John White
John Molyneux White, 87, a former Lincoln County resident and of LaPine, Ore. and Yuma, Ariz., died at his home in Yuma on Feb. 19, 1999.
He was born in Steele, N.D. on May 29, 1911 to John T. and Lydia Anna Molyneux White.
He married Georgia Maxine Curnes in Sigourny, Iowa on June 26, 1936. For several years, he was employed with the California School District.
Survivors include his wife, Georgia, of LaPine and Yuma; a son, Sammy White of Portland; three grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
Graveside service will be held at Eureka Cemetery in Newport, weather permitting, or at Bateman Funeral Home at 11:30 a.m. today (Wednesday). Interment will be in Eureka Cemetery. Bateman Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
Kendra Teigen
Kendra Teigen was stillborn at Pacific Communities Hospital in Newport on Feb. 17, 1999.
Survivors include her parents, Joseph and Kathy Kafoury Teigen of Newport; a sister, Erika Teigen of Newport; grandparents Bettie and Gale Teigen of Newport and Paul and Kathy Kafoury of Alpine; great-grandparents Doris Morse of Newport and Paul Sr. and Virginia Kafoury of South Beach; aunts and uncles Mike and Marie McQuaw, Harry Teigen, Sandra Teigen and Pat Mayhorn; and cousins, Jessy Jilly, Axel and Austin McQuaw and Dale Doud.
Funeral services were held Monday at Bateman Funeral Home in Newport.
Wanda Santa
Wanda Lee Santa, 56, of Portland died of cancer at a Portland foster care home on Feb. 11, 1999.
She was born in San Fernando, Calif. on Nov. 6, 1942. She graduated from school in the San Fernando Valley in 1960.
She was married in 1960 and divorced in 1981. A bank manager, she lived in Salem and Newport before moving to Portland in 1992. She was a member of the Oregon Bankers Association.
Survivors include her father, George "Pat" Kirkpatrick of Salem; daughters Suzan Frye of Portland and Robin Jones of Olympia, Wash.; brothers George "Bud" Kirkpatrick and Dennis Kirkpatrick of Mercer Island, Wash.; and two grandchildren.
Memorial services were held Feb. 13 in Portland. Remembrances are suggested to the cancer society.
Robert "Bobby" Gribble Jr.
Robert Earl "Bobby" Gribble Jr., 63, of Eddyville died of Lou Gehrig's Disease (amyotrophic lateral sclerosis) at Oregon Health Sciences University in Portland on Feb. 23, 1999.
He was born in Newberg on June 30, 1935 to Robert and Anna M. Gribble. He graduated from Toledo High School in 1953. He was a U.S. Navy veteran.
He married his wife, Nancy, in Newport on Nov. 7, 1991.
He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Siletz and the Toledo Fraternal Order of Eagles #2219.
Survivors include his wife, Nancy, of Eddyville; sisters Carole Linhart and Janice Rawson, both of Toledo; Kathy Jackson of San Diego, Calif., Elizabeth Thompson of Clackamas, and Patti Gribble and Leah Moore, both of Albany; step-children John Zimmerman of Eddyville, Dana and Lonnie Werner of Monroe, and Darcy and Paul Womack of Albany; eight grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; five nephews; one niece; and one great-niece.
Services will be held at 1 p.m. Monday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Newport. A gathering for family and friends will be held directly following the service at the Toledo Eagles Lodge.
Thomas Cochran
Thomas Wilson Cochran, 80, of Waldport died at Pacific Communities Hospital in Newport on March 1, 1999.
He was born in Eagle Butte, Mont. on Nov. 29, 1918 to Raymond and Nelle Rauch Cochran. He had been a resident of Waldport since 1956.
He married Naomi Wolfe in Waldport on Oct. 22, 1939. From 1940 to 1955. he farmed in Idaho; from 1955 to 1970. he was employed at the Waldport Chevron Station. For three years. he was employed with the State of Oregon as a park ranger at South Beach before transferring to the State Highway Department, where he worked for nine years before retiring in 1979.
In 1973, he was chosen as Oregon State Employee of the Year by the State Employees Association. He was a member of St. Anthony's Catholic Church in Waldport.
Survivors include his wife, Naomi, of Waldport; daughters Colleen Nickerson of Waldport, C. Virginia Garretz of Salem and Patrice Baptist of Grand Canyon Country, Calif.; a brother, Phillip Cochran of Bazelton, Idaho; sisters Coral Wright of Waldport and Joan Laur of McCall, Idaho; nine grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Alder Grove Cemetery in Waldport. Bateman Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
Margaret Schwartz
Margaret Louise Schwartz, 74, of South Beach died at Pacific Communities Hospital in Newport on March 1, 1999.
She was born in Deadwood, S.D. on Oct. 3, 1924 to Jack and Mary Genre Owen. She had been a resident of South Beach since June 1998.
She married David Schwartz in Fallon, Mont. on June 3, 1961. For 29 years ,she was employed as a school teacher in Montana, North Dakota and California. She was a member of Atonement Lutheran Church in Newport.
Survivors include her husband, David, of South Beach; daughters Celia K. Taylor of Port Townsend, Wash., Anita S. Burnaford of Oakland, Calif., Victoria J. Garcia of Yachats, Kathy L. Sedell of Battleground, Wash. and Judy G. Bash of Auburn, Wash.; sons Duane Ewalt of Dickenson, Texas and Mark D. Schwartz of Prospect; a brother, Richard Owen of Hammond, Mont.; sisters Celia Yates of Hammond, Mont. and Betty Hanson of Golden Valley, Ariz.; 17 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren.
Services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at Atonement Lutheran Church in Newport. Interment will be at Eureka Cemetery in Newport. Bateman Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Vivian Weeden
Vivian Dalby Weeden, 66, of Waldport died at her home on Feb. 27, 1999.
She was born in El Paso, Texas on Nov. 3, 1932 to John and Jennie Vivian Chappel Dalby. She married Richard Weeden in El Paso, Texas on Nov. 21, 1956.
For 12 years, she was employed with Burlington Northern as a data processor for air freight. She was a member of St. Luke's Episcopal Church in Waldport.
Survivors include her husband, Richard; daughters and sons-in-law Jenny and Ron Moreland of Las Flores, Calif. and Kathleen and Steve Adams of Waldport; and grandchildren John C. Waite and Robert W. Waite.
Services were held at St. Luke's Episcopal Church on Tuesday. Interment was at Yachats Cemetery. The family suggests donations to the American Cancer Society. Bateman Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
Juanita "Judy" Doerfler
Juanita Mae "Judy" Doerfler, 77, of Newport died at Salem Memorial Hospital on Feb. 25, 1999.
She was born in Salem on July 2, 1921 to Bert C. and Annie Sharde Mitchell. She was raised and attended school in Salem.
She married Kenneth Doerfler Sr. in Salem on June 24, 1940. She had been a resident of Salem until moving to Newport in 1950.
Mrs. Doerfler was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, Elks Auxiliary and Agate Beach Ladies Golf Club, all in Newport; and was co-founder of the Newport High School Doerfler Scholarship Fund.
Survivors include her husband, Ken Sr. of Newport; daughters Susan Whitesell of Newport and Nancy Watts of Siletz; a son, Ken Jr. of Newport; four grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at the LDS Church in Newport. The family suggests donations to the charity of the donor's choice in lieu of flowers. Bateman Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
Henry "Jack" Boetger
Henry John "Jack" Boetger, 90, of Lincoln City died of congestive heart failure on Feb. 26, 1999.
He was born in Buffalo, Iowa on March 4, 1908 to Henry and Anna Boetger, and was the oldest of seven children. As a young man, he traveled and worked from Montana to Texas, then moved to Seattle, Wash. in 1936 to enter the logging industry. He served in the Army from 1934 to 1936 and in the Army Air Corps from 1942 to 1945, where he developed new ways of installing and operating aerial reconnaissance cameras and was part of the allied invasion forces in the Philippines and Japan.
He married the late Marjorie Gilmore Dodd in 1942. He and his family moved to Chehalis, Wash. in 1946, where he resumed logging. In 1947, the family moved to Gleneden Beach, and in 1952, to the south shore of Devils Lake, where Mr. Boetger lived for 43 years. In 1973, he retired to take up his hobbies of gardening and furniture refinishing. He also enjoyed rock hunting, fishing, hunting and helping found the Devil's Lake Yacht Club.
For 52 years, he was a member of St. James Episcopal Church in Lincoln City. He also belonged to the Eagles, Elks and Veterans of Foreign Wars.
Survivors include his daughter, Marjorie Curry of Newport; a son, George Dodd of Rochester Hills, Mich.; a brother, Fritz Boetger of Davenport, Iowa; a sister, Edna Dice of Rushville, Ind.; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. March 13 at St. James Episcopal Church, 2490 NE Highway 101 in Lincoln City. Friends and family are welcome to a reception at the church following the service. Memorial contributions may be made to Lincoln City Hospice. Bateman Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
