Lloyd McLeod
Lloyd Douglas McLeod, 78, of Lincoln City died Jan. 29, 1999.
He was born in Leslieville, Alberta, Canada on Nov. 15, 1920 to Sterling and Maude (Richardson) McLeod. He moved to Oregon from Leslieville at the age of 4.
He was a self-employed log truck driver in the Coast Range most of his adult life.
He married Betty J. McBurney on April 9, 1944 in Gaston. He served in the United States Army during World War II. He enjoyed camping, fishing, gardening and spending time with his grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife, Betty McLeod of Lincoln City; sons and daughters-in-law Douglas and Christine McLeod of Sandy, and Larry and Carmelita of Roseburg; a daughter and son-in-law, Cathy and Carl Reeves; brothers George McLeod of Yamhill, Ron McLeod of Tillamook, and Bill McLeod of McMinnville; a sister, O'Calla Bjernerud of Coos Bay; seven grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Tuesday at Pacific View Memorial Chapel with Reverend Wes Carlisle officiating. Visitation will be held one hour before service time. Memorial contributions have been suggested to the Bayside Chapel Kids Club, PO Box 116, Depoe Bay 97341. Pacific View Memorial Chapel is serving the family.
Nathan Swan
Nathan Evan Swan, 85, of Aloha died in McMinnville on Jan. 17, 1999.
He was born in Denver, Colo. on June 27 1913 to Elizabeth Swan. He was raised and schooled in Denver, then lived in various placed on the West Coast. He moved to Oregon in the early 1940s, and worked on the railroad during the war. In 1953, he started working for the state employment office and retired in The Dalles' office in 1978.
He enjoyed fishing, literature, music and traveling to Reno, Nev. He learned to build silver and gold mountings for jewelry.
He was a member of the Shriners, Kiwanis, Society of General Semantics and Toastmasters International.
Survivors include his daughter, Ruth Swan-Davis of Yachats; a son, David Swan of Hillsboro; a step-daughter, Lulabelle Still of Grants Pass; a step-son, Hershel Young of Aloha; 11 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Lena, in 1992; a daughter, Delores; and a sister.
Memorial services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday at Chapel of Macy and Son, 135 North Evans, McMinnville. Contributions are suggested to Yamhill County Hospice, c/o Macy and Son Funeral Directors, 135 North Evans, McMinnville 97128; or Nathan Swan Memorial, c/o Yachats Community Presbyterian Church Fund.
Edna "Pinkey" Cantrell
Edna Jean "Pinkey" Cantrell, 76, of Alsea died at her home on Feb. 3, 1999.
She was born in Paonia, Colo. on May 20, 1922 to Edwin F. and Blanche Osborne Moon. She had been a resident of Alsea since 1940.
She married Thomas Cantrell in Vancouver, Wash. on Nov. 5, 1952. He preceded her in death in 1983. For most of her life, she was a homemaker.
Survivors include her sons, Steve and Thomas Cantrell; a daughter, Julie Cantrell, all of Alsea; sisters Lena Hockema of Alsea and Norma Stitt of Waldport; eight grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Private family services will be held. The family suggests donations to the Alsea Rural Health Clinic or to Hospice. Bateman Funeral Home is in charge of the services.
Annette Witt-Swanson
Annette F. Witt-Swanson, 35, of Boring died at her home on Feb. 3, 1999.
She was born in Palm Springs, Calif. on Sept. 11, 1963 to Nelsen and Claudia Witt. Her family moved to Oregon City when she was in fifth grade, and she lived there until four years ago, when she moved to Rosemond and Mojave, Calif. She moved back to Oregon in August of 1998. She was a waitress.
Survivors include her daughter, Sara J. Swanson of Boring; a son, Michael S. Swanson of Boring; her father and step-mother, Nelsen and Sandra Witt of Waldport; her mother and step-father, Claudia and Gary Brayton of Boring; a grandmother, Middy Lewis of Oregon City; brothers Michael Witt of Oregon City, Chad Brayton of Spokane, Wash., and Ron Swaney of Waldport; sisters LeAlyce Miller of Columbus, Miss. and Leslie Adams of Oregon City; her fiancee, Jerry Hardiman of Mojave, Calif.; and numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.
Memorial services were held Saturday at Bateman Carroll Funeral Chapel in Gresham, which is in charge of arrangements and cremation. The family suggests memorial contributions to the Annette Swanson Memorial Fund, care of IBEW Federal Credit Union, PO Box 16877, Portland 97292-0877.
June McBee
June Elizabeth McBee, 83, of Seal Rock died at Pacific Communities Hospital in Newport on Feb. 4, 1999.
She was born in Chicago Heights, Ill. on June 26, 1915 to Paul and Ruth Tietz Kappmeyer.
She had been a resident of Seal Rock for the past 10 years. Her husband, Harold McBee, preceded her in death in 1970.
Survivors include her daughter, Colleen Bertleson of Seal Rock; three grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
At the decedent's request, no services are planned. Disposition is by cremation, with Bateman Funeral Home in charge of the arrangements.
Georgette Litke
Georgette Becky Litke, 77, of Newport, died Jan. 24, 1999 at Pacific Communities Hospital in Newport.
She was born Dec. 26, 1921 in Butte, Mont. She married Samuel W. "Woody" Litke in Methow, Wash. on June 20, 1941;, he preceded her in death in 1980.
For most of her life, she was a homemaker. She had been a volunteer with the Central Coast Humane Society for 18 years.
She is survived by her daughter, Penni Zeigler of Salome, Ariz.; 10 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
At the decedent's request, no services took place. Inurnment was in Bateman's Chelan Abbey mausoleum.
Arrangements are with Bateman Funeral Home.
Cari Marie Shepard
Cari Marie Shepard, 38, of Tidewater, died Feb. 6, 1999 at Pacific Communities Hospital in Newport.
She was born on Sept. 16, 1960 at Hillsboro to Gary Maynard and Emma Lee Blackburn Berg. She graduated from Bend High School in 1978. She married David A. Shepard on May 14, 1983 in Portland. They moved to Tidewater in 1992.
She worked as a waitress at the Kozy Kove Cafe in Tidewater, and at the Moose Lodge and the Galley Ho!, both in Waldport. She also cleaned businesses and houses in the Waldport area.
Survivors include her husband, David, of Tidewater; a son, Tyler, and a daughter, Kaci Shepard, both of Tidewater; her mother and stepfather, Emma Lee and Peter DeRosa of Sierra Vista, Ariz.;her father, Gary Berg, of Bend; brothers Steve Berg of Seattle, Wash. and Ken Berg of Bend; and grandmothers Bonnie Berg of Bend and Nina Blackburn of Sierra Vista, Ariz.
Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Moose Lodge, 250 John, Waldport.
Arrangements are under the direction of Bateman Funeral Home.
Amy Johnson
Amy P. Johnson, 89, of Eugene died of age-related causes on Feb. 7, 1999.
She was born Aug. 13, 1909. She moved to Newport in December 1989 and returned to Eugene in February of 1997 for health-related reasons.
Survivors include her sons, Nolon Bell of Veneta and Gordon Bell of Junction City; daughters Eathel Hanson of Veneta and Sharon Bell of Toledo; a sister, Liz Pierce of Malvern, Ark.; 19 grandchildren; 38 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband.
Services will be held at 2 p.m. today (Friday) at Lane Memorial Gardens, 5300 West 11th Ave. in Eugene.
