Boyd "Andy" Garrison
He was born Oct. 8, 1916 in Leflore, Okla. to James and Evelyn (Gensman) Garrison. He graduated from high school in Oklahoma.
He served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He worked in Denver for several years until moving to Oregon and Wyoming.
On Jan. 19, 1948, he married Evelyn Tucker in Stevenson, Wash. She died in 1988.
He enjoyed fishing and traveling, and he liked working in his flower garden at Depoe Bay. He also enjoyed playing cards with his friends in Depoe Bay.
Survivors include his niece, Rita Neal of Pine Haven, Wyo.; a sister, Beatrice Cecil, of Grand Junction, Colo., and one stepdaughter, Judy Wood of Portland.
At his request, he will be cremated and interred at Willamette National Cemetery. Memorials have been established at Crook County Hospice.
Ed Mauch
He was born Feb. 10, 1930 to Roy E. and Frances Waylette Mauch in Bellingham, Wash. He was raised and educated in Eddyville.
He married his wife, Donna, in Reno, Nev. on Oct. 12, 1963.
A truck driver in the coastal area from 1948-1960, he was employed by Siletz Trucking for 24 years. He retired in 1995. He was a member of Elks Lodge #1950.
He is survived by his wife, Donna, of Dallas; a daughter, Vicki, of Spanish Fork, Utah; sons Donald of Boise, Idaho and Darryl of Salem; nine grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
A graveside service will be held 11 a.m. today (Wednesday) at Oak Lawn Memorial Park, Corvallis. Minister Harold Harms will officiate.
Aileen Kenyon
She was born in Grand Island on May 14, 1915 to Percy and Jessie Dill Miller. She had been a resident of Toledo since 1947.
She married John Kenyon in McMinnville on July 26, 1935. He preceded her in death in 1989. For most of her life, she was a homemaker.
She was a member of St. John's Episcopal Church in Toledo.
She is survived by her daughter, Marilee Kochler of Toledo; sons John of Seattle, Wash., and Randall of Toledo; four grandchildren, Cheryl Smith of Seattle, Wash., Derek Watson of Shelton, Wash., Martin French of Portland, and Michael French of Toledo; and four great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband, John, and eldest daughter, Sondra Watson.
Memorial service will be held at St. John's Episcopal Church in Toledo at 2 p.m. today (Wednesday).
Interment will be in Bateman's Chelan Abbey Mausoleum, Newport.
Bateman Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Vester "Vet" Yowell
He was born in Halfway on Dec. 6, 1921 to Vernon Vester and Nyle Maude Yowell. He graduated from Pine Valley Union High School in Halfway. He was a Navy veteran of World War II and Korea. He retired after 25 years of service and began work in Portland at Precision Cast Parts as a welder. He retired from that company in 1986.
Mr. Yowell married his wife, Rhita "Joni," in Bremerton, Wash. on Oct. 13, 1946. They moved from Portland to the Coronado Shores community upon his retirement. They moved to Redmond in 1996.
He enjoyed his work and fishing.
Survivors include his wife, Rhita "Joni" of Redmond; a son, Chad Yowell of Norton, Mass.; brothers Gale Yowell of Halfway and Perry Yowell of Shelton, Wash.; sisters Viva Jefferson of Wenatchee, Wash. and Charlotte Peterson of Seaback, Wash.; four grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Danny Yowell; and a grandson, Benjamin.
Graveside services are today (Friday) at 10 a.m. at Redmond Memorial Cemetery. Pastor Craig Smart of the Forest Avenue Baptist Church will officiate. Autumn Funerals L.L.C. is in charge of arrangements.
Donald "Don" Jensen
He was born in Walla Walla, Wash. on Aug. 19, 1916 to Jens and Louise Nielsen Jensen. During his late childhood, the family moved to Paterson, Wash., where he attended Paterson School in the late 1920s and early 1930s.
He worked for the Patterson Land Company, a subsidiary of Mutual Realty Company, and worked on the Sharples Ranch at Paterson. The ranch was owned by his future brother-in-law, C. Wistar Sharples, and Mr. Sharples' father, Caspar Wistar Sharples, M.D., founder of the Patterson Land Company. He later purchased a farm bordering the Sharples Ranch and his parents' farm.
He married Nellie Yangle of Paterson during the Depression.
He enjoyed raising alfalfa, mint and corn; loved fishing on the Columbia and Snake Rivers; and was an expert horseman who participated in local rodeos.
Construction of the John Day Dam forced the Jensens to relocate. They bought a farm in Oakville, Wash. in the mid-1960s. After the Jensens divorced, he started a business as a commercial fisherman out of Newport and lived in Waldport for several years. He played a heroic role in the rescue of two men from a boat that capsized during a storm on Sept. 24, 1969.
Around 1975, he quit his commercial fishing business and moved to Portland, where he spent much time gardening, fishing on Sauvie Island, and helping his sister, Mary Wistar Sharples, manage several acres. Living in Portland also allowed him to spend more time with his brother, the late Howard Jensen, and another sister, the late Helen Krueger. After several years in Portland, he became the primary caregiver for his brother Howard, who was ill for many years.
Survivors include his sister, Mary Sharples of Portland; a nephew, Caspar "Cap" Sharples of North Bend; several nieces, including Dr. Gloria Sharples of Oakland, Calif.; several great- and great-great-nieces and nephews, including great-niece Marin-Shawn Sharples Haynes, great-great-niece, Audrey Fitzgerald Haynes and great-great-nephew, Alexander Wistar Haynes, all of Berkeley, Calif.; and many cousins in the United States and Denmark.
A private service will be held later this summer in Paterson, Wash. Donations may be made to further medical research and sent to the Wistar Institute, Development Office, 3601 Spruce St., Philadelphia, Pa. 19104.
Leaborn "Lee" Means
He was born in Nampa, Idaho on Dec. 22, 1925. He was a long-time resident of Burns.
A celebration of life memorial will be held at Atonement Lutheran Church, 2315 NW Coast Highway, Newport at 2 p.m. Saturday. William Foster Sr.
He was born in Walton on May 12, 1926 to Jasper Leroy Foster and Phoebe Adell Barnes. He served in the Army during World War II. He spent time in Fort Custer, Mich. and Camp Robinson, Ark., then served in Germany until 1948.
He married Mickie "Ida" E. Perin in Reno, Nev. on April 12, 1958. He worked on dams in the Cascades during the 1950s and `60s, then went to work for Lane County. He retired from Lane County in 1985. At that time, he moved to Florence from Eugene.
He enjoyed fishing, camping, motorcycle riding, going to garage sales, having garage sales, and talking on his CB radio.
Survivors include his wife, Mickie Foster of Florence; sons William Foster Jr. of Florence and Michael Foster of South Beach; daughters and sons-in-law Denise and Jim Ferren of South Beach and Karen and Armon Strack of Berea, Ky.; a brother and sister-in-law, Bob and Stella Foster of Florence; brothers-in-law Bill Perin, Larry Perin, and David Perin; eight nephews; two nieces; seven grandsons; and one granddaughter.
Instead of flowers, donations are suggested to the Florence Humane Society.
William Wallace Sr.
William Harvey Wallace Sr., 73, of Toledo died March 27, 1999 in Bellfountain.
He was born in Dawson on Dec. 25, 1925 to Kestner and Mabel (Ingram) Wallace. He was raised and educated in the Monroe/Bellfountain area. He graduated from Monroe High School.
He was employed in the forest products industry, and worked in many of the saw mills throughout Benton County. He retired in 1986. He served in World War II with the U.S. Navy from 1944-1946, and received an honorable discharge. He and his wife, Elsie, were married in Bellfountain on June 5, 1947.
He enjoyed growing dahlias. He was a member and past president of the Toledo Eagles #2219.
Survivors include his wife, Elsie, of Toledo; a son, William H. Wallace Jr. of Albany; daughters Kathy Ferguson, Karen McKibbon, Ruth Boddy, Rosemary Russell and Juanita Lacewell, all of Toledo; a brother, Harry Wallace of Corvallis; 15 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by one infant granddaughter, a sister and two brothers.
Visitation was held from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. today (Wednesday) at Bellfountain Cemetery. Pastor Greg Klein will officiate. Military honors will be provided by the American Legion Post 116. McHenry Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
