Robert (Bob) L. Harris
November 11, 1945 - August 21, 2007
Robert (Bob) L. Harris, age 61, of Sweet Home, died August 21st at his home. He was born to Leighton “Jack” and Hazel Laree (Willey) Harris in Sweet Home, Oregon.
Robert lived in the Sweet Home area all of his life. He was an awesome timber faller and he worked on the Christmas Tree farm with his brother. Robert played golf and loved playing music with his brother and nephew.
Robert is survived by daughters, Jamie and Maria, and son, Brian, all of Bend; brother, Gene E. Harris, of Foster; two nieces; one nephew; and two grandsons, Kaden and Jaden, of Bend.
Robert was preceded in death by his aunt and parents.
A graveside service will be held on Friday, August 24, at Gilliland cemetery. Sweet Home Funeral Chapel will handle the arrangements.
Margaret Jacobsen
Sept. 6, 1918 - March 20, 1999
HARRISBURG - Harrisburg native Margaret Elenore Jacobsen, 80, of Orangevale, Calif., died Saturday.
Surviving are daughter Patty Belcher of Orangevale; siblings Louise Grooms of Connell, Wash., Lorance Osborne of Newport and Wanda Smith of Goldendale, Wash.; grandchildren DuWayne Henderson Jr., Byron Henderson and Laurie Holdsworth; and six great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be at 4 p.m. Friday at Hope Lutheran Church in Penryn, Calif. Burial will be at the Lebanon IOOF cemetery. Miller Funeral Home of Folsom, Calif., is handling arrangements.

James M. Miner Jr.
Oct. 28, 1941 - March 22, 1999
CORVALLIS - James M. "Jimmy" Miner Jr., 57, of Corvallis died Monday at Good Samaritan Hospital.
Mr. Miner was born and grew up in Sweet Home and attended Sweet Home schools. He married
Sally Johnson Aug. 23, 1997, in Corvallis.
Mr. Miner worked 23 years for the Pepsi Cola Bottling Co. in Corvallis, and for the last two years worked for Open Door Industries.
He belonged to Corvallis Evangelical Church, was an avid sports fan and bowled in leagues for many years.
He belonged to the Corvallis Lions Club and participated in Special Olympics.
Surviving are wife Sally; parents James Sr. and Dorothy (Dickinson) Miner of Sweet Home; brothers David of West Linn, Dan and Ron, both of Lebanon, Dale and Joe, both of Corvallis, and Mike, Lloyd, Bob, Ted, Tony and Bill, all of Sweet Home; sisters Ethel Gray of Lebanon, Joyce Baugus of Sweet Home, and Sharon Miner of Fairbanks, Alaska.
Visitation will be from 2 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Workman & Steckly Funeral Chapel of Sweet Home. A memorial service will be at 1 p.m. Friday at the Sweet Home Evangelical Church.

Douglas Arthur Schamp
September 23, 1946 - April 6, 2007
Douglas “Doug” Schamp, 60, of Brownsville died Monday. He was born to Harold and Marion (Salter) Schamp in Deadwood, South Dakota.
Doug was a member of the elite Blue Angel’s Squad from 1981-1983. He grew up in Corvallis, attending the schools there. Doug joined the Navy at age 17 and was trained in Nuclear Submarines. After graduating from Oregon State University, Doug entered officers training in Pensicola, FL. During his military career Doug traveled all over the world. He retired from the military in 1991 in San Diego, CA, eventually returning to Oregon and settling in Brownsville.
He loved his Harley Davidson and started two chapters of the Oregon Veterans Motorcycle Organization; in Burns and Sweet Home. He was a man with a large heart that showed kindness to others.
Doug is survived by daughter, Kristi Hoaglin of Portland; sister, Sharon Bennett of Palm Springs, CA; beloved friend, Jan Schamp of Eugene; nephews; three grandchildren; and many friends both from the military and locally. He was preceded in death by his mother and father.
There will be a celebration of life with a potluck to follow, April 21 at 11:30 am at the Community Chapel located at 42250 Ames Creek Rd in Sweet Home. Memorial contributions may be made to the Sweet Home Chapter of the Oregon Veterans Motorcycle Organization, c/o Sweet Home Funeral Chapel, 1443 Long Street. Sweet Home Funeral Chapel will be handling the arrangements.
Frank H. Stevenson
April 24, 1917 - March 21, 1999
Frank Hubert Stevenson, 81, of Albany died Sunday at home.
He was born in Corvallis to Frank and Ethel (Watson) Stevenson, and he moved to the Philomath area in 1956. He had lived in Albany for the past eight years.
Mr. Stevenson especially enjoyed farming, was fond of his horses and liked to fish.
Surviving are wife Pauline of Albany; daughters Donna Myers of Albany and Nancy Vause of Bend; grandchildren Angie Yon, Jenifer Wooden, Frank Stevenson III, Diana Koester, Jason Myers and Arthur Myers; and two great-grandchildren.
Son Frank Jr. died last month.
At Mr. Stevenson's request, there will be no public services. Private inurnment will be at Oaklawn Memorial Park. McHenry Funeral Home is handling arrangements.

Ralph A. Meiling
October 9, 1919 - May 5, 2007
Ralph A. Meiling was born in Vernal, Utah on October 9, 1919 to Curtis and Alice (Reasoner) Meiling. He moved to the Sweet Home area when he was nine with his parents and three sisters. He graduated from Sweet Home High School in 1938. He worked driving log trucks and other vehicles and doing mechanic repairs for a few years with his father, Curtis Meiling. He was drafted into the U.S. Army in 1942 and served the duration of World War II. After he served in the military, he once again resided near Sweet Home.
In August of 1947 he married
Louise Tyler, and they moved to Monmouth, where they could attend college in both Monmouth and Corvallis. He graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in industrial arts from Oregon State College in 1950. He received his Masters in Education degree from Colorado State University in Greeley, Colorado shortly after that. He taught math, industrial arts, and other related subjects for many years at the junior high and high school levels in Sweet Home and Scio.
He had three children; Paul, Sally (Lewin), and Linda (VavRosky). After he retired in 1979, he loved living in his rural home and maintaining the small forest on his property. He enjoyed building things, working outside, working with animals, and reading.
He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Louise Tyler Meiling; his sister, Helen Bolman of Lebanon; his daughters, Sally Lewin of Keizer and Linda VavRosky of Juliaetta, Idaho; six grandchildren and one great-grandson. He is preceded in death by his parents and his son, Paul.
Donations may be made in his name to the Humane Society Safe Haven facility in Tangent.
His sense of humor, expertise, and love for his family will be deeply missed.
A memorial service will be at 10:30 am, Saturday, May 12th, at Waterloo Chapel. Sweet Home Funeral Chapel is handling the arrangements.
Mary R. Shaff
July 8, 1911 - March 20, 1999
SWEET HOME - Mary R. Shaff, 87, of Sweet Home died Saturday at Twin Oaks Care center.
Born in Celina, Texas, she was the daughter of Arthur and Ellen (O'Dell) Rogers. She had lived in California for many years.
She married
Floyd Shaff in Hawthorne, Calif., June 18, 1956, and they moved to Sweet Home in 1963. He died May 31, 1987.
Mrs. Shaff had worked 19 years for the North American Aviation Co. She enjoyed attending church, raising flowers, sewing and crafts. She belonged to the Sweet Home Garden Club.
Surviving are son Charles Owens of Sweet Home; and stepchildren Delores Ingram of Green Bay, Va., Leo Shaff of San Diego, Calif., Albert Shaff of Minneapolis, Minn., and Wayne Shaff and Marcella Tansager, both of Eagan, Minn. There are six grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and several great-great-grandchildren. Sons Kenneth and Gerald Owens died earlier.
Mrs. Shaff's funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Workman & Steckly Funeral Chapel, with Pastor B.J. Ellington officiating. Burial will be at Gilliland cemetery.
Viewing will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral chapel.
Donald J. Bushnell
May 11, 1928 - June 18, 2007
Donald J. Bushnell, 79, of Sweet Home, died on Monday, June 18, 2007. He was born on May 11, 1928 in Minot, ND; the son of Raymond George and Alta Leona (Boomhower) Bushnell.
He entered the United States Navy serving during WWII from 1944 to 1946. Working as a truck driver all his life, Donald lived all over the United States, with the past few years spent in Oregon, Washington, and Arizona. Donald enjoyed fishing, NASCAR, and his family. He was devoted husband, and loving father and grandfather.
Donald is survived by children: Bill of Vernon, AZ, "Skipper" (Don, Jr.) of Covington, WA, Leonard, Frank, and Russell all of Port Angeles, WA, Brian Micheau of Walla Walla, WA, Connie O'Malley of Sweet Home, Kathy Miller of Montesano, WA, Tammy Micheau of Aberdeen, WA, Penny Vincent of Renton, WA, Misty Bushnell of Aberdeen, WA, Susan Zink of Port Angeles, WA; brothers: Ray of Minot, ND and Ralph of Oklahoma City, OK; sisters: Josephine Chapel of Troy, MT and Mary Otis of Kirkland, WA; 19 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
His wife, Marlene, brother, Wally, and siste, Betty, all precded him in death.

Nellie Marie Adams
May 6, 1928 - March 20, 1999
Nellie Marie Adams, 70, of Albany died Saturday at home.
She was born and grew up in Wichita, Kan., the daughter of Silas and Elsie Beckner. She moved to Hillsboro in 1946 and had lived at the Oregon coast. She married
Charles C. "Charlie" Adams on May 26, 1946, and they moved to Corvallis in 1974 and to Albany in 1980.
Mrs. Adams had worked at the JC Penney store in Corvallis and was a homemaker. She belonged to the Lutheran Church and the Garibaldi Fire Department Auxiliary.
Surviving are husband, Charlie; sons Stan of Orlando, Fla., Ron of Corvallis and Kevin of Klamath Falls; daughter Diane Persson of Salem and Karen Coronado of Battle Ground, Wash.; 12 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.
A memorial reception will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the family home, 4486 Evergreen St. S.E. A private burial service will be at Oak Lawn cemetery in Corvallis. McHenry Funeral Home is handling arrangements.

Carl W. Bennett
Sept. 20, 1914 - March 21, 1999
PHILOMATH - Carl William Bennett, 84, of Philomath, died Sunday at home.
Born and raised in Fall City, the son of Robert and Frances (Harris) Bennett, he moved to Philomath in the early 1920s and attended Philomath High School.
He married
Juanita Wyatt April 11, 1936, in Philomath. She died last November.
Mr. Bennett had a career in the timber industry, as a logger and saw mill worker. After retiring in the mid-1960s, he drilled water wells. Later he and his wife owned and operated a myrtle wood hobby shop. In 1975 he went to work for the Timber Supply Shop in Philomath.
Mr. Bennett had twice been the state champion trap shooter, and he enjoyed golf and other outdoor activities. He was an avid Philomath High School sports fan.
A life member of the Elks Lodge, he also belonged to the Masons, the Al Kadar Shrine, and the Moose and Odd Fellows lodges.
Surviving are son Dennis of Philomath and Don of Albany; daughters Janice Bennett of Corvallis, and Karen Berklund and Joanne Thomas, both of Philomath; and nine grandchildren.
Also surviving are brothers Marvin and Ron, both of Philomath and Raymond of Corvallis; and sisters Marvelle Christenson of Philomath and Roberta Barnhouse of Corvallis.
A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at McHenry Funeral Home in Corvallis. A private service for burial of cremains will be at Mount Union cemetery.

Betty L. Cordle
May 23, 1929 - March 20, 1999
Betty Louise Cordle, 69, of Albany died Saturday.
She was born in Ridgeway, Mo., to Edgar and Doris (Funk) Polley. She grew up in Ridgeway and married
Schuyler "Skinny" Cordle in May 1946 in Bethany, Mo. They lived in Leavenworth and Fort Riley in Kansas before moving to Albany in 1947.
Mrs. Cordle was a homemaker and, in 1958, began working as a clerk at Erickson's Market at Queen and Hill streets. After 25 years as a clerk at markets at the Queen and Hill location, she went to work for the North Albany Thriftway Market.
After retiring in 1989, she found she wanted to work part time, and was employed by Price Chopper Supermarket until 1994.
She enjoyed water skiing and riding all-terrain vehicles, called quadrunners, at the coast. She also liked fishing and camping and spending time with family. She was an active member of an Albany AA group and had recently received her 24-year pin. She belonged to the YMCA.
Surviving are husband, Skinny; sons Edward and Mike, both of Albany; daughter Linda Sadowsky of Albany; sister Gloria Wright of Yakima, Wash.; 13 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
Brother Harley Dotson died in 1998.
A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at AAsum Funeral Home.
Ralph O. Petermen
June 17, 1937 - March 19, 1999
INDEPENDENCE - Ralph Otto Petermen, 61, of Independence died Friday at home.
He was born in Lebanon, the son of Sherlock and Cora (Hayden) Petermen. He lived in Albany, Ga., from 1957 until he moved to Independence this month.
Mr. Petermen served in the Air Force from 1957 to 1961, and had worked for Arnold Transportation and Silver Eagle trucking. He was retired.
His hobbies included hunting, fishing and hiking.
Surviving are mother Cora of Brownsville; son Tony Darren of Albany, Ga.; daughter Tanya Marie of Albany, Ga.; sisters Diana Copper of Independence and Shirley Collar of Brownsville; and two grandchildren.
There will be no public services. A private graveside service will be at the Willamette Memorial cemetery in Millersburg.
