Jack V. Cornell of Bend died Friday of natural causes. He was 87.
A private service will be held.
Mr. Cornell was born June 5, 1914, in Bandon. He married
Jean Thompson on Feb. 28, 1947, in Coos Bay.
He served in the U.S. Air Force during World War II.
Mr. Cornell worked for the International Paper Company. He moved to Bend 10 years ago.
He was affiliated with the Tumalo Community Church. He was a member of the Bend Eagles Lodge and Disabled American Veterans.
Survivors include his wife of Bend; a son, Jack of Bend; a daughter, Margo Marlin of North Bend; five grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.

Harlen Youker
Feb. 10, 1930 - April 7, 2002
Harlen Youker of Bend died Sunday of natural causes. He was 72.
A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Pilot Butte cemetery.
Mr. Youker was born Feb. 10, 1930, in Sayer, Okla. He married
Mary Gurule on Nov. 14, 1953, in Reno, Nev.
He worked as a hydro electric engineer for General Electric. He retired in 1996. He moved to Bend in 1998.
Mr. Youker enjoyed woodworking.
Survivors include his son, Harlen of St. Helens; three daughters, Shannon St. John of Seattle, Paula Schaffer and Linda Kilgore, both of Bend; nine grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife.

James Russell Looman
May 11, 1916 - April 5, 2002
James Russell Looman of Bend died Friday of natural causes. He was 85.
He served in the U.S. Marines in the South Pacific during World War II.

Ethel Florence (Waltz) Brooks
Dec. 7, 1906 - April 3, 2002
Ethel Florence (Waltz) Brooks of Ontario, Calif., died Wednesday of natural causes. She was 95.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at Dayspring Christian Center in Terrebonne.
Mrs. Brooks was born Dec. 7, 1906, in Johnstown, N.Y., to Henry and Florence Waltz. She married
Ralph Brooks on April 30, 1925, in Fultonville, N.Y.
She farmed and worked sewing gloves in glove factories in Gloversville, N.Y. She also lived in California and Bear River City, Utah. She moved to Redmond in 1989.
Mrs. Brooks enjoyed embroidery, crocheting and gardening.
Survivors include her two sons, Robert of Redmond and Richard of Wisconsin; two daughters, Lois Ward of Utah and Jean Nelson of California; 12 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; and 17 great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, a son and a grandson.

Roger Allan Behn
Feb. 21, 1947 - April 3, 2002
Roger Allan Behn of La Pine died Wednesday of a heart attack. He was 55.
No service will be held.
Mr. Behn was born Feb. 21, 1947, in Ida Grove, Iowa to Fred and Bette Behn. He married
Donna Roark on July 10, 1993, in Rockwell City, Iowa.
He served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War.
Mr. Behn worked as a self-employed truck driver for 35 years. He lived in La Pine for five and a half years.
He was a member of the Moose Lodge. He enjoyed gardening and golfing.
Survivors include his wife of La Pine; three sons, Corey Laver of Iowa, Shawn Olwell and John Olwell, both of Portland; a daughter, Amy of Weehawken, N.J.; mother; three sisters, Chris Burgess of Denison, Iowa, Julie Garrett of Fort Dodge, Iowa and Shelli Groat of Otho, Iowa; and five grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his father.

Peggy Mildred (Bailey) Massey
March 17, 1926 - April 6, 2002
Peggy Mildred (Bailey) Massey of Bend died Saturday of natural causes. She was 76.
A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. Friday at Niswonger, Reynolds and Tabor Chapel.
Mrs. Massey was born March 17, 1926, in Portland. She worked as a life guard as a teen-ager. She married
Bill Massey on June 29, 1947, in Los Angeles.
She was a homemaker.
Mrs. Massey received her pilot's license at age 18. She enjoyed camping, water skiing, swimming and sewing.
Survivors include her husband of La Pine; a son, Rick of Bozeman, Mont.; and a daughter, Diane Massey-Todd of Napa, Calif.
She was preceded in death by her two sisters.

Arline (Atz) Smith

Arline (Atz) Smith of Bend died Saturday of natural causes. She was 100.

Mrs. Smith was born Dec. 26, 1901, in Marion, Iowa. She attended business college in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. She married
Lyman Smith on Oct. 30, 1923, in Marion, Iowa.
She worked as a secretary. She moved to Bend in 1983.
Mrs. Smith enjoyed traveling, playing bridge and tating.
Survivors include her son, Jim of Bend; and two grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband and a brother.
