Norval Eastwood
Norval Lewis Eastwood, 85, of Chitwood died Nov. 2, 2003, of bone cancer.
He was born Dec. 10, 1917, in Ames, Iowa, to Mable (Moses) and George L. Eastwood.
The location of his memorial service has changed. The service will be held at 11 a.m. Dec. 6 at the home of Nancy Eastwood, 13807 SW Palatine Drive, Tigard. Bateman Funeral Home of Newport handled the arrangements.

James "Jimmy" Gentry
James L. "Jimmy" Gentry, 86, of Vancouver, Wash., formerly of Otis, died Oct. 21, 2003, in Vancouver, Wash. of lung cancer.
He was born Dec. 17, 1916, in Willamina.
He spent most of his life on the Oregon coast. He was a logger for many years, then owned an auto body paint shop until his retirement.
Survivors include his wife of 46 years, Georgia Gentry; a daughter, Doreen Mulcahey; three sons, Jerry Gentry, Jim Gentry, and Richard Loveland; and seven grandchildren.
A memorial service and potluck will be held at 1 p.m. Sunday at the Panther Creek Community Club on Wayside Drive, Panther Creek. Those attending are asked to bring a favorite dish to share, along with stories and photographs.
Joseph Hunt
Joseph Wallace Hunt, 86, of Corvallis died Sept. 5, 2003, at his home after a long battle with lung cancer.
He was born March 28, 1917, in Gardner to Ella (Lyster) and Joseph Hunt.
He moved with his family to Corvallis in 1919.
He graduated from Corvallis High School in 1935 and attended Oregon State University for one year.
He married Loraine Taylor in November 1939. She preceded him in death in 1985. He married Paula Stenberg, who preceded him in death in 1995.
He was a firefighter with the Corvallis Fire Department from 1942 to 1946, drove the city ambulance, then continued as a volunteer firefighter for many years while he worked as an electrician for various firms in and around Corvallis.
In 1961, he started Joe Hunt Electric, specializing in the design, installation, and troubleshooting of electrical machinery in industrial and commercial uses. In 1982, he sold the business and retired.
He was a member of Good Samaritan Episcopal Church. He was a member of the Corvallis Elks Lodge No. 1413, where he was a former trustee and was elected Elk of the Year for 1999-2000. He was a member of the Corvallis Masonic Lodge No. 14, and the Al Kader Shrine Temple of Portland. For many years, he worked with area Shriners on the Mary's Peak Trek.
He enjoyed traveling, salmon fishing, and spending time at his beach house in Newport. He also enjoyed using the Internet, especially to research his Irish heritage.
Survivors include two daughters, Sandy Stevens of Keizer and Bobbi Weeks of Manzanita; three grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
A public memorial service will be held at 4 p.m. Friday at the Corvallis Elks Lodge, 1400 NW Ninth St., Corvallis. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to the Benton Hospice Service.
Scott Hill
Scott Hill, 94, of Corvallis died of cancer Feb. 11, 2003 at his home.
He was born Feb. 22, 1908 in Portland to Etta (Karr) and Ira Hill.
He was raised and attended school in Portland, and attended business college for two years.
He worked for Union Pacific and Texaco in Portland. In the late 1940s, he was transferred by Texaco to Eugene and was promoted to district manager of Oregon gas stations.
During World War II, he was assigned to the U.S. Navy shipyards as a shipbuilder.
He supported his mother until her death in 1945.
In the 1950s, he left Texaco to sell real estate. He later started his own business, Scott Hill Photography in Eugene.
He was president of the River Road Parks and Recreation District in the 1950s.
He married Edith Glaisyer. She preceded him in death.
They operated the photography studio until the 1970s.
He moved to Newport in 1993 and resided in Longview Hills.
He moved to Corvallis in 2001, where he was a resident of The Regent Retirement Home.
He held numerous offices in civic, social, and religious organizations throughout his life.
He was a member of the Trinity Methodist Church in Eugene, the First Presbyterian Church in Newport, and the Corvallis Evangelical Church.
He was a member of the Eugene Camera Club, Eugene Organ Club, the Eugene Moose Lodge, the Eugene Eagles, and the Eugene and Newport Elks.
He was a musician, and won the City of Portland "Name That Tune" classical music contest when he was 15. He played the keyboard and organ for various retirement homes, nursing homes, and assisted living centers, including Oceanview Assisted Living Center.
He enjoyed fine dining, and made his own wine from homegrown grapes. He enjoyed the Newport Seafood and Wine Festival.
He was a lifelong sports enthusiast, and enjoyed skiing, basketball, baseball, and football. He played tennis until the age of 90.
He also enjoyed dancing, old movies, gardening, and gourmet chocolate.
Survivors include daughters and son-in-law, Loretta Macpherson of Newport and her children, Pete Macpherson and Mark Macpherson; and LeAnne and Joaquin Mantero of Miami Lakes, Fla., and their daughter, Adriana Mantero. He was preceded in death by his wife of 56 years, Edith Hill; and a son-in-law, Gordon Macpherson.
A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday at the Corvallis Evangelical Church, 1525 NW Kings Blvd., Corvallis, Ore. Memorial contributions may be made to Trinity Methodist Church, Eugene; the First Presbyterian Church, Newport; or the Corvallis Evangelical Church.
Clara Wolverton
Clara V. Wolverton, 83, of Corvallis died Dec. 21, 2002 at Corvallis Manor.
She was born Oct. 26, 1919 in Bloomington, Ill., to Emma (Reeves) and Luther Winkler.
She married Homer O. "Jim" Wolverton on April 24, 1937 in Liberty, Ind. They were married for 54 years. He preceded her in death in 1991.
They lived in Ohio and Oregon. She was a resident of Newport and Siletz.
For the past seven years, she lived in Corvallis with her son and daughter-in-law, Dennis and Sue Wolverton.
Survivors include a sister, Dorothy Clark of Fairfield, Ohio; and three nieces, Linda Oberdorf, Pam Cornelius, and Jenny Green, all of Fairfield, Ohio. She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Woodrow "Buddy" Winkler.
A memorial ceremony will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Rose Hill Chapel, 980 NW Washington Blvd., Hamilton, Ohio. The Rev. Ed Beck will officiate. She will be buried next to her husband in the Masonic section of Rose Hill Park. Memorial contributions may be made to Children's Farm Home, 4455 NE Highway 20, Corvallis, Ore. 97330. Aasum Funeral Home of Albany is handling the arrangements.
Vivian McGuire
Vivian Joyce McGuire, 74, of Neotsu, died May 7, 2001 in Lincoln City.
She was born Feb. 13, 1927 in Portland to Conrad and Elizabeth Yost Repp.
She married Keith McGuire on May 18, 1952. They moved to the Portland area and then to the Lincoln City area from Chicago, Ill.. in 1986, after retirement.
She was a lifetime member of Beta Sigma Phi sorority, and was active in the Congregational Church in Lincoln City.
Mrs. McGuire is survived by her husband, Keith McGuire, of Neotsu; a daughter, Melanie Tipton of Portland; a sister, LaVern Rosenau of Beaverton; and a grandson, Keith Aaron McGuire of Biloxi, Miss. She was preceded in death by a son, Michael McGuire, and a brother, Kenneth Repp.
A memorial service was held May 11 at the Congregational Church in Lincoln City. Disposition was by cremation. Pacific View Memorial Chapel is serving the family.
