons Garden Club, and a member of the United Methodist Women’s church group and United Methodist Church in Lyons, where she was very involved. She enjoyed gardening, canning and camping.
She was a seamstress, making clothes for her daughters including both their wedding dresses. She was also known for being a good driver, not receiving a ticket or having an accident in 77 years.
Her husband, Harley Marion Scott, whom she married
on June 7, 1931, preceded her in death on Aug. 28, 1981. A son, Lynn Scott, also preceded her in death.
Survivors include her daughters and sons-in-law, Maxine and Frank McDowell of Mehama and Joyce and Stephen Foltz of Lyons; brother, Walter “Bud” Johnson of Stayton; sister, Dorothy Downer of Stayton; nine grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and 13 great-great-grandchildren.
Services were held at 2 p.m. today at Weddle Funeral Home, Stayton. Interment was at Union Hill cemetery. Remembrances: Union Hill cemetery Association, Lyons Ambulance or Union Hill Grange Building Fund.
Ann Graham
A celebration of life service for Ann “Annie” Camille Graham of Wilsonville will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 5, 2005 at Charbonneau Country Club, 32000 S.W. Charbonneau Drive.
She died Jan. 20, 2005 at home in Charbonneau, following a battle with leukemia, while surrounded by family. She was 76.
Mrs. Graham was born Sept. 27, 1928 in Utica, N.Y. to Alan and Josephine Marshall. The family moved to Vancouver, Wash. in 1943. She graduated from Providence Academy in 1947.
Ann married
Robert G. Graham in 1957 in Portland. Over the years they lived in Spokane; Kailua, Hawaii; Portland; and Charbonneau.
Ann was a longtime community volunteer and philanthropist. She supported the American Humane Society and the Costeau Society, and volunteered with Meals on Wheels, the Clackamas County Department of Human Services and the Vancouver Genealogical Society. Additionally, she enjoyed music, art, fine wines, entertaining and taking college courses for enrichment.
Mrs. Graham is survived by her husband Bob, at home; son and daughter-in-law Scott and Karen Graham of Spokane; son and daughter-in-law Brent and Joanne Graham of Brush Prairie, Wash.; brother Tony Papalia of San Leandro, Calif; five grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
Arrangements were handled by Vancouver Memorial Gardens. Ann requested donations to the Humane Society or charity of choice in lieu of flowers.
Jeannie Sawyer
A memorial service was held Jan. 4, 2005 at Bethany Community Church in Tempe, Ariz, for Jeannie Lynn Sawyer, 44, of Chandler, Ariz.
A former Wilsonville resident, she died at home on Dec. 29, 2004.
Mrs. Sawyer was born March 15, 1960 in Phoenix, Ariz. She graduated from Camelback High School in Scottsdale, Ariz, in 1978 and Eugene Bible College in 1982. She later earned a master’s degree in education from Western Oregon University in 1997.
She married
Bruce Sawyer, and they had two children. The Sawyer family lived in Wilsonville from 1987-1999 and helped establish Wilsonville Foursquare Church.
Mrs. Sawyer worked at Wilsonville Primary School from 1992-1995 and at Aloha Park Elementary from 1997-1999 as an instructional assistant and a special education teacher.
Her passions were reading, gardening, and home repair and remodeling.
Mrs. Sawyer was preceded in death by her father, Gene Thome. She is survived by her husband, Bruce, son Jared Sawyer and daughter Lindsay Sawyer, all of Chandler; her mother, Sylvia Eastin of Pinetop, Ariz.; her sister, Julie Markezich of Portland; and her brother, Rob Thome, also of Portland.
