Ray 'Dink' Rhodes

Ray 'Dink' Rhodes of Bend died Sunday of natural causes. He was 71.
Viewing will be held from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. today at Niswonger, Reynolds & Tabor Funeral Home in Bend. A graveside service will be held at 12 p.m. Monday at Greenwood cemetery.
Mr. Rhodes was born Nov. 29, 1925, in Pitcher, Okla.
He worked in construction and built homes. He also worked as a meat cutter.
He married
Lova Richards in 1976, in Las Vegas, Nev.
Mr. Rhodes lived in Bend since 1976.
He enjoyed watching wildlife programs, cutting wood, baking, bowling and swimming.
Survivors include his wife, Lova of Bend; six sons, Michael, William, John, and Ray Jr., all of Las Vegas, Ora of Fremont, Calif., and Cary of Seoul, South Korea; six daughters, Ethel Rhodes, Lela Rhodes and Mariella Mathiasen, all of Las Vegas, Margie of Phoenix, Ariz., Raygenia of Gray, La., and Panna of Bend; and two sisters, Patricia Vandehey and Ora Anderson, both of Bend.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Vernon.

Juanita 'Nita' (Kennedy) Hollandsworth
Oct. 16, 1921 - May 29, 2001
Juanita 'Nita' (Kennedy) Hollandsworth of Bend died Tuesday. She was 79.
A funeral will be held at 3 p.m. today at The Summit Assisted Living Center.
Mrs. Hollandsworth was born Oct. 16, 1921, in Elkhart, Kan.
She married
Dale Hollandsworth on June 12, 1943.
They have lived in Bend for 25 years.
Mrs. Hollandsworth was a homemaker and beautician.
She was a longtime grange and Elks member as well as an active member of the Bend Senior Center. She was also a Degree of Honor member.
Survivors include her husband, Dale of Bend; one son, Jim of Boardman; one daughter, Linda Roberts of Eagle River, Alaska; two brothers, Wayne Kennedy of Twin Falls, Idaho and Lauerence Kennedy of Sharon Springs, Kan.; six grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.

Wava Lucille (Bass) Wilson
May 3, 1928 - May 29, 2001
Wava Lucille (Bass) Wilson of Bend died Tuesday of natural causes. She was 73.
A graveside service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at Greenwood cemetery in Bend.
Mrs. Wilson was born May 3, 1928, in Yamhill to Clarence and Hazel (Garrison) Bass. She grew up in Oregon.
She married
James Wilson on Feb. 7, 1946, in Stayton.
They moved to Bend in 1947.
Survivors include her husband, James of Bend; one son, James 'Mike' of Bend; one daughter, Debra deCarne of Bend; three brothers, Norton Bass, Charles Bass and Clifford Schmidling, all of Central Oregon; two sisters, Juanita Atchison of Redmond and Darlene Anderson of Plush; four grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, two daughters, two brothers and two sisters.

Eileen Doris (Evans) DeGaton
May 16, 1926 - May 27, 2001
Eileen Doris (Evans) DeGaton of La Pine died Sunday of natural causes. She was 75.
At the family's request, there will be no service held.
Ms. DeGaton was born May 16, 1926, in Detroit, Mich.
She married
Jim DeGaton on Sept. 10, 1949. He preceded her in death.
Ms. DeGaton was employed as a teller in a credit union. She lived in La Pine for 12 years.
She enjoyed fishing, camping, traveling and flower gardening. She is survived by her companion, Bob Pittaway of La Pine.

Dolores Helen (Sargent) Bixel
Jan. 6, 1933 - May 24, 2001
Dolores Helen (Sargent) Bixel of Redmond died May 24 of natural causes. She was 68.
Mrs. Bixel was born Jan. 6, 1933, in Grand Junction, Colo., to Elbert and Helen (Turner) Sargent. She grew up and attended school in Grand Junction, and then moved to San Gabrial, Calif., in 1942, where she graduated from high school. The family moved to Elendorf Air Base in Alaska in 1950.
She married
Jerry Simpler in Alaska and they had one child.
Mrs. Bixel then moved to Omaha, Neb., and later moved back to California in 1954, where she worked as a secretary for McClary Corp.
She then married
Russ Neaterour and they had three children.
She married
Keith Bixel in the late 1970s. He preceded her in death.
They lived in Prineville, Salem, and then Waldport. Mrs. Bixel later moved to Redmond to be near her family.
She enjoyed painting, landscaping, bingo, gardening, reading and her grandchildren.
Survivors include two daughters, Beth Wright of Redmond and Jeri Lynn Cesani of New Mexico; two sons, Tim and Michael Neaterour, both of Redmond; two sisters, JoAnn Woverton and Audrey Dunn, both of Prineville; nine grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
She was preceded in death by her husband and parents.

George A. Goshert Jr.
April 1, 1947 - May 23, 2001
George A. Goshert Jr. of Bend died as a result of a motor vehicle accident May 23. He was 54.
The memorial service will be held at 2:30 p.m. Saturday at the Mountain View High School auditorium. The graveside service and inurnment will be held at a later date in Hummelstown, Pa.
Mr. Goshert was born April 1, 1947, in Harrisburg, Pa., to George and Fern (Duncan) Goshert. He grew up in Hummelstown and graduated from Hershey High School. He graduated from Drexel University with a bachelor's degree in electrical engineering in 1970.
Upon graduation he was commissioned as a second lieutenant in the Army after completing the ROTC program at Drexel. He served in the Army on active duty from 1970 to 1971, then completed eight years in the Army Reserve. He was honorably discharged as a captain.
In 1966, Mr. Goshert began working for Pennsylvania Power and Light Company.
He married
Gail Kraemer on Aug. 16, 1969, in Bethlehem, Pa.
Mr. Goshert continued his career with Pennsylvania Power & Light in various locations including Allentown, Harrisburg, Honesdale and Williamsport. He also taught electrical engineering courses at Penn State University. In 1995, he took early retirement after 25 years with Pennsylvania Power & Light and moved to Bend.
In Bend, he began driving buses for Mount Bachelor. He was selected as project manager for construction of the Deschutes County Public Library in Bend. He then worked as project manager for the Deschutes County Historical Society renovation project. He also provided legal consulting services for several law firms in Washington state, as well as pro bono engineering work for nonprofit organizations in Arizona and British Columbia.
Mr. Goshert began playing the French horn in fourth grade and continued to play in various bands and orchestras in Pennsylvania. He also began singing in church and community choirs in the mid-1980s. After moving to Bend, he played for the Central Oregon Symphony and Cascade Winds Symphonic Band (Central Oregon Concert Band), sang in the Cascade Chorale, and was a ringer in the church handbell choir. He also played in the pit band at Kenwood School for various musicals.
He enjoyed fishing, hunting, boating, riding motorcycles and playing skee ball. He was also a craftsman who enjoyed working on projects with his sons, such as the construction of docks and decks.
Survivors include his wife, Gail of Bend; two sons, Bryan of Killeen, Texas, and Jason of Eugene; two sisters, Jill Martino of Middletown, Pa., and Cynthia Snyder of York, Pa.; and one brother, John of Elizabethtown, Pa.
He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers.

Alma Louise (Naebring) Cole
June 12, 1914 - May 30, 2001
Alma Louise (Naebring) Cole of La Pine died of natural causes Wednesday. She was 86.
The private graveside service will be held at Willamette Memorial Park in Albany.
Mrs. Cole was born June 12, 1914, in Akron, Ohio.
She married
Charles Cole on May 28, 1934, in Akron, Ohio. He died in 1961.
Mrs. Cole was employed as a payroll clerk at city hall.
She lived in Albany for 20 years and in La Pine for three years.
Mrs. Cole was a member of Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Albany.
She enjoyed reading, traveling and working jigsaw puzzles.
Survivors include two daughters, Janet Tapper of La Pine and Vicki Pullium of Simi, Calif.; four grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband and one son, Neal.
Memorial contributions may be made to Newberry Hospice in La Pine.
