Marian M. Tribbett
Marian Morene Tribbett died March 7, 2002, at a Newberg care facility. She was 86.
She was born Dec. 6, 1915, in Cope, Colorado to Charles and Maurine (Greene) Gearheart. She grew up and attended school in Cope and then moved to Yuma, Colo., where she finished high school. On Oct. 14, 1934, she married
Nelson "Nels" Tribbett in Denver, Colo., where they made their home. They lived there for a couple of years before moving back to Yuma. In 1939, they moved to Newberg where she worked at the Fred Herring, Sr. Nut Processing Plant. In the mid 1940s, she was employed as a secretary by the St. Paul Truck Line where she worked for several years. She then owned and operated the Cameo Beauty Shop until she retired in the early 1960s. She enjoyed bowling, yard work and always had time to chat with the neighbors.
Survivors include: son Howard of Newberg; brother Larry of Milwaukie; two grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by husband Nels in October of 1989.
A graveside service with interment will begin at 2 p.m. Monday in Valley View Memorial Park in Newberg with Pastor Jane Shaffer officiating.

Patrick A. Hughes
Patrick A. Hughes died Feb. 28, 2002, at a Portland medical center. He was 52.
He was born Aug. 19, 1949, in Van Nuys, Calif., to Ira and Delphia (Cobb) Hughes. He grew up and received his education in California. In his late-20s he moved to Portland. In April 1977, he married
Betsy Semler in Reno. He worked as a truck driver for Albina Fuel for more than 20 years. He enjoyed fishing and was an avid sports fan of both baseball and football.
Survivors include: wife Betsy of Newberg; daughter Sarah Yanke of Oak Harbor, Wash.; mother Delphia Shultz of Portland; brother Charles of Milwaukie and sister Betty Wood of Simi Valley, Calif.
His memorial service was held Tuesday in Attrells Newberg Chapel with Pastor Bruce Sloan officiating. Private interment was at Valley View Memorial Park in Newberg.
Martin A. Barstad
Martin Albert Barstad died Feb. 28, 2002, at his home. He was 81.
He was born Nov. 10, 1920, in Woodburn, to Albert and Clara Kittleson Barstad. He attended Belle Passi Grade School in Woodburn and graduated from Woodburn High School. He attended Willamette University in Salem where he was co-captain of the football team. Martin and his team played Hawaii on Dec. 6, 1941, the day before the attack on Pearl Harbor. After the attack he was drafted into the U.S. Army to defend the islands for a short period of time and then returned home and continued his education at Willamette University.
On June 26, 1942, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served during World War II until his honorable discharge in January 1946. During his enlistment he met and married
Elizabeth Swonder on Dec. 23, 1943, in San Diego. Upon his return to Oregon after the war, he continued his education, graduating from Willamette University Law School in 1949. After graduation he began his career as a claims manager, where he used his legal training while working for several insurance companies, retiring in 1983.
Survivors include: daughters, Marsha Lancaster and Patricia Slater of Beaverton; sisters, Mabel Phillips, Alice Cavin and Alpha Nelson, all of Woodburn; six grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife Elizabeth in August 1994, four brothers and one sister.
Chapel and viewing visitation hours are 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Thursday and Friday at Attrells Sherwood Chapel.
A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday in Attrells Sherwood Chapel with Pastor Vern Sandersfeld officiating. Committal is private at Belle Passi cemetery in Woodburn.

Russell "Buzz" F. Gable
Russell "Buzz" F. Gable died Feb. 28, 2002, in Tillamook. He was 83.
He was born May 30, 1918, in Newberg to Floyd and Cora Belle (Hubbard) Gable. He attended school in Newberg. During World War II he served on the USS Idaho as a gunners mate. After receiving an honorable discharge, he returned home in 1945 and later married
Violet Heine. He worked a few years at the Cornelius Lumber Mill and then moved to Tillamook where he worked for Diamond Lumber Mill until his retirement.
He was a member and past officer of the Tillamook Moose Lodge. Family members said he was well known for his title as the "bird house man" in Bay City where he gave away hundreds of bird houses giving them to anyone he met. Others said they would remember the daffodils he grew at his home that everyone could see and enjoy as they traveled down Highway 101 in the spring.
Survivors include sisters, Eva Lucas and Doris Heintz of Myrtle Point and Zella Harris of Boise.
Burial was held Friday at Dundee Pioneer cemetery.
Ralph N. Nuciforo
Ralph Nicholas Nuciforo of Newberg died Feb. 27, 2002. He was 70.
He was born Dec. 6, 1931, in Altoona, Penn., to Larry and Anna (Picanzo) Nuciforo. He was raised and educated in Pennsylvania. In 1943, his family moved to California where he also attended school. He worked as a painter for four or five years. In the early 1950s, he joined the Navy for four years. He returned to Alhambra, Calif., where he started a restaurant where he met his wife. He married
Shirley Gillham on Nov. 3, 1956, in Yuma, Ariz. He farmed, raised horses and built three horse ranches while in California. He moved to Newberg in 1992.
He enjoyed fishing, cooking and horses. He was president of the Lions in California and a lifelong member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars.
Survivors include: wife Shirley of Newberg; daughters, Kathie Beale of Temecula, Calif., and Jinnie Nuciforo of Newberg; son Nick of Anza, Calif.; sisters, Julie Baldwin of Mesa, Ariz., Rose Davis and Jane Molinari of Sun City, Calif.; brothers, James of Camarillo, Calif., and Joe of Mesa; four grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two sisters and one brother.
A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday at the Chapel of Macy and Son in McMinnville.

Martha H. Davis
Martha H. Davis died of cancer Feb. 22, 2002, at her daughters home in Sheridan. She was 84.
She was born May 23, 1917, in Union City, Okla., to Fred and Grace (Gore) Wright. She grew up and went to school in Oklahoma where she graduated from Ponca City High School. In 1936, she married
Mac Bowen and they made their home in Oklahoma. They lived in Kansas for a time and then in 1945 moved to Oregon. They lived in Dayton then later moved to Willamina until 1971, when she moved to Dallas.
She was a member of the Christian Memorial Alliance Church. In June 1978, she married
Elvin Davis and the couple made their home in Newberg. They were members of the Newberg Free Methodist Church.
Survivors include: sons, Gerland and Robert, both of Soldtna, Alaska; daughters, Karen Corbett of Yuma, Ariz., Barbara Fry of Ridgefield, Wash., Patricia Coblentz of Sheridan and Donna Commons of Scio; stepchildren, Betty Harris of Eugene, Elva Mae Edmunson and David Davis of Dallas and Sylvia Key of Ariz.; sister Ruth Oney of Las Vegas; 10 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by husband, Mac, in 1956, husband Elvin in 1997, four sisters, three brothers and one grandson.
A funeral service was held Friday at Newberg Free Methodist Church with Pastor Shaun McNay officiating. Concluding service with crypt interment followed at Valley View Memorial Park in Newberg.

Ronald Brown
Ronald Brown of Newberg died of multiple sclerosis June 7, 2002. He was 51.
He was born June 23, 1950, in Newberg to Harry and Lucille (Day) Brown. He grew up in Newberg, where he attended Edwards Grade School, Renne Middle School and graduated from Newberg High School in 1969.
He worked for City Tire Company in Newberg and Marco and Goodyear in Portland. In 1968, he went on disability because of multiple sclerosis. He enjoyed motorcycles and sprint car racing.
Survivors include: mother Lucille Brown of Newberg; sister Judy Friesz of Sherwood; stepsister Sheryl Mitchell; one niece and one nephew and several aunts and uncles.
A funeral service was held Monday at Attrells Newberg Chapel with Pastor Lee Shafer officiating. Committal followed at Newberg Friends cemetery.

Donna Z. Mourer
Donna Zoe (Matherly) Mourer of Newberg died June 9, 2002. She was 73.
She was born Oct. 18, 1928, in Newberg to Halick and Lottie Matherly. She was a lifelong Newberg resident and was a waitress at area restaurants and a housewife.
She enjoyed crafts, sewing, gardening (especially her flowers) and spending time with her grandchildren.
Survivors include: daughter Jacqueline Mourer of Woodburn; sisters, Vivian Beck of Newberg and Nancy Hawkins of Bend; eight grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her mother Lottie and father Halick; sister Mickie Caldwell; daughter Diane Lewis and brother, William, in 2002.
Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Hubbard Christian Center in Hubbard.

Lorrin M. White
Lorrin M. White died May 30, 2002, at home in Newberg. He was 78.
He was born Sept. 17, 1923, in St. Anthony, Idaho, to Joseph and Mae (Chandler) White; he was the youngest of 10 children. He attended school at West Yellowstone Park where his dad built the first store and cabin camp; he graduated from high school in St. Anthony. He was a lifelong member of the Latter-day Saints church. In 1942, he married
his high school sweetheart, Verla Taylor, before leaving for the service.
He served in the 150th combat engineers as a machine gunner and supply sergeant. He landed at Normandy on D-Day and also saw service in England, Belgium, Germany and Holland. He was wounded by a land mine just before he was to return home to his wife and young son. He spent many months in the hospital and was discharged from De Witt General Hospital on crutches with a Purple Heart and the European Theater Ribbon with five bronze battle stars.
A few years after his return, he started his own insurance agency, specializing in life and health. After his wife Verla died, he married
Susan Schroeder on Feb. 14, 1981.
Survivors include: five children from both families, 21 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren. He was also preceded in death by his oldest son, Jerry.
A funeral service was held Wednesday in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Newberg with Pastor Gene Platt officiating. Interment was held in Willamette National cemetery in Portland.

Grace I. Francis
Grace Inez Francis of Newberg died at home June 4, 2002. She was 94.
She was born Dec. 10, 1907, in Springbrook to Grant and Blanche (Kincaid) Heater. She grew up and received her education at Springbrook Grade School and, later, Newberg High School. In 1926, she became the musician, organ and piano player at the Francis Theater in Newberg prior to her marriage to Ted Francis on Jan. 23, 1927. The couple owned and operated the Cameo Theater, Francis Theater and the Highway 99 Drive-in in Newberg and the Mac Theater and the drive-in in McMinnville.
According to family members, she played for quite awhile after her marriage but the talkies were coming and her days as an accompanist at the theater were numbered.
She was preceded in death by husband Ted in June 1999. According to her family she was a talented musician and played for more than 220 local weddings, with dance bands and at many local events, becoming known at Mrs. Piano.
Survivors include: son Robert of Newberg; five grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by son, Stewart, four brothers and two sisters.

Max W. Branson
Max W. Branson of Glendale, Ariz., died at home May 27, 2002. He was 74.
He was born May 11, 1928, in Delores, Colo., to Millard and Agnes (Crapo) Branson. He was a graduate of Snowflake High School in Arizona.
In 1947, he married
Rayola in McNary, Ariz. In 2001, they were married
in the Portland temple of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
He was a self-employed logger before becoming a paper mill superintendent in Snowflake and then Newberg. He made and kept homes for his family in both Arizona and California. In 1990 he retired.
He enjoyed all sports, never missing a game of his own children during their high school and college years. He also enjoyed camping, hunting, fishing and woodworking. He particularly enjoyed RV-ing and traveling with his wife and taking his children and grandchildren on special trips.
Survivors include: wife Rayola of Arizona; sons, Terry of Glendale, Ariz., and Ron of Newberg; daughters, Barbara Stock and Carla Hopp, both of Newberg; sisters, Edna Ramsey and Betty Mills of Snowflake and Audrey Rath of Phoenix, Ariz.; 15 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by parents, Millard and Agnes Branson.
Services were held Friday in the Snowflake Latter-day Saints Main Street chapel in Snowflake.
