Rory Steven Anderson of La Pine died May 23. He was 47.

A private service will be held.

Mr. Anderson was born April 4, 1956, in Portland to Raymond and Alice (Murray) Anderson. He graduated from Rex Putnam High School in 1974.

He worked as a musician.

Mr. Anderson enjoyed playing the guitar and fishing.

Survivors include his mother of La Pine; and a sister, Rae Lynn Holzapfel of Corvallis.

He was preceded in death by his father, brother and grandparents.

Deschutes Memorial Chapel is in charge of arrangements.

Marjorie Ann Mitchem
Dec. 2, 1926 - May 22, 2003

Marjorie Ann Mitchem of Bend died May 22. She was 76.

A private service will be held.

Mrs. Mitchem was born Dec. 2, 1926, in Neodesha, Kan., to Louis and Goldia Berrigan. She married Don Mitchem on May 23, 1945.

She was a homemaker.

Mrs. Mitchem enjoyed gardening and raising roses.

Survivors include her husband; four daughters, Mandy Modin of Bend, Beth Brooksher of Boston, Mass., Becky Reid of Phoenix, Ariz., and Carla Richmond of La Pine; two brothers, Louis Berrigan Jr. of Safford, Ariz., and Mike Berrigan of Colorado Springs, Colo.; six grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Deschutes Memorial Chapel is in charge of arrangements.

Shirley Anne Staley
Feb. 10, 1927 - May 26, 2003

Shirley Anne Staley of Stayton died Monday of complications from surgery. She was 76.

A wake service will be held at 7 p.m. today at St. Mary Parish Center in Shaw. A mass of Christian burial will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at St. Mary Church in Shaw.

Mrs. Staley was born Feb. 10, 1927, in Bend to William and Agnes (Parker) Krog. She moved to Prineville in 1938. She attended Crook County High School where she lettered in basketball and tennis. She graduated from CCHS in 1945.

She married Vernon Staley on June 11, 1949, in Prineville. They moved to Salem in 1955 and to Stayton in 1956.

Mrs. Staley was a volunteer for the St. Mary Grade School and Immaculate Conception Parish. She was a den mother for Cub Scouts and a Brownie troop leader. Most recently she was a campground host at Memaloose State Park. Mrs. Staley was an avid sports fan and enjoyed watching the Green Bay Packers and Chicago Cubs.

Survivors include her husband; two sons, Anton of Green Bay, Wis., and William of West St. Paul, Minn.; a daughter, Victoria of Belgrade, Mont.; and two grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. Mary Church in Shaw.

Virgil T. Golden Funeral Service in Salem is in charge of arrangements.

Glenn William Wilson
Dec. 25, 1914 - May 18, 2003

Glenn William Wilson of Redmond died May 18 of injuries sustained from a fall. He was 88.

A private service will be held.

Mr. Wilson was born Dec. 25, 1914, in Brownsville, Calif., to Alva and Lulu May Wilson. He was raised and educated in Riverside, Calif. He married Clemrussell Vanderpool on June 20, 1936, in Yuma, Ariz.

He served in the Navy during World War II as a seabee.

Mr. Wilson worked in the manufactured homes sales industry. After retiring, he moved to Crooked River Ranch.

He was a member of the Elks Lodge.

Mr. Wilson enjoyed traveling, gardening and spending time with family and friends.

Survivors include his two sons, Roger of Mead, Wash., and Bruce of Dubai, United Arab Emirates; a daughter, Valerie Ferris of Redmond; a brother, Friend of southern California; a sister, Mary McNair of southern California; 10 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife.

David 'Dave' Burke Leslie
Sept. 8, 1952 - May 26, 2003

David "Dave" Burke Leslie of Bend died Monday of melanoma. He was 50.

A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. June 8 at Aspen Hall in Bend.

Mr. Leslie was born Sept. 8, 1952, in Bronxville, N.Y., to William and Georgie (Burke) Leslie. He married Nancy Burnett on June 2, 2001, in Bend.

He served in the Army from 1972 to 1974. He earned an undergraduate degree from Humboldt State University and graduated from the University of California, Santa Cruz, with a master's degree in geology in 1981.

Mr. Leslie began his career as a county geologist before moving to Bend in 1989. He worked as a long-range land use planner for Deschutes County.

He enjoyed camping, sailing, music and the arts. He enjoyed performing in and attending local theater productions. He was also an avid sports fan.

Mr. Leslie served on the Bend Outdoor Lighting Committee. He was also a volunteer for the Mount Bachelor National Ski Patrol. He founded the High Desert Fencing Club and was a founding member of the Deschutes Basin Land Trust.

Survivors include his wife of Bend; a son, Joshua of Portland; a stepdaughter, Katrina Hirschman of Bend; his mother of San Diego; a brother, William III of Lake Bluff, Ill.; and two sisters, Meredith Costa of Riverside, Conn., and Karen McKay of Reno, Nev.

He was preceded in death by his father.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Deschutes Basin Land Trust, 760 NW Harriman St., Suite 100, Bend 97701.

Norman Richard Nielsen
April 6, 1937 - May 25, 2003

Norman Richard Nielsen of Crooked River Ranch died Sunday. He was 66.

A visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at Prineville Funeral Home. A celebration of life service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Ranch Chapel in Crooked River Ranch.

Mr. Nielsen was born April 6, 1937, in Portland to Christian and Inga Nielsen. He grew up in Portland and graduated from Franklin High School in 1955. He attended Portland Community College for two years where he studied drafting. He married Carol Channer. He later married Nancy Barry on Oct. 20, 1994, in Laughlin, Nev.

Mr. Nielsen worked for Blake Moffitt, Towne and Unisource Corporation as a paper salesman for 35 years. He retired in 1999 and moved to Crooked River Ranch.

He was affiliated with the Ranch Chapel. Mr. Nielsen was also a member of the National Guard, Oregon City Elks, Redmond Moose Lodge, Crooked River Lions Club and the High Desert Road Runners RV club. He was also a past member of the Riverside Kiwanis club.

His hobbies included golfing, collecting cars, boating, camping and fishing. He also enjoyed traveling in his RV and dogs.

Survivors include his wife of Crooked River Ranch; two sons, Lonnie of Prineville and Jerry of Temecula, Calif.; a stepson, James Botts of Milwaukie; a daughter, Connie Perala of Tualatin; a stepdaughter, Megan Michie of Crooked River Ranch; and 11 grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his son and parents.

Lillian M. Tomes
Feb. 11, 1922 - May 25, 2003

Lillian M. Tomes of Redmond died Sunday of natural causes. She was 81.

No service will be held per her request.

Mrs. Tomes was born Feb. 11, 1922, in Detroit to Charles and Mildred Surini.

She worked in the automobile industry in Detroit. She moved to Redmond in 1982.

Mrs. Tomes enjoyed traveling, music and gardening.

Survivors include her son, Allen; a special friend, Sharron Troutman; and three grandsons.

Autumn Funerals is in charge of arrangements.

Daniel Beryl Farlow Jr.
Jan. 23, 1947 - May 24, 2003

Daniel Beryl Farlow Jr. of Bend died May 24 of natural causes. He was 56.

A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at Pilot Butte cemetery.

Mr. Farlow was born Jan. 23, 1947, in Portland to Orin and Mabel (Roberts) Farlow. He grew up in Prineville. He married Linda Adams on June 12, 1971, in Prineville.

He joined the International Laborers Union in 1967 and retired in December of 2002. He traveled with various companies in the construction trade before settling in Bend 27 years ago. He was the owner of Far Child Construction and Weatherization Co. for six years and for the last year was the owner of Danny B's Homemade Candies of Sisters.

His hobbies included backpacking, playing video games, home activities and dancing. He especially enjoyed spending time with his family. Mr. Farlow was a skilled carpenter and craftsman and enjoyed laughter and playing jokes.

Survivors include his wife of Bend; two sons, Brandon and Shane, both of Bend; his mother of Redmond; two sisters, Dorothy McPhetridge of Redmond and Donna of Portland; and a granddaughter.

He was preceded in death by his father and a sister.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Doernbecher Burn Center.

Deschutes Memorial Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
