Kenneth Fader
Kenneth Marvin Fader of Depoe Bay, died May 4, 2011, of cardiac arrest. He was 68.
He was born Feb. 22, 1943, in Buffalo, N.Y., to Laverne “Pete” Fader and Minetta Rosana Viau Fader. His parents were Canadian citizens but spent their adulthood in Buffalo.
Una Vida, one life, was his personal motto and that’s the way he lived his life.
As a teenager, Kenn spent time with his dad at Ontario hunting camps. Being the youngest, he was assigned kitchen duty which engendered a lifelong passion for cooking. Some friends still refer to him as “The Chef.”
While in Lafayette High School he used the facilities of the prestigious West Side Rowing Club rowing in 8-man an 4-man sculls and as coxswain in the Niagara River.
Kenn’s family had a summer cottage on Lake Erie in southern Ontario. He spent his summers boating, swimming and water skiing. His intricate knowledge of boats, learned from his dad, led to summer jobs repairing boats. In the winters, he worked at ski shops waxing and repairing skis. In his spare time he became an avid snow skier.
He married
Beverly Hartman and in 1973 they moved to Denver when he took a job managing the entire Rocky Mountain region for a major national pet supply company. With all the nearby ski areas, he honed his snow skiing skills, winning and placing in many amateur skiing events.
He enjoyed hunting, fishing and river rafting and performed well in all those areas.
After a divorce he landed in the Colorado high country living at 10,400 feet above sea level working for a mining company searching for molybdemun. He also worked as a facilitator for his best friend, Tom Lowes, a well-known commercial photographer.
In Colorado, he met his second wife, Janet, and a magical love was born that lasted 27 years until his death. His wry sense of humor was the deal maker for Janet. When asked how many years they had been together the answer was always “not enough.”
In 1989, they moved to Depoe Bay and worked in real estate sales. Kenn was the owner/ broker for Rinehart Realty until his retirement in 2002. He was active in the North Lincoln Board of Realtors, serving as the group’s president for a year and being named Realtor of the Year.
He is survived by his wife, Janet; his brother, Rob Fader of Cheektowaga, N.Y.; his daughters, Joelene Nelson of Evergreen, Colo. and Shannon Fader of Conifer, Colo; and three grandchildren.
Kenn’s ashes will be scattered in the Pacific Ocean on Memorial Day following the Fleet of Flowers. That will be followed by a wake at his home.

Neil Loran Quade of Lincoln City
Neil Loran Quade died May 21, 2011, at his Lincoln City home. He was 69.
Neil was born in Oregon City on July 16, 1941, to Ted and O'Della Quade. He was the eldest brother and second eldest child, of eight siblings (Andrea, Harlan, Paul, Joanne, Art, Brian, and Janice). The Quade family moved to the Oregon Coast during Neil's youth. He attended local schools and was in the class of 1959 at Taft High School.
During Neil's service in the Army, he was stationed in Germany and worked as a draftsman on a project converting the German telephone system. While in Germany, he met his wife Johanna. They married
in Frankfurt, Germany, in 1963. Neil and Johanna decided to settle in Neil's hometown on the Oregon Coast where they raised their two daughters, Susan and Cindy.
Always a builder, Neil's lifework was the construction company he founded in the 1960s. Starting out in homebuilding, Quade Commercial Construction grew to build hundreds of projects on the Oregon Coast - schools, fire stations, performing arts centers, libraries, churches, office buildings, banks, warehouses, multi-family dwellings, mixed use buildings, restaurants, hotels, the list goes on.... Over his career he gained an immense amount of knowledge on building, and particularly building for the coastal climate. He carried out business as a straight-shooting, honest, get-the-job-done general contractor. He enjoyed his work greatly and was very driven to helping people attain their building needs.
Over the years Neil and Johanna took on many projects together, building several custom homes, a kit car, and side businesses together. They shared in the joy of raising two daughters and supported each other through the loss of their daughter, Susan, in 1991. Neil together with his family traveled extensively, and enjoyed seeing the far reaches of the world. In recent years they traveled to Japan, Mexico, Israel, Jordan, and on a small ship to many ports of call in the Mediterranean. Over the last several years, Neil had worked together with his daughter, Cindy, an architect, doing design-build projects. He was a Mariners' baseball fan, read historical non-fiction, and enjoyed going to car shows.
One of Neil's passions was sport fishing and boats. In 2004, after a few years of hard work, Neil and his brothers completed the Low Bidder Two. This 35-foot handcrafted wooden boat was launched in the Yaquina Bay. Neil spent many halibut season weekends fishing and being out on the ocean. Boating had been part of his life since his time in the Sea Scouts while growing up.
Neil is survived by his wife, Johanna Quade; his daughter, Cynthia "Cindy" Quade; and his siblings Andrea Zimmerman, Harlan Quade, Art Quade, Brian Quade, and Janice Erickson.
His daughter, Susan Quade; his brother Paul Quade; and his sister Joanne Bolton, all died earlier.
Funeral Services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 28, at the Congregational Church, 1760 N.W. 25th St, Lincoln City, with a reception following. Interment will follow at Pacific View Memorial Gardens.
In lieu of flowers, donations to the North Lincoln County Historical Museum, 4907 S.W. Highway 101, Lincoln City, OR 97367, are suggested.
