Lopez
Ofelia Valdez Lopez, 70, of Gervais died July 20, 2002.
Born Oct. 2, 1931, in Hualahuises, Nuevo Leon, Mexico, she was a field worker and worked in the cannery. She lived in California before mvoving to Oregon in 1963. She moved to Gervais in 1965.
She married
Hilario Lopez; he died in 1972.
Survivors include her daughters, Silbia Lopez, Yolanda Tavera, Carolina Duran and Ann Marie Lopez, all of Salem, Raquel Lopez of Gervais, and Margarita Carrillo of Kelso, Wash.; sons, Liborio Lopez of Molalla and Hilario Lopez Jr. of Gervais; sister, Rosa Valdez of Salem and Minerva Martinez of Texas; borther, Pablo Valdez and Marcelino Valdez Jr, both of Salem and Eduardo Valdez of Texas; 34 grandchildren; and 21 great-grandchildren.
Services will begin at 2 p.m. July 24 in Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Gervais. Interment will be in Sacred Heart Catholic cemetery, Gervais.
Arrangements are by Unger Funeral Chapel, Silverton.

Albrich
Barbara Mary Albrich, 91, of Mount Angel died July 20, 2002.
Born June 10, 1911, in Portland, she attended Holy Redeemer School in Portland, and graduated in Mount Angel Academy. She joined the Benedictine Sisters in Mount Agnel in 1928. She made her religious profession on Aug. 17, 1930, took the name of Sister Therese Marie. She received a Bachelor's Degree in Education from Mount Angel College, and began teaching at St. Mary's School in Mount Angel. She later taught at Mount Angel Academy, at St. Lukes School in Woodburn and at St. Marys School in Albany. She took classes at the Portland Museum Art School, at Marylhurst college, and Dominican College in San Rafael, Calif. She spent a year a the University of Texas in Austin, in 1969. She continued teaching art at John F. Kennedy High School in Mount Angel and Mount Angel Seminary.
Her interests included painting.
Survivors include her sister, Mary Fitzgerald of Salem; brothers, Robert Albrich of Tigard and Harold Albrich of Woodburn.
A Bible Vigil was held July 23 in Queen of Angels Monastery Chapel. Mass will be celebrated July 24.
Interment will be held in the Queen of Angels Monastery Chapel.
Gorczewski
Barbara Gorczewski, 84, of Woodburn died July 20, 2002.
Born Jan. 20, 1918, in Altrincham, England, she worked as a housekeeper for nursing homes. She moved ot the United States in 1954.
She married
Wladyslaw "Laddy" Gorczewski Feb. 14, 1947, in Altrincham; he died in 1993.
Survivors include her daughter, Denise Church of Eugene; sons, Peter of Okinawa, Jan of Woodburn, Rishard of San Jose
Services will begin at 10:30 a.m. July 25 in Cornwell Colonial Chapel, Woodburn. Interment will be in St. Lukes cemetery, Woodburn.
Arrangements are by Cornwell Colonial Chapel.
Contributions may be made to the Hope and Health Center in Woodburn.
Brown
Henry Ithamar Brown, 82, of McMinnville, died July 21, 2002.
Born March 4, 1920, in Aurora, he grew up in the Portland area. He graduated in 1945, from Northwest Nazarene College in Nampa, Idaho with a Bachelor's degree in Arts in Religion. He received his Masters degree in Education from Western Oregon State College in Monmouth. He began preaching at the age of 16 and continued for 66 years in teh capacity as pastor until retiring, both in The Church of the Nazarine and the Church of God in the Pacific Northwest Area and Canada. He also spent 34 years as an educator in the Oregon and Idaho schools as principal and teacher from the first grade through high school.
His interests included automobiles and playing the harmonica.
He married
Gwendolyn Steiber June 23, 1942.
Survivors include his wife; son, Rev. Dale Brown; daughters, Jean Gary, Carol Sullivan; sisters, Lorene Sarver and Elva Peffly; nine granchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
Services were held
Services will begin at 2:30 p.m. July 25 at the Church of the Nazarene in Sheridan.

Corral-Nevarez
Jose R. Corral-Nevarez, 70, of Mt. Angel, died Jan. 28, 2005.
Born July 4, 1934 in San Padro, Durango, Mexico, he moved to the Mt. Angel area 30 years ago from Mexico and worked as a farm laborer at a tree/landscape nursery.
He was a member of the Catholic Church.
He is survived by his wife, Clara Renteria of Mt. Angel; sons, Jesus, Abelino, Sotero, Pedro, Jose, and Jorge; daughters, Basilia, Belen, Merejilda, Leouarda, Hortencia, Clemencia, Guadalupe, and Yadira; 40 grandchildren and 30 great-grandchildren.
A funeral mass was held Feb. 1 at St. Luke Catholic Church.
Arrangements are by Simon-Woodburn Funeral Chapel.
Schaffner
Romanus "Rony" Schaffner, 70, of Woodburn, died Jan. 29, 2005.
Born Aug. 11, 1934 in Linten, N.D., he moved to Coeur d'Alene, Idaho shortly after, where he lived most of his young life. He later moved to Mt. Angel. He was the 13th child of Rapheal and Dorothy Schaffner.
With the help of his wife of 44 years, Kathleen, whom he married
Aug. 13, 1960, they started a tropical fish and Koi business in the early 1980s called "The Fish Pond" at their Woodburn residence where he supplied Koi raised from eggs, tropical fish, tanks, supplies and a wealth of information.
He enjoyed the outdoors, especially fishing and hunting. He enjoyed playing pool with his family, making crafts, and lending a hand to anyone who could use one.
He is survived by his wife, Kathleen; brothers, Leo, Clem and Alex; sisters, Chris, Anne and Margie; children, Joe of Boise, Kenny of Lyons, Danny of Salem, Ron of Woodburn, John of Salem, Carol of Sutherlin, and Mary of Forest Grove; 16 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Feb. 2 at St. Luke's Catholic Church.
Swaggart
Wayne L. Swaggart, 95, of Woodburn, died Jan. 29, 2005.
Born March 1, 1909 in Athena, he moved to Portland at the age of 13 and was a fourth generation wheat farmer owning a farm in Athena. He graduated from Benson Tech High School and attended business college in Portland. He worked as an engineer designing layouts for canneries and breweries. He lived in Bellevue, Wash., for 10 years before moving to Woodburn Senior Estates in 1972. He enjoyed boating, dancing, gardening, inventing and making models and wine. He was a life member of the Woodburn Masonic Lodge and was a member of the Methodist Church.
He married
Emily V. Johnson in Portland on Sept. 6, 1930. She preceded him in death on May 8, 2000.
He is survived by son, Kenneth Swaggart of Lincoln City; daughters, Lucille Bigelow of Eugene and Marion Perry of Salem; seven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Feb. 5 at Woodburn United Methodist Church.
Arrangements are by Cornwell Colonial Chapel.

Yuranek
Dale Vernon James Yuranek, 76, of Woodburn, died Nov. 6, 2006.
Born Oct. 7, 1930, he moved to Woodburn from Norfolk, Neb., when he was 6 years old with his parents Charles and Evelyn Yuranek, and his three siblings.
He graduated from Woodburn High School in 1949. After four years of serving in the Korean Conflict with the United States Navy, he met and married
Charlene Buyserie in 1955.
He graduated from Mt. Angel College in 1962 and began a career that spanned 36 years, primarily at Woodburn High School. He taught social studies, coached football and basketball, and served as athletic director until his retirement in 1994.
He was awarded the State Athletic Director of the Year award in 1982-83, named Regional Athletic Director of the Year in 1983 and 1993, and was nominated for National Athletic Director of the Year award.
He initiated the first student work program in the community, organized the Bulldog Foundation, and was honored with a special Citizen's Award and Outstanding Educator of the Year award by the Woodburn Area Chamber of Commerce.
He was actively involved in the lives of youth throughout the community throughout his teaching career.
He is survived by his wife, Charlene, of Woodburn; mother, Evelyn; sisters, Joyce Buss and Mary Richey; children, Craig, Randy, Tammie and Daleen; and seven grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his father, Charles; brother, Merrill.
Public visitation will be 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Nov. 9 at Cornwell Colonial Chapel, Woodburn.
Lichty
Harold R. Lichty, 90, of Woodburn, died Nov. 3, 2006.
Born Dec. 3, 1915 at La Verna, Iowa, he later married
Norma Murray in Elko, Nev., on Jan. 31, 1958. She preceded him in death on April 1, 2002.
He worked in property management for the Atomic Energy Commission for 25 years. He moved to Woodburn from Idaho Falls in 1974.
He was a past president of the Woodburn Senior Estate's Golf and Country Club, a member of the United Methodist Church, and Elks Lodge. He was a United States Navy veteran of World War II.
He is survived by his step-daughters, Sharon Empey of Blackfoot, Idaho, and Darrellyn Kniffen of Ben Lomond, Calif.; brother, De Ray Lichty of Mason City, Iowa; three grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild.
A private inurnment will be held at Willamette National cemetery, Portland.
Rhodes
Kenneth O. Rhodes, 89, of Oregon City, formerly of Hubbard, died Nov. 2, 2006.
Born Sept. 4, 1917 in Elwood, Kan., he owned and was a chef for many restaurants in the Willamette Valley, as well as cooking for the Elks and Eagles lodges in Woodburn, where he was a member. He lived in California before moving to Lake Oswego, Hubbard and to Oregon City in 2000. He was also a member of the Moose Lodge in Molalla.
He enjoyed bowling, softball, boating, swimming and fishing.
He is survived by his son, Michael Rhodes of Aurora; daughter, Bonnie Zepeda of Hubbard; two grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Interment will be private.
