Elizabeth Arfstrom
Elizabeth Anne Arfstrom of Lincoln City, Ore., died March 28, 2011, at Samaritan North Lincoln Hospital. She was 82.
Elizabeth was born Jan. 13, 1929, in Blue Island, Ill., to Charles and May Adams.
Mary L. King
Mary L. King of Lincoln City, Ore., died March 31, 2011, at Samaritan North Lincoln Hospital. She was 90.
Mary was born Sept. 11, 1920, in Portland, Ore., to William Bundy and Lillie La Belle Bundy.
Timothy Viles
Timothy Patrick Viles died April 15, 2011, at his home in Lincoln City. He was 52.
Tim was born on Oct. 11, 1958, in Prineville, Ore., to Melvin and Mary Viles.
Tim graduated from Crook County High School in 1976 and attended Oregon Institute of Technology. Afterward, he began work at Tectronix and later at Key Technology. Tim proceeded to earn his bachelor’s degree from Eastern Oregon University in Business Administration. After moving to Lincoln City with his family in 1995, Tim continued his education and became certified as a CPA. He worked for multiple organizations during his career in finance, including Chinook Winds Casino, Salem-Keizer School District, and Siletz Tribal Business Corporation.
Tim married
Tamara Jones in 1983 and they had four children Joel, Sydney and Ryan Viles of Portland, Ore., and Alyson Viles of Lincoln City.
Tim enjoyed golfing, hunting, fishing, playing tennis, and riding his motorcycle. He was also dedicated to supporting his children in their activities, such as serving as a Stroke and Turn Official for Oregon Swimming.
He is survived by his four children; his mother, Mary Service Viles of Prineville, Ore.; his four brothers, David Viles of Eugene, Ore., Daniel Viles of Prineville, Curtis Viles of Prineville, and Andrew Viles of Eugene; his two sisters, Melissa Viles of Prineville and Cynthia Viles of Portland.
His father, Melvin Viles, died earlier.
A service will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, April 21, at the Congregational Church of Lincoln City, 1760 N.W. 25th St.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Portland Alcohol Research Center of Oregon Health and Science University.

Cleo Mae Bowman
Cleo Mae Bowman died peacefully on April 14, 2011. She was 85.
Cleo was born on Oct. 12, 1925, to Ellen Christianson Tate and Maurice Tate on the family farm near Ambrose, N.D. Her grandparents were homesteaders of the farm.
Cleo graduated from high school in Crosby, N.D., in 1943 and one week later caught the train to Minneapolis, Minn., to start her business career and live with her Aunt Ida and Uncle Sewell Stinson. In 1946, Cleo and her long-time friend, Verna, decided to head west and traveled on the Great Northern train stopping in Portland. Within two days, both ladies had located a residence and landed jobs.
In 1947, Cleo met Samuel Thurston Cribbs II whom she married
. They moved to Taft, now part of Lincoln City, along the Oregon Coast, where they had a small cafe and started their family of five children. Together they later owned and operated for many years with their children the Tillamook Dairy route along the "20 Miracle Miles" in Lincoln County.
In 1972, Cleo met Ronald Lloyd Bowman and they married
in 1975. Ron was a bachelor with no children of his own. He loved and cared for Cleo and her children until his unexpected death in 1980.
Cleo loved to dance, music and read. She volunteered for years at the Gresham Library. She also traveled; of her many adventures, her favorites were in Italy and Thailand, where she rode an elephant.
Cleo is survived by her sister, Ellen "Sweet" Anderson of Great Falls, Mont.; her five children, Jacklyn Oswald of Portland, Samuel Cribbs III (Linda) of Shady Cove, Ore., Boyd Cribbs (Susan) of Dallas, Ore., Patricia Yancey (Paul) of Prineville, Ore., and Richard Cribbs (Angela) of Portland; 10 grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews.
Her parents; four of her siblings; Sam Cribbs; and Ron Bowman died earlier.
A memorial of her life will be held at a later date in Gresham, Ore.
Donations may be made in Cleo's name to Willamette Falls Hospice, 1505 Division St., Oregon City, OR 97045, to whom the family expresses their absolute gratitude for their loving care of their mother in her final weeks.
Arrangements were handled by Gresham Memorial Chapel.
Cleo is interred at Willamette National cemetery alongside Ronald Bowman.
Edward Ketola
Edward Victor Ketola of Lincoln City died April 8, 2011, at his home. He was 92.
Edward was born June 9, 1918, to Mary and Gust Ketola on the Siletz River Highway in Oregon.
Edward graduated from Taft High School and Oregon State University where he studied forestry. He was in the U.S. Army Air Corps from October 1941 to November 1945. He retired from his logging company. Edward was a member of the American Legion and the Oregon State Grange. His hobbies included dancing, word puzzles, reading, TV, and his family.
He is survived by his children, Connie (Loyle) Rogers, Tammy (Lyman) Dean, Sandra (Randy) Peterson and Joyce Reller; grandchildren Todd Rogers, Shannon Rogers, Belinda Smith and Jennifer Farrester; numerous great- and great-great-grandchildren; other relatives Kathy, John and Kyle Humphries, Donald and Gina Ketola, Donald F., Tawny and Keagan Ketola, Robert Ketola and Onawa Driver, Michelle, John and Maddox Law, Alyssa Perkins, Deana Ketola, Patrick Barstow and Sandy.
His wife, Marjorie Sutton; his brother, Frank Ketola; and sister “Aunt Ollie” Ketola died earlier.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 10 a.m. May 28, at 10460 Siletz Highway, 10.5 miles from Kernville.

William John
William “Junior” Clark John, 77, of Salem, peacefully lost his battle to Pulmonary Fibrosis surrounded by his family at home on April 17, 2011. He was 77.
Junior was born July 1, 1933, to Clark and Eva (Goodell) John in Siletz, Ore.
He served in the United States Army from 1953 to 1955, with tours in Germany. When he returned, he followed the “love of his life” Jane Irene Service to California, participating in the “Termination Relocation Program” through the Siletz Tribe. Junior and Jane married
on Oct. 14, 1955. Together they raised their three children in California.
Junior was an active man who thoroughly enjoyed sports. He bowled, played softball and basketball, and, along with his cousin, Dennis Lane, coached his son’s winning Little League teams. Junior was a huge fan of the Oakland Raiders, the Oakland A’s and the Oakland Oaks. These sports traditions are carried on through his children and grandchildren.
Junior and Jane returned to Oregon in 1981. Junior worked for the Chemawa Indian School in the Willamette Valley until his retirement in 1997.
His favorite pastimes involved being with others. He loved going to his grandchildren’s sporting events. Now and then, he liked to gamble. Junior was an avid pinochle player and he played often with family and friends. He even let them win, occasionally. The event he looked forward to attending every year was the big New Years Eve celebration at Chinook Winds Casino.
Junior is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Jane; daughters Glendora (Justin) Osborn of Okemah, Okla. and Diana (Lonnie) Kronsteiner of Salem, Ore.; son William C. John, Jr. of Lincoln City; grandsons Garett John, Jeremy Smith and Markus John; granddaughter Samantha John; sisters Gylene (Earl) Jones, Josephine John, and Elizabeth John; his brothers, Robert “Johnnie” John, David John, Leroy John, Lindsay John, and Ronald (Denise) John; numerous nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
Junior’s family is grateful to Hospice for the love and care they showed Junior and his family. They also appreciate all the support from extended family and friends.
Funeral services have been held.

Amy P. Murr
Amy P. Murr died April 13, 2011, of complications from dementia. She was 88.
Amy was born Jan. 8, 1923, in Rose Lodge, Ore., to Elsie and Carl Paul. She grew up on the family homestead on Slick Rock Creek, attended the Rose Lodge School, and graduated from Taft High School. She then moved to Portland where she worked as a bookkeeper and met her husband Richard Landing. They moved to Los Angeles and had two daughters Charmane and Polly. They divorced and Amy moved back to Rose Lodge and in 1962 married
James Murr, with whom she had a daughter Patty.
Jim and Amy bought a house in Gleneden Beach where she worked for the water office. She loved spending time walking the beach and grew a lovely garden. They eventually had a new home built on Schooner Creek Road. In 1971, Jim and Amy moved to Arizona. They lived for many years in Cottonwood. Amy collected Indian pottery and would walk and collect pieces of broken pots.
In the early ‘90s they moved back to Oregon to Crooked River Ranch and, as Jim's health declined, back to Lincoln City in 2000. Jim died in 2002 and Amy continued to live on her own until 2008 when dementia no longer permitted.
Amy loved animals, travel, going for walks, and her children. She was kind and gracious to all and won hearts with her smile and wit even as her dementia progressed. She will be dearly missed.
Amy is survived by her younger brother, Leslie Paul of Salem; three daughters Charmane Landing of Eugene, Polly (Dave) Studley of Newport, and Patricia Laux of Flagstaff, Ariz.; and four grandchildren.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, May 7, at Lincoln City Rehabilitation. Afterward all are encouraged to walk on the beach in Amy's honor.

Raymond Murphy
Raymond A. Murphy, of Gleneden Beach, Ore., died peacefully on April 14, 2011. He was 88.
Raymond was born Nov. 2, 1922, in Brooklyn, N.Y.
Mr. Murphy and his wife, Mona, moved to Gleneden Beach in 1988 from Northern California, when he retired from his manufacturer’s representative business. They had vacationed in the area and were attracted by its beauty and moderate climate.
He is survived by his three children, Barbara Groves of New York, N.Y., Richard Murphy of Boston, Mass., and Joan Murphy of Corte Madera, Calif.
His wife, Mona, as well as his first wife, Ruth (Voss), died earlier.
He had many friends in the area and was active and independent until the week of his death.
Services were privately held.
Clifford Greenfield
Clifford Greenfield of Lincoln City, died at his home on April 27, 2011. He was 71.
Cliff was born Jan. 30, 1940.

Connie Myers
Connie Jo Myers died April 29, 2011, in Corvallis, Ore. She was 68.
Connie was born Aug. 21, 1942, in El Dorado, Butler County, Kan., to Ralph and Helen Louise Parscal Davis. She grew up in Pittsburg, Calif., and attended Pacifica High School graduating in 1960. She spent most of her life in Antioch, Calif., before retiring to Depoe Bay on the Oregon Coast. She married
Ed Myers on June 27, 1959, in Pittsburg, Calif. She then raised her sons. Later she began working for Wells Fargo Bank first as a teller and then a manager. Connie retired from Wells Fargo.
Connie loved beaches, the rain, her pride in her home and computer games. Connie also loved ice cream and cafe-de-mores; she had a license plate with “café-de-mores” on it. Connie also enjoyed her time with friends and her husband. She loved a red wagon made especially for her by her son, Bryan. She was a member of the Baptist Church since 1954 and also a member of the Elks Club. She spent winters near Palm Springs where she enjoyed ATV rides, painting rocks, and exploring the Chocolate Mountains. Ed has chosen the Chocolate Mountains to scatter her remains.
Connie is survived by her husband, Eddie; her two sons, Eddie Myers of Oakley, Calif., and Bryan Myers of Isleton, Calif.; her two sisters, Beverly Seaman of Discovery Bay, Calif., and Vicki Cooper of Depoe Bay, Ore,; her four grandchildren, Melissa, Eddie Jr., Eric and Ashleigh; and two great-grandchildren Jessica and Jacob.
Her brother, Jerry Davis, died earlier.
A celebration of life will be held at 11 a.m. May 14, 2011, at Willark Park in the hall, 3700 N. Highway 101, Depoe Bay.
