Allan R. Lord
Allan Robert Lord of Newberg died Sept, 8, 2007. He was 83.
He was born May 13, 1924, in St. Johns to George and Sylvia (Reeves) Lord. He graduated from Benson High School in 1943. He served in the U.S. Army's 10th Mountain Division from 1943 to 1945, and was recognized for his service by the Northwest Indian Veterans Association.
He married Ardith Wise on April 3, 1979. He worked for the Port of Portland as a dock attendant for 30 years.
He enjoyed model trains and antique cars and was a member of four car clubs, winning numerous trophies.
Survivors include: wife Ardith of Newberg; stepsons, Ken and Andy Wise, both of Newberg, and Steve Wise of Tigard; stepdaughter Julie Null of Portland; brother Donald of Mulino; two grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Sept. 23 at Astor House. A private family service was held Sept. 12. Committal was in Willamette National cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Salvation Army in care of Attrell's Newberg Funeral Chapel, 207 Villa Road, Newberg OR 97132.

Mildred C. Luyet
Mildred Clay Luyet of Newberg died Aug. 31, 2007. She was 86.
She was born March 29, 1921, in Marlow, Okla., to Amos and Bonnie (Adams) McMaster. She attended school in Duncan, Okla. In 1952, she settled in McMinnville, returning to Oklahoma in 1981 before returning to the Northwest in 1983, living in Salem briefly and settling in Newberg in 1987.
She was married twice, to Floyd Clay and Ray Luyet. Both husbands preceded her in death.
Survivors include: son Ernest Clay of Salem; daughter Linda McMillan of McMinnville; brother L.A. McMaster of Duncan, Okla.; nine grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
A memorial service was held Sept. 6, 2007, at Evergreen Memorial Park in McMinnville with Pastor Jim Peterson officiating.

Kenneth H. Larsen
Kenneth Howard Larsen of Gaston died Sept. 1, 2007. He was 74.
He was born May 23, 1933, in Waukesha, Wis., to Evelyn and Neal Larsen. He served in the U.S. Navy as a Seabee or combat engineer.
Upon leaving the service he obtained his pilot's license while attending South Dakota State University, where he earned a bachelor's degree in biology. He settled in Gaston in 1963, moving to Dundee earlier this year.
He pursued a 27-year career with the U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service, which included research, refuge management and flying. He was also a lifetime member of the National Association of Retired Federal Employees.
He enjoyed gardening, being outdoors, building and travel.
Survivors include: wife Phyllis of Gaston; son Bradley Larsen of Orlando, Fla.; daughters, Kimberly Wood of Shalimar, Fla., and Rebecca Beemer of Bainbridge Island, Wash.; and seven grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. today (Saturday) at Zion Lutheran Church in Newberg.
Memorial contributions can be made to the American Leukemia and Lymphoma Society in care of Attrell's Newberg Funeral Chapel, 207 Villa Road, Newberg OR 97132.

Robert Wong
Robert Soo Yuen Wong, formerly of Newberg, died Aug. 26, 2007, in Milwaukie. He was 91.
He was born Wong Soo Yuen in Canton province, China, and immigrated to the United States at age 12, making his home in Portland.
He served in the U.S. Navy Seabees during World War II, stationed aboard the USS Vixen from 1942-45. Following his service in the Navy, he returned to Portland.
In 1948, he married Marilyn Mae. She preceded him in death in 2005.
He owned and operated a restaurant in Portland before moving to Newberg in 1968, where he owned and operated Darby's Restaurant until his retirement in the 1980s.
He was also preceded in death by a son, Steven, and a daughter, Geraldine Sheely.
Survivors include: sons Edwin and Gary; daughter Shari; brothers Lee and Henry; sisters May Oka, Lillian Okazaki, Dorothy Leung and Violet Yee; four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at noon Sept. 6 at Lincoln Memorial Funeral Home in Mt. Scott. Memorial contributions may be made to Rivers of Peace Church, PO Box 415, Forest Grove, OR 97116.

Carolyn J. Gaylord
Carolyn Jean Gaylord of Newberg died Aug. 24, 2007. She was 76.
She was born Nov. 6, 1930, in Carlton to Errol and Velma (Fouts) Bryan. She attended Cleveland High School in Portland.
She married Larry Meier, raising six children with him before divorcing. She later remarried Frayne 'Bud' Gaylord, living in Forest Grove, Beaverton and Yamhill before moving to a Newberg care home.
She enjoyed visits to the beach, and her ashes were scattered there at her request.
Survivors include: ex-husband Larry Meier of Prineville; sons Scott Meier of Bakersfield, Calif., David Meier of Forest Grove, Mark Meier of Hillsboro, Jeff Meier of McMinnville and Larry Meier of Yamhill; daughter Michelle Holman of Portland; 14 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband Bud in 1992.
No memorial services are scheduled. Memorial contributions may be made to the Make-A-Wish Foundation in care of Macy and Son Funeral Directors, 135 N. Evans St., McMinnville, OR 97128.

Patricia A. Bilodeau
Patricia Ann Bilodeau, formerly of McMinnville, died Aug. 26, 2007, in Portland. She was 72.
She was born Oct. 23, 1934, in LaCrosse, Wis., to Quentin and Alma Zinsmaster. She grew up in LaCrosse. In 1953, she married Francis Bilodeau and settled in McMinnville after visiting the area on honeymoon.
She earned a registered nurse's degree from Chemeketa Community College in 1972 and worked as a nurse in Newberg and McMinnville hospitals and for the Yamhill County Health Department.
In 1987, she and her husband moved to Newport, buying property near Yaquina Head. She worked as a nurse with the Lincoln County Health Department, retiring in 1992, after which she and her husband spent winters in Yuma, Ariz.
Survivors include: husband Francis; sons, Lawrence and Joe, both of Newport, and Bruce of Dayton; daughters, Anne Schmidt of Tigard and Elizabeth Young of Grand Prairie, Texas; brother Quentin Zinsmaster of Bloomer, Wis.; nine grandchildren and one great-grandson.
She was preceded in death by her parents and two sisters.
A memorial service will be held at 9 a.m. today (Saturday) at St. James Catholic Church in McMinnville. Internment will take place at Eureka Pioneer cemetery in Newport.

Edna Cutsforth
Edna Cutsforth of Newberg died Aug. 27, 2007, at a local hospital. She was 67.
She was born June 2, 1940, in Greenbrier, Ark., to Bryan and L.D. (Jennings) Ogles. She moved to Newberg with her family in 1951.
She was married to Claude Maerz in 1956, divorcing in 1972. She later married Claude Gash and moved to Fresno, Calif., but later returned to Newberg and married Mr. Cutsforth until they divorced.
She attended St. Peter Catholic Church in Newberg and worked as an aide at Friendsview Manor and as an insurance agent in Tigard. She enjoyed traveling and the music of Elvis Presley.
Survivors include: sons, Timothy of Portland and Bryan of Bagdad, Ariz.; daughter Cynthia McClintick of Newberg; brother Jiles Ogles of Newberg; sister Docia Vagnerini of Madras; nine grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
A graveside service was held Aug. 29 in Valley View Memorial Park with Father Jim Nibler officiating.
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Diabetes Association or the Arthritis Foundation in care of Attrell's Newberg Funeral Chapel, 207 Villa Road, Newberg, Oregon 97132.

Salvatore Danna
Salvatore 'Sam' Danna of Sherwood died Aug. 27, 2007. He was 84.
He was born Sept. 9, 1922, in Portland. He attended Benson High School. He served four years in the U.S. Navy, after which he began a produce route serving northeast Portland, Scappose and St. Helens.
In 1948, he married Rose Marie Monaco. She preceded him in death in April.
He enjoyed spending time with his family and visiting the Oregon Coast, and was an avid outdoorsman.
Survivors include: son David of Rochester, Mich.; daughters, Christine Snodgrass of Lake Oswego and Joanne Santee of Tualatin; brother Joseph Danna; sister Josephine Piro; six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
A memorial rosary and funeral mass were held Friday at St. Francis Catholic Church in Sherwood.
Memorial contributions may be made to Parkinson's Resources of Oregon in care of Attrell's Sherwood Funeral Chapel, 16195 S.W. First St., Sherwood OR 97140.

Ruby J. Fryer
Ruby Jean Fryer of Newberg died Aug. 27, 2007. She was 79.
She was born Jan. 8, 1928, in Creston, Iowa, to O.J. and Viola (Morris) Garrick. She moved with her family to Newberg, where she attended grade and high school.
In 1949, she married Wayne Fryer in Seattle. They have lived in Dundee and Newberg for the past five years.
She was a homemaker and worked in Safeway stores. She also worked in real estate and owned and operated an antique store in Dundee.
She enjoyed bingo, trips to Spirit Mountain Casino, reading and spending time with her family.
Survivors include: husband Wayne of Newberg; sons, Chuck of Newberg and Mitch of Dundee; daughters Sue Schatz of Boise, Idah, o and Sherry Johnson; sisters, Betty Erb and Jessie Ellis, both of Newberg; nine grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
A funeral service was held Aug. 30 at Attrell's Newberg Funeral Chapel, with Pastor Frank Lednicky officiating.

Paul O. Miller
Paul Oscar Miller of Sherwood died Aug. 28, 2007. He was 85.
He was born Aug. 30, 1921, in Olean, Mo., to Jacob and Mable Miller. He moved to Oregon with his family in the 1930s, settling in the Metzger area.
He married June Wright in the late 1940s. The family lived in the Sheridan-Willamina area until 1963, when they moved to Sherwood. In 1968, he started a local excavation business, Miller and Sons Contractors, which he ran until his retirement in 2006.
He was preceded in death by his wife June in 1990. The following year, he married Janet Jenkins.
He was an elder in the Newberg congregation of Jehovah's Witnesses from 1970 until his death.
Survivors include: wife Janet of Sherwood; sons, Jay and Tom of Tualatin; daughters, Merlyne of Newberg and Patricia Berk of Phoenix, Ariz.; brothers, Earl of Portland and Ted of Milwaukie; sister Bonnie Miller-Choate of Vancouver; nine grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. today (Saturday) in the Newberg Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses. A private burial took place Friday at Gibbs cemetery.
