Jesse Fortier
1950-2004
Jesse Fortier, also known as Jessie Savage, died the week of the Fourth of July from unknown causes.
A celebration of life is scheduled Thursday at 7 p.m. at the Pastoral Care Services room at Sacred Heart Medical Center in Eugene. Guests should bring a picture of Jesse.
Fortier was born May 26, 1950, in Presque Isle, Maine, to Anne Florence Savage and Thomas Fortier. She graduated from high school in Bangor, Maine.
She lived in Cottage Grove for 15 years and moved to Eugene in the early 1980s. She earned certificates in NIASE automotive training and her CNA license. She went to college and earned a bachelor of science degree in human services from the University of Oregon.
She lived in Seattle, Wash., from 1992 to 2001. She received a masters degree in social work in 1994 from the University of Washington. She worked at Seattle Emergency Housing Service, Seattle Counseling for Sexual Minorities and served on the Board of Directors of Hepatitis Education Project.
She facilitated Women in Sobriety meetings and organized anti-racism and working class empowerment workshops.
Survivors include her partner of 14 years, friends and family, all who mostly reside in Maine.
She is preceded in death by her parents and many loving cats.

George Herbert Rose
1929-2004
George Herbert Rose, a five-year resident of Cottage Grove, died July 21 at the age of 74 from natural causes.
He was born Sept. 15, 1929, in Springfield, Mass., to Thomas and Claudia Rose. He graduated from Commerce High School in Springfield, Mass.
He married Audrey Rose in East Springfield, Mass., Nov. 3, 1950.
He served in the U.S. Navy from 1951-1955.
He worked for Package Machinery, Spalding Golf and Electorlux and was a draftsman.
He enjoyed home repair and improvement and motorcycle riding.
He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law: Darlene and Michael Davison of Cottage Grove; son: Alan Rose of Phoenix, Ariz.: grandsons and spouse: Cory Davison of Cottage Grove, Craig and Nicole Davison of Cape Coral, Fla., and Alan Rose Jr. of Phoenix, Ariz.; granddaughter: Rene of Springfield, Mass., and brothers and sisters: Kenneth, Thomas, Jack, Claudia and Joyce.
No service was planned.

Paula Watts
Paula Watts of Netarts died of natural causes related to multiple sclerosis June 11, 2004.
She is survived by her husband of 40 years, Jerry Watts, their son, Adam Watts, and many grandchildren.

Barbara LeeGatha Armitage
1940-2004
Barbara LeeGatha Armitage, 64, of Cottage Grove, died Aug. 1. The family did not list cause of death.
She was born Feb. 11, 1940, in Murphy, N.C., to Jesse and Elzie Woody.
She attended Cottage Grove High School and graduated from Oakland High School. She attended Bible Standard College in Eugene.
She married Albert Cleo Armitage in Lorane June 27, 1959. She lived in many parts of the world with her husband who was in the U.S. Army. She originally came to Oregon in the mid-1940s and returned with her husband and son in 1983.
She was a homemaker.
She enjoyed camping, sewing, oil painting and taking care of her home and family.
Survivors include her husband; son: Damon Armitage, of Little Rock, Ark.; granddaughter: Kira Leanne Armitage of Little Rock, Ark.; and brother: Horace Woody of Cottage Grove.
Visitation was held Aug. 4 and a service was held Aug. 5 at Smith-Lund-Mills Funeral Chapel in Cottage Grove. Interment was at Fir Grove cemetery.

Francisco Gomez
1964-2004
Francisco Conejo Gomez, 40, of Cottage Grove, died Sept. 22 of an aneurysm.
He was born June 4, 1964, in Michoacan, Mexico, to Policarpio and Maria Gomez.
He married Angelina Rodriguez in Los Angeles, Calif. He formerly lived in Baldwin Park before moving to Eugene in 1997. He recently moved to Cottage Grove.
He worked for a trust company.
He enjoyed outdoor activities.
Survivors include his wife; parents of Mexico; son: Sergio; brothers: Jose, Mariano and Lamberto; and sisters: Modesta, Ventura, Naborina, Abad, Juana, Oralia, Catalina, Teresa and Dora.
A funeral and mass was held Sept. 24 at our Lady of Perpetual Help in Cottage Grove. A rosary and burial was held at Fir Grove cemetery.
Englands Eugene Memorial Chapel was in charge of arrangements.

Betty J. Mitchell
1928-2004
Betty J. Mitchell, of Cottage Grove, died Oct. 7 of age-related causes. She was 76.
She was born on March 23, 1928, in Sioux City, Iowa, to Wellington and Olga (Hansen) Walker. She married John Edward Mitchell on July 13, 1944, in Vancouver, Wash. He died on March 4, 1992.
She lived in the Cave Junction area approximately 15-20 years before moving to Grants Pass, then to Cottage Grove in the early 1990s.
A homemaker, she enjoyed playing cards and games of chance.
She is survived by six sons: Marvin (and his wife, Judy) Mitchell of Grants Pass, Tony Mitchell of Yreka, Calif., Robert (and his wife, Eva) Mitchell of Cottage Grove, Bill (and his wife, Cindy) Mitchell of Bend, Alvin (and his wife, Maxine) Mitchell of Grants Pass and Tom (and his wife, Debbie) Mitchell of Grants Pass; four daughters: Louise Kienel of Myrtle Creek, Lila (and her husband, Vernon) Faulkner of Myrtle Creek, Cheryl (and her husband, Mike) Johnson of Tigard, Evelyn (and her husband, Steve) Gilmore of Creswell and Stephanie (and her husband, Mike) Amelung of Rice Hill; 28 grandchildren and 26 great-grandchildren.
No service is planned. Smith-Lund-Mills Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.

William Adams
1932-2004
William R. Adams, 71, of Cottage Grove, died Oct. 15, 2004, of kidney failure.
He was born to Joel W. and Theresa (Stoller) Adams on Nov. 12, 1932, in Chicago, Ill. He married Millicent Bennett on Nov. 13, 1956, in Tijuana, Mexico.
He lived in El Cajon, Calif., Lancaster, Calif., and Duncan, Ariz., before moving to Saginaw and then Cottage Grove.
He received a GED while serving in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War. He attended Antelope Valley Community College.
He was a boilermaker, pipefitter and union steward. He was a retired UAW member.
He enjoyed fishing, woodworking and welding.
He was a life member of Oregon American Veterans Post No. 3 and a member and past master of the Cottage Grove Masonic Lodge No. 51.
He received the Hiram Award in 2002.
He is survived by his wife: Millicent Adams; two daughters: Lorena Bilyeu of Culp Creek and Millynda Garcia of Safford, Ariz.; one son: William J. Adams of Disney, Okla.; as well as nine grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will begin at 3 p.m. today at the Cottage Grove Masonic Lodge.
Memorial contributions can be made to the Masonic Grand Lodge, 2150 Masonic Way, Forest Grove, OR 97116.
Smith-Lund-Mills Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.

Marietta Campbell
1955-2004
Marietta Campbell, a lifelong resident of Cottage Grove, died Feb. 27 at the age of 49 from cancer.
She was born Jan. 5, 1955, in Cottage Grove to Gene and Anella (Martin) Campbell of Cottage Grove. She graduated from Cottage Grove High School in 1973 and received an associates degree from Lane Community College in 1975.
She worked 28 years at Zeller and Co. accounting firm.
She loved spending time with family, travel, church, University of Oregon sports, working with Habitat for Humanity, photography and camping.
She was a member of the Church of Christ, Sixth and Gibbs, and the London Grange.
Survivors include her parents: Gene and Anella Camp-bell of Cottage Grove; brothers: Scot and Drew Campbell of Cottage Grove; sisters: Sue Sturgess and Jan Clack of Creswell and Vivian Hoppe of Cheshire; 19 nieces; two great nieces and nephews; and many aunts and uncles.
A service was held Tuesday at Smith-Lund-Mills Funeral Chapel. A private family burial was held at Bemis cemetery in Cottage Grove.
Memorials contributions may be made to the National Multiple Sclerosis Society, Oregon Chapter, 1650 NW Naito Parkway No. 190, Portland, OR 97209.

Ray Holliday
1921-2004
Ray Holliday, of Yuma, Ariz., died March 25 from age-related causes at the age of 82.
He was born Oct. 18, 1921, in Scobey, Mont., to Guy and Esther Holliday.
He moved to the Walker area with his family in 1933. He also lived in Reedsport, Coos Bay and Oregon City before moving to Yuma, Ariz., in November 2003.
He served in the U.S. Army Air Force from 1940-45 and received five decorations, including silver and bronze oakleaf clusters.
He worked as a millwright in his early years, dairy farmer and owned and operated a motel and A&W; Restaurant.
He was a member of the VFW, Elks, Eagles and Moose clubs.
He showed unconditional love and support to his family.
Survivors include his wife; son and daughter-in-law: Mark and Dana Holliday of Oregon City; daughter and son-in-law: Cheryl and Jerry Winters of Houston, Texas; grandchildren: Alisa, Jeff, Jessica, Rex, Ronnie and Julie: and seven great-great-grandchildren.
A service will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at Smith-Lund-Mills. A private inurnment will be at Walker cemetery near Cottage Grove.
Memorial contributions may be made to Reedsport High School Boosters Club: Athletics Programs.
