Barbara Phelps

Barbara Ann Phelps, 69, of Albany died Tuesday at Camlu Retirement Apartments.
She was born in Geddes, S.D., to Dorlin and Cecelia (Gavin) Crane.
She grew up in McMinnville, Roseburg, Salem, Seaside and Albany.
She graduated from Albany High School in 1949 and attended Linn-Benton Community College in 1976 and 1977.
She married
Robert D. Phelps on April 14, 1949, in Goshen. He died July 29, 1998.
Mrs. Phelps was a realtor for 18 years and retired in 1996.
She had worked as a car dealer from 1987 to 1990.
She belonged to St. Mary's Catholic Church and enjoyed traveling.
Surviving are son Daniel of Albany; daughter Julie Lyon of Salem; sister Ethel Flegel of Albany; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Sister Margaret Raw died earlier.
Viewing will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Fisher Funeral Home.
A graveside service for Mrs. Phelps will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Willamette Memorial Park, with Father John Betts officiating.

Leona A. Davis
Feb. 11, 1925 - March 1, 2001
Leona Annabelle Davis, 76, of Albany died Thursday at Timberview Care Center in Albany.
She was born in Gentry, Ark., the daughter of Walter and Sarah (Newlun) Stamps.
As a small child, she moved to Joplin, Mo.
She married
Bill Davis Sept. 14, 1940, in Neosho, Mo., and they settled in Albany.
Mr. Davis died July 11, 1989.
Mrs. Davis was a homemaker who especially enjoyed her family and liked crocheting, bingo, cooking, sewing, cake decorating and reading.
She was a member of the Eagles Lodge for 20 years.
She spent the last five years at Timberview Care Center, where a family member said, "She has received wonderful care."
Surviving are sons Alan and Joseph, both of Albany, and Richard of Corvallis; daughters Phillis Busby of Chanute, Kan., and DeEtta Van Atta, Sandra Davis and Delores Carpenter, all of Albany; and brothers Jay Stamps of Concord, Calif.; and Rex Stamps of California.
There are 14 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Saturday at AAsum Funeral Home.
A graveside celebration of Mrs. Davis' life will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Twin Oaks Memorial Gardens, with Pastor T.J. Smith officiating.

Eva E. Wallace
April 23, 1914 - Feb. 23, 2001
Eva Eleanor Wallace, 86, of Albany died Friday at Timberview Care Center.
She was born on a cattle ranch in Hooker County, Neb., the daughter of Elmer and Alley (Grover) Hammond.
She enjoyed riding horses while growing up.
She married
Lloyd Canida in 1931, and they moved to Oregon in 1938.
Together they owned and operated a cafe in downtown Albany.
Later he worked in a plywood mill while she was a homemaker.
After Lloyd's death in December of 1955, she went to work as a telephone operator.
She married
Ray Wallace.
In 1961 Mrs. Wallace joined the Jehovah's Witnesses.
She was devoted to helping people study the Bible.
She enjoyed traveling and playing the piano.
Surviving are sons Wayne of Winston and Elmer of Bellingham, Wash.; daughters Gayle Moore of Jefferson and Francis Brown of Farmington, N.M.; brother Jack Hammond of Lacomb; and sister Laura Simmonson of Nebraska.
Sister Gladys Howard preceded her in death.
Mrs. Wallace's funeral will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Kingdom Hall of the Jehovah's Witnesses, 3030 Grand Prairie Road S.E., Albany, with Ray Neese officiating.
DeMoss-Durdan Garden Chapel of Corvallis is handling arrangements.
Mary B. Poole
June 30, 1908 - Feb. 25, 2001
Mary Bosshart Poole, 93, formerly of Albany died Sunday at her home in Tucson, Ariz.
Mrs. Poole was a professor in the home economics department at Oregon State University before retiring in 1972.
In 1954 she was appointed assistant to Dr. Kirkendall at the school.
She belonged to Modern Travelers, the A.A.U.W. Book Club, the Early Childhood Education Association and the National Council of Family Relations.
Surviving are son H. John Poole of North Carolina; daughter Mary Poole Molina of San Antonio, Texas; grandsons Bill Molina of San Antonio, and Edward Molina of Austin, Texas; and sister Lee Bosshart of Albany.
There will be a memorial service at 10 a.m. Wednesday, March 14, at "The Fountains at La Cholla" in Tucson, Ariz.
Contributions in her name may be made to the United Presbyterian Church Preschool in Albany or to a children's charity of the donor's choice.
Charles E. Coate
Aug. 19, 1921 - Feb. 27, 2001
BROWNSVILLE - Former Brownsville-area resident Charles Edward Coate, 79, of Vancouver, Wash., died Tuesday.
He was born near Protection, Kan., on the family wheat and cattle ranch.
He was the son of Gilbert and Laura (Harden) Coate.
He attended a country grade school and graduated from high school in Protection.
He attended Salt City Business College in Hutchinson, Kan.
He married
Lois Ann Travis, a widow with a small son, Feb. 10, 1952. They had a daughter.
The Coates were living with their daughter between Brownsville and Shedd, where his wife remains.
Mr. Coate had been a farmer and a farm manager in commercial egg production.
Surviving besides wife Lois Ann are daughter Laura Ann Coate of Brownsville and stepson Russell E. Travis of Yakima, Wash.
A graveside service will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Terrace Heights Memorial Park in Yakima, Wash., with the Rev. Dennis Smith, Mr. Coate's nephew, officiating.
Contributions in his name may be made to Evergreen Hospice of Albany or to Hospice Southwest of Vancouver, Wash.
