Grant E. Blanch
July 4, 1915 - July 4, 1999
CORVALLIS - Grant Etherington Blanch, 84, of Corvallis died Sunday.
He was born and grew up in West Weber, Utah, the son of Joseph and Laura (Etherington) Blanch. He graduated from Weber County High School in Ogden, Utah, and served a mission in England for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
As a teen he worked on his parents' farm and at a Del Monte vegetable packing plant in the summers. He earned a bachelor's degree in 1940 and a master's degree in 1941, both in agriculture economics from Utah State University. He received his doctorate from Cornell University in New York in 1944.
He married
EmmaDell Hanson on Aug. 25, 1941, in Logan, Utah. They soon moved to Brookings, S.D., and in 1945 moved to Corvallis.
Dr. Blanch started as an associate professor in the Oregon State University Department of Agricultural Economics and spent 35 years on the faculty, retiring in 1980. He was a teacher and researcher and three times served as acting head of his department for extended periods. He conducted estate planning workshops throughout Oregon for five winters.
He and his family spent two years in the 1950s in Bangkok, Thailand, while he was a visiting professor.
Dr. Blanch was technical leader for a U.S. Department of Agriculture sponsored agricultural marketing and finance team from Japan. He represented OSU at an international conference in Cuernavaca, Mexico; and was the Western States Consortium for International Development representative to Tehran, Iran, considering a proposed bank contract.
His many awards included the Marion County Farm Bureau's Outstanding Service Award and the Benton County Farm Bureau's Top Hand Award. He was made an honorary lifetime member of the National Institute of Farm and Land Brokers.
Dr. Blanch was a founder of the OSU Federal Credit Union, serving as a member and chairman of the board. He served on three other corporate boards.
He held many leadership positions in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, including as a patriarch for the Corvallis Stake.
Surviving are wife EmmaDell; sons Richard of Round Rock, Texas, and Douglas of Lexington, Ky.; daughter Carol Flory of Salem; 14 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. Four brothers and four sisters died earlier.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at DeMoss-Durdan Garden Chapel and 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Friday at the Harrison Boulevard Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Dr. Blanch's funeral will be at 11 a.m. Friday at the church, followed by burial at Oak Lawn Memorial Park.

Ronald D. Pemble
Dec. 28, 1953 - July 2, 1999
Former Albany resident Ronald David Pemble, 45, of Bend died Friday.
He was born in Hot Springs, Mont., and lived mostly in Montana, Alaska and Oregon. He attended schools in Libby, Mont.
Mr. Pemble operated a painting business in Albany in the 1970s, and then moved to Anchorage, Alaska, where he was a beverage company sales representative.
He was known as a jack of all trades and a skillful, creative house painter. He enjoyed lending a helping hand and was a good cook.
At family gatherings, he was a practical joker and a comedian.
Surviving are children Justin and Pausha Pemble of Portland; parents Esther and Bill Pemble of Albany; brothers Jim of Eugene, Bob of Port Orchard, Wash., and Joe of Libby, Mont.; sisters Carla Gjertsen of Sitka, Alaska, and Shelley Derryberry and Patti Eskeli, both of Albany; and former wife Trish Kennedy of Hubbard.
A celebration of Mr. Pemble's life will be at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at St. Mary's Catholic Church, 728 Ellsworth St. S.W.
Daniel Alan Bishop
March 26, 1953 - July 5, 1999
LEBANON - Daniel Alan Bishop, 46, of Lebanon died Monday at his home of cancer.
Mr. Bishop was born in Newport to Charles and Verna (Weaver) Bishop, and moved from Siletz to Lebanon in 1956. He attended Lebanon schools and graduated from high school in 1971.
He was an automobile painter for Friendship Ford of Lebanon.
He married
Julie Berry on Dec. 13, 1980, in Salem.
Mr. Bishop enjoyed camping with his family, restoring old cars and belonging to the Rollin' Oldies Car Club.
Surviving are wife Julie; sons Kevin and Cody, both of Lebanon; mother and stepfather Verna and Jim Nichols of Lebanon; parents-in-law Bob and Betty Berry of Lebanon; sister Nancy Holmes of Salem; and a nephew and two nieces.
Father Charles died in 1985.
A memorial service will be at 10 a.m. Friday at the Lebanon American Legion Hall, 480 Main St. A private burial service was at the Lebanon I.O.O.F. cemetery.

Woodsie C. Gibbs
March 10, 1924 - June 6, 1999
LEBANON - Woodsie Charles Gibbs, 75, of Lebanon died Tuesday at Lebanon Community Hospital.
He was born and grew up in Lily, Wis., the son of Woodsie and America (Arrwood) Gibbs. He served in the Army during World War II.
He married
Katherine "Katie" Wakely on Dec. 17, 1945, in Crandon, Wis., and they moved to Hood River in 1946. They moved to Lebanon in 1950.
Mr. Gibbs worked many years as a timber faller and retired from Champion International Plywood in 1986. In Lebanon he belonged to St. Edwards Catholic Church, the Santiam Post of the American Legion and the Moose Lodge.
He liked spending time with his family and enjoyed hunting, fishing and camping.
Surviving are wife Katie; daughters Kathy Peters and Patricia Gibson, both of Lebanon, and Barbara Gibbs of Albany; son Charles of Lebanon; brothers Elmer of Lebanon and Steve of Cottage Grove; sister Millie Wolf of Eugene; eight grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at St. Edwards Catholic Church. Huston-Jost Funeral Home is handling arrangements.
Kloeck-Jenson family
Barbara and Scott Kloeck-Jenson, both 34, and their children Zoe, 5, and Noah, 2, died June 23 in an auto accident in South Africa. They are the family of Marty Kloeck of Albany.
The Kloeck-Jensons worked in Mozambique, Africa, where they lived a life of service to the local people and government.
Barbara and Scott met after college while serving in the Peace Corps in Lesotho, Africa. They were married
for nine years. The Kloeck-Jenson family touched many lives through teaching and service.
Barbara is survived by parents Marty Kloeck of Albany and Philip Kloeck of Silverton, siblings Mike Kloeck of Boise, Idaho, Patrick Kloeck of Salem and Stephanie Kloeck of Albany; and grandparents John and Lois Kloeck of Seattle.
Her other grandparents, Clem and Margaret Clement, died earlier.
Funeral services and burial were in Long Lake, Minn. A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Friday at St. Mary's Catholic Church of Albany, with Father John Betts officiating.

Virginia M. Ralston
Oct. 3, 1923 - July 5, 1999
Virginia M. Ralston, 75, of Albany died Monday in Eugene.
She was born in Litchfield, Minn., moved to Albany in 1940 and graduated from Albany High School in 1941. Her parents were Lester and Ida (Schultz) Olson.
She married
Robert T. Ralston on Jan. 31, 1943, in Albany, and was a homemaker. Her husband owned Ralston Motor Co. in Albany for 30 years. He died Dec. 25, 1991.
Mrs. Ralston especially enjoyed her family and also liked painting. An active member of the United Presbyterian Church, she served as an elder and a deacon. She was a charter member of the Albany General Hospital Auxiliary.
Surviving are son Steve of Mililani, Hawaii; daughter Sheri Ralston Vance of Eugene; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Brother Orville "Ole" Olson died earlier.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Fisher Funeral Home. A graveside service will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Willamette Memorial Park, with the Rev. Glenn Edwards officiating.

Robert David Santos
Jan. 1, 1952 - July 2, 1999
Robert David "Bob" Santos, 47, of Albany died Friday in a car accident on Riverside Drive.
He was born in Chalan Pago, Guam, the son of Joaquin and Carmen (Isezaki) Santos. He earned his doctorate in higher education from the University of North Texas.
He married
Elaine Pudwill in September 1975, in Elko, Nev. They moved to Albany in 1993.
Dr. Santos was an instructor at Linn-Benton Community College and Western Oregon University. He was working as a professor for Long Distance Education Universities and was a personal fitness instructor.
He was involved in sports as a coach and wrote a fundamental instruction book on basketball. He belonged St. Mary's Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus and enjoyed the outdoors.
A statement issued by his children said:
"Throughout his work Bob Santos was dedicated to fulfillment in both professional and personal associations. His philosophies on life included a strong relationship with the concepts of high moral values, culture, and family. He provided example and mentoring to others as to leadership qualities and positive community involvement. Moreover, he strove to achieve a total cohesion of his mind, body and soul, for himself and everyone he encountered."
Dr. Santos is survived by wife Elaine; sons Zane of Denton, Texas, and Makao and Shane, both of Albany; daughter Deylene Santos of Albany; brothers Tomas of Georgia and Jesse and Arthur, both of Guam; sisters Francisca Santos of Guam; and grandchild Zarin.
Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at Fisher Funeral Home. Memorial Mass will be at 2:30 p.m. Friday at the church, with Father John Betts officiating.
Contributions in his memory may be made to St. Mary's Catholic Church.
Peggy LaCoste
June 16, 1944 - July 3, 1999
BROWNSVILLE - Peggy LaCoste, 55, of Brownsville died Saturday.
She was born in Wagner, S.D., third in a family of nine children. She attended 14 schools while growing up and made friends easily. She graduated in 1962 from Banning High School in Wilmington, Calif., where she played the lead in the school play and gave the commencement address to her class of more than 1,000.
She married
Jim LaCoste in February 1964. Their five children were born in the next five years. The family moved to Brownsville in 1978.
The LaCostes owned and operated Howe Garage and they started Brownsville Auto Parts & Service. They recently sold the auto parts business to son Steve.
Mrs. LaCoste was active in the Brownsville community and served on the Recreation Center Board. She was the first woman president of the Brownsville Chamber of Commerce and had been a Pioneer Picnic court chaperone.
She belonged to St. Helen's Catholic Church in Sweet Home and was a member of the church council. She also served as the children's religious education teacher.
While helping to run the business and attending to her civic responsibilities, she was also running a household and taking children to football, gymnastics, wrestling and other activities.
Her nephews joined the family in 1979 and 1981. At one time the household had seven teenagers. All of the LaCoste children graduated from Oregon State University.
After the children were grown, the LaCostes traveled, visiting Europe, Australia, New York, the Caribbean, Hawaii, Indonesia the Bahamas and Alaska.
Mrs. LaCoste is survived by husband Jim; children Steve of Brownsville; Danny and Joe, both of Albany, Kevin of Salem and Angie of Lacey, Wash.; 15 grandchildren; and nephews Rick Morrow of Brownsville and David Morrow of the Oregon coast.
Recitation of the Rosary was Monday and Funeral Mass was this morning at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Albany, with Father Andrew Harris officiating. Burial is scheduled at 3:15 p.m. today at Gilliland cemetery in Sweet Home. AAsum Funeral Home is handling arrangements.
Marian C. Libbrecht
May 18, 1922 - June 22, 1999
CORVALLIS - Marian Claudia (Campbell) Libbrecht, 77, of Corvallis died June 22 at home.
She was born, grew up and graduated from high school in Gooding, Idaho, the daughter of Claude and Ester (Low) Campbell. In 1942 she graduated from Glad Tidings Bible Institute in San Francisco, and she attended business college in 1943.
She married
John J. Libbrecht in 1944. They had two daughters.
Mrs. Libbrecht moved with her daughters to Orofino, Idaho, in 1952, to Clarkston, Wash. in 1956 and to Corvallis in 1964.
She worked for the Oregon State University Department of Housing before retiring in 1987.
Mrs. Libbrecht was an avid reader, enjoyed family gatherings and liked crabbing on the Oregon coast.
Surviving are daughters Donita Stockton of White Swan, Wash., and Mysti Weber of Corvallis; brother Donovan Campbell of Twin Falls, Idaho; sisters Beulah Schwartzkopf of Lewiston, Idaho, and Jacqueline Robinson of Twin Falls, Idaho; and grandchildren, Williams Libbrecht, Teena Stockton and Shawna and Alix Weber.
Sister Alma Conant died earlier.
At Mrs. Libbrecht's request, a private service is planned. McHenry Funeral Home is handling arrangements.
