William Ignatius Buckley
Feb. 9, 1924 - May 28, 2001
William Ignatius Buckley of Bend died Monday of natural causes. He was 77.
The Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 9 a.m. Thursday at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in Bend. Burial will be held at 1:30 p.m. Friday at Willamette National cemetery in Portland.
Mr. Buckley was born Feb. 9, 1924, in Omaha, Neb. He was raised and educated in Omaha.
He served in the Navy during World War II.
He married
Betty Rose in Omaha. She preceded him in death.
Mr. Buckley was employed as a truck driver. He also played semi-professional baseball and was involved in coaching and management in Omaha.
He moved to Oregon upon retirement.
Mr. Buckley attended St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in Bend.
He enjoyed his grandchildren and was an avid fisherman.
Survivors include three daughters, Kathleen Bell of San Diego, Calif., Maureen Schmotzer of Bend and Theresa Stout of China Grove, N.C.; his mother, Theresa Whitelaw of Bend; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife and three brothers.

Mary (Rusin) Wagner
Dec. 30, 1944 - May 26, 2001
Mary (Rusin) Wagner of Prineville died Saturday of cancer. She was 56.
The Rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. Friday at Prineville Funeral Home. The Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Prineville. Burial will be held privately on the family property in Prineville.
Mrs. Wagner was born Dec. 30, 1944, in Pittsburgh, to Edward and Eva (Schwartz) Rusin. She grew up in Southern California and attended Pasadena Community College for one year.
She married
Francis Dean Wagner on Nov. 7, 1964, in El Monte, Calif.
They moved to Prineville from Seaside in 1999.
Mrs. Wagner was very active in liturgy and music at Lady of Victory Church in Seaside. She also sang in the choir at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Prineville.
She enjoyed sewing and floral arranging, and had designed and decorated two of her own homes.
Survivors include her husband, Dean of Prineville; two daughters, Anna Ward and Jennifer La Bore, both of Portland; two sons, David of Whitefish, Mont., and Christopher of Prineville; her mother, Eva Rusin of Milwaukie; and one sister, Alice Kozicki of Annadale, Va.
She was preceded in death by her father and one sister, Sally Sutton.

May G. (Gill) McRae
March 14, 1910 - May 29, 2001
May G. (Gill) McRae of Bend died Tuesday at a local assisted living facility. She was 91.
The memorial service will be held at 1:30 p.m. Sunday at the United Methodist Church in Fossil. Pastor Tim Novak will officiate. Inurnment was held at Antelope cemetery.
Mrs. McRae was born March 14, 1910, in Dufur, to Francis and Iva (Dale) Gill.
She grew up there. She attended and graduated from high school in The Dalles. She then attended the University of Oregon and completed her teaching credentials in Monmouth.
She moved to Clarno and taught five students in a one-room schoolhouse.
She married
Donald McRae on Jan. 10, 1935, in The Dalles. He died in 1960.
Mrs. McRae later moved to Fossil, where she worked for the county school district as a clerk until returning to college. She attended Eastern Oregon State College and earned her bachelor of science degree in library science. She then taught in Fossil until retiring in 1977.
She was an active community member and served on the city budget committee as well as serving as a senior representative on the scholarship committee, and she was a member of the community club and Rebekah Lodge. She also served as a church treasurer at United Methodist Church in Fossil for more than 30 years.
Mrs. McRae enjoyed reading, especially to children. She also enjoyed gardening, cats and painting.
Survivors include two daughters, Marianne Mathews of Gazelle, Calif., and Alison Nidever of Aloha; one sister, Alice Morgan of Dallasport, Wash.; seven grandchildren; and numerous great-grandchildren.
Memorial contributions may be made to Fossil United Methodist Church or to a charity of one's choice.

Dorothy I. (Coats) Smith
March 29, 1920 - May 24, 2001
Dorothy I. (Coats) Smith of Bend died Thursday of natural causes in her home. She was 81.
A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday at Trinity Episcopal Church. Burial of her remains will be done at a later date in Victor, Iowa.
Mrs. Smith was born March 29, 1920, in Victor, Iowa, to Noel and Verna Coats. She graduated from the University of Iowa with a degree in nursing.
She served as a Lt. Commander in the U.S. Navy during World War II from 1942 to 1945. She was stationed in the states and Pearl Harbor.
Mrs. Smith worked as a nurse in the Navy, a nurse stewardess, a substitute public school nurse in northern Illinois, and after moving to Bend she became a registered nurse at St. Charles Medical Center from 1975 to 1982.
She married
Stanley Smith in 1948. He died in October of 1993.
Mrs. Smith was an active member of Trinity Episcopal Church and Lady Veterans of the Navy.
She enjoyed genealogy, doing her arthritic exercises at Juniper Pool, as well as gardening, cooking and baking.
Survivors include her daughter, Pamela of Bend; her son, Stephan of Eugene; one step-son, Stanley of Florida; three brothers, David, Richard and Douglas Coats; and two grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, one brother and one sister.

Lethia Lorene (Berry) Larson
July 5, 1924 - May 24, 2001
Lethia Lorene (Berry) Larson, a long-time resident of Central Oregon, died at her home in Redmond of natural causes on Thursday. She was 76.
Visitation will be held from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Thursday at Autumn Funerals in Redmond. Recitation of the Rosary will be at 7 p.m. Thursday and funeral mass will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, both at St. Thomas Catholic Church in Redmond. Private entombment will follow at the Deschutes Memorial Gardens. A reception will be following the mass at the Terrebonne Grange.
Mrs. Larson was born July 5, 1924, in Compton, Calif., to Richard and Lethia (Gambill) Berry. She married
James Larson in 1941 and they moved to Central Oregon in 1950; they lived in La Pine and Terrebonne. He died Feb. 15, 1983.
She enjoyed fishing, camping and gardening.
Survivors include two sons, James of Redmond and Richard of Bend; three daughters, Connie Beaulac of Scappoose, Sherri Skidgel of Bend and Bonnie Nordman of Bend; four sisters, Irene Pavlik of Calif., Burlene Platt of Grants Pass, Evylon Maze of Lakeside and Eeleanor Stivens of Pahrump, Nev.; 23 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.

Hank Cisco
Feb. 14, 1934 - April 24, 2001
Hank Cisco of Terrebonne died April 24 in Biloxi, Miss. He was 67.
A celebration of life tribute service will be held at 11 a.m. June 2 at Deschutes Memorial Funeral Home Chapel in Bend.
Mr. Cisco was born Feb. 14, 1934, in Jerusalem, N.Y., to Leon and Beatrice Cisco. He grew up in Brownsville, N.Y.
He retired from the Navy after 20 years and had served in the Vietnam and Korean wars. He lived in Camarillo, Calif., before moving to Terrebonne 18 years ago.
Mr. Cisco was a member of the Redmond Volunteer Fire Department and was an EMT 1 ambulance driver.
Survivors include his wife, Jacqui of Terrebonne; three daughters, Deborah and Dawn, both of New York, and Connie Sue of La Pine; two sons, Douglas of Redmond and Donald of New York; five stepdaughters, Cheryl Collins and LaDonna Shaw, both of California, Rebecca Peterson of Boise, Idaho, and Denise Lewis and Mariana Turnbull, both of Salem; two stepsons, Donald and Kelly Collins, both of California; one sister, Beverly Wilkie of Clarkstown, N.Y.; 22 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Alberta.

Faye V. Stark
Aug. 28, 1923 - May 23, 2001
Faye V. Stark of Bend died Wednesday at her home. She was 77.
A private celebration of life service will be held. Private family inurnment will take place later this summer.
Mrs. Stark was born Aug. 28, 1923, in Foss, Okla. She graduated from high school in Oklahoma and, while in school, was a gospel singer. She also won the 1941 Oklahoma State typing contest.
She married
Harold Stark in 1965, in Carson City, Nev. He died in 1983.
Mrs. Stark was a waitress and cook for most of her working years until retiring in 1995.
She enjoyed her family, sewing, camping and gambling.
Survivors include one son, Andy Gay of Helena, Mont.; three daughters, Rita Willis and Tonya Windolph, both of Bend, and Cathy Stark of Fairfax, Calif.; three sisters, Jackie Ford and Neet Johnson, both of Fresno, Calif., and Jewel Rhodes of Bakersfield, Calif.; one brother, Dee Reeder of Hanford, Calif.; 13 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
She was preceded in death by her parents and 10 siblings.

Richard Curtis Haney
March 18, 1925 - May 24, 2001
Richard Curtis Haney of Bend died of natural causes Thursday. He was 76.
The memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday at First Lutheran Church in Bend.
Mr. Haney was born March 18, 1925, in International Falls, Minn., to Frank and Grace (Heritage) Haney. His early education was in Ray, Minn., and he later graduated as a forester from the University of Minnesota in 1954.
He served in World War II and in the Korean War.
He married
Lois J. Kilde on June 4, 1948, in International Falls.
They came to the Ochoco Ranger Station after his graduation from college, where he worked as a forester for the U.S. Forest Service. They moved around the northwest and returned to Bend in 1969.
Mr. Haney was a member of First Lutheran Church in Bend, the Society of American Foresters, and Toastmasters.
He was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hiking, backpacking, trapping, snowshoeing, hunting and fishing.
Survivors include his wife, Lois of Bend; three sons, Steven and Keith, both of Bend, and Loren of Oregon City; two daughters, Jan Prickett of Austin, Texas, and Jill Haney Osborn of San Antonio, Texas; five brothers, Harry of Orville, Wash., Francis and Robert, both of Ray, James of Elepant, Minn., and Chester of Pashitin, Wash.; three sisters, Ann Olson of Omak, Wash., Winnie Barker of Oroville, Wash., and Laura Hepp of Yakima, Wash.; eight grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
He was preceded in death by a brother and a sister.
