Ronald Culver Johnson
May 22, 1963 - April 11, 2002

Ronald Culver Johnson of Seattle died Thursday of cancer at St. Charles Medical Center. He was 38.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at St. Therese Catholic Church in Seattle.

Mr. Johnson was born May 22, 1963, in Glendale, Calif., to Robert and Barbara (Adair) Johnson.

He worked as the western region account executive at Liz Claiborne in Seattle for 13 years.

Mr. Johnson enjoyed working and spending time with his family and friends.

Survivors include his parents of Sisters; two brothers, Robert of Terrebonne and Richard of Sisters; a sister, Terri Bishop of Oregon City; and a grandmother, Ruth Adair of San Clemente, Calif.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, 2350 Oakmont Way, Suite 200, Eugene 97401 or St. Charles Medical Center's Cancer Program, 2500 NE Neff Road, Bend 97701.

Irene LaVerne (Hannan) Alley
Nov. 8, 1909 - April 13, 2002

Irene LaVerne Alley of Culver died Saturday of natural causes. She was 92.

A funeral will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Bel-Air Colonial Funeral Home.

Mrs. Alley was born Nov. 8, 1909, in Buckston to Edger and Lola (Blum) Hannan. She married Robert Alley on Jan. 2, 1930, in Eugene.

Mrs. Alley was a homemaker. She moved to Culver in 1951.

She was a member of the Culver Garden Club and the Morrow Bay Eagles and a former member of the Lady Elks.

Mrs. Alley enjoyed gardening, traveling, camping and fishing. She also enjoyed painting and ceramics.

Survivors include her sons, Ron and Jack, both of Culver; seven grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, parents and two sisters.

Bel-Air Colonial Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Gary Brock Gogle
May 14, 1937 - March 21, 2002

Gary Brock Gogle of La Pine died March 21 of cancer. He was 64.

A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. Monday at Central Pines Funeral Home.

Ruth Ann (Terlisner) Robinson
Feb. 17, 1927 - May 14, 2003

Ruth Ann (Terlisner) Robinson of Bend died Wednesday in an automobile accident. She was 76.

A graveside service will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday at Pilot Butte cemetery followed by a memorial service at 4 p.m. Sunday at Westside Church in Bend.

Mrs. Robinson was born Feb. 17, 1927, in Carroll, Iowa to Lawrence and Luann Terlisner. She graduated from Bend High School in 1945. She married Vernon at the First Presbyterian Church in Bend in 1962. She was runner-up in the Mrs. Oregon contest, declining the top spot to be with her family.

She worked for the Idaho Daily Statesman and later for The Bulletin. She was an office secretary for the City of Bend Police Department and a court bailiff. She then worked as a legal secretary.

Mrs. Robinson was a member of the Pilot Butte State Park Volunteers organization.

Her hobbies included traveling and gardening. She especially enjoyed spending time with her family and friends.

Survivors include her husband of Bend; four daughters, Vickie McNutt, Connie Johnson, Linda Blanton and Rebecca Bowe; a sister, Susan Spence; nine grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, a brother and a sister.

Memorial contributions may be made to Oregon State Parks, Pilot Butte Trust Fund c/o High Desert Management Unit, 62976 O.B. Riley Road, Bend 97701.

Alfred Al Dennison Ball
June 5, 1911 - May 13, 2003

Alfred Al Dennison Ball of Prineville died Tuesday. He was 91.

A visitation will be held from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. today at Whispering Pines Funeral Home. A graveside service will be held at 1 p.m. Monday at Redmond Memorial cemetery.

Mr. Ball was born June 5, 1911, in Kirk, Colo., to Oliver and Maude (Cory) Ball. He attended college in Moscow, Idaho. He married Thelma Terrill on April 5, 1993 in Reno, Nev.

He moved to Redmond and worked for Swift&Co.; as a certified butter maker. He then went to work for Tite-Knot Sawmill until 1942. Mr. Ball was the owner of Als Super Cream Ice Cream Store in Redmond before going to work for Kilgores Dairy. He retired in the mid-1970s.

Mr. Ball was a member of the Redmond Grange.

His hobbies included fishing, hunting and playing pinochle. He also enjoyed visiting with his family and friends.

Survivors include his wife of Bend; a daughter, Phyllis Redding of Prineville; six stepchildren; a granddaughter; five great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Waneta and second wife, Dorthea, his parents, two sisters and a grandchild.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Salvation Army or a charity of ones choice.

James Franklin Short
July 12, 1934 - May 11, 2003

James Franklin Short of Lebanon died Sunday. He was 68.

No service will be held.

Mr. Short was born July 12, 1934, in Kingsport, Tenn., to Meldrey Sr. and Roxie (Rash) Short. He grew up and attended schools in Norton, Va.

He served in the Air Force for 20 years as a flight engineer. He was stationed at Travis Air Force Base in California.

Mr. Short moved to Tillamook in 1973 where he worked for the city of Bay City. He then moved to Bend in 1981 where he resided until the late 1990s. He worked for the Oregon Department of Transportation Highway Division. He then moved to Lebanon.

His hobbies included fishing for salmon, steelhead and bass. He also enjoyed gold panning and fruit.

Survivors include his three sons, Paul and Jeff, both of Tillamook and James of Bend; a daughter, Lani of Tillamook; two sisters, Johnnie Ruth Sisco of Flagstaff, Ariz., and Maureen Sisco of Arizona; and eight grandchildren.

Huston-Jost Funeral Home in Lebanon is in charge of arrangement.

Ivan C. Raney
Nov. 4, 1921 - May 9, 2003

Ivan C. Raney of Prineville died May 9. He was 81.

No service will be held.

Mr. Raney was born Nov. 4, 1921, in Elk City, Kan. He grew up and attended schools in Kansas. He married Ida Mae Howes on Aug. 12, 1950, in Reno, Nev.

He served in the Army from 1944 to 1946 during World War II. He was in the South Pacific serving in Luzon and the Philippines.

Mr. Raney moved to Oregon and worked in the woods driving trucks and building loggings roads. He lived in Springfield for 36 years and then moved to Prineville in 1979.

He enjoyed camping, hunting, four-wheeling and motorcycles. He also enjoyed the mountains and liked to take drives to view wildlife.

Survivors include his wife of Prineville; two sons, Albert of Sutherlin and Eddie of San Cendro, Calif.; a daughter, Ivy Kelly of Sutherlin; a stepdaughter, Joy Daweritz of Sprague, Wash.; two brothers, Walter of Lookout, Calif., and Gilbert of Louisburg, Kan.; 10 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

Edward Andrew Anderson
Nov. 16, 1925 - May 13, 2003

Edward Andrew Anderson of Prineville died Tuesday of natural causes. He was 77.

No service will be held per his request.

Mr. Anderson was born Nov. 16, 1925, in Staten Island, N.Y., to Carl and Elizabeth (Price) Anderson. He was raised and educated in Brooklyn and Chicago.

He served in the Navy during World War II. He was honorably discharged on March 21, 1946. He married Donna Wachs on Feb. 25, 1950, in Exeland, Wisc.

Mr. Anderson worked for Parkview Metal Products in Chicago for 27 years. He retired as vice-president in 1978. He then moved to Oregon City and worked for Jarmen Co. After retiring in 1985, he settled in Prineville.

He was a former member of the Swedish Club, Moose Lodge and American Legion, all in Chicago.

Mr. Anderson was an avid sports fan and enjoyed the Green Bay Packers, Dodgers and Mariners. His hobbies also included fishing, gardening and inventing.

Survivors include his wife of Prineville; two daughters, Karen of Seattle, Wash., and Kristine Ganes of Seattle, Wash.; three sisters, Evelyn Kenny, Ellen Schramm and Muriel Hofer; and one grandchild.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother and a sister.

Memorial contributions may be made to Pioneer Memorial Home Health or Hospice.

Betty Jean Hughley
Oct. 15, 1922 - May 12, 2003

Betty Jean Hughley of Redmond died Monday of natural causes. She was 80.

A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday at Kingdom Hall of Jehovahs Witnesses, 851 NW Canal Blvd., Redmond.

Mrs. Hughley was born Oct. 15, 1922, in Miles City, Mont., to Adam and Pearl (Brunson) Maxwell. She married William Hughley on July 15, 1938, in Deer Lodge, Mont.

She was a homemaker. Mrs. Hughley moved to Myrtle Creek in 1950 and to Pueblo, Colo., in 1971. She retired to the Redmond area in 1983.

Her hobbies included gardening, yard work and collecting antiques. She also enjoyed traveling to Scotland and spending time with her family.

She was affiliated with the Jehovahs Witnesses faith.

Survivors include her husband of Redmond; two sons, Gary and Jon; three daughters, Janet Shoemaker, Danna Gibson and Barbara Heaney; a sister, Danna Van Oster; 14 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her son, parents and two siblings.
