Edith Leona (Jones) Bothwell
July 22, 1928 - March 19, 2001
Edith Leona (Jones) Bothwell of Maupin died of natural causes Monday at Ashley Manor Assisted Living. She was 72.
At her request no formal service will be held.
Mrs. Bothwell was born July 22, 1928, in Dallas, Ore., to Ed and Ruth (Smith) Jones.
She married
Wayne Bothwell on May 28, 1945, in Goldendale, Wash.
Mrs. Bothwell was a lifetime resident of Maupin. She helped her husband on their ranch.
She enjoyed traveling and then giving slide shows of her trips.
Survivors include her husband, Wayne of Maupin; two daughters, Judy Nagill of The Dalles and Cathy Dary of Puyallup, Wash.; two sisters, Nita Regner of Prineville and Florence Woodside of Maupin; five grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Juanita M. (Brownfield) Cogburn
April 18, 1940 - March 20, 2001
Juanita M. (Brownfield) Cogburn of Prineville died Tuesday of natural causes. She was 60.
Viewing will be held from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. today at Prineville Funeral Home. A funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Friday in the Heritage Chapel at Prineville Funeral Home.
Ms. Cogburn was born April 18, 1940, in Bend. She started attending school in Redmond and then moved to Prineville in 1948.
She attended Ochoco Grade School, Crook County Junior High and then graduated from Crook County High School in 1959. She then moved to Portland and attended Clark County Community College and received her nursing degree.
She worked in a Gresham Hospital for 12 to 15 years as an intervention specialist. She also worked at S.T.O.P. in downtown Portland as a drug and alcohol counselor. She retired in 1986.
Ms. Cogburn enjoyed reading, painting in oils, crocheting and cooking.
Survivors include one daughter, Barbara Ann Cogburn of Oceanside; her mother, Lucille Brownfield of Boring; and one sister, Patricia Evans of Boring.
She was preceded in death by her father, Marion Brownfield.

Norman Irwin Swanson
May 5, 1918 - March 20, 2001
Norman Irwin Swanson of Bend died Tuesday of natural causes. He was 82.
A graveside service will be held at 9 a.m. Saturday at the Redmond Memorial cemetery with a memorial service following between 11:30 a.m. and noon at Trinity Lutheran Church.
Mr. Swanson was born May 5, 1918, in Woodburn to Ingeborg Bjordal and Nils Swanson. He was a graduate of Grant High School in Portland. He graduated cum laude from the University of Portland and also attended Harvard University.
He served in the Navy in 1945 during World War II as a supply officer aboard the destroyer USS Halsey Powell. He also served in the Navy Reserve. He received an honorable discharge.
Mr. Swanson worked as a certified public accountant and then was a co-owner of Darrel Smith Insurance in Redmond. He was also a real estate broker for Northwest Ranch Brokers. He retired in 1984.
He was a member of the Redmond School Board and was also a volunteer firefighter and ambulance driver in Redmond.
Survivors include his wife, Maxine (Carter) Swanson of Bend; four daughters, Frances Greene of Hatboro, Pa., Sandy Longstreth of Fairview, Beverly Gifford of Milwaukie and Cezenne Hitchcock; three sons, Timothy McKenzie of Mundford, England, Michael McKenzie of Penn Yan, N.Y., and Cory Hitchcock of Granite Falls, Wash.; five grandchildren; and three grandchildren.

Anna M. (Jaehn) Gregory
Dec. 21, 1909 - March 19, 2001
Anna M. (Jaehn) Gregory of Bend died Monday at St. Charles Medical Center. She was 91.
A celebration of life will be held from 1 to 3 p.m. Sunday at Coho Grill on Orion Greens Golf Course at 61525 Fargo Lane in Bend, 388-3999. Private interment was held in Hood River.
Mrs. Gregory was born Dec. 21, 1909, in Boulder, Colo., to Otto and Helen Jaehn.
She married
John Gregory in 1929, in Boulder. He died in 1973.
Mrs. Gregory had lived in Colorado and California, but spent most of her life in Oregon at the coast and in Bend.
She enjoyed an active life with her family, sewing, baking and gardening. She also enjoyed being a volunteer with the St. Charles Medical Center Auxiliary.
Survivors include two daughters, Betty Ufford of Redmond and Judy Hoffman of Bend; four grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Teresa (Hershfelt) Bond
Aug. 1, 1959 - March 17, 2001
Teresa (Hershfelt) Bond of La Pine died of liver failure Saturday. She was 41.
Visitation will be held from 7 to 9 p.m. at Smith-Lund-Mills Funeral Chapel in Cottage Grove. The funeral will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday at Smith-Lund-Mills Funeral Chapel. Burial will be at Fir Grove cemetery.
Mrs. Bond was born Aug. 1, 1959, in Salem to Albert and Viola (Madison) Hershfelt. She grew up and lived in Cottage Grove until 1980. She attended Cottage Grove High School.
She married
Rick Bond on June 6, 1981, in Cottage Grove.
They moved to Corvallis in 1981, to Milton-Freewater and then back to Cottage Grove in 1985. They then moved to Chemult in 1989 and to La Pine in 1998.
Mrs. Bond worked as a retail clerk, and had been a cashier at Erickson's Sentry Market since 1998.
She was a homemaker who enjoyed spending time with family, camping and hiking.
Survivors include her husband, Rick, and two sons, David and Corey, all of La Pine; one daughter, Shanti Dolan of Sunriver; her mother, Viola Hershfelt of Cottage Grove; five sisters, Charlotte Rosenthal and Mary Pardun, both of Cottage Grove, Darlene Middleton of Alpine, Calif., Lonna Anthony of Terrebonne and Linda McAlister of Gervais; and two brothers, Don Hershfelt of Cottage Grove and Harley Hershfelt of Stayton.

Dolores 'Dee' (Wilkins) Lucio Harriss-Behm
Oct. 17, 1914 - March 12, 2001
Dolores 'Dee' (Wilkins) Lucio Harriss-Behm of Bend died March 12. She was 86.
A private memorial service was held. Burial was held at East Land Memorial Park in Sacramento, Calif.
Mrs. Harriss-Behm was born Oct. 17, 1914, in Red Bluff, Calif.
She was employed in financial services and as an investor prior to retirement.
She was a Bend resident since 1986.
Mrs. Harriss-Behm was a life master of the American Contract Bridge League.
Survivors include her husband, Edward Behm of Bend; one daughter, Jean Lucio of Houston; two sons, Richard Lucio of Sacramento, and Doane Lucio of Coral Springs, Fla.; five grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by one husband, Edgar Lucio.

Virginia L. (Graham) Eveland
Feb. 19, 1921 - March 14, 2001
Virginia L. (Graham) Eveland of Madras died March 14. She was 80.
The memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 31, at Jefferson County Senior Center.
Mrs. Eveland was born Feb. 19, 1921, in York, Neb.
She married
Howard Eveland on Dec. 21, 1940. He died in 1989.
She was a Madras resident since 1957.
Mrs. Eveland was a member of Pioneer Community Church. She was also a member of AARP, Madras Senior Center, Jefferson County Seniors, National Committee to Preserve Social Security and Medicare. She also was a Veterans of Foreign Wars supporter.
She was named Madras Senior of the Year 2001 and was chairwoman of the Commemorative Bricks for the Jefferson County Senior Center. She served on both the Central Oregon Council on Aging and the Central Oregon Wellness Team. She also drove for the Medical Escort service, was active in working with vacation Bible school for her church, and worked with the SMART program (Start Making A Reader Today). She also raised funds for Meals on Wheels.
Mrs. Eveland was named Outstanding Volunteer for 1985, 1993 and 1994 for the Madras senior center. She was also named Outstanding Volunteer for 1990 and 1993 for AARP.
She enjoyed fishing and hunting with her husband, as well as going to social gatherings, potlucks and playing bingo with her friends. She also enjoyed traveling, taking pictures and the activities that the Madras High School students provided at the senior center.
Survivors include one daughter, Carol Daulton of Boardman; one son, Arthur of Madras; one foster daughter, Eve Muir of Boise, Idaho; eight grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
Memorial contributions may be made to Jefferson County Senior Center, Meals on Wheels, or to the charity of one's choice.

Milton 'Joe' Joseph Foley
Feb. 9, 1910 - March 9, 2001
Milton 'Joe' Joseph Foley, a former Bend resident, of Belleair, Fla., died March 9 in Clearwater, Fla. He was 91.
Burial was at Oaklawn cemetery in Jacksonville, Fla.
Mr. Foley was born Feb. 9, 1910, in Kentwood, La. He was a 1933 graduate of the University of Notre Dame and had played football under Knute Rockne and later served on the Advisory Council for the College of Arts and Letters.
His entire business career had been associated with the forest products industry, starting with Foley Lumber Co. in Jacksonville. He later became president of Brooks-Scanlon Corporation in Foley, Fla. He was also an officer and/or director at many corporations, including at Brooks-Scanlon Inc. in Bend.
Survivors include his wife of 65 years, Kathryn Robuck; one daughter, Kathryn Schurz of Bloomington, Ind.;one son, Michael of Largo, Fla.; six grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
