Fobert
Junior Alexander Fobert, 82, of Woodburn, died April 11, 2008.
Born May 29, 1925 in Hubbard, he graduated from Woodburn High School in 1944. He was immediately drafted into the U.S. Army at the height of World War II. He served in General Patton's army from 1944 to 1946. He traveled Europe on foot from France to Czechoslovakia. He was married
to Margaret Juanita Workman on Sept. 18, 1946 in Woodburn.
He earned a living variously as a farmer, heavy equipment operator, welder, mechanic, logger and clearing contractor.
He retired from service with the State of Oregon after more than 30 years with McLaren School for boys.
He was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served as a branch president for several years, also as high priest group leader, executive secretary to bishops, financial clerk and seminary teacher.
He and Juanita served as temple patrons in the Seattle and Portland temples of the church for over 20 years, along with various other callings. They also completed a service mission for the church at the Family History Center in Salt Lake City, Utah.
He is survived by his wife, Juanita of Woodburn; daughters Margaret Sigleer of Woodburn and Patricia McGuffin of Aurora; sons Norman of San Lorenzo, Calif., Charles of Hubbard, Leonard of Wilsonville, John of Salem; two sisters Imogene Rappe and Mary Terrill both of Portland; 22 grandchildren; and 26 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his son Neal in 1965, sister Margaret, brothers, Bill, Frank and Ed Fobert.
A funeral service will be April 19 at 11 a.m. at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Woodburn.
Interment with military honors will be in the Belle Passi cemetery in Woodburn.
Arrangements are by Dallas Mortuary Tribute Center.
Zollner
Raymond J. Zollner, 84, of Gervais, died April 12, 2008.
Born Nov. 5, 1923 in Mt. Angel, he attended St. Mary's grade school in Mt. Angel and graduated from the prep high school staffed by the priests of Mt. Angel Abbey. He was a member of the citizen's band since he was 13.
He was a farmer the majority of his life and drove truck as a side job.
At one time, he was owner and operator of S&M; trucks, which operated out of Silverton. He and his wife operated a berry farm on the family residence in Gervais for many years.
He was a community activist, serving as a member of the Parkersville School board until multiple sclerosis made it impossible for him to enter the building. He and his wife started the multiple sclerosis society in Woodburn and were active members until his age became a deterrent.
They were and are long-time member of Sacred Heart Parish in Gervais.
He was married
to Christina Schaffner Gross in 1950 and adopted her five children.
He is survived by his wife, Christina Zollner of Mt. Angel; children, Ramona Polivka of Portland, Dorothy Gross of Mt. Angel, Michael Gross of Lebanon, Carl Gross of San Antonio, Texas, and Kenneth Gross of Spanaway, Wash.; brother, Donald Zollner of Pacific City; sisters, Irene Ebner of Mt. Angel, Florence Holms of Springfield; 12 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by brother, Alton and sister Adelle.
A visitation will be held April 18 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Cornwell Colonial Chapel.
A prayer vigil will be held April 20 at 7 p.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. A funeral mass will be held April 21 at 10 a.m. at Sacred Heart.
Interment will be at Mt. Calvary cemetery in Mt. Angel.
Arrangements are by Cornwell Colonial Chapel.

Davis
Carl Davis, 85, died April 12, 2008.
Born June 6, 1922 in Estacada, he lived in Portland and Woodburn after graduating from Estacada High School, the University of Oregon and Northwestern College of Law.
He served in the U.S. Army Air Corps as a pilot in Texas and China during WW II.
He worked as an Oregon State police officer, insurance adjuster and underwriter. He also had a private law practice and was an assistant attorney general for Oregon.
He married
Jean Ogle of Lakeview in 1955 and was a member and past president of the Woodburn Rotary Club and was a member of the Woodburn First Presbyterian Church.
Survivors are his wife, Jean; son Jerry Davis of Boring; daughters Janell Wyatt of Dufur, Jennifer Garrett of Salem; and six grandchildren; one great-grandchild.
A private family service will be held at a later date. Memorial contributions may be made to the Rotary Foundation, charity of choice or the Woodburn First Presbyterian Church.
Racette
Richard Racette, 85, of Woodburn, died April 16, 2008.
Born Oct. 1, 1922 in Aurora, he graduated from Woodburn High School and served in the U.S. Navy during WW II. He was a hop farmer, dairy man and attended veterinary school in Seattle to further his education in dairy. He sold his farm in 1962 and worked as a Realtor for Malone Realty in Newberg, selling agriculture/farm land and commercial real estate.
He married
his wife, Sandi Williams, in 1983.
He retired and moved from Dundee to Woodburn in 1995. He was an avid University of Oregon fan and he enjoyed golfing. He was a member of the Woodburn Eagles and Elks lodges.
Survivors are his wife, Sandi Racette, of Woodburn; son Richard Racette of Newberg; daughter Carol Derby of Helena, Mont.; stepson Randy Miller of Halsey; brother Walter Racette of Woodburn; eight grandchildren and one great grandchild.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Margie Russell, brother, George Racette, and stepson, Steven Miller.
A visitation will be April 22 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Cornwell Colonial Chapel and a funeral service will be held April 23 at 11 a.m. at Cornwell's. A private entombment will be at Valley View Memorial Mausoleum in Newberg.

Whaley
Gerald "Jerry" Lee Whaley, 78, died April 8.
He was born July 5, 1929, to Lee and Hellen Whaley in Peoria, Ill.
He attended school in Cullem, Ill. After school he entered the U.S. Navy during the Korean conflict.
He married
Hazel Peacher Feb. 5, 1952 in Vancouver, Wash. He then moved to Gold Hill, where he got into the construction field. He lived in Woodburn for 18 years then later moved to Prineville in 1991, at which time he retired as a crane operator.
He enjoyed building guns, shooting, riding horses, hunting and spending time with family. He was a member of the NRA, Grizzly Mountain Long Rifles and IUOE #701.
He is survived by his wife, Hazel Whaley of Prineville; daughters, Judy Simpson of Central Point, Carol O'Higgins of Central Point and Laurie Phillips of Cornelius, Tenn.; son, Steven Higgins of Central Point; sister, Sarah Fincham of Bloomington, Ill; brother, Lester Whaley of South Carolina; 10 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his parents; one son; one grandson; one brother and one sister.
Funeral arrangements were made by Whispering Pines Funeral Home.
Ballweber
Arnie Ballweber, 69, of Aurora, died April 17, 2008.
Born Feb. 1, 1939in Mt. Angel, he graduated from Silverton High School and was the football running back, he was also the "Yell King". He attended community college in Calif. and learned the cleaning trade business. He served in the U.S. Coast Guard and Reserves and then started a cleaning service in the Woodburn/Monitor area. He then designed and manufactured cleaning machines and was the owner of Ballweber Carpet Cleaning Service in Aurora for over 35 years, retiring two years ago. He was a member of the Catholic Church, the American Legion Canby Post #01222, and the Woodburn Eagles Lodge #3284. He enjoyed fishing, boating and water skiing.
He is survived by his daughters, Heather Sickler of Miami Beach, Fla., Jessica Opitz of Silverton; brothers, Donald of Albany, James "Chip" of Hubbard, Richard of Portland, Patrick "Pat" of Vancouver, Wash.; sisters, Florence Fleskes of Portland, and Jeanne Jackson of Silverton.
Services are pending.

McConnell
Dorothy L. McConnell, 63, died Aug. 18, 2009. She was born Aug. 27, 1946 in Louisiana. She was raised in Broadacres and went to North Marion High School.
She was a beautician and bartender in Hubbard, Woodburn and Mt. Angel. She later was in real estate investments.
She is survived by her daughters, Sherrie Widlund, Shannon Schmidt, Shellie Boen, sister Shirley Erwert, brothers Arbie Irwin, Alex Irwin and John Lee, nine grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Parkerson
Paul Parkerson, 81, of Woodburn died Feb. 12, 2010. He was born Dec. 3, 1928 in Oklahoma.
He was a truck driver for Delap Trucking.
He is survived by his wife Martha Reed-Parkerson of Woodburn; daughters Linda Brown of Newport, Paula Kresse and Jackie Arnold of Aumsville, Julie McKinney of Woodburn and Kathy Burland of Silverton; and brother Dale Baker of Woodburn.
Private family services will be held. Arrangements by Cornwell Colonial Chapel.
Babcock
Rodney E. Babcock, 66, of Woodburn, died Feb. 15, 2010. He was born Sept. 14, 1943 in Dallas and lived in Anchorage, Alaska from 1965-1988 before returning to Oregon in 1988. He enjoyed computers and photography.
He is survived by his wife Claudia Babcock of Woodburn; two sons and two grandchildren.

Gillanders
Dora Olive (Tresider) Gillanders, 98, of Placerville, Calif., died Feb. 12, 2010. She was born Dec. 31, 1911 in Covington, Okla. To Wilbur Tresider and Anna Belle (Rogers) Tresider.
She was born in Oklahoma and lived in Michigan as a child before her family settled in the Woodburn area. She attended Hubbard Elementary School and graduated from Woodburn High School in 1930.
She married
Bruce W. Gillanders on Sept. 26, 1934 in Woodburn. She worked at the cannery when she was younger and moved throughout the world with her husband throughout his 35-year career in the U.S. Air Force.
She enjoyed cooking and was a three-time grand prize winner of the Sacramento Union annual cook-off.
She belonged to the Christian Church and was president of the 2049th Wives Club as well as other civic and philanthropic affiliations in her youth and throughout husband's military career.
She is survived by two grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband Bruce and children Dennis and Carrie.
There will be a graveside service Feb. 20 at 1 p.m. at Belle Passi cemetery in Woodburn. Arrangements by Cornwell Colonial Chapel.
