Ida Jewel (Hamilton) Evans

Ida Jewell (Hamilton) Evans of Bend died Tuesday of natural causes. She was 80.
A graveside service will be held at 1 p.m. Friday at Powell Butte cemetery.
Mrs. Evans was born April 2, 1922, in Owasso, Okla., to Robert and Bertha (Neely) Hamilton. She married
Haskell Evans on Jan. 20, 1941.
She worked as a cook for the smoke jumpers facility in Redmond for several years. She then worked at COCAAN for 20 years providing in-home care for senior citizens.
Mrs. Evans enjoyed helping others.
Survivors include her sons, Ronald and Walter; two daughters, NellDeen and Shanin; one sister, Pauline Gilliland; grandchildren; and great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, eight brothers and a grandchild.

Lois Marie Shetler
March 16, 1930 - Dec. 1, 2002
Lois Marie Shetler of Wamic died Sunday of leukemia. She was 72.
A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday at Madras Conservative Baptist Church.
Mrs. Shetler was born March 16, 1930, in Iowa City, Iowa to Jacob and Mary (Buckwalter) Roth. She married
Eldon Shetler on Dec. 21, 1950 in Hubbard.
She was a homemaker.
Mrs. Shetler was affiliated with the Mennonite Church.
She enjoyed practicing her faith, sewing and her family.
Survivors include her husband of Wamic; 10 children; two brothers, James Roth of Woodburn and Samuel Roth of Winston; two sisters, Rosanna Roth of Woodburn and Ruth Georgiades of Riverside, Calif.; 32 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a brother and a sister.

Agatha Bateham
Dec. 23, 1906 - Nov. 10, 2004
Agatha Bateham of Redmond died Wednesday of natural causes. She was 97.
Private services will be held.
Ms. Bateham was born Dec. 23, 1906, in Hurley, Wis., to Mike and Hellen Rudofske.
Ms. Bateman worked as a clerk for the Washington County Assessor's office, until her retirement in 1996. She was a charter member of the Aloha Rebecca Lodge and attended the Aloha Bethleham Lutheran Church. She enjoyed woodworking, oil painting and crafts.
She is survived by a daughter, Patricia Brickey of Redmond; three grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a son.

Inez Rogers Vradenburg

Inez Rogers Vradenburg of Bend died Wednesday of natural causes. She was 94.
Mrs. Vradenburg was born Oct. 27, 1910, in Los Angeles, to John and Ora (Clark) Rogers. She married
Thomas Vrandenburg on Aug. 31, 1929, in Los Angeles.
Mrs. Vradenburg was a homemaker. She served as an inspector for the election board in Los Angeles. She was a member of the Girl Scouts and served as the secretary for the Women's Club of Kagel Canyon. She enjoyed attending sporting events and spending time with her family.
Survivors include two sons, Dick of Bishop, Calif. and John of Hayden Lake, Idaho; two daughters, Sharon Nye of Bend and Janet Green of Cedar City, Utah; 13 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren and 11 great-great grandchildren.

Irene Mae Partin

Irene Mae Partin of Bend died Nov. 27 of natural causes. She was 83.
A visitation will be held from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday at Prineville Funeral Home. A graveside service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at Juniper Haven cemetery.
Mrs. Partin was born Dec. 27, 1918, in Lone Rock to Guy and Bessie (Compton) Houk. She attended school in Redmond. She married
Tom Partin Sr. on May 25, 1937 in Bend.
She worked in several logging camps and communities in Oregon, including Endicott logging camp on Marks Creek. She also worked at Joe's East Side Market.
Mrs. Partin was affiliated with the Foursquare Church, Elks Club and Eagles Club in Prineville and the Moose Lodge in Roseburg.
She enjoyed reading, hunting, fishing and spending time with her family.
Survivors include her son, Tom Jr. of Lake Oswego; two daughters, Judy Walter of Bend and Joyce Houston of New Plymouth, Idaho; one brother, Don Houk of Tokyo, Japan; one sister, Patsy Farquhar of Houser Lake, Idaho; nine grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
She was preceded in death by her husband and parents.

Robert William Alfrey
June 16, 1937 - Nov. 29, 2002
Robert William Alfrey of Medford died Friday. He was 65.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at Perl Funeral Home in Medford.
Mr. Alfrey was born June 16, 1937, in Bend to Carl and Margaret (Gill) Alfrey. He attended Bend High School and the University of Oregon. He married
Cindy Blue on Nov. 16, 2000.
He was in the Army Reserve.
Mr. Alfrey was vice president of the Croman Corporation.
He was affiliated with several community, charitable and civic organizations.
Mr. Alfrey enjoyed chess, golf and cribbage. He also enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. He was an avid reader and liked to write.
Survivors include his wife of Medford; three sons, Brad, Brian and Bob; one sister, June Miller; and four grandchildren.

Carol Danette Wilbur

Carol Danette Wilbur of Bend died Nov. 28 of a heart attack while visiting her family in California. She was 62.
A memorial service will be held at 6:30 p.m. today at the Seventh Day Adventist Church in Bend.
Mrs. Wilbur was born Oct. 31, 1940, in San Diego, Calif., to Daniel and Maxine (Stewart) Nelson. She married
David Wilbur in California.
She was an administrative assistant in the advertising department at The Bulletin.
Mrs. Wilbur was affiliated with the Seventh Day Adventist Church and Pets in Public Places.
She enjoyed her dog and cat. She also liked working with the children at her church.
Survivors include her two stepsons, Dennis Wilbur and Donald Wilbur, both of Missouri; one stepdaughter, Vicky Clark of Missouri; her stepfather and mother, George and Maxine Allen of Riverside, Calif.; one brother George Allen of Coarse Gold, Calif.; and one sister, Darlene DeVargas of Arnold, Calif.
She was preceded in death by her husband.
Bernard William Mathews
Jan. 22, 1915 - Nov. 28, 2002
Bernard William Mathews of Bend died Thursday of natural causes. He was 87.
A memorial service will be held at 1:30 p.m. Friday at Aspen Ridge Retirement Center.
Mr. Mathews was born Jan. 22, 1915, in Garnett, Kan., to William and Inez Mathews. He graduated from high school in Medford. He married
LaVerne McCulloch on May 12, 1939, in Reno, Nev.
He served in the Navy during World War II.
Mr. Mathews worked at a private power plant in Prospect and for the Corps of Engineers at the Bonneville Power Plant. He later worked at the McNary Dam as a power house supervisor. He retired in the early 1970s.
He was affiliated with the Elks Lodge and the Masonic Lodge in Hermiston.
Mr. Mathews was an avid golfer and horseman.
He moved to Bend in 1999.
Survivors include his wife of Bend; one daughter, Suzanne Bray of Bend; four grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a daughter and his parents.
Memorial contributions may be made in his daughter Marcia Zimmerman's memory to the American Cancer Society.
