Clinton McCann
Oct. 3, 1920 - April 10, 1999
Clinton McCann, 78, of Albany died Saturday at home.
He was born in Roseland, Neb., to Chris and Mamie (Hoylman) McCann. He moved with his family to a Northwest homestead in the Camas Valley, and attended Camas Valley Grade School.
He moved to Albany and built a home with his wife, Lois. She died Feb. 23, 1996.
Mr. McCann had worked at a Corvallis Dairy and had been a plywood worker. He belonged to the Albany Elks and Eagles lodges, and had been a former officer of the Elks.
Surviving are son Dennis of San Diego, Calif.; daughter Kathleen Walter of Albany; sister Velda Looney of Roseburg; and four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Brothers Melvin and Wilber died in childhood and sister Ruby Sherman died Jan. 14, 1997.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Fisher Funeral Home. Mr. McCann's funeral will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home, followed by burial at Jefferson cemetery. Pastor Martin Haase will officiate.

John Gregory Dompier
December 2, 1957 - June 7, 2007
John Gregory Dompier, 49, of Sweet Home died Thursday. He was born in Spokane, Washington to John and Diane (Heineman) Dompier in 1957.
John came to Oregon in 1986 and settled in Sweet Home in 1989. In 1992 he married
Linda Matheny in Lebanon; the couple resided in Sweet Home attending Community Chapel on Ames Creek.
He worked for Linn County Public and Mental Health as a Computer Technician. John enjoyed relaxing in his hot tub, going to the coast and getting together with friends. He loved his family very much.
John is survived by wife, Linda Dompier, of Sweet Home; children, Christina Dompier of Ashton, Idaho, Stephanie Dompier of Sweet Home, Andrew Vosgien of Albany, and Michelle Vosgien of Albany; father, John Neal Dompier; brothers, Robert and Timothy of Spokane, Washington, and James of Honolulu, Hawaii; and many friends.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Diane, in 2003.
Service will be Tuesday, June 12, at 11 am at Community Chapel on Ames Creek. Sweet Home Funeral Chapel will be handling the arrangements.
Edith Rose Nichols
Jan. 5, 1916 - April 9, 1999
Edith Rose Nichols, 83, of Albany died Friday.
She was born in Montrose, Colo., to Ivan and Josephine (Armitage) Kerr. As a child she lived in Pueblo, Colo., where she graduated from high school. She worked as a cook in a Colorado hospital.
She moved to Oregon in 1942, and was a cook in the kitchen at Camp Adair. She married
Nick Nichols on Dec. 26, 1942, in the Camp Adair Chapel. Mr. Nichols died in 1973.
The Nicholses bought some land in Albany and built and operated Nick's Steakhouse. They sold the restaurant and started Nichols Garden Nursery on Old Salem Road in the late 1940s. For many years the nursery has been nationally known for its mail-order business.
Until recently, Mrs. Nichols was active in the business.
She enjoyed gardening, writing, cooking, reading, classical music and her family. She also liked traveling and had been to Greece, England, Holland, Hawaii and Alaska.
Surviving are daughters Rose McGee of Corvallis and Gloria Rhoades of Bellingham, Wash.; brother Roy Kerr of Pueblo, Colo.; sister Ruth Radacy of Denver; grandchildren David and Katie McGee and Emily Rhoades; three nephews; and a niece.
Brother Dale Kerr died earlier.
Visitation will be from 2:30 until 8 p.m. today at AAsum Funeral Home. Mrs. Nichols' funeral will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Albany United Presbyterian Church, with Pastor Glenn Edwards officiating. Private burial will be at Willamette Memorial Park.

Ellen Priepke Mitchell
Aug. 6, 1922 - April 8, 1999
Ellen Priepke Mitchell, 76, of Albany died Thursday at Albany General Hospital.
She was born in The Dalles, the daughter of Hans Peter and Dagmar Marie Jensen. She married
Edward Priepke Feb. 12, 1943, and they moved to Albany. Mr. Priepke died Dec. 1, 1964.
She married
Raymond Mitchell April 6, 1968, and he died April 17, 1988.
In the 1960s Mrs. Mitchell had owned and operated Pauline's Sportswear in downtown Albany.
She was a former member of Faith Lutheran Church who especially enjoyed crocheting and spending time with her family.
Surviving are sons Peter Priepke of Crystal Lake, Ill., and Edward Priepke of Albany; daughter Linda Priepke Hunter of Gresham; and grandchildren Hans Peter, Sarah, Becky and Bethany Priepke.
The funeral for Mrs. Mitchell will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Fisher Funeral Home, with Pastor Cindy Lindner officiating. Private burial will be at Willamette Memorial Park.

Irma Phillips
May 27, 1920 - May 6, 2007
Irma Phillips, 86, of Sweet Home died Sunday. She was born to Fredrick and Velma (Leabo) Molzan in Washington.
Irma was married
in Oregon. She was a longtime resident of Sweet Home.
Irma is survived by two sons, eight grandchildren, and ten great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Don Phillips, two sons, and one granddaughter.
Irma Phillips will have graveside services at Lewis cemetery, 1:00 pm Monday, May 14. Sweet Home Funeral Chapel is handling the services.
Brian James “BJ” Gilbert

Brian James “BJ” Gilbert, 21, died Monday. He was born in Lebanon.
He lived in Sweet Home and Lebanon all his life until recently moving to Salem. He held various odd jobs and enjoyed fishing, camping, swimming, and horseback riding and helping friends and family.
He is survived by his father and stepmother, Delbert and Charlotta Gilbert; mother, Marie A. Harden; sisters, Amy Baldwin of Spencer, Iowa and Lilly Ann Gilbert; fiancée, Sherrie Oliver of Sweet Home; grandparents, Ruth Tate of Lebanon and Dem and Lola Baldwin of Davenport, Iowa; and many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his sister, Melissa Sue Gilbert; grandparents, Eva and Brian James “BJ” Hamilton and Roy W. Tate; and uncle, Ronald E. Gilbert.
A celebration of life is planned for a later date. Donations to help defray funeral costs for Brian and medical bills for Lilly Ann Gilbert can be made to any U.S. Bank.
Helen M. King
Jan. 24, 1924 - April 1, 1999
Helen M. King, 75, of Albany died April 1 after a long battle with emphysema.
The daughter of Anton and Helena Melavic, she was born and grew up in Salida, Colo., where she graduated from high school. She had lived in California and Alaska.
She married
Richard King in 1955 in Fairbanks, Alaska. After his death in 1969, she moved to Albany.
In Albany, Mrs. King was a successful businesswoman in real estate and insurance. She was a mentor to and coached others in these professions and was active in many professional organizations.
Known to be devoted to her family, she was like a second mom to many of her children's friends.
Surviving are daughters Rebecca (Gray) Phipps of Fairbanks; and Margaret King of Albany; son Richard of Albany; and brother Frank Melavic of Salida, Colo.
At Mrs. King's request, there will be no services. Contributions in her name may be made to Evergreen Hospice in Albany or to a charity of the donor's choice.
Anthony M. Tenbusch
August 27, 1966 - April 23, 2007
Anthony Tenbusch, 40, of Sweet Home died Monday. He was born to David and Barbara (Harper) Tenbusch in Sweet Home, OR.
Anthony and his family traveled the world with his father in the Navy. He began high school in California, but when his family retired they relocated in Sweet Home where he attended high school. As an adult he traveled to different areas, finding work along the way in food service and other employment. Most recently Anthony worked for a private in-home health care facility in Albany.
He was a great artist with abilities that go beyond words. He was also a good cook and loved to bake. He was a perfectionist and strived to be independent.
Anthony was survived by parents, David and Barbara Tenbusch of Sweet Home; sisters, Taralynn Yvonne Rathbun of Lebanon and Jamie Louise Frederick of Morrell, Neb.; many aunts and ancles; six nephews; and friends from all over.
A service will be held 10:00 am Saturday, April 28, at Sweet Home Funeral Chapel. Sweet Home Funeral Chapel will be handling the arrangements.
Elmer John Boshart
March 31, 1919 - April 7, 1999
Elmer John Boshart, 80, of Albany died Wednesday at Albany Care Center.
He was born in Shickley, Neb., to Daniel and Lulu (Birky) Boshart. He grew up in Colorado and married
Dorcas Dettwiler in La Junta, Colo. In 1984 they moved to Albany to be near their daughter.
Mr. Boshart had worked as a farmer and as a machinist for Nibco. A member of the Prince of Peace Mennonite Church, he loved to garden.
Surviving are wife Dorcas; daughter Ferne Lorain of Corvallis; brother Lee of Hutchinson, Kan.; sisters Mary Boshart and Mabel Sciumbato, both of La Junta; and five grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
Sons Dwight and Ted died in infancy and Kenneth in 1997; sister Elizabeth Bangert died before Mr. Boshart.
Visitation will be from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday at McHenry Funeral Home in Corvallis. Mr. Boshart's funeral will be at 2 p.m. Monday at the Prince of Peace Mennonite Church in Adair Village. Burial will follow at Oakville cemetery.

Norman Danielson
Nov. 22, 1914 - April 7, 1999
Norman Danielson, 84, of Albany died Wednesday.
He was born in Webster, Wis., the eldest of 10 children of Peter and Etta (Guetchow) Danielson. He attended Webster High School, joined the Civilian Conservation Corps, and worked on Grand Coulee Dam, which was completed in 1941.
He joined the Navy the day after the bombing of Pearl Harbor and served in the South Pacific.
After majoring in electrical engineering at Purdue University in Indiana, he moved to Oregon and was an electrician. He worked on Detroit Dam, finished in 1952, and later worked for Wah Chang and Linco Electric.
He married
Madeline Frakes in June of 1956. She died in Nov. 1986.
Mr. Danielson was an avid sportsman, a Golden Glove boxer and a baseball player. He enjoyed hunting and fishing.
He is survived by son Ray of Albany; daughter Dianne Danielson of Hillsboro; sisters Lillian Stockfish of Milwaukee, Wis., Mildred Hyer of Eugene, Gladys Anderson of West Linn, and Ellen Eaton of Sun City Center, Fla.; and many nieces and nephews.
Brothers Coleman, Arlen, Albin and Gordon and sister Marie Hagan died earlier.
Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. today at AAsum Funeral Home. A celebration of Mr. Danielson's life will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Calvary Community Church, with Pastor Martin Haase officiating. A private burial service will be at Willamette Memorial Park.
Charles Ruben Little
Dec. 15, 1934 - April 1, 1999
Charles Ruben Little, 64, of Albany died April 1 in Portland.
Mr. Little was born in Hobart, Okla., to Clarence and Cleo (Clanton) Little. He served in the Navy and worked in the Portland shipyards after his discharge.
Surviving are brothers Clarence of Olivehurst, Calif., and Thomas of Klamath Falls; and many nieces and nephews.
Siblings Robert, Harry and Maryann Little died earlier.
There will be no services. Burial will be at Willamette National cemetery.

Martha Schmidt
Dec. 28, 1905 - April 6, 1999
Former Albany resident Martha Schmidt, 93, of Woodburn died Tuesday.
She was born in Harlan County, Ky., and married
George Schmidt June 8, 1933, in Albany. He died in 1992.
Surviving are son George of Christmas Valley; daughters Dorothy Lucht of Molalla, Bessie Williams of Harrisburg, Wilma Smith of Aurora, Diane Erdman of Eugene, and Phyllis Wimer and Suzanne Schmidt, both of Lebanon. There are 25 grandchildren, 52 great-grandchildren and 15 great-great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. today at Simon Funeral Chapel in Woodburn. A memorial service will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Christ Lutheran Church in Aurora. Private entombment will be at Belle Passi Memorial Mausoleum in Woodburn.
