Glen E. Traub

Obit dated: March 17, 2001

Glen E. Traub, 79, Medford, died March 14, 2001, at the Hearthstone Nursing Center in Medford.

Mr. Traub and his wife lived in Brookings for 36 years before moving to Medford two years ago.

He was born March 10, 1922, in Hardy, Neb., to John and Nellie (Lawson) Traub.

He served in the Naval Armed Guard in World War II.

He married Ruth Juanita Taylor Oct. 3, 1948, in Sequim, Wash.

Mr. Traub worked for the Brookings Plywood Mill for 20 years.

He was a member of the Lighthouse Assembly of God in Harbor and he enjoyed hunting.

Survivors are his wife f Brookings; daughters Kathy Barclay and Barbara Smith, both of Grants Pass; sons Rev. Cliff Traub of Modesto, Calif.; Rev. John H. Traub of Ashland; Tom T. Traub of Brookings; sisters Gladys S. Nobblitt of Vancouver, Wash.; Betty Nichols of Arizona.

Also surviving are 12 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren.

Visitation is planned for 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. today (March 17) and Sunday, at Conger-Morris Funeral Directors, Medford.

A memorial service is planned for Monday, March 19, at 2 p.m. at the New Life Family Bible Church, Sixth and C streets, Ashland. Rev. John Traub will officiate.

Interment will follow at Eagle Point National cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, 1311 NW 21st Ave., Portland, OR 97209.

Arrangements are under the direction of Conger-Morris Funeral Directors of Medford.

Robert C. Skinner Sr.

Obit dated: March 21, 2001

Robert C. Skinner Sr., 80, Brookings, died March 19, 2001, in Brookings of pneumonia.

He was born Oct. 25, 1920, in Cushing, Okla., to Mike and Ruth Skinner.

He graduated from Walla Walla College in Washington. He married Gladys Skinner Aug. 30, 1942, in Sikeston, Mo.

Mr. Skinner was a missionary in Iran for 14 years. He returned to the United States in 1963 and served as pastor at a number of churches in Washington and Oregon.

In 1984, he retired to Sweetholm where he and his wife owned and operated a health conditioning center.

He moved to Brookings in 1996 from Arlington.

He was a member of the Seventh Day Adventist Church.

Survivors are his wife, Arlington; sisters Elaine Derby, Hood River; Lenore Wagner, Walla Walla, Wash.; Lee Peterson, Seattle; Marilyn Stanford, Penn Valley, Calif.; brothers Joe Skinner, Seattle, Wash.; Don Skinner, Wenatchee, Wash.

Also surviving are several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Preceding him in death was his sister Wanda Gross.

A memorial service is scheduled for Saturday at 4:30 p.m. at Lents Seventh Day Adventist Church, 8835 SE Woodstock Blvd., Portland.

Pastor Floyd Matula will officiate.

Memorial contributions may be made to Three Angels Broadcasting Network, P.O. Box 220, West Frankfort, IL 62896.

Arrangements are under the direction of Litty's Funeral Directors.

Glenn Russell Reed

Obit dated: March 24, 2001

Glenn Russell Reed, 68, Crescent City, died March 20, 2001, in Medford.

He was born July 18, 1932, in Eureka, Calif.

He attended local schools before starting a career with Arcata Redwood Co. from the mid-1950s to the early 1980s.

Mr. Reed served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.

He left Arcata Redwood as a supervisor and began working for Tidewater Contractors as a construction foreman.

He was a 22-year resident of Del Norte County. He was a member of the Jed Smith Mountain Men and Ducks Unlimited.

Survivors are his son Forrest Reed of Alameda, Calif.; daughter Rosellen Davis of Highland Falls, N.Y.; brother Wayne Reed of Eureka; grandchildren Glenda Reed of Alameda, Calif.; Evan Davis of Highland Falls, N.Y.; friend Ken Ruth, Fair Oaks, Calif.

Memorial services will be held March 26 at 1 p.m. at Wier's Mortuary Chapel.

An inurnment service will follow at the Del Norte County Veteran's cemetery in Crescent City, conducted by the Jed Smith Mountain Men.

Arrangements are under the direction of Wier's Mortuary Chapel of Crescent City.

Larry Eugene Herbert

Obit dated: March 31, 2001

Larry Eugene Herbert, 62, San Carlos, Calif., died March 26, 2001, at his home.

He was born Aug. 18, 1938, in Wisconsin and raised on a farm. After graduating from high school, he joined the U.S. Navy aboard the USS Ranger as a radio technician.

He met his wife Joyce in 1958 and they were married shortly after.

Mr. Herbert worked for Burrough's/ Unisys for 37 years. He retired in 1998 and spent his last two years in Brookings fishing and enjoying life as a volunteer for the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary.

Survivors are his wife Joyce Ursula Herbert of Crescent City; daughter Lavonda Williams; grandchildren Michelle Mattocks and Crystal Williams; sister and brother-in-law Karen and Lee Craigo; nephews Christopher and Nicholas Craigo.

Memorial services will be today (March 31) at 1 p.m. at the White Oaks Chapel in San Carlos. He will be laid to rest at sea in Brookings.

The family requests remembrances be made to the American Cancer Society (Huntington's Disease) 31 W. Sixth St., Medford, OR 97501 and Mission Hospice of San Mateo County, 151 West 20th Ave., San Mateo, CA 94403.

Kenneth Payne

Obit dated: March 31, 2001

Kenneth Payne, 83, Brookings, died March 29, 2001, in Brookings.

He was born April 29, 1917, in Brookings to Henry and Gladys Payne.

He attended an old school house up the Chetco River until eighth grade. He graduated from Brookings-Harbor High School in 1933.

Mr. Payne served in World War II in the Pacific.

He married Ruth Marie Johnson in 1943 in Seattle. He worked at Agnew Timber and retired in 1982.

He was a past president of the Masons, a member of the Lions Club, a 20-year member of the Upper Chetco School Board and a member of the Educational Service District.

Mr. Payne and his brothers participated in an Azalea Festival as pioneers of the Brookings area.

Survivors are wife of Brookings; son Channon Payne of Brussels, Belgium; brothers Lawrence Payne of Gold Beach; Donald and Henry Payne, both of Brookings.

Also surviving are two grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, son Alan Payne, sisters Dorothy Cate and Evelyn Merritt.

A memorial service is planned for Monday, April 2, at 2 p.m. at the Masonic Temple, 416 Azalea Park Road. A private inurnment will follow at Ward Memorial cemetery.

Richard Inman

Obit dated: April 4, 2001

Richard Inman, 77, Harbor, died March 31, 2001, at home of cancer.

He was born May 26, 1923, in Pocatello, Idaho, to Lloyd and Mary Inman.

He grew up and went to school in Sparks, Nev.

He married Myrta Inman Dec. 2, 1946, in Sparks.

Mr. Inman served in the U.S. Army during World War II in the Pacific Theater.

He worked for the Reno Fire Department before retiring in 1973.

He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

Survivors are his wife of Brookings; daughter Cheri Dietz of Ocean Shores, Wash.; brother James Inman of Sparks, Nev.; sisters Dorothy Wilson of Sparks, Nev.; Bessie Wray of Manhattan, Kan.

Also surviving are two grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Preceding him in death were his parents; daughter Jaqueline Best; sister Patricia Howden.

Memorial donations may be made to Curry County Hospice, P.O. Box 746, Gold Beach, OR 97444.

Arrangements are under the direction of Litty's Funeral Directors, Brookings Chapel.
