INDEPENDENCE - William Thomas Francke, Jr., the son of William Thomas Francke, Sr. and Ruth (Hayes) Francke was born in Lockford, Calif. and reared in Seattle, Wash. After completing his formal education in the Seattle public school system, Bill enlisted in the United States Coast Guard Service and subsequently served with distinction at several life saving stations along the Pacific Northwest Coast. Following honorable discharge, Bill entered law enforcement and served in the King County Sheriff's Department until a service-related injury forced him into early medical retirement. During his tenure in law enforcement Bill volunteered for many after-hour assignments including safety officer for the Lake Washington Gold Cup Boat Races and numerous citizens' boards for crime prevention. Bill also found time to garner a Private Pilot's License while living in Washington. He subsequently worked in security at the Boeing Air Museum, fulfilling a lifelong dream to utilize his vast amateur hobby knowledge about all things airworthy.
In 1991 Bill and his wife, Dee moved to Independence, Ore. Bill's commitment to aviation and law enforcement, and a keen sense of history quickly gave him new friends and responsibilities. Bill joined the Oregon Wing of the Civil Air Patrol. In time his efforts won him the rank of Major and assignment as Salem's Squadron Commander. He held this position until reassignment into the Wing as Assistant Inspector General. While serving in the CAP, Bill flew many search missions and was awarded two coveted Life Saving Certificates. Other accomplishment and commitments include, Wagon Master of the Polk County Wagon Train Commission for the 1993 Oregon Trail re-enactment, recipient of the Independence/Monmouth Citizen of Distinction Award, past President of the Polk County Chapter of the Oregon Pilot's Assn., sustaining member of the National Rifle Assn., active member of Chapter 292 of the Experimental Aircraft Assn., advisor to the local Explorer Post of the Boy Scouts of America, various offices in the Independence Homeowners Assn., and volunteer on the Independence Community Disaster Relief Board.
William Thomas Francke, Jr. is survived by his wife, Dee of Independence; daughter, Cindy Knight of Lynnwood, Wash.; son, William Thomas Francke III of Pacific, Wash.; son, Michael Goddard of McMinnville; daughter, Jacquie Kline of Spokane, Wash.; daughter, Wendy Butler of Provo, Utah; son, Jon Horton of Phoenix, Ariz.; 11 grandchildren; and 2 great-grandchildren; sister, Lyn Welch of Bothell, Wash.; sister, Carol Connolly of Kansas City, Kan; and brother, David Francke of Mulkilteo, Wash. He is preceded in death by his parents and one son, Richard Goddard.
Viewing will be held from 6 to 8 p.m., Fri., March 4, 2005 at Farnstrom Mortuary. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m., Sat., March 5, 2005 at Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 783 Church Street West, Monmouth, Ore. Burial will follow immediately at the Smith cemetery south of Monmouth. In lieu of flowers, please make any remembrance contributions to Willamette Valley Hospice and/or the Civil Air Patrol Youth Education Fund. Louise Holder of Sheridan , Oregon died February 26, 2005 at the Sheridan Care Center. She was 86 years old.
Louise was born January 12, 1919 in Walters, Oklahoma to Alfred and Hattie Mae Bruce. Louise worked with her family as a roaming crop picker throughout Texas, Oklahoma and Arizona. Married January 5, 1938 to Claude and Louise moved to Burbank California in 1940. Widowed in 1967 she worked as a school picture photographer throughout California from 1969 to 1973. In 1973 she moved to Visalia, California to care for her parents and in 1993 she moved to Oregon and in 1994 she moved into the Sheridan Care Center. She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Sheridan, Oregon. An avid player of number finder and word finder. She was somewhat of a confidant and adviser as she loved to talk with folks and share stories. She loved her family and keeping track of activities and sharing stories and photos.

JUDITH FAGALY AUSTIN
Judith “Judy” Austin (Fagaly) passed away on January 1, 2016 in Mountain View, California at the age of 77. Judy was the first of four children born on February 18, 1938 in White Salmon, Washington to her parents, Clifford Fagaly and Donna Fagaly Poling.
Her family moved to Delake, Oregon (now Lincoln City) to open Cliff’s Drive-In Cafe in 1946, later to expand into Cliff’s Restaurant; after Cliff Fagaly’s passing in 1967 the restaurant added the Bunker Lounge. While growing up, Judy helped the family run the business. Judy was artistic and during the holidays, was commissioned to paint thematic pictures on Cliff’s and other local businesses aiming to get into the holiday spirit. She also played the piano since childhood.
She graduated Taft High School in 1956 and after a freshman year at University of Oregon studying journalism and a sophomore year at Southern Oregon University focusing on art and excelling in painting and ceramics.
Judy married
in 1958, and gave birth to her first son, born in 1960. Judy’s second son was born in 1963. Judy was a devoted mother and committed homemaker, raising her two sons as the family moved from to Portland, Oregon in 1960, to Frankfort, Kentucky in 1966, to Decatur, Georgia in 1968, to Richmond, California in 1969, then to Terra Linda, California in 1970.
During these years in addition to her homemaking responsibilities, she maintained creative interests in painting, piano and sewing, often creating her son’s Halloween costumes from scratch. Once in California, she along with her family and two dogs would take an annual drive to Oregon to spend Christmas in Lincoln City with her widowed mother and younger siblings Clifford, Tanya and Teresa.
Tragically in 1977, she suffered a traumatic brain injury and was thereafter institutionalized for the remainder of her life in various nursing care centers in the San Francisco Bay Area. Her last years were spent in Valley House Rehabilitation Center in Santa Clara, California.
Judy is survived by her two sons, Greg and Cary, two sisters, Tanya and Teresa and three grandchildren, Jesse, Martin and Daniel. She is preceded in death by her brother Clifford.
A private memorial will be held at Bateman Funeral Home in Newport, Oregon on January 23, 2016.

JOSEPH (JOE) PETERSON
March 17, 1926 – May 8, 2016
Joseph (Joe) Peterson passed away on Sunday, May 8, 2016, in Tigard, Ore.
Joe was born on March 17, 1926, in Denver, Colo. He worked as a regional collections manager for International Harvester and was transferred to Portland in 1968. In 1991, he and his wife Ruth moved to Lincoln City to live out their retirement years. Ruth preceded him in death in 2012.
Joe was active in the Lincoln City area for many years, working with PADL, Lincoln County Food Bank, St. Augustine’s Church and most recently enjoying his time with The Lincolnaires singing group. He enjoyed traveling, hosting family get-together's and wintering in Indio, Calif., with Ruth.
Joe leaves behind his legacy, values, faith and love in his 10 children, 17 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. on Friday, May 20, 2016, at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church, 9905 SW McKenzie St., Tigard, OR followed by a reception at the church.

Ruth Dorothy Rosentreter

Ruth Dorothy Rosentreter, 85, of Portland, Oregon died April 22, 2005 in at the Hopewell House in Portland, Oregon.
Born September 25, 1919 in Portland, Oregon the daughter of Gottleob and Minna Reutter. A life long resident of NE Portland, she graduated from Jefferson High School. Worked at Jantzen knitting mills during WWII sewing sleeping bags for soldiers. She married
Roderick Rosentreter in 1945. He preceded her in death in 1994. Beloved wife, mother, and friend to many.
She enjoyed hunting and fishing with her husband. Enjoyed raising dahlias and was a judge in the Portland Dahlia Society. Also did extensive traveling during retirement.
A lifelong member of Immanuel Baptist church until it's closure. Member of Rivercrest Community Church at her death.
Ruth died on her 60th wedding anniversary to be with her husband.
Survivors include daughters Nancy, Shirley, and Valerie, 5 grandchildren, and 3 great-grandchildren.

Elizabeth Ann Fredette

With Family in attendance, Elizabeth Ann Fredette, peacefully passed away on April 27, 2005.
Elizabeth was born in Sauxonville, Massachusetts, April 5, 1941 the daughter of Robert E. and Doris L. (Gorman) McAdams. The family moved to Framingham, Massachusetts where Elizabeth was raised and attended North Framinhaw High School. After graduation the family relocated to Orange, Massachusetts where she accepted a job at Starretts Tool Company and met and married
her life time boyfriend Richard E. Fredette on October 6, 1961. They had two wonderful sons. There Elizabeth worked with children that had learning disabilities.
A vacation brought Elizabeth and her family to Oregon. They fell in love with the area and decided to stay. Elizabeth loved her family and gardening. Other activities Elizabeth enjoyed were bowling, water skiing and swimming.
Elizabeth is survived by her; husband, Richard; two sons Timothy and Todd; three grandchildren; three brothers Robert, Joseph and Kevin McAdams, Sisters Sheila Jones and Ginny Tsaknaridis, and nephews and nieces in Massachusetts and Oregon.
Remembrances in her name can be made to Providence Hospice.
