Brevig
William Theodore Brevig, 89, of Woodburn, died Nov. 9, 2010. He was born June 16, 1921 in Belmond, Iowa.
He lived in Somers, Mont. as a child. He worked for his father, who owned a saw mill, and in the mines in Butte, Mont.
In 1941, he enlisted in the U.S. Army Air Forces and served a four-year tour of duty. He then went to work for the railroad on the Los Alamos, N.M. project and then moved to Pocatello, Idaho, where he worked as a brake man on the railroad.
He moved to Tacoma, Wash. in 1947 to work for the National Guard. He retired in 1976.
After retiring, he spent many years traveling in his RV between Tacoma and Yuma, Ariz.
His last five years were spent in Woodburn at the Driftwood Mobile Park. It was there that he met his best friends and came to know Christ as his Savior.
He belonged to the Old Time Fiddlers in Washington and Oregon. He enjoyed playing and singing country music on his guitar, both alone and with the jammers at the senior estates when he was well.
He is survived by his sister, Meredith, and her family in Washington.
A graveside service will be held at 9:30 a.m. on Nov. 19 at Willamette National cemetery in Portland.
A Memorial Service will be held at 2 p.m. on Nov. 20 at Woodburn Christian Church.

Meadows
Kitty Meadows, 86, of Tualatin, died Nov. 8, 2010. She was born June 21, 1924 in Callaway, Neb. to Alice and Alfred Deal, the second of four children.
She graduated from high school in Gothenberg, Neb. in 1942, where she was a good student involved in band and musical productions.
After graduation, she and a friend traveled to California where she worked for a year in a bank in Glendale.
She married
Morgan Meadows on July 23, 1943, in Black River, N.Y. After her husband returned from overseas at the end of World War II, they settled in Wellsboro, Pa. They moved west to Albany with their four children in 1955.
The family relocated to Dallas, Ore. in 1967 and to Vancouver, Wash. in 1969. After her husband retired in 1985, they moved first to Manzanita and then to Nehalem, where she worked as a realtor until retirement in 1992.
The couple moved back to Vancouver, Wash. in 1994.
She moved to Wilsonville in 1998 after her husband’s death and then to Farmington Square in Tualatin in 2003.
She was a committed Christian and was actively involved in church and her community wherever she lived.
She is survived by her daughters, Dianne Hill, of Aurora, Ginny Dahlgren, of Tigard, and Gayle Fidanzo, of Aurora; brother, Garry Pomeroy, of Washington; 11 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, Morgan Meadows; son, Dennis Meadows; and brother, Don.
A graveside service will be held Nov. 19 at 9:30 a.m., followed by a celebration of life service at Mid-Valley Community Church, located at 591 Gatch St. in Woodburn, at 11:30 a.m.
Interment will be at Willamette National cemetery.

Barrera
Juan Garza Barrera, 64, of Gervais, died Nov. 11, 2010. He was born April 9, 1946 in Asherton, Texas to Enrique and Anastacia Barrera.
He worked as a teacher at Highland Elementary School in Salem and later at SP Newsprint in Newberg.
He enjoyed the outdoors, including hunting and camping.
He is survived by his wife, Connie “Concha” Barrera; children, Juan Barrerra, Estevan Barrera, Christina Barrera-McCollum, Barbarita Barrera and Andrea Esquivel-Barrera; brothers, Leonard, Eloy, Edwardo, Enrique, Ricardo and David; sister, Olivia Martinez; and eight grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers, Ismael and Erasmo.
A funeral Mass was held Nov. 16 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Gervais. Burial was at Sacred Heart Catholic cemetery in Gervais.

Merten
James “Mike” Merten, 59, of St. Paul, died Nov. 11, 2010. He was born May 11, 1951 in Newberg to Jack and Nancy Merten.
He graduated from St. Paul High School and worked for St. Paul Telephone for several years before working for Canby Telephone for 17 years as a line man.
He enjoyed cars, golf and the rodeo and participated in many horse races in St. Paul and Pendleton.
He was a member of St. Paul Catholic Church.
He is survived by his mother, Nancy Schneider, of St. Paul; children, Chris Merten, of St. Paul, Tracy Merten Fleck, of St. Paul, Brianna Neeley, of Milwaukie, Brittany DiFrancisco, of Oregon City, and Kim Swanson, of Issaquah, Wash.; brothers, Phil Merten, of Davis, Calif., Pat Merten, of St. Paul, and John Flabetich, of Phoenix, Ariz.; sisters, Joyce Schneider, of St. Paul, and Laura Scott, of St. Paul; and 10 grandchildren.
A memorial Mass will be held Nov. 17 at 11 a.m. at St. Paul Catholic Church in St. Paul. A private interment will be held at St. Paul Catholic cemetery.

Dougherty
Pastor David Michael Dougherty, 66, of Woodburn, died Nov. 11, 2010. He was born March 31, 1944 in Portland to James and Doris Johnson-Dougherty.
He grew up and attended school in Pendleton. He earned a Bachelor of Arts from Warner Pacific College and a Master of Divinity from Western Evangelical Seminary.
He also attended Fuller Theological Seminary for his doctorate studies.
He married
Peggy Sue Thompson on Sept. 1, 1967 in Portland. They made their home in Portland and he served as pastor of Rockwood Church of God from 1972-78.
He then moved to Edmonds, Wash. where he served as pastor of Edmonds Church of God for 12 years. He moved to Woodburn in 1990 and served as pastor of Hoodview Church of God for 20 years, before retiring last spring.
He enjoyed music and sports, especially basketball and track, hosting an annual hoop shoot each winter to benefit the church’s college scholarship fund.
He is survived by his wife, Peggy, of Woodburn; daughters, Susan Dougherty, of Oklahoma City, and Sally Dougherty, of Eugene; brothers, Pastor Douglas Dougherty, of Springfield, Daniel Dougherty, of Caldwell, Idaho, and Pastor Thomas Dougherty, of Boise, Idaho; and three grandchildren.
A visitation will be held Nov. 18-19 from 1 to 5 p.m. at Cornwell Colonial Chapel of Woodburn.
A graveside funeral service will be held Nov. 20 at 10:30 a.m. at Belle Passi cemetery in Woodburn.
A memorial service will be held Nov. 20 at 2 p.m. at Hoodview Church of God in Woodburn.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Hoodview Church of God Scholarship Fund.
Staley
Marjorie Ione Staley, 77, of Woodburn, died Nov. 13, 2010.
She was born Feb. 16, 1923 in Vancouver, Wash.
She worked as a classified advertising sales rep for The Register Guard in Eugene.
She grew up in Battleground, Wash. and lived in Eugene for several years before moving to Woodburn in the late 1980s.
She enjoyed golf, bowling and playing cards. She was a member of Woodburn Senior Estates Golf & Country Club.
She is survived by her daughter, Christine Ferschweiler, of Gervais, and son, Charles Staley, of Portland.
A funeral service will be held Nov. 17 at 1 p.m. at Cornwell Colonial Chapel of Woodburn. A reception will follow.
Burial will be in the Gervais Masonic cemetery.

Sheldon
Alvin Charles Sheldon, 92, of Woodburn, died Nov. 12, 2010. He was born July 22, 1918 in La Center, Wash.
He worked as an auto parts manager for GM dealerships.
He is survived by his daughter, Kaaren Sheldon, of Eugene; three grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
A memorial service will be held Nov. 20 at 1 p.m. at Cornwell Colonial Chapel of Woodburn. Private inurnment will be in Belle Passi Memorial Mausoleum in Woodburn.

Richard Joseph Henkes, 63, of Silverton, died Nov. 13, 2010. He was born July 17, 1947 in Woodburn.
He owned Henkes Electric in Woodburn.

Noble Benjamin Shrock, 90, of Woodburn, died Aug. 18, 2011. He was born Feb. 6, 1921.A celebration of life will be held Aug. 26 at 3 p.m. at Hoodview Church of God in Woodburn. A private graveside service with military honors will follow at Belle Passi cemetery.

McDonald Robert Mack McDonald, 87, of Woodburn, died Aug. 10, 2011. He was born July 20, 1924 in Long Beach, Calif.
Shinn
Joseph Lee Shinn, 74, passed away on Aug. 11, 2011 at his home in Redmond.He was born in Portland on Sept. 10, 1936 to parents Joseph Meek Shinn and Alberta Marie (Eastridge) Shinn.He married
Patricia Ann (Baker) Shinn on May 7, 1960. They raised their four daughters in the Portland and Woodburn areas.
