Clarence Raymond 'Corn' Close

Clarence Raymond "Corn" Close of Prineville died Monday of natural causes. He was 84.
A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m., Saturday, Dec. 4, at Prineville Golf and Country Club.
Mr. Close was born April 19, 1920, in McCall, Idaho, to Otto and Sylvia (Savage) Close. He graduated from McCall High School. He married
Ardys Houston Robirds on April 23, 1979, in Reno, Nev.
Mr. Close served in the Army Air Corps during World War II. He owned and operated Ochoco Sales and Service, a small engine repair shop. He was a member of the Prineville Elks Lodge, Eagles Lodge, Veterans of Foreign Wars, Masonic Lodge of Prineville, Golf and County Club and the Crook County Historical Society. He enjoyed golfing.
Survivors include his wife of Prineville; five daughters, Anita Endresen of Silverton, Linda Christensen of Prineville, Joyce Graven of Goodyear, Ariz. and Laurie Wall of Oakley, Calif.; a brother, Creston of Bend; two sisters, Edith Cumming of Beatty, Nev. and Lois Wilde of McCall, Idaho; seven grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a stepdaughter, five brothers and three sisters.

Annette Maybel (Bartlett) McSweeney
Dec. 7, 1914 - Feb. 25, 2002
Annette Maybe (Bartlett) McSweeney died Feb. 25 of natural causes. She was 87.
A service was held.
Mrs. McSweeney was born Dec. 7, 1914, in Vancouver, Wash. She married
James McSweeney on June 17, 1946, in Reno, Nev.
She enjoyed her animals and was known as the ”Cat Lady.”

John J. DeMarco
Aug. 26, 1920 - March 6, 2002
John J. DeMarco of Bend died Wednesday. He was 81.
A viewing will be held at 5:30 p.m. today at Deschutes Memorial Funeral Home. A memorial mass will be held at noon Saturday at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church.
Mr. DeMarco was born Aug. 26, 1920, in Nashwauk, Minn. He married
Leona Petroske on May 12, 1948, in Keewatin, Minn.
He owned and operates an investment sales business. He moved to Bend in 1976. He retired in 1992.
Mr. DeMarco was affiliated with St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church. He was a member of the Issac Walton League.
Survivors include his wife of Bend; five sons, Ray and Jim, both of Portland, John of Eugene, Richard of Bend and Jerry of Springfield; and two daughters, Clare Drews of Portland and Mary Griswold of Friday Harbor, Wash.
He was preceded in death by his two sons and parents.

Vandor Edwin Thompson
May 6, 1915 - March 6, 2002
Vandor Edwin Thompson of Prineville died Wednesday of natural causes. He was 86.
A viewing will be held from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. Saturday at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Prineville. A funeral will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Prineville. A burial will follow at Juniper Haven cemetery.
Mr. Thompson was born May 6, 1915, in Downey, Idaho to John and Elvira (Christensen) Thompson. He married
Bernice Tracy on April 14, 1937.
He worked in the shipping yards in Southern California. He then moved to Klamath Falls where he worked as a electrician. He owned and operated Van's Electric in Lakeview. He moved to Prineville where he opened a Van's Electric. He then sold his business and worked for COIN Mill. He retired in 1979. He married
Elaine McFarlane on Aug. 7, 1989, in Portland.
Mr. Thompson was affiliated with the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
He was a member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers. He enjoyed fishing, gardening and building.
Survivors include his wife of Prineville; three sons, Deone of Eagle Mountain, Utah, Ronal of Prineville and Dennis of Bend; a brother, Rulon of Jerome, Idaho; two sisters, Fern O'Rourke of California and Lena; 12 grandchildren; 15 step-grandchildren; and 25 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, parents, two brothers, five sisters and a grandchild.

Norma Jean 'Jeanie' (Maier) Thompson
April 11, 1939 - April 15, 2002
Norma Jean ”Jeanie” (Maier) Thompson of Bend died Monday of cancer at her home. She was 63.
A funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints at 1260 NE Thompson Drive in Bend. Burial will follow at Pilot Butte cemetery.
Mrs. Thompson was born April 11, 1939, in Eugene to Reuben and Eunice (Hinton) Maier. She married
V.V. ”Bud” Kuykendall in 1958.
She worked for a variety of businesses including the Eugene Planing Mill. She moved to Bend in 1970. She married
Dennis Thompson on June 9, 1972. She and her husband owned and operated Tomco Electric. She opened Design Lighting in 1989.
Mrs. Thompson was affiliated with the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and was the Relief Society and Young Women's president, a seminary teacher and nursery leader. She and her husband served in a church mission to Salt Lake City in 1999. She enjoyed spending time with her children and grandchildren, going to a Crescent Lake cabin, the beach, swimming, water skiing, flying, scuba diving, horses and nature.
Survivors include her husband of Bend; three sons, James Kuykendall, Colby and Kelly; three daughters, Stacy Ainge, Sandy Kuykendall and Sharyl Ingram; a foster daughter, Sherry Smith of Bend; two brothers, Rueben Maier of Eugene and Lee Maier of Dexter; and 17 grandchildren.

JoAnn (Odom) Wilson
Feb. 12, 1938 - April 2, 2002
JoAnn (Odom) Wilson of Bend died April 2 due to an illness. She was 64.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at First Missionary Baptist Church in Bend.
Mrs. Wilson was born Feb. 12, 1938, in Cortez, Colo., to Lewis and Mary Odom. She married
Larry Wilson on June 26, 1954, in Twin Falls, Idaho.
She moved to Bend in 1974. She was the co-owner and office manager for Bend Cabinets and Fixtures.
Mrs. Wilson was a member of the Ladies of Orion Greens. She enjoyed reading, yard work, golfing, antiques and spending time with her children and grandchildren.
Survivors include her husband of Bend; two sons, Kelly of Bend and Chris of Redmond; a daughter, JoDene Scott of Bend; mother of Goodyear, Ariz.; three brothers, Allen Odom of Soldatna, Alaska, Norman Odom of Goodyear, Ariz., and Randy Odom of Buckeye, Ariz.; two sisters, Jeanette Sullinger and Margie Pool, both of Sun City, Ariz.; seven grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her father and three brothers.

Nora A. Michie
June 10, 1925 - March 20, 2002
Nora A. Michie of La Mirada, Calif., died March 20 of natural causes. She was 76.
A service was held.
Miss Michie was born June 10, 1925, in Redmond to Andrew and Katherine (Brickev) Michie. She graduated from Redmond Union High School in 1943.
She worked as a secretary for a Bend-to-Portland trucking company. She then worked as a secretary for Freightways Trucking in Redmond. She moved to Seattle and continued working for Freightways Trucking until retiring. She moved to La Mirada, Calif., in 2001 to be near family.
Miss Michie enjoyed knitting and watching television.
Survivors include her twin sister, Dora Baker of Wilmington, Calif.
She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers and a sister.
Isabel (O'Neil) Mack
Nov. 19, 1948 - March 27, 2002
Isabel (O'Neil) Mack of Bend died March 27 of cancer. She was 53.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at Deschutes Memorial Gardens.

Shirley Marie (Kinney) Starnes
May 15, 1937 - April 14, 2002
Shirley Marie (Kinney) Starnes of Terrebonne died Sunday after an extended illness. She was 64.
A viewing will be held from 9 a.m. to noon Thursday at Deschutes Memorial Funeral Home. A funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at Newport Avenue Church of Christ with Pastor Dean Catlett officiating.
Mrs. Starnes was born May 15, 1937, in Ontario. She graduated from Culver High School. She married
Ronald Starnes on Sept. 2, 1956, in Vale.
She was a homemaker. She lived in Central Oregon for 45 years. She worked as a switchboard operator at Central Oregon District Hospital from 1985 to 1988.
Mrs. Starnes was affiliated with the Newport Avenue Church of Christ and was involved in the ladies group. She enjoyed cooking and spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren.
Survivors include her husband of Terrebonne; a son, Craig of Terrebonne; two daughters, Cindy Rainforth of Oregon City and Tammy Bennett of Gladstone; two brothers, Walden Kinney of Ontario and Wayne Kinney of Vale; a sister, Roberta Barrie of Vale; and 14 grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her daughter, parents and a granddaughter.
