Cecil Irwin Heyne
July 16, 1924 - April 21, 1999

LEBANON - Former Lebanon resident Cecil Irwin Heyne, 74, of Stanfield died Wednesday at home.

He was born and grew up in Lebanon, the son of Paul and Mary (Wiley) Heyne. He graduated in 1942 from Lebanon High School and joined the Navy. He was a machinist's mate 2nd class during World War II.

After the war he lived in Estacada and Elgin, working as a truck driver and mechanic. Later he owned a welding shop.

He was married July 18, 1989 in Richland, Wash. He and wife Alberta "Micki" lived in Boardman and in Stanfield, where Mr. Heyne opened a restaurant.

He belonged to the Blue Mountain Old Time Fiddlers and was a volunteer entertainer at Hermiston Terrace, an assisted living home. He enjoyed making fiddles, singing and playing his guitar.

Surviving are wife "Micki"; seven stepchildren; mother Mary Heyne of Lebanon; and sisters Barbara Mills of Modesto, Calif., and Betty Keeler of Port Orford. There are 26 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and 11 nieces and nephews.

A memorial service was held Sunday at the Stanfield Senior Center. Burns Mortuary of Hermiston is handling arrangements.

Contributions in Mr. Heyne's memory may be made to the Blue Mountain Old Time Fiddlers.

Edna Hazel Kuster
Feb. 11, 1926 - April 26, 1999

LEBANON - Edna Hazel Kuster, 73, of Lebanon died Monday at Lebanon Community Hospital.

Born in Ipswick, Australia, she was the daughter of Arthur and Louisa (Imhoff) Fullelove.

She met Emery "Bud" E. Kuster Jr. when he was a soldier serving in Australia during World War II. They were married Oct. 4, 1944, in Ipswick. Mrs. Kuster sailed with their daughter to the United States aboard a war-bride ship in 1946, with 4,000 other brides.

The Kusters farmed in Marysville, Calif., for five years. They lived in Sacramento, Calif., for 20 years and in Chico and Rio Linda, Calif., before moving to Lebanon 15 years ago. Mr. Kuster died this year on Jan. 18.

Mrs. Kuster had been a group home supervisor for the Sacramento County Children's Home. She was a hard-working volunteer, especially for the Lebanon Meals on Wheels program, and was named Linn County Seniors Volunteer of the Year in 1995.

Mrs. Kuster made many of her own clothes. She especially enjoyed the ocean.

Surviving are mother Louisa Fullelove of Ipswick, Australia; daughter Wendy Bakkenta of Albany, Calif.; sons Mike and Jim Kuster, both of Waldport; close friend Shannon Duffy of Albany; five brothers and sisters; five grandchildren; two great-granddaughters; and many nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Huston-Jost Funeral Home.

Contributions in her memory may be made to Lebanon Meals on Wheels, in care of Huston-Jost Funeral Home, 86 W. Grant St., Lebanon, Ore. 97355.

Rakkel Latimer
June 1, 1910 - April 25, 1999

LEBANON - Rakkel Latimer, 88, of Lebanon died Sunday at the Lebanon Community Hospital.

Born in Minot N.D., she was the daughter of John and Clara (Foss) Lee. She grew up in Minot and Bismarck, N.D., and attended St. Olaf College.

After her father's death in 1928, She worked as a mail censor for the prison. She attended Minot State Teachers College, earning her degree in education in 1931.

She married William Israel Latimer Dec. 5, 1936. They lived in Everett and Yakima and Marysville in Washington. Mr. Latimer died Jan. 16, 1970, and Mrs. Latimer moved to Lebanon in 1980.

She had taught high school for three years in North Dakota and had worked for the Federal Employee Relief Administration.

An active member of Our Saviour's Lutheran Church, she was a past member of the Lebanon Community Hospital Auxiliary and a volunteer reader for the Lebanon schools.

Surviving are sons John, Steve and Jerry, all of Lebanon and Richard of Gig Harbor, Wash.; and 10 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Three brothers and three sisters died earlier.

Viewing will be from 3 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the Huston-Jost Funeral Home, with Pastor Bruce Little officiating. Burial will follow at the Lebanon IOOF cemetery.

Contributions in Mrs. Latimer's memory may be made to Our Saviour's Lutheran Church or the Lebanon Chapter of Habitat for Humanity, or the American Cancer Society. They may be sent in care of Huston-Jost Funeral Home, 86 W. Grant St., Lebanon, Ore. 97355.

Genevieve McAllister
Sept. 14, 1916 - April 24, 1999

LEBANON - Genevieve Anora McAllister, 82, of Lebanon died Saturday at home.

Born in Toledo, Ohio, she was the daughter of Carl and Mary (Flynn) Robarge. She married Edward Hill McAllister Jan. 3, 1938, in Cleveland, Ohio.

The McAllisters moved to Westminster in the early 1950s, and to Camarillo, Calif., in 1973.

Before retiring, Mrs. McAllister worked for Camarillo State Hospital. She moved to Lebanon to be near relatives in 1995.

She had been a volunteer in Cub Scouts, Boy Scouts, and the Parent Teacher Association. She worked for Indian lore and heritage groups, the Outlaw Guns, the California Civil War Association and the Naval Sea Cadet program.

She was an active member of the Lebanon Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Her hobbies included genealogy, Indian bead work, finger weaving, sewing, crocheting and quilting.

With three friends, she tied quilts for the needy. Their goal was to tie 52 quilts a year.

Surviving are sons Ralph of Woodbridge, Va., and James of Westminster, Calif., and daughters Elizabeth Brown of Porterville, Calif., and Frances Anderson of Lebanon. There are 14 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.

Viewing will be from 9 to 9:45 a.m. in the Relief Society room of the Lebanon Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Mrs. McAllister's funeral will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the church. Burial will be at Westminster Memorial Park in California.

Memorial contributions in her name may be made to the American Cancer Society or to the missionary fund at her church.

Dennis W. Morris
Nov. 21, 1947 - April 26, 1999

SCIO - Dennis Wayne Morris, 51, of Scio, died Monday.

Mr. Morris was born in Walla Walla, Wash., and served in the Navy from 1965 to 1971, during the Vietnam War. He earned the National Defense and Vietnam service medals, the Vietnam Campaign Medal and a Bronze Star.

A meat cutter and dry wall finisher, he was also a carpenter. He enjoyed fishing, hunting and being outdoors.

Surviving are son Matthew of Burlingame, Calif., parents Donald and Jacqueline of Scio; brothers Donald of Scio and Douglas of Los Angeles, Calif.; and sister Patricia Block of Sacramento, Calif.

Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Weddle Funeral Home in Stayton. His funeral will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

Contributions in Mr. Morris' memory may be made to the American Cancer Foundation.

Mary Jane Martinez Tinsley
March 19, 1955 - March 28, 2007

Mary Jane Martinez Tinsley, 52, of Sweet Home died Wednesday. She was born to Henry and Chris (Childers) Tinsley in St. Charles, Michigan.

Mary moved to Oregon in 1966 from California. She lived in Halsey and Brownsville, but settled in Sweet Home. She was an employee of BPOE of Sweet Home since 1972. She attended Brownsville Assembly of God. She enjoyed shopping and camping.

She is survived by companion, Kirk Smith; mother, Chris Childers; father, Henry Tinsley; step fathers, Victor “Bud” Childers and Leonard Thompson; sisters, Francis “Frankie” Vega, Henrietta Thompson, Patty Stafford, Debbie Thompson; brothers, James Tinsley, Lonnie Thompson, Ray Thompson; sons, Travis Stitzel of Albany, PJ Stitzel of Salem; and grandsons, Jacob and Zachary Stitzel.

Mary was preceded in death by father, Henry Tinsley, in 1956 and brother, Ronnie Thompson, in 1960.

Memorial Service will be Saturday March 31 at 1 pm at Pioneer Park in Brownsville. Memorial contributions may be made to Mary Martinez Tinsley Funeral Fund, c/o Sweet Home Funeral Chapel, 1443 Long Street. Sweet Home Funeral Chapel will be handling the arrangements.

Irene May Dunn
Sept. 30, 1921 - April 25, 1999

SWEET HOME - Irene May (Nyberg) Dunn, 77, of Sweet Home died Sunday at home.

Born in Napavine, Wash., to Gust and Anna Isabel (Lloyd) Nyberg, she attended school in Winlock, Wash., and graduated from high school in 1940.

She married Howard Dunn March 10, 1941, in Mountain Home, Idaho. They lived in Kelso, Wash., before moving to Sweet Home in 1948.

They owned and operated Cascade Crushing in Sweet Home for 25 years, and she was the bookkeeper.

She belonged to Fir Lawn Lutheran Church and enjoyed music, and sewing, crocheting, quilting, and traveling. She liked to garden and can food and to share her produce.

Surviving are husband Howard; daughters Darlene Saulmon of Burke, Va., Linda Mann of Annadale, Va., Shirley Lynch of Weekawken, N.J., and Kathie Davis of Cumming, Ga.; son Ronald of Sweet Home; and many grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.

She is also survived by brothers Ralph Nyberg of Ryderwood, Wash., Jim Nyberg of Chehalis, Wash., Gus Nyberg of Centralia, Wash., Harry and Bill Nyberg, both of Toledo, Wash., and Eric Nyberg of Winlock, Wash.

Viewing will be from 3 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Workman & Steckly Funeral Chapel. Mrs. Dunn's funeral will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Fir Lawn Lutheran Church with Pastor Mike Shafer officiating. Burial will follow at Gilliland cemetery.

Contributions in Mrs. Dunn's memory may be made to Fir Lawn Lutheran Church, the American Cancer Society or the American Heart Association.

Wayne Gilbert Martinez
June 17, 2007

Wayne Gilbert Martinez, 77, of Sweet Home, died on Sunday, June 17, 2007 at his home. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 am Friday, June 22, 2007 at Sweet Home Funeral Chapel.

George Andrew Fery
Dec. 3, 1918 - April 24, 1999

STAYTON - George Andrew Fery, 80, of Stayton died Saturday.

Born in Aumsville, Mr. Fery graduated from Stayton High School and worked as a farmer and logger.

He became a deputy sheriff for Marion County. He served 40 years on the board of directors of Sublimity Insurance, retiring in March as vice president.

He was married April 9, 1942. His wife, Lucille, died Aug. 8, 1998.

Mr. Fery belonged to the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church and was a member of the Catholic Order of Foresters. He enjoyed cutting wood, gardening, reading and traveling.

Surviving are sons Richard of Charleston, S.D., James of St. Helens, and Ted of Orlando, Fla.; daughters Judy Spadoni of Seattle, Patricia Gallagher of Albany and Peggy Care of John Day; and brother Alva of Aumsville. There are 13 grandchildren.

Recitation of the Rosary will be at 7:30 this evening at Immaculate Conception Church. Funeral Mass will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the church, followed by burial at St. Mary's cemetery, Stayton. Weddle Funeral Home is handling arrangements.

Contributions in her name may be made to St. Mary's Grade School in Stayton.

Ethel Gillitzer
Jan. 2, 1912 - April 20, 1999

Former Albany resident Ethel Gillitzer, 87, of Canby died Tuesday.

She was born in Leyland, England, and emigrated to Hamilton, Ontario, in 1921. She earned a degree in registered nursing from St. Joseph's School of Nursing in Canada. She took a six-month post graduate course in pediatrics at Children's Hospital in Detroit, Mich.

She married Edward Gillitzer and they lived in San Diego, Calif., for 25 years before moving to Albany. Later they traveled in their RV for 10 years. They settled in Canby in 1991 and Mr. Gillitzer died in 1992.

In Albany Mrs. Gillitzer was a member and past president of the Grand Prairie Garden Club. She had belonged to the Albany First Baptist Church.

Surviving are daughter Carol Harrison of Lakeside, Calif., son Robert of Grover Creek, S.C.; and three grandchildren and a great-granddaughter.

A private, family service was held. Canby Funeral Chapel handled arrangements.

Charles Gregor Martin, Jr.
November 29, 1923 - July 4, 2007

Charles Gregor Martin Jr., 83, of Sweet Home, passed away on Wednesday at Albany General Hospital. He was born in Dickinson, North Dakota to Charles Gregor and Beatrice (Wanner) Martin.

Charles was a U.S. Army Medic during World War II in the Philippines. He was a Purple Heart recipient. He has lived in Dickinson, North Dakota, Seattle, Washington, and then in Sweet Home, Oregon since 1975.

Charles worked the ranch in Dickinson with his father and mother when he was young. He graduated from High School in Dickinson and attended college for one year before being drafted into the Army. After being discharged from the military, he worked construction jobs in Washington State. Later, he worked for the City of Seattle as a firefighter until he retired in 1975.

Charles Gregor Martin, Jr.

He enjoyed working with his hands. He built a family cabin at Maggie Lake from scrap materials he collected during his moonlighting in construction while being a firefighter. In his early years he enjoyed hunting and fishing with his family and friends. He was a good clam digger and oyster shucker and cooker on Hood Canal, Washington.

He enjoyed traveling with his wife Louella to Quartzsite, Arizona and “snow birding” with friends from Sweet Home. He and his wife Louella were founding board members and active volunteers and supporters of the Sweet Home Boys and Girls Club. Most recently, he enjoyed cruising various locations with his close friend, Norma Cain.

Charles is survived by four children, Kathleen Brockway of La Connor, WA, Charlene Mason of Sweet Home, OR, Charles Martin Jr., of Federal Way, WA, and Craig Martin of Sweet Home, OR; stepchild, Mickey Pfab of Seattle, WA; sister, Bernice Olson of Indio, CA; six grandchildren, Adrian Brockway of Seattle, WA, Karyn Hartsook of Sweet Home, OR, Sean Martin of Sweet Home, OR, Nichole Martin of Sweet Home, OR, Michael Martin of Federal Way, WA, Cory Martin of Sweet Home, OR; two great-grandchildren, Bailee Hartsook and Ryker Hartsook, both of Sweet Home, OR.

He is preceded in death by his wife, Louella Martin; his brothers, Edgar and Don Martin; and sister, Mercedes Schmaltz.

Viewing will be 10am - 2pm Monday with the Funeral Service following at 3pm at Sweet Home Funeral Chapel. Sweet Home Funeral Chapel will be handling the arrangements.
