Flavin Drushella
Jan. 13, 1916 - Feb. 24, 1999
Flavin "Dru" Drushella, 83, of Albany died Wednesday at home.
He was born and grew up Dakota City, Iowa, the son of Paul and Nellie (Freed) Drushella. He married
Audrey H. Repp on April 21, 1940, in Nashua, Iowa, and they moved to Albany in 1946.
Mr. Drushella was an Albany Realtor for 30 years and retired in 1978. He was an avid fisherman, hunter and golfer. He belonged to the Albany Elks Lodge and American Contract Bridge League. He was a past member of the Spring Hill Country Club.
Surviving are wife Audrey; daughter Susan Wohlsein of Grants Pass; and two grandchildren. Brothers Paul and Alvin and sister Nina Wilson died earlier.
A gathering of family and friends will be at 10 a.m. Monday at the Twin Oaks Memorial Gardens Mausoleum.

Lee Oliver Gibbs
Oct. 6, 1914 - Feb. 25, 1999
Lee Oliver Gibbs, 84, of Salem died Thursday.
He was born in Indian Valley, Idaho, and was the son of Jess Levi and Agnes (Linder) Gibbs. He served in the Navy for 20 years, including during World War II and the Korean War.
He married
Anita Wyman on Jan. 19, 1942, in Bremerton, Wash.
Mr. Gibbs lived in Yakima, Wash., Idaho Falls, Idaho, and Corvallis Turner and Salem. He was a member of the Fleet Reserve Association.
Surviving are wife Anita; son Jacy of Wilder, Idaho; sisters America Henderson of Central Point, Minerva Nyygard of Orofino, Idaho, and Mary Stephenson of Midvale, Idaho; and six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Seven brothers and two sisters died earlier.
At Mr. Gibbs' request, there will be no services. Fisher Funeral Home of Albany is handling arrangements.
Helen M. Kocer
April 19, 1908 - Feb. 24, 1999
Helen M. Kocer, 90, of Lebanon died Wednesday at home.
She was born in Taber, S.D., to John and Anna (Kortan) Novotny. She married
Robert Kocer on her birthday, April 19, 1938, in Martin, S.D.
The Kocers farmed in South Dakota and later moved to Lebanon. Robert Kocer died in 1975.
Mrs. Kocer belonged to St. Edwards Catholic Church. She had enjoyed playing cards, shopping and taking care of her grandson when he was a child.
Surviving are son Dean of Lebanon; sisters Adeline Rouse of Bullhead, Ariz., and Lillian Novak of Martin, S.D.; a grandson and three great-grandchildren.
Brother Adolf Novotny and sister Mamie Pesek died earlier.
Viewing will be from 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday at Huston-Jost Funeral Home. A graveside service will be at 12:30 p.m. Monday at the Lebanon IOOF cemetery, with Father Paul Maher officiating.
Chester Arthur Poe
Jan. 8, 1913 - Feb. 23, 1999
Chester Arthur Poe, 86, of Albany died Tuesday.
Mr. Poe was born in Phillips County, Colo., the youngest son of Herman and Alta Poe. He attended schools in Holyoke, Colo.
He married
Charlene L. Sawin on Jan. 13, 1934. Chester and Charlene were parents of four children, Shirley Kruse, Charlotte Fisbeck and Benny and Garry Poe.
Mr. Poe farmed for 28 years and moved his family to Corvallis in 1956. His first job in Oregon was for the Schrock seed cleaning plant. He worked a total of 19 years for Oregon State University, first on a farm crops project and later in food service. He retired in 1975.
In 1980 he and his wife moved to Albany, where three of their children live.
Mr. Poe enjoyed the time spent with his family. He liked music and animals and, before his health began to fail, liked playing pool at the Albany Senior Center.
A memorial service was to be held this morning at South Albany Community Church, with Pastor John Breitmeier and Darrell Mishler officiating.

Christine Chase
July 19, 1933 - June 19, 2007
Christine Marie Chase, 73, of Sweet Home, died Tuesday. She was born in Miami, Oklahoma to Marvin and Alva (Sapp) Fitch.
Chris had lived in Sweet Home since 1962. She worked at the food cannery. She enjoyed bingo and trips to Spirit Mountain. Chris was well loved by her family.
She is survived by children, Connie, Myrna, Donna, Roberta, Doris, Teresa, Gene, Jerry, Larry, and Eden; four brothers; one sister; and many, many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Chris was preceded in death by her husband and one brother.
No services are planned at this time. Sweet Home Funeral Chapel will be handling her arrangements.
Minerva Bell Postle
March 28, 1904 - Feb. 23, 1999
LEBANON - Minerva Bell Postle, 94, of Lebanon died Tuesday at Villa Cascade Care Center.
She was born in Bloomfield, Iowa, the daughter of Ben and Mary (Willenette) Richards. She moved to Coburg at age 4 and to Lebanon at age 6.
She married
Fred G. Postle on Dec. 22, 1921, in Albany. They moved to Hoquiam, Wash., in 1923 and to Lebanon in 1928. Mr. Postle died in 1968.
Mrs. Postle enjoyed walking and crocheting and liked flowers. She never drove a car.
Surviving are son Walter of Monroe; daughter Ilene Thurston of Lebanon; sister Edna Baker of Lebanon; and eight grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren and 15 great-great-grandchildren.
Daughter Norma Poe died in 1997 and brothers Ray, Glen, Bob and Freeman Richards and sister Frances Hunsucker died before Mrs. Postle.
Viewing will be from 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday at Huston-Jost Funeral Home. Mrs. Postle's funeral will be at 2 p.m. Monday at the funeral home, with Pastor Ron Hotrum officiating.
Philip Fred Hughes
March 18, 1922 - Feb. 23, 1999
CORVALLIS - Philip Fred Hughes, 76, of Corvallis died Tuesday.
Mr. Hughes was born in Murphysboro, Ill., and grew up in Santa Ana, Calif. He served in the Navy aboard the USS Tryon in the South Pacific during World War II.
He married
Betty McCubbins Nov. 7, 1953, in Santa Ana. In his younger years, Mr. Hughes enjoyed piloting small planes, riding motorcycles and horses, hunting and fishing. He also was a commercial beekeeper in the 1960s and enjoyed raising sheep and other livestock.
In 1969, the Hugheses moved to the Sweet Home area and lived there for 27 years on a small farm. Mr. Hughes was an auto body repairman before his retirement in 1987. The couple moved to Corvallis in 1996.
Surviving are wife Betty of Corvallis; son Timothy of Broken Arrow, Okla.; daughters Heather Hughes and Holly Marshall, both of Corvallis; brothers John of Orange, Calif., and Kenneth of Oakhurst, Calif.; and sister Phyllis Phaneuf of Santa Ana, Calif. There are four grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday at McHenry Funeral Home. Mr. Hughes' funeral will be at 11 a.m. Monday at the funeral home, with military honors by the American Legion. A private burial service will be at Willamette National cemetery in Portland.

Donald L. Port
Oct. 8, 1926 - Feb. 24, 1999
LEBANON - Donald L. Port, 72, of Lebanon died Wednesday at Villa Cascade Care Center.
He was born in Ravenel, S.D., the son of Wallace and Mildred (Crowell) Port. He moved to Sweet Home when he was 10 and to Lebanon in the late 1940s.
He married
Ida E. Messmer Sept. 15, 1948, in Albany.
Mr. Port was a machine operator for Champion International in Lebanon for nearly 40 years. He retired in 1989.
A past member of the Sweet Home Evangelical Church, he enjoyed listening to records, working around his home and spending time with his family.
Surviving are wife Ida; daughter Sandra Schooley of Lebanon; son Stanley of Lebanon; Delores Duke of LaGrande, Verla Sylvester of Redmond and Jeanne Greer of Klamath Falls; and five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Viewing will be from 1 to 8 p.m. Monday at Huston-Jost Funeral Home. Mr. Port's funeral will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Huston-Jost Funeral Home, with Pastor Gordon Zeller officiating. Burial will follow at the Lebanon IOOF cemetery.

May Henry
April 27, 1911 - March 28, 1999
SWEET HOME - Former Sweet Home resident May Henry, 87, of Gig Harbor, Wash., died Sunday.
Mrs. Henry lived in Sweet Home from 1987 to 1997, when she moved, due to failing health, to Washington to be with her daughter.
Husband Otis Henry Sr. and a son and daughter died earlier.
Surviving are sons G.W. Henry of Sweet Home and Gary Allen Henry of Gig Harbor, Wash.; and daughter Mary Jane Wells Klontz of Gig Harbor.
Mrs. Henry's funeral will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Brown's Mortuary in Chehalis, Wash.
Lena Mae Hostetler
May 20, 1910 - March 27, 1999
Lena Mae Hostetler, 88, of Albany died Saturday in McMinnville.
She was born in Mayton, Alberta, to Edwin and Leah (Brubaker) Wideman. She grew up in Canada, Hubbard and Sheridan, where she completed the eighth grade.
In her youth she would go with her family and friends to California to help with the harvests.
She married
Amos Hostetler in 1929, in a triple ceremony which included the marriages of her sister Anne to Willard Byers and Willis Byers to Edna.
Amos and Lena moved to Tofield, Alberta, where they farmed for 13 years. They returned to Sheridan and lived in McMinnville and Salem before moving to Albany 25 years ago. Amos died before she did.
A homemaker, Mrs. Hostetler attended the Mennonite Church and helped start a Sunday school in Sheridan. She and her husband were charter members of the McMinnville Mennonite Church and later joined the Salem Mennonite Church, where she was active in the women's group and served as secretary-treasurer.
She made several trips to British Columbia to help in the summer Bible school program there. She last belonged to the Prince of Peace Mennonite Church in Adair Village.
Mrs. Hostetler's hobbies included canning, sewing, crocheting, painting, playing piano, singing and working crossword puzzles. With family members, she was part of a gospel quartet for several years.
Surviving are son Arnold of Salem; daughters Virginia Buck of Albany and Joanne Martin of McMinnville; brother Walter Wideman of Albany; sister Mary Lauber of McMinnville; and nine grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
A brother and four sisters died earlier.
Visitation will be from 1 to 8 p.m. today and from noon to 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at AAsum Funeral Home. A celebration of Mrs. Hostetler's life will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home, with Pastor Lynn Miller officiating.

Casie L. Milam
Feb. 28, 1996 — Dec. 13, 2006
Casie L. Milam, 10, of Lebanon died Wednesday at Doernbecher Children’s Hospital in Portland, following a valiant fight with leukemia.
Casie was born in Lebanon and had resided in the Lebanon area all her life, attending Cascade Elementary School. She enjoyed dancing and taking dance classes, writing poetry and playing with her friends.
She is survived by mother Susan Anderson of Lebanon; father Troy Milam of Eugene; sister Shelby Anderson of Lebanon; grandparents Irene and Steve Johnston of Lebanon and Cliff and Ina Prince of Stratton, Neb.; and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.
A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. at Huston-Jost Funeral Home in Lebanon. Private burial was in Sandridge cemetery.
