Daniel Wilkes
Daniel Russell "Pork Chop" Wilkes, 65, of Oakridge died at his home on April 18, 1999.
He was born in San Diego, Calif. on Feb. 4, 1934. He worked for many years as a commercial fisherman. He lived in Newport for many years before moving to Oakridge. He enjoyed telling entertaining stories.
Survivors include his mother, Jean Orton; a sister, Jerry Lou Menard, both of San Diego, Calif.; and numerous step-children.
A potluck gathering will be held at 5 p.m. today (Friday) at the Bay Haven Pub in Newport. Donations for a memorial bench on the boardwalk of Newport's Bayfront are being accepted at the Bay Haven or at Cuppatunes.
Sylvia Davidson
She was born in Montrose, Iowa on Sept. 29, 1926 to Loran and Helen Beggs VanAusdall. She had been a resident of Newport for the past year.
She married William Davidson in Davenport, Iowa in 1962. He preceded her in death in 1992. For most of her life, she was employed as an accountant. She worked for Hagman's Inc. for many years in Pittsburg, Kansas. She enjoyed sewing and crocheting.
She is survived by her daughter, Nancy Kountz of Newport; grandchildren Lawrence Gormly, Gerald Gormly, and Stephanie Pelletier, all of Las Vegas, Nev.; and four great-grandchildren.
At the decedent's request, no services are planned. Disposition is by cremation, with Bateman Funeral Home in charge of the arrangements.
Dwight Barcus
He was born Feb. 13, 1917 in Panora, Iowa to Harlan and Della Barcus, and moved with his family to Fruita, Colo. in 1928. He grew up in that area.
He married Petrea Mogensen on Feb. 6, 1938, and they lived in the Fruita area until 1972, when they moved to Rifle, Colo., because of his work with the Rifle PCA.
After his retirement in 1982, he and his wife spent summers in Newport, where he enjoyed ocean fishing. They made a permanent move to Newport in 1986 and lived there until 1995, when they moved to Portland.
Mr. Barcus had a variety of occupations, among them as co-owner of a small grocery store with his brother, Melvin; work in a slaughter house and meat packing plant; farmer; sheep and cattle rancher; Rifle PCA fieldman; and later its president.
He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Petrea; daughters and sons-in-law Luthera and Bob Hindman of Oregon City, Delene and Roy Tufly of Dixon, Mont., and Earlynn and Bob Landini of Clifton, Colo.; a son and daughter-in-law, Harlan and Chris Barcus of Gladstone; a foster daughter, Dorothy Russell of Fruita, Colo.; grandchildren Ruby Russell, Kristy Russell Armour, JoAnn Hindman, Gavin Hindman, Darrel Landini, Bradley Landini, Lisa Landini, and Brian Tufly; great-grandchildren Aza Landini and Dillon Young; and brothers Melvin and Lyle, both of Colorado Springs. One son, Darrel, and a grandson, Benji, preceded him in death.
Contributions may be sent to any local hospice group or the church or charity of choice.
A memorial service will be held Thursday at 10 a.m. at Sunnyside Little Chapel of the Chimes in Portland.
Boyd "Andy" Garrison
He was born Oct. 8, 1916 in Leflore, Okla. to James and Evelyn (Gensman) Garrison.
He graduated from high school in Oklahoma.
He served in the U.S. Army during World War II.
He worked in Denver for several years until moving to Oregon and Wyoming.
On Jan. 19, 1948, he married Evelyn Tucker in Stevenson, Wash. She died in 1988.
He enjoyed fishing and traveling, and he liked working in his flower garden at Depoe Bay.
He also enjoyed playing cards with his friends in Depoe Bay.
Survivors include his niece, Rita Neal of Pine Haven, Wyo.; a sister, Beatrice Cecil, of Grand Junction, Colo., and one stepdaughter, Judy Wood of Portland.
At his request, he will be cremated and interred at Willamette National Cemetery.
Memorials have been established at Crook County Hospice.
Ed Mauch
He was born Feb. 10, 1930 to Roy E. and Frances Waylette Mauch in Bellingham, Wash.
He was raised and educated in Eddyville.
He married his wife, Donna, in Reno, Nev. on Oct. 12, 1963.
A truck driver in the coastal area from 1948-1960, he was employed by Siletz Trucking for 24 years.
He retired in 1995.
He was a member of Elks Lodge #1950.
He is survived by his wife, Donna, of Dallas; a daughter, Vicki, of Spanish Fork, Utah; sons Donald of Boise, Idaho and Darryl of Salem; nine grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
A graveside service will be held 11 a.m. today (Wednesday) at Oak Lawn Memorial Park, Corvallis.
Minister Harold Harms will officiate.
Aileen Kenyon
She was born in Grand Island on May 14, 1915 to Percy and Jessie Dill Miller.
She had been a resident of Toledo since 1947.
She married John Kenyon in McMinnville on July 26, 1935. He preceded her in death in 1989.
For most of her life, she was a homemaker.
She was a member of St. John's Episcopal Church in Toledo.
She is survived by her daughter, Marilee Kochler of Toledo; sons John of Seattle, Wash., and Randall of Toledo; four grandchildren, Cheryl Smith of Seattle, Wash., Derek Watson of Shelton, Wash., Martin French of Portland, and Michael French of Toledo; and four great-grandchildren.
She was predeceased by her husband, John, and eldest daughter, Sondra Watson.
Memorial service will be held at St. John's Episcopal Church in Toledo at 2 p.m. today (Wednesday).
Interment will be in Bateman's Chelan Abbey Mausoleum, Newport.
Bateman Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Robert Clark, founder of Clark's Market, dies
Robert Otto Clark of Waldport, 70, died in Waldport on Oct. 19, 2000.
He was born in The Dalles on July 1, 1930.
He married his wife, Beverly, on April 12, 1955 in The Dalles.
For many years, he was a baker for On the Rise Bakery in Yachats.
In 1978, he started Clark's Market in Waldport and operated it until he retired.
He was a member of the Catholic Church in The Dalles, the Elks Lodge of The Dalles, the Yachats Lions Club, and the Knights of Columbus.
He is survived by his wife, Beverly Clark, of Waldport; his daughter, Cheryl Templin, of Waldport; sons Jerry Clark of Waldport, Eric Clark of Yachats, and David Clark of Salem; brothers Victor Clark of Florida, Chester Clark of Waldport, Alvin Clark of The Dalles, and Lawrence Clark of Washougal, Wash.; and nine grandchildren.
A memorial service is set for 2 p.m. Saturday at Yachats Presbyterian Church. Disposition is by cremation.
