William Adams
1932-2004
William R. Adams, 71, of Cottage Grove, died Oct. 15, 2004, of kidney failure.
He was born to Joel W. and Theresa (Stoller) Adams on Nov. 12, 1932, in Chicago, Ill.
He married Millicent Bennett on Nov. 13, 1956, in Tijuana, Mexico.
He lived in El Cajon, Calif., Lancaster, Calif., and Duncan, Ariz., before moving to Saginaw and then Cottage Grove.
He received a GED while serving in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War.
He attended Antelope Valley Community College.
He was a boilermaker, pipefitter and union steward.
He was a retired UAW member.
He enjoyed fishing, woodworking and welding.
He was a life member of Oregon American Veterans Post No. 3 and a member and past master of the Cottage Grove Masonic Lodge No. 51.
He received the Hiram Award in 2002.
He is survived by his wife: Millicent Adams; two daughters: Lorena Bilyeu of Culp Creek and Millynda Garcia of Safford, Ariz.; one son: William J. Adams of Disney, Okla.; as well as nine grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will begin at 3 p.m. today at the Cottage Grove Masonic Lodge.

Dorothea Sallila
1921-2004
Dorothea Virginia Sallila, 83, of Cottage Grove, died Oct. 15, 2004, of cancer.
She was born to Joel and Nell (Horne) Kent on Feb. 5, 1921, in Denver, Colo.
She married Rupert M. Sallila on April 23, 1974, in Virginia City, Nev.
She lived in San Francisco until 1974 and in Sacramento, Calif., until 1987, then moved to Cottage Grove.
She was assistant manager of the Amazon Theater in San Francisco and motel/hotel manager at the Grenada and Thunderbird Hotels in West Sacramento.
She enjoyed art and collecting dolls.
She belonged to the Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary, American Legion Auxiliary, the Moose Lodge and American Veterans.
She is survived by her husband: Rupert Sallila; five sons: Joel, Eddy, Fred, Tom and Ron; four daughters: Marie, Charleen, Nancy and Deborah; as well as 22 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.
A son, Clarence, died before her.
No service is planned.

Dorothy Vermont
1941-2004
Dorothy L. Vermont, 63, of Creswell, died Oct. 16, 2004, of lung cancer.
She was born to Leslie and Erman Anglin on April 25, 1941, in Denver, Colo.
She lived in Canyon Country, Calif., and Newhall, Calif., before moving to the area four years ago.
She worked for Thatcher Glass Co. and was a bartender/waitress.
After her retirement she worked for Service Master Janitorial in Eugene.
She enjoyed her roses and gardening, her cats and dogs and taking care of her five grandchildren.
She participated in the Cottage Grove Relay for Life.
She is survived by her mother: Leslie Anglin of San Fernando, Calif.; a son and daughter-in-law: Robert and Kelly Foreman of Creswell; a sister and brother-in-law: Maxine and Dan Smith of Southern California; grandchildren: Shaun, Cameron, Nicholas, Alexander and Sheniya Foreman, all of Creswell; as well as nieces and nephews and many cousins in Southern California.
A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday at the Creswell Church of Christ.

Harry Demanett
1924-2004
Harry Demanett, 79, of Creswell, died Oct. 17 of cardiac arrest.
He was born to William and Ruth (Davis) Demanett on Dec. 5, 1924, in Cloud County, Kan.
He married Cecil Ann Peterson on Aug. 2, 1947, in Arvada, Colo.
He grew up and attended school in Kansas, moving to Oregon in 1947.
He was a trim saw off-bearer and worked for Cone Lumber Co., retiring in 1986.
A farmer at heart, he enjoyed restoring old farm equipment, especially John Deere.
He was a member of the Jehovah's Witnesses in Creswell, the 2-Cylinder Tractor Club and a 50-year member of Western Timber Operators Council Union.
He is survived by his wife: Cecil Ann Demanett; three sons: Sam (and Cindy) Demanett, Mark (and April) Demanett and Tim (and Debbie) Demanett, all of Creswell; a sister: Esther Bonebrake of Creswell; a brother: Carl Leland Demanett of Cottage Grove; and six grandchildren: Joshua, Isaac, Micah, Malachi, Carly and Hayley.
A memorial service will begin at 2 p.m. today at Kingdom Hall in Creswell.
Private interment will be at Brumbaugh Cemetery, Cottage Grove.
