Vivian I. Triplett
Vivian Ida Triplett of Sunriver died of cancer on July 21, 2005, in Soft Shell, Ky. She was 69.
She was born Feb. 9, 1936, to Charles and Ida (Smith) Triplett in Soft Shell, Ky. She graduated from Sweet Home High School in 1954, then attended Northwest Christian College in Eugene. She graduated from Butler University in Indianapolis with a music degree. She earned her registered nurse degree from Mount Hood Community College.
She was a registered nurse with Providence Hospital in Portland from 1980 to 1987, with Calispell Regional Hospital in Montana from 1987 to 1996, and with Central Oregon Home Health in Bend from 1996 to 1999.
Her companion was Edith Parrish.
She enjoyed coffee, cooking, music, reading, flower gardening, yoga and her dogs.
Survivors include: companion Edith Parrish of Sunriver; mother Ida Triplett of Sweet Home; and sisters, Victoria Triplett of Bakersfield, Calif., Virginia Rosser of Eureka, Calif., and Jerrun Triplett of La Pine.
She was preceded in death by her father and brother.
A graveside service was held July 23 at the Fernwood Pioneer cemetery in Newberg.

Eric G. Montaner
Dundee resident Eric Gaspar Montaner died July 30, 2005, in Sherwood. He was 28.
He was born Aug. 2, 1976, to Gabriel and Sylvia (Ramirez) Montaner in Los Angeles. He attended Mazama High School in Klamath Falls and continued his education at Clackamas Community College. He managed the Dollar Tree in Beaverton.
He enjoyed playing guitar, soccer, basketball, baseball and football. He participated in many activities with his family and friends. His family said he was an optimist, a conversationalist and at peace with life.
Survivors include: parents Gabriel and Sylvia Montaner of Dundee; brothers David and Sammy of Dundee; sister Gabby Montaner of Dundee; grandparents, David Montaner of Chile, Elsa Cataldo of Chile and Socorro Payan of Mexico; uncle and aunt, Ed and Awilda Rosario of Newberg; uncles, Omar Astudillo of Los Angeles, Carlos Ramirez of Chicago, Gaspar Ramirez of El Paso, Texas, and Modesto Ramirez of Durango, Mexico; and aunts, Eva Ramirez of Southgate, Calif., Anna Ramirez of Las Vegas, and Marcela Montaner of Los Angeles.
He was preceded in death by grandfather Gaspar Ramirez.
A memorial service will be at 4 p.m. Saturday at First Baptist Church in Newberg with Pastor Brian Burman officiating. Committal is private at Newberg Friends cemetery.

Eunice Noyes
Eunice Noyes died July 29, 2005, at a Newberg care facility. She was 90.
She was born Aug. 20, 1914, to David and Helen (Saunders) Rhoades in Scranton, Iowa. She was raised in York, Neb. In 1935, she moved to Butteville and then to Newberg, where she has since resided. She married
Harold Noyes. For many years, she worked as a clerk at Coast to Coast, which is now Newberg Hardware Store.
She was a member of the United Methodist Church, Newberg Eastern Star, Newberg Amarenth, Newberg JC's Club and the Newberg IOOF. She was Newberg's Citizen of the Year, served on Champoeg Historical Pageant for two or three years and served on the Yamhill Historical Society for 10 years. Twice she served in all the chairs of Eastern Star and was also the assistant to the Grand Lodge Worth Matron. She was a Boy Scout den mother for her three sons, involved in Girl Scouts with her daughter, and was a member of the Parent-Teacher Association for 22 years.
Her husband preceded her in death in 1967.
Her family said she was a good mother and a great baker and cook. She enjoyed camping, crafts, sewing, cross-stitch, knitting and crocheting.
Survivors include: sons, Roger Noyes of Portland, Larry Noyes of Hillsboro and Allen Noyes of Newberg; daughter Janie Chase of McMinnville; nine grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Attrell's Newberg Funeral Chapel, 207 Villa Road, with Jason Harris officiating. Concluding Service will be at 11 a.m. Aug. 27 at Evergreen Memorial Park in McMinnville.

Eleanor H. Dorshimer
Former Newberg-area resident Eleanor H. Dorshimer died July 24, 2005, at her home in Prineville. She was 90.
She was born Feb. 23, 1915, to Russel and Cecilia (Peterson) Johnson in Hartford, Conn. She married
Gladdin Roy 'G.R.' Dorshimer on Sept. 5, 1936, in Alexandria, Va. They moved to southern California in 1952. She worked for the Los Angeles Unified School District for eight years and retired in 1975. They moved to the Newberg and Colton area in 1989 and to Prineville in 1999.
She enjoyed being with her grandchildren, the outdoors, watching wildlife, her garden, knitting and crocheting.
She was preceded in death by her parents; brother Herb; son Ronald; and one granddaughter.
Survivors include: husband, G.R.; sons, G.R. Jr. of Prineville and Kirby of Newberg; 15 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren.
At her request there will be no public funeral.
Don Siler
Don Siler died July 26, 2005, at a Newberg care facility. He was 79.
He grew up and attended school at Mt. Vernon and Prophtstown, Ill. At 16 he moved with his mother to Oregon. He entered the Marines in March 1944 and fought in World War II. He was seriously wounded at Iwo Jima and moved to Astoria Hospital to heal. He was honorably discharged at the rank of corporal. He carried shrapnel in his body all his life.
He finished high school and attended Van Port College, now Portland State University. He worked for Montgomery Ward for a time and held several other jobs before beginning work at Gilmore Steel Corporation in Portland as a steel worker. He retired in 1983.
On Nov. 19, 1977, he married
Wanda Doran in Bakersfield, Calif. They made their home in the Portland area. They moved to a farm in the Sherwood and Newberg area, where he raised Barbados sheep. He enjoyed living in the country, but moved to Newberg because of failing health.
He enjoyed wildlife and being with his family. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW).
Survivors include: wife Wanda of Newberg; sons, Gary Hatley of LaCrescento, Calif., Burton Walker of Bakersfield, Calif., Michael Pellow of Gladstone, Larry Siler of Newberg and David Siler of Tillamook; daughters, Bonnie Fontana of Findlay, Ohio, Terria Hall of Yamhill and Mary Siler of Sherwood; 14 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be at 1 p.m. today (Saturday) at Attrell's Newberg Funeral Chapel, 207 Villa Road.
Elmer C. Lewis
Elmer Chester Lewis died of aortic stenosis on July 27, 2005, at the Friendsview Retirement Community. He was 86.
He was born Aug. 8, 1918, to Robert and Shirley (Jones) Lewis in Toledo, Kan. He graduated from Barclay College in Haviland, Kan. He married
Vida Lewis on June 1, 1944. He owned an egg business in the 1950s in Sherwood. He worked as maintenance at George Fox University in the 1960s. He later became a bus driver. He retired at 80.
Survivors include: Del and Lori Lewis of Sumner, Wash., and Gary and Patti Lewis of College Place, Wash.
He was preceded in death by wife Vida in November 2002 and brother Dale in 1990.
A service will be held on Aug. 13 at Sherwood Friends Church.
Robert W. Knauss
Sherwood resident Robert W. Knauss, who has family in Newberg, died July 17, 2005. He was 49.
He was born Jan. 17, 1956, to Dick and Doris Knauss in Portland. He lived in the Tigard and Sherwood areas all of his life. He worked as a business manager, primarily for Wilsonville Chevrolet. He married
Debbie Haslam in 1988.
He enjoyed go-karting, collecting guns, running and Jet Skis.
Survivors include: wife Debbie; son Robby; daughter Karly; brother Tom and sister Nancy Knauss.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Doris.
A funeral service was held July 22 at the Sherwood Chapel of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
Glenn M. Young
Glenn Monroe Young died July 21, 2005, at his home in Newberg. He was 69.
He was born Sept. 1, 1935, to Elmer and Lillian (Rudnick) Young in Clearfield, Pa. He grew up and graduated from high school in Clearfield. In March 1954 he enlisted in the Army and served as a mechanic in the Air Corps until March 1957, when he was honorably discharged.
He drove city busses in Newark, N.J. On Nov. 22, 1975, he married
Valentina Kalmbach in Long Island, New York. They made their home on Long Island, N.Y. After retirement in 1978, he and his wife moved to Newberg, where they were living at the time of his death.
He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars. He and his wife were avid fisherman.
Survivors include: wife Valentina of Newberg; daughter Natalie Watson of Dundee; sister Evelyn Young of Pennsylvania and one granddaughter.
Services are pending in New York.
Clayton E. Owen
Newberg resident Clayton Eugene Owen died Aug. 22, 2005, in Newberg. He was 83.
He was born March 17, 1922, to Henry and Betty (Churchman) Owen in Hastings, Okla. He served in the Air Force for 23 years. He served in World War II, the Korean War and Vietnam. After retiring, he became a police officer at the Lawrence Livermore Laboratory in Berkeley, Calif., a job he worked for 12 years.
He and his wife moved to Newberg, where they have lived the past 20 years.
He enjoyed restoring antique tools and hunting for bargains at garage sales. He also enjoyed yard work and gardening, as well as fishing for salmon on the Oregon coast.
Survivors include: wife Vivian of Newberg; sons, Gary of Newberg and Michael of Seattle; sisters, Laverne Smith of Hastings and Peggy McMurtry of El Cajon, Calif.; granddaughter Christina Sink of Indianapolis, Ind., and great-grandson Carter Sink of Indianapolis.
Military graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Sept. 9 at Willamette National cemetery.
Robert J. Newbrough
Robert J. Newbrough of Newberg died Aug. 22, 2005, at Providence Newberg Hospital. He was 72.
He was born April 12, 1933, to Chester and Irine (Thompson) Newbrough in Labelle, Mo. He graduated high school in Shelbina, Mo. In 1953, he entered the Army and was honorably discharged in 1955. He lived in San Diego, Hayward and Stockton, Calif., as well as in Seattle. He worked at Rorer Aircraft and McDonald-Douglas in Southern California, and for John Hancock Insurance in Seattle. On Oct. 12, 1996, he married
Dorothy 'Dot' Puthoff. The couple settled in Newberg in 2001.
His family said he was an avid golfer. He enjoyed playing baseball and softball.
Survivors include: wife Dorothy of Newberg; sons, Rod Sr. of Beaverton and Alan of Anchorage, Alaska; four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
A private family service will be held with interment at Willamette National cemetery in Portland.

Donald H. Gross
Donald Harry Gross died Sept. 22, 2005, at his home in Newberg. He was 76.
He was born March 23, 1929, to Ira and Audrey (Howe) Gross in Casey, Ill. On May 1, 1947, he enlisted in the Navy and served for more than 20 years, receiving the National Defense service medal and the Vietnam service medal. He married
Roberta Milne on March 1, 1957, in Reno. He worked as a field supervisor for Liquid Air for more than 20 years. His wife preceded him in death in November 1996.
He enjoyed shooting at a local gun club.
Survivors include: daughters, Darlene Pete of Las Vegas, Donnell Brush of Long Creek, and Ruth Gross and Robin Faulke, both of Newberg; sons, Ira of Metlakatla, Alaska, Wayne of Las Vegas, Lloyd Gross of McMinnville, and Donald Jr. and Marshall, both of Newberg; brothers, Pete of Hillsborough, N.C., and Jerry and Lester, both of Casey, Ill.; sisters, Norma Hardy of Jefferson, Texas, Kay Monroe of Illinois, and Gwendolyn Schmidt and Martha Gross, both of Casey; 17 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by brother Wallace.
A funeral service was held Sept. 26 at Attrell's Newberg Funeral Chapel with Pastor Steve Thatcher officiating. Committal was at Valley View Memorial Park Mausoleum in Newberg.
