DELIA "DEE" ANN OLSON

Delia "Dee" Ann Olson, 51, of Smith River died suddenly Oct. 6, 2003, in Crescent City, of pulmonary disease.
She was born April 14, 1952, in Carmel, Calif., to Everett and Lorraine Catanos.
Mr. and Mrs. Olson had recently moved to Smith River from Orangevale, Calif.
Mrs. Olson was active in the Cub Scouts, serving as a den leader. She also volunteered at her children's schools. She raised three Canine Companion for Independence dogs. During her life she had donated more than six gallons of blood.
Survivors include her husband of 32 years, Dwayne Olson, of Smith River; children Dennis Olson of Sacramento, Calif., Russ and Denise Olson of Crescent City, Katelynn Olson of Sacramento, Ryan Olson of Sacramento, Katrina Olson of Smith River and Keath Olson of Smith River; mother Lorraine Castanos; sister Lynn Altenburg; brother Bob Castanos, all of Pacific Grove, Calif. Also surviving are three grandchildren.
Services will be at 4 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 11, at Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 1031 A St., Crescent City.
Her body has been donated for organ transplant and her cremated remains will be spread over the ocean near Hunter Rock.
HAROLD "CHUCK POTTER

A memorial service for Harold "Chuck" Potter is planned for 11 a.m. Friday, Oct. 10, at the Trinity Lutheran Church,1200 Easy St. Dr. Gordon Myrah will officiate.
A light lunch will be served following the services.

JAMES ALBIN MARTOLIN

James Albin Martolin, 65, of Gold Beach died Oct. 4, 2003, at Rogue Valley Medical Center in Medford of natural causes.
He was born Dec. 6, 1937, in Minneapolis, Minn. to Oiva Albin Martolin and Lorine Nellie Scalberg.
He married
Relda Jenkins, June 6, 1959, in Medford.
He taught high school English at Bershing School District in Nevada for 30 years.
He and his wife moved to Gold Beach from Nevada in 1994.
He was a member of the Nevada Junior Chamber of Commerce, the Nevada Old West Shooting Club and a former member of the First Presbyterian Church in Medford.
Survivors include wife Relda of Gold Beach; son Michael Martolin of Yerington, Wyo.; daughters Susan Hansen of Doyle, Calf. and Katherine Rutledge of Casper, Wyo.; father Oiva Albin Martolin. Also surviving are four grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his mother.
At his request there will be no services.
Arrangements are under the direction of Conger-Morris Funeral Directors, Medford.
ALLEN "DUANE" ZECKMAN

Allen "Duane" Zeckman, 71, of Brookings, died Sept. 28, 2003, in a Coos Bay hospital of natural causes.
Cremation is under the direction of Redwood Memorial Chapel.
MARK DOUGHTY
Obit dated: October 8, 2003
Mark Doughty, 44, of Brookings, died Oct. 4, 2003, in Crescent City, of natural causes.
He was born March 9, 1959, in San Francisco to Ray and Norma Fitch Doughty.
He graduated from high school in Kent, Wash.
He was hardworking throughout his life and had been employed at several of the retail businesses in Brookings. At the time of his death, he was working for White Rock Resort. He had also worked as a truck driver in earlier years.
He married
Betty Miller Nov. 12, 1988 in Reno, Nev. The couple had made their home in Brookings since September of 1989.
Doughty gave of his time and efforts to help others. He was a volunteer firefighter with the Brookings Fire Department for five years, and had also been a member of the sheriff's posse. He enjoyed woodworking, auto mechanics and painting cars.
Survivors include wife Betty; father and step-mother Ray and Tot Doughty of Brookings; mother Norma Fitch, of Grass Valley, Calif.; daughters Teresa Collins of Sacramento, Calif., Anna Graham of Salinas, Calif.; Christine Flores and her husband Alvin, of Modesto, Calif., Melanie Casas and her husband Jamie, of Modesto, Cristy Guajardo and Melissa Doughty, both of Bakersfield, Calif.; son Michael Contawe of Portland; sisters Kay Baden-Doughty of Morgan Hill, Calif., Jeannette Hightower and her husband Richard of Winters, Calif., Cindy Doughty and Heidi Utt, both of Missouri; brothers Frank Doughty of Arkansas and Matthew Doughty of Kansas City, Missouri. Also surviving are 14 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
A memorial fund in his name has been established at Umpqua Bank Harbor Branch.
A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 9, at Redwood Memorial Chapel, 1020 Fifield St., Brookings.
LYLE CARSON THOMPSON

Lyle Carson Thompson, known to his friends as "Carson," 66, died Oct. 5, 2003, in Curry County of cancer.
He was born on Dec, 25, 1936, in Honolulu, Hawaii to Earl Thompson and Adeline Smith.
He went to Konaweana High School on the Big Island of Hawaii and to McKinley High School on Oahu Island. His stepfather was a paniolo, or Hawaiian cowboy, and Carson worked with his step-father as a paneola. He also worked as a coffee picker and as a commercial fisherman while in Hawaii.
He joined the U.S. Army from Hawaii and served eight years, including 13 months with the Korean Occupation Forces. He returned to Honolulu after the service and worked several jobs, then moved to Pennsylvania. He was employed at Prudential Insurance for 30 years doing building maintenance, and had the reputation that there wasn't anything he was not able to repair.
He was a member of the Penobscott Native American Tribe, the Mitchell Clan. He enjoyed fishing, traveling and being an artist. He was president of the Tight End Fishing Club in Summer's Point, N.J., operating out of Gregory's Bar and Grill. One of his greatest joys, his family said, was raising his stepson, who grew up to serve in the U.S. Marines Corps and is currently a police officer in Camden, N.J.
Carson retired in 1991, having suffered a work-related disabling injury. He traveled, raised several step-children, and finally settled in Oregon.
On one of his travel excursions, Carson found Curry County and the beauty of the Whaleshead area. He loved living here, he would say. He had been in Curry County the last six years.
Survivors include foster mother Alice McCaughey, of Lansdale, Penn.; foster brother Donald McCaughey of Camden N.J.; foster sister Nancy Keehn and husband Allen, of Hatfield, Penn.; brothers Earl C. Thompson, Jr. and Pete Thompson and wife Nancy, who travel between Guernsey, Wyo. and Ligurta Station, Ariz.; sisters Arleen and husband Kenneth Watson, of Lewiston, Idaho and Leslie Rosa of Portland.
He had a sister, Barbara Jean Bettencourt, who lost contact with the family and it is not known if she is deceased or living.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his foster father.
No local services are planned.
At his request, his ashes will be scattered at a later date in the Pacific Ocean and in the Atlantic Ocean.

BONNIE ELLOUISE HEPTING

Bonnie Ellouise Hepting, 73, of Brookings, died September 27, 2003, at a private care home of natural causes following a long illness.
She was born January 30, 1930, in Los Angeles, Calif. to Elmer and Winifred Morton Kunkle.
She was raised in the Los Angeles/Glendale area.
She graduated from Glendale Union Academy in Glendale, Calif. She earned an Associates of Arts degree from Los Angeles Community College, graduated from the Radiology course at the Los Angeles County Hospital School of X-ray. She also attended Cypress Community College in Cypress, Calif., Western State University College of Law in Anaheim, Calif., and the Lumbleau Real Estate School in Costa Mesa, Calif.
She was a radiology technician for 19 years, working in La Mesa Hospital, Glendale Adventist Hospital, the Orthopedic Doctor's Group of Fullerton, Calif., St. Joseph's Hospital of Orange County, and the Boise, Idaho, VA Medical Center.
She sold real estate in San Jose, Calif., owned Oakland Express Printers and had also worked for Kelly Temporary Agency. She was a past officer in the Berkeley Yacht Club.
Hepting lived in several areas of the Northwest, including LaGrande, for 10 years. She had recently lived in the Medford area before moving to Brookings in 2001.
Over the years, Hepting had many interests and vocations. She was a deaconess and active member of the Brookings Seventh Day Adventist Church. She enjoyed writing poetry. She also liked to travel, and was an avid walker. Knitting and crochet were a labor of love, her family said, and many friends and family were recipients of her handmade items. She was easy to talk to, and made friends easily.
Survivors include daughter Cherie Sorenson and son-in-law Bob, of Hartwell, Ga.; son Martin "Joe" Harding and daughter-in-law Karen, of Medford; son Bob Friend and daughter-in-law Laura, of Brookings; daughter Teresa Owens of Rogue River; 10 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, John Henry Hepting, and by a son, John Wayne Friend.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, Oct. 6, at the Brookings-Harbor Christian Church, with Rev. Lance Knauss officiating. Graveside services will follow at 3:30 p.m. at the Phoenix Pioneer cemetery, Phoenix.
Arrangements are under the direction of Redwood Memorial Chapel.
GEORGE ALLEN ANDREWS

George Allen Andrews, 54, of Harbor died Sept. 28, 2003, in his home of natural causes.
He was born November 22, 1948, in Corvallis to Bill H. Andrews, Sr. and Thelma Marie Martin Andrews.
He was raised in Fontana, Calif. and attended Fontana schools.
He volunteered in 1966 to the Army and served in Vietnam. He was honorably discharged in 1968.
Andrews moved to Oregon in 1973 where he worked at Union Carbide and Precision Castpart Corp. in Portland.
He married
Christy Yost in Las Vegas in 1996. They lived in Portland until moving to Bookings in 1997.
Andrews was a current member of the board of the Fisherman Steelhead Association.
He loved the solace of the Brookings area, his family said, the mountains behind, the ocean in front, and the rivers on both sides of where he lived in Harbor. He enjoyed fishing and golfing. He was known for his sense of humor, kind and generous spirit, being a loving caring person, a great story teller, easy to talk to and made friends easily.
He is survived by his wife Christy, of Harbor; son and daughter-in-law Randy and Elisa Andrews of Kamuela, Hawaii; daughter and son-in-law Kristy and Scott Rountree of Virgin, Utah; stepsons and stepdaughters-in-law John and Christie Lankford of Portland and Jayson and Mandy Lankford of Merridian Idaho; mother Thelma Zeno of Fontana, Calif.; brothers and sisters-in-law Bill H. and Laura Andrews of Couer d'Alene, Idaho and Bob and Shannon Andrews of Las Vegas; and grandchildren Tyler, Haley and Dylon Rountree, Brandon and Elana Andrews, Kayla and Savannah and Rayanna Lankford.
He was preceded in death by his father, stepfather Joseph Zeno, and sister Wanda.
Cremation was under the direction of Redwood Memorial Chapel and Crematory.
PATSY ANN DINGLER

Patsy Ann Dingler, 68, of Gold Beach, died unexpectedly Sept. 26, 2003, at her home, of natural causes.
She was born November 10, 1934, in Miami, Okla. to Thomas Chester Wilson and Ethel Beatrice Lee Wilson.
As a child, Dingler moved to Oregon with her family, and was raised and educated in Oakridge. She graduated from Oakridge High School in 1952.
She married
George Dingler in Redmond on Dec. 5, 1970. Her husband died in 1997.
Dingler was employed for many years as a certified nursing assistant, and worked both in nursing homes and in private duty. She had a special talent for serving others in this capacity. She was devoted to patients in her care, her family said; especially her mother, who had been living with her.
She was an avid reader and enjoyed crossword puzzles and crocheting.
Dingler is survived by daughters Ellen Mellon and husband Serge of Gold Beach, Karen Goddard and husband Mark of Myerstown, Penn. and Pat Turner of Florence; mother Ethel Wilson of Gold Beach; brother Tom Wilson of Tumwater, Wash.; sister Verna Gober of Oakridge; and nine grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, son Levi Turner, her father, brother, and two grandchildren.
Memorials may be made to a favorite charity. A private family memorial gathering is planned.
Cremation is under the direction of Redwood Memorial Chapel & Crematory.
