Marjorie Scherette
March 26, 1922 - March 21, 1999
Marjorie Elaine Scherette, 76, of Albany died Sunday.
She was born in Lincoln, Wash., to Carl and Maude Brown. She married
Fred Scherette Oct. 16, 1938, in Colville, Wash. They moved to Springfield in 1963. Mr. Scherette died Nov. 4, 1990, and Mrs. Scherette moved to Albany in 1993.
Mrs. Scherette was a homemaker, who especially enjoyed fishing, gardening and sewing. She was a member of the Spokane Indian Tribe.
Surviving are sons Gerald of Albany and Fred of Eugene; daughter Janice McLeod of Albany; brother Kenneth Alexander of Seattle, Wash.; and sisters Betty Wilson of Central Point and Verna Gray and Diane Murdock, both of East Wenatchee, Wash. There are eight grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
A graveside service for Mrs. Scherette will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Springfield Memorial Gardens. Springfield Memorial Funeral Home is handling arrangements.
Theresa June Watts
June 10, 1919 - March 22, 1999
Theresa June Watts, 79, of Albany died Monday in Salem.
She was born in Dayton to Charles and Almeda Similar and grew up in Dayton and McMinnville, where she graduated from high school.
She married
Irvin Dickinson, and they later divorced. She married
Bobby Watts April 7, 1956, at Agate Beach, and they moved to Albany in 1984. Mr. Watts died May 4, 1992.
Mrs. Watts had lived in Elk City, Agate Beach, Newport, Keizer, Bend, Salem and Coos Bay. She had belonged to Beta Sigma Phi since 1945.
She enjoyed sewing, baking, canning and oil painting in pastels.
Surviving are sons Stephen Dickinson and Charles Watts, both of Albany, and Richard Watts of Eureka, Mont.; daughters Deborah Buchanan of Albany, Susan Watts of Salem, Patricia Mitchell of Marietta, Ga., and Marcie Linwood of Lakeside; 21 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.
Brothers Wesley and Clair Similar and sisters Versa Sanford, Erma Edsel and Margaret Armontrout died earlier.
A memorial service will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Fisher Funeral Home.

Lynn E. White
Sept. 9, 1926 - March 20, 1999
Lynn Emmanuel White, 72, of Albany died Saturday in Salem.
He was born in Cushing, Okla., to Guern and Beulah White. The family moved to Madera, Calif., when he was 14.
He married
Virginia Reed in Port Costa, Calif., and they later divorced.
After finishing school, he worked for 19 years in California in saw mills, factories and paint companies. He moved to Albany in 1963 and worked at a local grass seed company. Later he worked with cattle on a ranch.
Mr. White enjoyed riding horses, listening to western music and being outdoors.
Surviving are sons Danny and Lynn Jr., both of Tyler, Texas, and Roy of Scio; daughter Joyce Stutzman of Albany; brothers Leon of Turner, Roy of Stayton, Jimmy of Ohio, Bobby of Fresno, Calif., and Charles of Antioch, Calif.; and sisters Julie Rinkus of Weiser, Idaho, Louise Holt of Wallowa; 10 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
Mr. White's funeral will be at 3 p.m. Wednesday at AAsum Funeral Home. A private burial service will be at Willamette Memorial Park. Visitation will be until 5 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Arthur L. Randall
Aug. 21, 1911 - March 11, 1999
CORVALLIS - Arthur L. Randall, 87, of Corvallis died Thursday at Good Samaritan Hospital.
He was born in Staples, Minn., to Chester and Mary (Welch) Randall, and he grew up on the family farm.
He married
Mabel Elizabeth White July 30, 1935, and they lived in the Staples area until 1954, when they moved to Corvallis. Mabel died in 1993.
Mr. Randall worked for Benton County and became a road crew supervisor before his 1977 retirement. He belonged to the Albany Eagles Lodge and the Corvallis Moose Lodge, where he was a member of the Legion of the Moose.
Known for his sense of humor, he especially enjoyed dancing, camping and hunting.
Surviving are daughters Darlene Gangestad, Twylla Randall and Sharon Holt, all of Corvallis, Gail Keenan of Lebanon, Bonnie Brimacomb of Shedd, and Beverly Park of Staples; sons Gerald "Jerry" of Hewitt, Minn., and Wayne and Dennis, both of Albany; and 28 grandchildren, 44 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.
Son James died in 1942 and brother Harold and five grandchildren died before Mr. Randall.
At Mr. Randall's request, there will be no public services.

George Laus Coon
Oct. 18, 1921 - March 16, 1999
CORVALLIS - Former Corvallis resident George Laus Coon, 77, of Alsea died Tuesday.
Mr. Coon was born and grew up in Caldwell, Idaho, the son of Everett and Alta (Musler) Coon. He attended several colleges and earned a bachelor's degree from the College of Idaho and a doctorate from Oregon State University.
He married
Myrna Wampler in 1941 in Caldwell, and they moved to Corvallis in 1956.
Mr. Coon was a medic attached to the 1st Division, 18th Infantry, Company A, during World War II, and he served in Europe.
He taught in Idaho and in Corvallis, and served as principal of Western View and Highland View middle schools. He was the Corvallis district's personnel director before retiring in 1983.
After retiring, he built a house on the Alsea River. Mr. Coon enjoyed hunting and fishing.
Surviving are wife Myrna; daughters Niki Smith of Corvallis and Claudia Coon of Portland; brother Gene of Gresham; sister Carol Arndt of Stayton; grandchildren Tamara Kaufman, Antony and Shobi Breeden, Jeremy Coon and Erin and Evan Smith; and great-grandchildren Kord and Kaitlyn Kaufman, Nicolle and Nathaniel Breeden and Liam Berky.
Daughter Barbara and brother Paul died earlier.
A celebration of Mr. Coon's life will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Calvin Presbyterian Church of Corvallis.

Scott Eric Holland
Oct. 13, 1995 - March 15, 1999
BEND - Scott Eric Holland, 3, son of Eric and Sue Holland of Bend, died Monday at home.
He was born in Corpus Christi, Texas, and had lived in Bend since infancy.
Besides his parents, survivors are grandparents Al and Glenda Holland of Lebanon and Manuel and Olga Morales of Corpus Christi, Texas; great-grandmothers Olive Whitaker of Lebanon, Josephine Holland of Albany and Elva Morales of Fresno, Calif.; many aunts, uncles and cousins; and honorary grandparents in Bend who helped to care for Scott.
Viewing will be from 3 to 8 p.m. today at Huston-Jost Funeral Home. Scott's funeral will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at the United Methodist Church, 1890 S. Second St., Lebanon, with Pastor Kate Conolly officiating. Burial will follow at the Lebanon IOOF cemetery.

Robert Mulvany
Sept. 19, 1908 - March 9, 1999
BROWNSVILLE - Former Brownsville resident Robert Mulvany, 90, of Junction City, died March 9.
He was born in Marengo Township, Mich., to Raymond and Carrie (Baggerley) Mulvany. He had lived in Brownsville and had recently moved to Grandview Rehabilitation & Specialty Care in Junction City.
An Irish philosopher and teacher, he was known for his unorthodox sense of humor and fascination with life.
Surviving are wife Helen and daughters Helen, Sharon, Marta and Ann.
Private family services will be held. DeMoss-Durdan Garden Chapel is handling arrangements.
Ruth D. Oorthuys
Sept. 11, 1913 - March 14, 1999
CORVALLIS - Ruth (Denney) Oorthuys, 85, of Corvallis died Sunday.
The daughter of Robert and Margaret (Asbahr) Denney, she was born near Beaverton on the Denney Donation Land Claim.
She graduated from Beaverton High School and earned a degree in public health nursing from the Oregon Health Sciences University School of Nursing.
For nine years she was head of the student health service at Oregon College of Education (Western Oregon University) in Monmouth. She lived in West Lafayette, Ind., before moving to Corvallis.
She married
Hendrik Oorthuys in February 1950 in Portland.
Mrs. Oorthuys was involved in many church and community activities. She belonged to the Inter-Varsity Christian Fellowship and hosted international student activities on campuses in Indiana and Oregon.
She belonged to Oregon Citizens United for the Rehabilitation of Errants (CURE), made many contributions to Oregon corrections programs, and was an honorary member of Lifers Unlimited Club at the Oregon State Penitentiary. She co-taught an honors class, "Felons are People."
She was a founding member of ENTOS, a non-profit shelter house in Corvallis, and a 40-years member of the First Baptist Church of Corvallis.
Surviving are sons Leonard of Snohomish, Wash., Gerry of Santa Cruz, Calif., and John of Aloha; daughter Marjorie Mobley-Oorthuys of Stayton; brothers Robert Denney of Reno, Nev., J.F. "Bud" Denney of Bend and William Denney of Bakersfield, Calif.; and sisters Katherine Garnett of Portland and Lorraine Olsen of Yakima, Wash. There are three grandchildren.
A memorial celebration of Mrs. Oorthuys life will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Corvallis First Baptist Church, 125 N.W. 10th St.

Lloyd F. Tysdal
Feb. 20, 1911 - March 16, 1999
LEBANON - Lloyd F. Tysdal, 88, of Lebanon died Tuesday at Lebanon Community Hospital.
He was born on a farm near St. Charles, S.D., to Knud and Beatrice (Samal) Tysdal. He graduated from Burke High School in South Dakota in 1930, a year late because he ran the family farm for a year while his father was ill.
He married
Helen Brown June 26, 1935, in Gravity, Iowa. They lived in Great Falls, Mont., Medford and Pendleton, and Dillon and Butte, Mont. They moved to Lebanon in 1973, after he retired. Helen died in 1996.
Mr. Tysdal worked for Montgomery Ward in Great Falls, and in 1941 was hired by the Civil Aeronautics Commission, a federal aviations agency. He was a government worker for the next 32 years.
He had a sideline electronics business, Beaverhead Electronics, and repaired all types of radios. He was an avid ham radio operator with call letters W7FSP, and he belonged to the American Radio Relay League and was active in the Santiam Amateur Radio Club.
Community minded, Mr. Tysdal participated in many volunteer programs, including as chairman of the board of a Methodist church, president of the church men's club and mentor for high schoolers interested in ham radio.
He belonged to the ham Auxiliary Emergency Communicators of Oregon and had belonged to the Moose Lodge for more than 50 years.
With his wife, Mr. Tysdal had enjoyed visiting the Oregon coast and fishing, often traveling in their travel trailer. He moved into The Oaks, an assisted living residence, in September.
Surviving are daughter Barbara Pedersen of Arvada, Colo.; sons Robert of St. Helens and Russell of Golden, Colo.; sisters Clara Britton of Seymour, Ind., and Peggy Densford of Seminole, Okla.; and five grandchildren.
Mr. Tysdal's funeral will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Huston-Jost Funeral Home, with Pastor Katherine Conolly officiating. A private burial service will be at the Lebanon IOOF cemetery.
Viewing will be from 3 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Neva P. Williams
June 18, 1919 - March 15, 1999
Neva P. Williams, 79, of Albany died Monday at the Mennonite Home.
She was born in Salem, the daughter of John and Clara (Gripentrog) Harms. She grew up in the Aumsville area and lived in Lebanon and Newberg before moving to Albany in 1958.
She married
Morry Williams Jan. 10, 1965.
Mrs. Williams was a member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church and the American Legion.
She is survived by husband Morry; sons Richard Owen, Ronald Owen and Dave Owen, all of Albany, and Dale Owen of Tigard; stepdaughter Janet Abbott of Lake Oswego; brother Ralph Harms of Yuma, Ariz.; and sisters Vivian Miller of Tigard, Thelma Royce of Portland and Dorothy Hill of Salem. There are seven grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
Brother Verne Harms, sisters Mildred Doran and Clarice Stovall and great-grandson Sam Owen died before Mrs. Williams.
A graveside service will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Willamette Memorial Park.

Lillian E. Wilson
March 22, 1910 - March 4, 1999
CORVALLIS - Lillian Elizabeth Wilson, 88, of Corvallis died Thursday at home.
Mrs. Wilson was born in Pueblo, Colo., to Harvey and Mary (Scott) Willworth. She spent most her adult years in Beaverton, moving to Corvallis to be near a daughter in 1987.
Surviving are daughters Sylvia Aulerich of Corvallis and Mary Alvstad of Aloha; son Paul Wilson of Lake Oswego; and eight grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, and a great-great-grandchild.
No services are scheduled.
