Alice Mary Weeks
Obit dated: February 22, 2006
Alice Mary Weeks, 80, of Salem, died Feb. 19, 2006, in Salem, after a short illness.
She was born Aug. 1, 1925, in Lewiston, Idaho, to Florence and Tom Harvey.
She grew up in the Pullman and Clarkston, Washington area. She graduated from Clarkston High School in 1943. During her high school years she was the lead majorette and baton twirler for the marching band.
She married
Keith R. Weeks in 1944.
In 1955 the couple moved to Brookings, where she raised her children, taught piano lessons and worked for U.S. National Bank.
Mrs. Weeks served as church organist for Star of the Sea Catholic Church for many years. She was a 50-year member of Beta Sigma Phi and served as president of the Brookings chapter and held several other offices. Mrs. Weeks worked for U.S. National Bank 35 years and was one of the first women to serve as a branch manager. Her last managerial position was in the Milton-Freewater branch.
After retirement in 1991, she moved to Salem and enjoyed traveling and golfing with her husband. She was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Salem.
Survivors include sons Gary of Keizer, Ken and John of Salem, Tom of Corvallis, Robert of Vancouver, Wash.; nephew and niece Tom Harvey and Evie Nacarrato of Lewiston. Also surviving are 14 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband in 2003.
A memorial service was held at St. Edward's Catholic Church in Keizer.
Erma Jane Little

Erma Jane Little, 94, of Brookings, died Feb. 9, 2006, in Brookings of natural causes.
She was born March 14, 1911, in Milan, Mo., to George and Arena Holliday.
She graduated from Northeast Missouri State Teachers College in Kirksville in 1940, and earned a masters from Virginia Polytechnic Institute in 1944.
Mrs. Little moved to Oregon with her husband and young son David in 1949. She lived in Eugene, Oakland and Creswell before moving to Gold Beach in 1985.
She taught school 45 years and was a Master Teacher. She taught Home Economics 20 years at Creswell High School in Creswell.
Her family remembers Mrs. Little as a wonderful mother and grandmother who lived for them. She was a great storyteller and loved to tell stories of her childhood growing up in Missouri on the family farm.
Survivors include son David and daughter-in-law Jean; grandchildren Kelly and Bryan and their spouses Jesse and Miriam; great-grandchildren Marisa and Benjamin, all of Gold Beach.
She was preceded in death by five brothers and two sisters.
No services are planned. Cremation under the direction of Redwood Memorial Chapel, Brookings.
Lois Ione Bakke
Obit dated: February 22, 2006
Lois Ione Bakke, 71, of Brookings, died Feb. 18, 2006, at a local care facility of heart failure.
She was born May 19, 1934, in Klamath Falls to Dick and Ruby Burgess.
She was raised and educated in Klamath Falls.
After graduating from high school, she married
Robert Snyder of Klamath Falls in 1952. They had four children. The couple divorced in 1962.
She married
Gerhard Eugene Bakke Sept. 23, 1973, in Salem. The couple made their home in Brookings.
Mrs. Bakke spent numerous years in the food and beverage industry in Brookings. Later, she joined her husband in their painting business. They both retired in 1993.
She enjoyed gardening, watching movies on television and making ceramics. Her favorite activity was camping at Loeb Park with her family.
Mrs. Bakke had been baptized in the Episcopal church.
Survivors include her husband of Brookings; children and their spouses R. Charles Snyder of Medford, Michael and Sue Snyder of Brookings, Kathy and Charles Sallander of Brookings, Kelly and Jim Hall of Brookings; brother Donald LeRoy Burgess of Medford; sister Cleo Mae Wilson of Ashland; grandchildren Travis Snyder, Sean Snyder, Wyatt Snyder, Emily Snyder, Arron McCord, Jennifer Hiaasen, Craig Parke, Geena Hall, Jessica Phillips, Robert Phillips, Zack Hall. Also surviving are 16 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 1 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 26, at the Chetco Activity Center, 550 Chetco Lane in Brookings.
Cremation is under the direction of Redwood Memorial Chapel and Crematory.
Albert Francis Chapman

Albert Francis Chapman, 81, of Brookings, died Jan. 25, 2006, at his residence of natural causes.
Mr. Chapman was born May 21, 1924, in New London, Conn., to Charles Wilson and Grace Crouch Chapman.
After graduating from high school, he enlisted in the summer of 1943 in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II, serving as a navigator and aircraft radio operator in the South Pacific Theater of Operations until being honorably discharged as a sergeant in 1946.
Mr. Chapman spent 45 years as a civil engineer in land surveying before retiring to Brookings 11 years ago.
Survivors include his sister-in-law Alice Chapman of Brookings; nephews David Chapman of Brookings, Charles Chapman of New Market, Md., James Chapman of Long Beach, Calif.; nieces Mai Alyschild of Portland, Patricia Rutten, Carol Ludt, Virginia McGrew, and Donna Chapman all of Southern California.
He was preceded in death by his daughter Susan Chapman and by his brother Lloyd Chapman.
At his request no public services will be held.
Cremation was in care of Redwood Memorial Chapel, Brookings.
Donald Arthur Anderson
Obit dated: February 11, 2006
Donald Arthur Anderson, 72, of Gold Beach, died Monday, Feb. 6, 2006, at Curry General Hospital of natural causes.
He was born Feb. 18, 1933, in Gold Beach, to Joseph and Margaret Moore Anderson.
He was raised and schooled in Gold Beach and later in Portland.
Mr. Moore was a grandson of Fred Moore, one of the founding fathers of Gold Beach. He was said to be proud to be a fourth-generation Oregonian. During his life he knew many of the area's historic persons, including Angie and Rule Hawkins, who entertained him in their home with Indian tales and stories about the Rogue River.
After high school, Mr. Moore worked in Gold Beach for Kerber Logging Co. and at the Double O Sawmill for a number of years. He then worked with coin-operated amusement and vending machine companies for approximately 10 years before starting his own business, A and A Amusement Co., based out of Portland. His business leased and serviced machines throughout the state of Oregon for 30 years.
He retired in 1995 and later moved to Molokai, Hawaii, where he managed condominiums. In 2000, Mr. Moore was reunited with his childhood sweetheart, Gloria King, and he moved back to Gold Beach where the couple shared a home.
He was a member of the Kiwanis and Elks clubs as well as a past president of the American Coin Operators Association. He was said to be a very skilled woodworker who also enjoyed cross-stitch and making stained-glass art. He will be remembered by his family and friends as a fantastic storyteller and imitator.
Survivors include daughter Donna Anderson of Tigard; son Kim Anderson of Oregon; daughters Kelly Anderson of Oregon, Tawnya Thomas of Washington; son Robert Thomas of Pennsylvania; sister Martha Chrissman of San Diego; brother George "Sunny" Kerr of Eagle Point; companion Gloria King of Gold Beach. Also surviving are four grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his sister, Dorothy "Patricia" D'Bernardi.
No public services will be held.

Arrangements for cremation were in care of Redwood Memorial Chapel and Crematory, Brookings.
Lucia C. Robert
Obit dated: February 11, 2006
Lucia C. Robert, 68, of Brookings, died Feb. 1, 2006, at her home following a long illness.
She was born Feb. 23, 1937, in Detroit, Mich.; a daughter of James and Corona Head Gentile.
She was raised in Detroit, and graduated from Dominican High School. She attended University of Detroit.
While living in Detroit, she began working for Sanders Candy Co., and later for Consolidated Gas Co., where she met her future husband Dick.
The couple were married
June 3, 1962, in Detroit, and continued to live there until 1967, when they moved to Rancho Cucamonga, Calif. They owned and operated a restaurant located in the Stockyards until 1978, when the area was taken by eminent domain to build the Pomona Freeway.
She then became a dispatcher with Schlosser Forge until 1989, when the couple purchased a ranch in Rogue River.
They have made their home in Brookings since 2000.
Mrs. Robert was a member of the Star of the Sea Catholic Church.
She loved to RV travel, fish and play cards with friends.
Survivors include her husband Dick, of Brookings; son and daughter-in-law Mark and Linda Robert of San Bernardino, Calif.; brother, John Gentile of Gaylord, Mich.; grandchildren Matt Robert and Sarah Robert, both of San Bernardino.
She was preceded in death by brothers Mitz Gentile and Jimmy Gentile.
Cremation was under the direction of Redwood Memorial Chapel & Crematory.
Penelope 'Penny' Dianne Cupp

Penelope "Penny" Dianne Cupp, 54, of Brookings, was found deceased Saturday, Feb. 4, 2006, near South Bank Chetco River Road.
She was born Nov. 2, 1951, in Crescent City, Calif., to James and Jaqueline Gibbens Goltz. She grew up and went to school there.
She married
Maurice Dean Cupp Dec. 14, 1973, in Reno, Nev.
Mrs. Cupp worked as a waitress 14 years, before becoming disabled in 1986. She worked primarily at Rolands Restaurant in Crescent City and at The Blue Ox in Klamath, Calif.
She enjoyed playing cards, making ceramics, reading and camping.
Her family said Mrs. Cupp considered the highlights of her life to be her children and her grandchildren.
Survivors include her husband Maurice, of Brookings; daughter Tiffany and her husband Jeremiah Quackenbush of Brookings; sons Bradley Cupp and Danny Cupp, both of Brookings; brothers Stoney Goltz of Redding, Calif., and Cole Spencer of Eureka, Calif. Also surviving are two grandchildren.
Mrs. Cupp was preceded in death by her parents.
Memorial donations may be made in her name to Grace Bible Church, 302 North Hazel St., Brookings, OR 97415.
A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 11, at Grace Bible Church, 302 North Hazel St., Brookings. Rev. Wil Winter will officiate.
