Jesse C. Crosby
1925-2004
Jesse C. Crosby, an 18-year resident of Cottage Grove, died Oct. 24 at the age of 78 from age-related causes.
He was born to Frank and Iva Crosby in Parkman, Maine, on Dec. 23, 1925.
He married Charlene Sawyer in Cambridge, Maine, on Aug., 17, 1946.
She preceded him in death.
He also lived in Garland, Maine, and Monterrey, Calif.
He served in the United States Navy in World War II.
He worked as a laborer and construction worker.
He enjoyed woodworking, traveling and reading.
He is survived by five sons: Richard Crosby of Winslow, Maine, Randy Crosby of Monterrey, Calif., James Crosby of Cottage Grove, John Crosby of Mollala and Casey Crosby of Oregon City; his daughter: Sandra Plantz of Cottage Grove; and numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Private family services were arranged by Andreason's Cremation and Burial Service in Eugene.
Memorial Notice
Charlotte Irene Martin, 74, of Drain, died Oct. 15 from complications of surgery.
Her memorial is scheduled for Nov. 6, at 3 p.m. at the Drain Civic Center in Drain.
Irene Margaret Emery
1916-2004
Irene Margaret Emery, a life-long resident of Yoncalla, died Oct. 22, 2004, from age-related causes.
She died three hours short of her 88th birthday.
She was born to Elmer and Blanche Daugherty on Oct. 23, 1916, in Yoncalla.
She grew up and attended school in Yoncalla, graduating from Yoncalla High School and attending Northwest Bible College for three years.
She was married to Lloyd Emery in Missoula, Mont., on April 4, 1941.
She owned and operated the Gateway Inn in Drain and also worked there as a waitress.
She was a charter member of the Yoncalla Assembly of God Church and at the time of her death, she was a member of the Drain Assembly of God Church.
She moved to Florence in April to be close to family.
She is survived by her husband, Lloyd Emery, of Florence; her sons and daughter-in-laws: Clifford and Merrillin Emery, of Florence, Lloyd George Emery Jr., of Newberg and Michael and Candace Emery of Jamestown, Calif., her daughters and son-in-laws: Judie and Howard Lloyd, of Lincoln City, Kathi and Larry Sims, of Houston, Texas, and Sharon and Neil Gillis, of Troutdale; her sisters: Raye Spencer, of Sebastapol, Calif., Ruthelma Barrett, of West Covina, Calif., and Edriss Morse, of Beaverton; 15 grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
Arrangements were by Smith-Lund-Mills Funeral Chapel.
A service will be held at 1 p.m. Nov. 13 at the Drain Assembly of God Church.
Betty Marge Morris
1929-2004
Betty Marge Morris, a 52-year resident of Cottage Grove, died Oct. 27 at the age of 75 from age-related causes.
She was born to Ray and Minnie Morris in Loretto, Neb., on Feb. 12, 1929.
She grew up in Nebraska.
She married Elmer Earl Morris in Newmans Grove, Neb., on June 22, 1944.
She loved gardening, baking, shopping and bingo.
She was known for her cinnamon rolls.
She attended the Family Praise Center and was a member of the Cottage Grove Moose Lodge.
She was preceded in death by her husband, who died in July of 1988, and her brother, Earl Morris, who died in 1965.
She is survived by her daughters: Betty Dockery, of Midall, Okla., Linda Hover, of Cottage Grove; six grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Monday at Springfield Memorial Gardens and Funeral Home.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Diabetes Association.
Earl Murry
1917-2004
Earl Murry, a lifelong resident of Cottage Grove, died Sunday at the age of 87 from age-related causes.
He was born to John and Emma Murry in Cottage Grove on Oct. 4, 1917.
He was raised in the area and completed 10th grade.
He married his second wife, Meltha Maddox Murry, on July 5, 1988, in Lane County.
He worked in logging as a timber faller.
He enjoyed fishing, farming and hunting.
He was a school board member for 30 years, where he received numerous awards, and he was a member of the Board of Trustees for Taylor Lane Cemetery.
He was preceded in death by his first wife: Dorothy M. White; his brother: Roy Gilbert; and two sons: Earl L. Murry and Gilbert Monroe.
He is survived by his wife: Meltha Murry of Cottage Grove; his sons: John Alfred Murry of Redding, Calif., Robert Ernest Murry of Cottage Grove and Roy William Murry of Cottage Grove; his daughter: Elsie Jean Long of Malvern, Ark.; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held Thursday at 1 p.m. at the London Grange.
Memorial arrangements are being handled by Smith-Lund-Mills Funeral Home.
