Donald John Kennedy

Donald John Kennedy of Bend died Tuesday of natural causes. He was 82.
A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m., Friday, Aug. 20, at Whispering Winds Retirement Home in Bend on Friday.
Mr. Ken-nedy was born Jan. 12, 1922, in Chicago to Earl and May (Green) Kennedy. He grew up on the north side of Chicago and graduated from Lane Technical High School in 1940.
He was a decorated U.S. Navy veteran of World War II, participating in the South Pacific amphibious campaign. After the war, Mr. Kennedy graduated from the University of Maryland and was the charter president of the Delta Tau Delta fraternity.
Mr. Kennedy married
Joan Dorris Jans on October 30, 1943, at Levere Memorial Temple in Evanston, Ill.
He worked in the insurance sales industry and retired from Standard Insurance Company in 1984.
Mr. Kennedy served in a number of volunteer positions, including Lt. District Governor for the Atlanta area Lions Club, and Sight & Hearing Chairman for the Corvallis Lions Club. He also was active in the Kiwanis Club, Kiwanis Foundation and Meals-on-Wheels in Corvallis.
Mr. Kennedy was Kiwanian of the Year in 1987-88 for the Corvallis club, past president and on the board of the Corvallis Kiwanis Foundation for a number of years, and most recently helped establish and coordinate an innovative grab bar installation program for the elderly.
Mr. Kennedy served on the Board of Trustees and was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Corvallis and the Isaac Walton League.
He enjoyed fishing.
Survivors include his wife, Joan of Bend; a son, James of Atlanta; four daughters, Lyndall Bongiorno of Tillamook, Diedre Clayton of Atlanta, Janis McKeown and Jennifer Cardwell of Bend; two brothers, David and Richard, both of Palm Springs, Calif.; eight grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Corvallis Kiwanis Foundation or Oregon Lions Eye Bank Program.

Leslie Renee McNeill
June 2, 1963 - Aug. 14, 2004
Leslie Renee McNeill of Bend died Saturday of natural causes. She was 41.
A celebration of life will be held from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 19, at 61150 Echo Hollow Road, Bend. A memorial service will be held in Monument at a later date.
Ms. McNeill was born June 2, 1963, in Gresham to Dean and Patricia Mann. She graduated from Sandy High School and attended Central Oregon Community College. She married
Mike McNeill.
She worked as a bookkeeper at Donner Flower Shop for 10 years.
Her interests included golfing, bowling, snow-skiing, going on cruises and spending time with her friends and family.
Survivors include her brother, Lynn Mann of Dayton.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society or the Humane Society.

Josephine Rosalie Fowler
March 20, 1923 - Aug. 16, 2004
Josephine Rosalie Fowler of Prineville died Monday of natural causes. She was 81.
No services are planned.
Mrs. Fowler was born March 20, 1923, in Camano Island, Wash., to Ed and Lottie (Kinney) Regnier.
She was a homemaker and a mother.
Survivors include her son Bill Wilson of Quincy, Wash.; three daughters, Bonnie Mertz of Port Ludlow, Wash., Charlotte Tucker of Belfair, Wash., Betty Rutledge of Port Orchard, Wash.; a brother, Henry Regnier of Prineville; a sister, Leonora Childers of Prineville; seven grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

Mary Faye Wolf
April 14, 1915 - Aug. 15, 2004
Mary Faye Wolf of Redmond died Sunday of natural causes. She was 89.
A graveside service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 21, at Redmond Memorial cemetery.
Mrs. Wolf was born April 14, 1915, in Reith to Raymond and Hilda (Hopper) Hutsell. She grew up in the Eugene area and graduated from Santa Clara High School.
She moved to Los Angeles in 1943 and married
Charles Wolf on Aug. 10, 1945, in Wichita, Kan.
Mrs. Wolf worked making airplanes for Cal-Flyers in Los Angeles during World War II. She later was a homemaker.
Mrs. Wolf taught china-painting classes for ceramic shops while in Los Angeles. She moved to Redmond in 1976.
She enjoyed raising cattle, growing flowers and spending time with her family.
Survivors include her son, Jack Woods of Grants Pass; a daughter, Judy Jeffery of Redmond; a sister, Doris Hutsell of Terrebonne; six grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Hospice of Redmond, Sisters and Grant County.

Barbara L. Porter
May 5, 1934 - Aug. 12, 2004
Barbara L. Porter of Klamath Falls died Aug. 12 of natural causes. She was 70.
A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 19, at Williamson River Indian Mission in Chiloquin.
Ms. Porter was a substance abuse counselor for social services and an enrolled member of the Klamath Tribes.
She enjoyed arts and crafts and spending time with her grandchildren.
Survivors include her son, Michael Sollars of Redding, Calif.; three daughters, Debbie Sollars of Hawaii, Kym Crawford of Shingletown, Calif., and Kellie Stewart of Lake Havasu City, Ariz.; a brother, Dick Porter of Klamath Falls; a sister, Bev Moltzau of Prineville; three grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Rose E. Bachand
Feb. 12, 1913 - Aug. 14, 2004
Rose E. Bachand of Prineville died Saturday of natural causes. She was 91.
A rosary will be held at 7 p.m. Friday, Aug. 20, at Prineville Funeral Home. A mass will be said at 10 a.m., Saturday, Aug. 21 at St. Joseph's Catholic Church.
Mrs. Bachand was born Feb. 12, 1913, in Council, Idaho, to William and Louisa (Uselding) Freehafer. She graduated from Council High School in 1929 and from the University of Idaho in 1938.
She married
Emile Bachand on Jan. 28, 1939, in Moscow, Idaho.
Mrs. Bachand taught high school in Grangeville, Idaho, and was also a social worker in Yakima, Wash. She moved to Prineville in 1956 and worked as a reporter for the Central Oregon Newspaper in Prineville. She later worked as a teacher's aide at Crook County High School and as an assistant librarian for the Crook County Library.
Mrs. Bachand worked at Emile Bachand Civil Engineering until her retirement in 1987. She moved to Oregon City in 1999.
She was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Prineville and loved the outdoors.
Survivors include her three sons, W. Julian of Sacramento, Calif., Bernard of Silverton, and Michael of Folsom, Calif.; and a daughter, Susan McDermott of Prineville.
She was preceded in death by her husband and a brother.

Weona Rose Schrunk
Nov. 1, 1920 - Oct. 6, 2004
Weona Rose Schrunk of Redmond died Wednesday of natural causes. She was 83.
A private service will be held.
Ms. Schrunk was born Nov. 1 1920, in Grandview, to Joseph and Mary (Henninger) Snyder.
She was raised and educated in Central Oregon. She worked at the Central Oregon Hospital for 12 years. Ms. Schrunk enjoyed gardening, sewing and cooking.
Survivors include a son, Terry of Redmond; a brother, Cecil Snyder of Omaha, Neb.; three sisters, Rose Clark of Orangevale, Calif., Juanita Wilson of Carmichal, Calif., and Phyllis Wells of Redmond; four grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
She was preceded in death by a daughter and a brother.

Jerry G. Shannon
March 4, 1932 - Oct. 5, 2004
Jerry G. Shannon of Portland died Tuesday. He was 72.
A memorial mass will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, Oct. 9, at St. Rita's Catholic Church, 10029 NE Prescott, Portland.
Mr. Shannon was born March 4, 1932, in Portland. He married
Sherry Pillette in 1952.
Mr. Shannon lived in Redmond for 18 years. He worked in truck delivery for Widing Transportation and R.A. Hatch Contruction. He also worked as head mechanic for Blue Line Transportation.
Survivors include his wife; two sons, Jerry and Jim; two daughters, Marilee Patrick and Deidre Frasier; a sister, Charlene Burns; nine grandchildren and a great-grandchild.

Mary A. (Wells) McGinnis
June 15, 1919 - Nov. 18, 2004
Mary A. (Wells) McGinnis of La Pine died Thursday of natural causes. She was 85.
A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m., Wednesday, Nov. 24, at Baird Memorial Chapel, 16468 Finley Butte Road, La Pine.
Mrs. Mc-Ginnis was born on June 15, 1919, in Portland to William and Anna Marie (Nonken) Wells. She grew up in Hillsboro and Portland. She married
James McGinnis on Oct. 20, 1942.
Mrs. McGinnis was a homemaker. She enjoyed quilting and was a member of a quilting club. She was a past member of the Long Beach Gems and Mineral Society in California. Mrs. McGinnis was mechanically inclined and repaired vehicles.
Survivors include her two sons, Mark McGinnis of La Pine and David Wilder; three daughters, Jeri McGinnis of La Pine, Linda McGinnis of Hillsboro and Julie Wilder of Farmington, N.M.; and one grandchild.
She was preceded in death by her husband and a son.
