Pauline E. McGrew
Newberg resident Pauline Ellen McGrew died Aug. 19, 2005, at Providence Newberg Hospital. She was 89.
She was born Nov. 29, 1915, to John and Alice (Garrells) Browne in Harrison, Idaho. She moved with her family to Newberg in 1926 and graduated from Newberg High School in 1933. She married
James McGrew on Aug. 7, 1943, in Hattiesburg, Miss. They lived in various places, including Germany, while her husband was in the military.
She returned to Newberg in July 1950 when her husband was sent to Korea. He became a prisoner of war and died in April 1951 in a prison camp in Korea. She remained in Newberg to raise her three daughters.
She was a member of the First United Methodist Church, a volunteer for the Newberg Charitable Organization, a member of the local Veterans of Foreign War (VFW) and volunteered at the Newberg Public Library. She enjoyed volunteering in the community.
Survivors include: daughters, Mary Knepper of Portland, Kathleen Lilydale of Australia and Jeanne Brown of Milwaukie; sister Eileen Smith of Tigard; six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at First United Methodist Church in Newberg with Pastor Jane Shaffer officiating. Interment will be private at Willamette National cemetery in Portland.

Clinton R. Grayson
Clinton Ray Grayson, whose parents live in Newberg and who was himself in the process of moving here, died Aug. 14, 2005, in a car accident in Seaside. He was 18.
He was born Oct. 10, 1986, to Tim and Tamara (Newman) Grayson in Hillsboro. He lived in Forest Grove and graduated from Forest Grove High School in 2005. He enjoyed drama and his family said he planned on pursuing that as a career. After graduation, he took a job at Fred Meyer in Hillsboro. He recently requested a transfer to the Fred Meyer in Newberg, where his parents had moved.
He was active in a church youth group and enjoyed playing guitar.
Survivors include: parents Tim and Tamara of Newberg; brother Timothy Jr. of Hillsboro; twin brother Tyson Grayson of Forest Grove; sister Melody Grayson of Hillsboro; grandmother Ora Mary Grayson of West Port and other relatives.
A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. today (Saturday) at Sherwood Community Friends Church, 950 S. Sherwood Blvd. Interment will follow in the Friends cemetery in Newberg.

Mary E. Haggard
Mary Ellen Haggard died Aug. 8, 2005, at her home in Newberg. She was 55.
She was born Nov. 28, 1949, to Franklin and Mary (Adams) Kincheloe in Ontario. At age 3, she moved to Newberg with her family. She graduated in 1968 from Newberg High School. On Aug. 6, 1977, she married
Terry Haggard in Tigard. She worked for Deluxe Check Printing Company for 15 years. After the company moved from the Portland area, she became a homemaker.
She enjoyed reading, crossword puzzles, crochet, sewing and arts and crafts. She also enjoyed spending time with family.
Survivors include: husband Terry of Newberg; daughters, Darci Goodrich and Damaris Blohm, both of Newberg; parents Frank and Betty Kincheloe of Kelso, Wash.; sisters, Debbie Lindquist of Winlock, Wash., Sue James of Newberg and Peggy Waite of McMinnville, and four grandchildren.
A memorial service was held Aug. 12 at Newberg Christian Church with Pastor David Case officiating. Concluding services followed at Valley View Memorial Park in Newberg.

Lucas C. Russell
Newberg resident Lucas Cole Russell died Aug. 7, 2005, in a car accident in McMinnville. He was 19.
He was born March 16, 1986, to Charles and Susan Russell Salzbrenner in Hillsboro. He was raised and educated in Newberg, graduating in 2004 from Newberg High School, where he played varsity tennis. He helped build a church two years ago in Mexico. He was working as a cashier at the Arco Service Station in Dundee.
He enjoyed snowboarding, baseball, basketball, wake boarding and animals. The family said he was an independent person who loved his family, and whom his friends could depend on.
Survivors include: father Charles of Newberg; mother Susan of Newberg; grandfather Pard of McMinnville and sister Jade Morgan of Newberg.
Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. today (Wednesday) and Thursday at the chapel of Macy and Son Funeral Directors, 135 N. Evans St., McMinnville. A funeral service will be held at 1:30 p.m. Friday at the chapel with Pastor Jim Peterson officiating.
Connie Larson
Newberg native Connie Larson died Aug. 2, 2005, at her home in Newberg. She was 89.
She was born July 24, 1916, to Russell and Eula (Hodson) Lewis in Newberg, where she grew up, graduating from Newberg High School in 1934. After attending Pacific College (now George Fox University) for one year, she attended Friends University in Wichita, Kan., for three years. After graduation in 1939, she began her teaching career in Manter, Kan. She returned to Oregon, where she taught at Cloverdale and then one year in Corvallis.
On July 8, 1945, she married
Harold Larson in Newberg. The couple farmed in the Springbrook area. In 1959, she returned to school, earning a elementary teaching certificate, and started teaching again at West Union School in the Hillsboro School District. She retired in 1978. In 1985, she and her husband moved to the Friendsview Retirement Community in Newberg. Her husband preceded her in death in June 1993.
She was a supporter of World Gospel Mission and the Newberg Friends Church. She enjoyed traveling, reading, music and played classical piano. She taught Sunday school and helped with child development programs.
Survivors include: son Dwight Larson of Newberg; daughter Marian Schulz of Seaside; sisters, Irene Sieloff of Florida and Marjorie Simmons of Eugene; four grandchildren; three great-grandchildren and 11 nieces and nephews
She was preceded in death by brothers Walter and Claude Lewis.
A memorial service was held Aug. 9 at Newberg Friends Church with Pastor Gregg Koskela officiating. Private committal with vault interment was at Valley View Memorial Park in Newberg.

Michael E. Drummond Jr.
Newberg resident Michael Edwin Drummond Jr. died of a brain tumor on July 29, 2005. He was 41.
He was born July 2, 1964, to Michael Drummond and Patricia Hawley in San Diego, Calif. He graduated high school. He worked as a forklift operator in retail and delivery. He married
Patricia Donnelly on May 30, 1998.
He was a member of the Trinity Episcopal Church.
He enjoyed golf, SCUBA diving, gardening and fishing.
Survivors include: wife Patricia of Newberg; father Michael of Denver; mother Patricia Hawley of Newberg; and sisters, Barbara Duncan of Beaverton, Michele Avedisian of Auberry, Calif., and Laurie Thomas of Tollhouse, Calif.
He was preceded in death by stepfather John Hawley.

Rutha E. Doades
Rutha 'Ruthie' Esther Doades died Aug. 6, 2005, at a Newberg care home. She was 81.
She was born Oct. 21, 1923, to Jessie and Mattie (Glenn) Kinnett in Sandborn, Ind., where she grew up. On March 6, 1943, she married
Virgil Doades. She lived most her live in Indiana. She helped build numerous churches in Indiana and one in Henderson, Ky. She also organized tent revivals in remote areas. In 1954 she and her family moved to California, where she worked at Hughes Aircraft in Culver City for 25 years. She retired in Arizona for three years, but to be closer to family moved to Dundee.
She enjoyed fishing, camping, knitting, Bible study and spending time with family.
Survivors include: husband Virgil of Newberg; son Ted; grandchildren Tina and Brian; great-grandchildren Noah and Sophia; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Viewing will be from 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday at Attrell's Newberg Funeral Chapel, 207 Villa Road. A service will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Newberg Christian Church. A private interment will follow at Memorial cemetery.
Patric J. Braniff
Patric Jay Braniff of Aloha, who had family in Newberg, died Aug. 1, 2005. He was 52.
He was born May 2, 1953, to Richard and Joyce (Green) Braniff in Vancouver, Wash. He moved to Oregon in 1960 and attended Farmington, Merle Davies and Highland Hills schools. He graduated in 1971 from Aloha High School, where he played football and was an all-conference baseball player. From 1971 to 1975 he served in Vietnam in the U.S. Air Force, for which he also played baseball. He was a service adviser for Chrysler Corp in Riverside, Calif. He was a member of Imanuel Community Church in Aloha. His family said he was an avid sportsman.
Survivors include: son Christopher of Newberg; father Richard of Beaverton; mother Joyce Braniff of Colorado Springs, Colo.; sister Susan Wolfe of Colorado Springs; stepbrother Ron Christian of Clackamas; stepsisters, Gail Nedrow and Staci Christian, both of Beaverton; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by brother Randall in 1971.
A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Aug. 21 at Imanuel Community Church in Aloha.

Joseph D. Nicol Sr.
Joseph D. Nicol Sr., who had family in Newberg, died Aug. 1, 2005, at his home in McMinnville. He was 86.
He was born May 5, 1919, to the Rev. Duane and Harriet (Duey) Nicol in Dousman, Wis. He married
Barbara Huxford on Feb. 21, 1942, in Chicago. He worked as a forensic scientist for the Chicago Police Department from 1941 to 1950. He moved to Pittsburg to work as a director of a crime lab from 1951 to 1952. He moved to Miami to direct the Dade County Crime Lab from 1952 to 1957. He moved in 1957 to East Lansing, Mich., where he was an associate professor at Michigan State University.
In 1961, he moved to Springfield, Ill., where he was superintendent with the Illinois State Crime Lab until 1968. From 1968 to 1984 he was a professor at the University of Illinois.
He moved to Naperville, Ill., in 1984, to Oro Valley, Ariz., in 1988, and to McMinnville in 1999.
He enjoyed woodworking, jewelry, lapidary (the cutting, polishing or engraving of gems), making models of steam engines, weaving, silver-smithing and pottery. He was a member of the First Baptist Church.
He helped set up a crime lab in South Vietnam. He testified as a ballistic expert before the Warren Commission, which looked into the assassination of President John F. Kennedy and concluded that LeeHarvey Oswald was the lone killer.
Survivors include: wife Barbara of McMinnville; sons, Joseph Jr. of Ely, Minn., Thomas of Bainbridge Island, Wash., Arthur of Chicago, and John of Madison, Wis.; daughters, Mary Nicol-Loucks of Mason, Mich., Patricia Ehrhart of Newberg, and Nancy Brown of Florence, Mont.; brother Frank of Cheney, Wash.; sister Harriett Martin of West Bend, Wis.; 17 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
A service was held Aug. 5 at the Chapel of Macy and Son Funeral Directors in McMinnville with Pastor Kent Harrop officiating.

Steve E. Harrison
Steve E. Harrison died Aug. 1, 2005, at his home in Newberg. He was 56.
He was born June 12, 1949, to Jay and Grace (Dunlap) Harrison in Republic, Wash. He attended Oroville High School in Oroville, Wash. He moved to California for a short time before returning to Oroville, where he worked in the apple sheds. He later worked as a school bus driver for ARA School Bus Company for several years. In 1995 he moved to Newberg and worked for Burns Security in Beaverton.
On Nov. 7, 1990, he married
Patricia Kellogg in Reno, Nev.
He was a member of the American Legion in Canby. He enjoyed fishing.
Survivors include: wife Patricia of Newberg; daughter Jennifer Harrison of Newberg; stepson Shaun Mills of Tigard; and sister Barbara Horton of St. Helens.
He was preceded in death by his brother, Donald, on Nov. 7, 1990.
A private family gathering will be held later. Interment will be private.

Liddy 'Jane' Rosenzweig
Liddy 'Jane' Rosenzweig of Beaverton, who had family in the Newberg area, died July 30, 2005, at Hillsboro Rehabilitation and Specialty Care. She was 79.
She was born Sept. 22, 1925, to Sam and Liddy (Kapping) Dalesky in Junction City. She was raised in the Junction City and Corvallis area. She attended Corvallis High School. During World War II she worked as a welder in the Portland ship yards.
On March 10, 1941, she married
John Rosenzweig. They lived in Vanport City. They later lived in Portland, in Los Angeles and in Norwalk, Calif. She worked in Norwalk as a meat wrapper.
In 1961, she moved to Oregon, where she also worked as a meat wrapper, at Bales Thriftway, for more than 42 years. She retired in 1988.
She and her husband enjoyed golfing, bowling and dancing. They were members of the Rose City Model T Club and the Hillsboro Elks Lodge. She was an active member of the Portland Swap Meet Committee. She enjoyed car tours and seeing the countryside. She enjoyed spending time with her family and friends.
Survivors include: son Kenneth of Beaverton; daughters, Karen Phillis of Beaverton and Gail Corliss of Newberg; brothers, Sam Dalesky of Albany and Delano Dalesky of Hillsboro; sister Loretta Whitworth of Beaverton; six grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by: parents Sam and Liddy Dalesky and husband John.
Visitation will be from 3 to 8 p.m. Monday at Springer and Son Aloha Funeral Home, 4150 S.W. 185th Ave. A funeral service will be held there at 1 p.m. Tuesday. Committal service and interment will follow at Valley Memorial Park cemetery.
