Carl Davis
Carl Davis, 85, died Saturday April 12, 2008.
Carl was born June 6, 1922.
He graduated from Estacada High School, the University of Oregon and Northwestern College of Law. He served in the United States Army Air Corps as a pilot in Texas and China in WWII. He worked as an Oregon State Police Officer, insurance adjuster and underwriter. He had a private practice of law, and was an Assistant Attorney General for the State of Oregon. He was a member and past president of the Woodburn Rotary Club and was a member of the Woodburn First Presbyterian Church.
He married Jean Ogle of Lakeview in 1955.
Carl is survived by: his wife, Jean; son and daughter-in-law, Jerry and Vickie Davis of Boring; daughters and sons-in-law, Janell and Bert Wyatt of Dufur and Jennifer and Garrett of Salem; grandchildren, Scott, Eric, Tasha, Margo, Marissa and Jon; great-granddaughter, Hannah.
A private service will be held at a later date.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Rotary Foundation, a charity of the donor's choice or the Woodburn First Presbyterian Church.
W. L. 'Hank' Martin
W. L. 'Hank' Martin, 101, passed away Thursday, April 17, 2008 from natural causes.
Hank was Born Aug. 10, 1906 in Anatone, Wash. to Wesley and Edith Martin.
He married Jessie M. Martin in June of 1937 in Lakeview.
Hank was raised in Asotin, Wash. He worked for the MC Ranch in Klamath and Lake counties in the 1930s where he met Jessie in 1936. Hank then worked for Reed Tractor in Klamath Falls in the 1940s, Crater Lake Machinery/Pape' Caterpillar in Redmond and Eugene in the 1950s and 1960s. He lived in Bend and Redmond in the 1950s and 1960s followed by retirement from mechanic work in Alaska.
He was a member of the Cascade Camera Club in Bend in the 1950s and 1960s.
Hank resided in Lakeview from 1974 until moving to Bend in May of 2006.
He was preceded in death by: his parents, daughter Sue, six brothers and one sister.
He is survived by: his wife, Jessie of Bend; son, Dean Martin of Bend; brother, Mel Martin of Ridgecrest, Calif.; sisters, Alice Hollenbeck of Clarkston, Wash. and Marie Taylor of Sumner, Wash.; two grandchildren; three great-grandchildren and one great-great'“grandchild.
Funeral services were not announced.
Anna Louise Minor- Valdes
Anna Louise Minor Valdes, 75, passed away on Monday June 2, 2008 after a long illness.
She was born on a cold and snowy Dec. 15, 1932, in DeQueen, Ark., to Denis A. Minor and Della Cox Minor. She was the youngest daughter in a family of nine children. The family moved to Oregon when she was four years old and settled in the Lakeview area. She was baptized at the Church of Christ in Lakeview in 1959, and considered this her second birth.
She married her high school sweetheart, Bill Wells, when she was just 17 years old, shortly after graduating from high school. They had two children, Stephen and Sherry. Bill died suddenly in 1968, leaving Louise a widow at only 36. She then married Eugene E. Tracy in late 1969. In just three years, she was widowed again.
In 1974, tragedy struck again. Her only son, Stephen, was killed in an automobile accident. Louise handled all of these losses with great dignity and grace and leaned upon her strong faith.
Louise had decided that she would never marry again until she met Caesar Valdes. He swept her off her feet, and they married on Jan. 7, 1994. She felt that God had sent Caesar to her, and they had 14 happy years together, sharing their love of dancing, and spending their winters at their home in Yuma, Ariz.
Louise lived in Oregon more than 70 years and in Jackson County over 30 years. She worked for the federal government for 33 years, including 5 years with the US Civil Service Commission in Portland, and Seattle, Wash. Most of her tenure was with the US Forest Service in Lakeview, Medford and Portland.
She is survived by: her beloved husband, Caesar; daughter, Sherry and son-in-law, Hershel Cossey; sister, Katie Uptain and brother, J. Cecil Minor.
She adored her three great-granddaughters, Acacia (Casey), Madison and Haley, and believed them to be the most beautiful and smartest girls in the world. She was extremely proud of her grandchildren, Brooke Wells Covey, of Gerlach, Nev.; Paul, Jonathan and Matthew Havel of Lakeview.
Her services were held at the West Main Church of Christ in Medfordon Thursday, June 5, 2008.
Stanley David 'Opa' Walters
Stanley David Walters, 68, passed on Wednesday, June 4, 2008.
He was born in Lebanon on April 23, 1940 to Pansy and David Walters. Stan was the second born in a family of five boys and one girl. He grew up on Whiskey Butte in Foster. Stan attended grade school in Foster and graduated from Sweet Home High School in 1958.
He joined the US Army in March 1960 and was a paratrooper with the 82nd Airborne division until transferring into military intelligence. Stan served overseas in Vietnam and occupied Berlin, Germany. While in the service Stan marched in President Kennedy's inaugural parade and met his best friend and the love of his life in Mannheim, Germany.
Stan and Erika were married Jan. 11, 1963. After his honorable discharge they returned to the family farm on Whiskey Butte until 1968. He was a full time custom farmer until becoming employed with the US Forest Service as a resource officer. In 1979 Stan and his family moved to Lakeview. He worked for Precision Pine as the logging and timber harvest manager. Stan ventured into self-employment as a restaurateur, candy and beverage distributor, owner/operator of the local bowling alley.
Stan enjoyed hunting, fishing, hiking, scouting, guiding hunts, bowling with friends, his grand kids sporting events, cutting and chopping wood, his morning visits over coffee, daily walks around Lakeview, and story telling. Stan had an incredible and infectious joy and love for life. Stan was lovingly referred to as Opa. He was a solid family man who took great pride in his wife, kids, grand kids, and great grand kids, his community and his country. He was firm in his beliefs, with a huge heart full of loving kindness for all. He always gave second chances looking for the potential and positive of each person.
Stan was preceded in death by: his mother, Pansy; his father, David; step-father, Louis; two brothers, Sidney and Timothy and sister, Dolly.
Stan is survived by: his wife of 45 years, Erika; son, Ralph; daughters and sons-in-law, Susi and Steve Brazeal, Martina and Jimbo Weiser, also two brothers; Anthony and James; grandchildren, Russell, Trevor, Steffi, Marina, Jace and Justin, Dorry, Merton, and Ethan, Erin, Brian, Breanna and Amy; great-grandchildren, Marley-rain, Leilani, Kaylee, Catalina and Denyiel. He also leaves behind his faithful walking and fishing partner; Simon, as well as an insurmountable number of friends and adopted family.
A celebration of Life Service will be held at the Lakeview Elk's Lodge on Friday, June 13 at 11 a.m. Services will be conducted by the PER's of the Lakeview Elk's Lodge with a detachment of the US Army participating. The VFW Layne Clifton Post # 4070 will also participate. A potluck luncheon will be held at the Elk's Lodge following the services. The interment will be private.

Roger Blaine Armstrong
Roger Blaine Armstrong, 81, of Lakeview, passed away on Wednesday, June 25, 2008.
He was Born to Lige and Grace (McClain) Armstrong on July 27, 1926 in Lyons, Kansas.
Roger and his family moved to Lakeview in the 1930s. He graduated from Lakeview High School with the class of 1944 and married Millie Barry, also of Lakeview, on Sept. 4, 1945.
Roger served with the Army Air Corp from 1944 through 1946 as a flight engineer. He returned to Lakeview and joined the Oregon State Police in 1949, where he worked for 17 years in Burns, Baker and Pendleton. In 1958 he was promoted to Sergeant in Pendleton, where he remained until 1965, when he was transferred to District Headquarters in Baker. In 1966, Roger joined the US State Department as a Foreign Police Advisor. He was sent to Phuoc Long Province in Vietnam in 1968. It was his job to help the Vietnamese, in the area, update their police department. Free elections had just been established and security was needed to insure their continuation. Roger returned to the United States in 1970, after two years in Vietnam.
He then began a career in apartment and motel management. In the 1980s, Roger returned to his much beloved Lakeview, which was always "home" to him.
He is survived by: his son, Jerry Armstrong; daughter, Karen Anderson; granddaughters, Natalie and Nicole Armstrong, all living in Arizona; his brother- in-law, Earl O'Connor of Lakeview and several nieces and nephews. Roger had many friends and will be missed for his charismatic personality and great sense of humor.
At the families request public services will not be held. Private interment will be at the family plot at the Sunset Park Cemetery.
Arrangements are being made by Ousley Osterman Huffstutter Funeral Chapel.
Lydia Marie Greer
Lydia Marie Greer, 5, of Dallas passed away on Wednesday, July, 16, 2008 as the result of a tragic car accident near Amity.
Lydia was born on Wednesday Nov. 27, 2002 in Pendleton to Jake and Daphne Greer.
Lydia loved life and all the things that made people happy. She loved to sing, dance, entertain people and put a smile upon people's faces. She had a bubbly personality that was contagious to everyone around her. One of her favorite activities was to dress up her younger brother Hunter. Much to the chagrin of her father, Lydia would dress Hunter in a purple dress and he would be all decked out in make-up as well. Another thing Lydia thoroughly enjoyed was being part of her church family at Dallas Methodist Church. She tracked her weeks by which day was church day. Lydia attended the Happy Face Preschool in McMinnville and she had many friends there.
Lydia is survived by: her parents, Jake and Daphne Greer of Dallas; brother, Hunter of Dallas; grandparents, Dan and Nancy Greer of Independence; grandfather, John Bach of Lakeview; grandmother, Sheryl Smith of Bend; great-grandmother, Margaret Snow of Independence; great-grandfather, Bud Haughstad of Rancho Mirage, Calif.; great-grandparents, Sherman and Norma Anderson of Lakeview; aunts and uncles, Scot and Julie McDonald of Dallas; and Daniel Bach of Redmond.
There will be a private burial service at New Pine Creek Cemetery on Thursday July 24. A Celebration of Life will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, July 26 at the Monmouth Christian Church, 959 W. Church St., Monmouth. Immediately following the service there will be a reception for friends and family at the Polk County Fire District 1 Station, 1800 Monmouth St., Independence.

E.J.'˜Al' Mocabee
Former resident E.J.'˜Al' Mocabee, 89, passed away on Saturday, July 12, 2008, in Gresham.
He was born Aug. 21, 1918 in Morehouse, Mo. He moved to Lakeview in 1946 as a route salesman for Fluhers Bakery in Klamath Falls. After living here a couple of years, he resigned his bakery route and entered the life insurance business for West Coast Life Insurance Co. At the same time started Mocabees' Home Furnishings featuring Frigidaire products. He persuaded J. Millis Flynn to join him as a junior partner. A little later he brought in Fields Flynn as a partner.
Al was an active member of the Lakeview Elks, Masonic Lodge, Eastern Star and Lake County Shrine Club. He was elected to the Lakeview School Board for seven years and served one term as its chairman. In 1953 Al sold his interest in the furniture store to the Flynn brothers and moved to Portland to take a management position at the Portland branch of the West Coast Life Insurance Co.
Al is survived by: his wife, Shirley; daughters, Cynthia Mocabee and Karen Consbruck; son-in-law, Mike; step-children, Terry and Scott McEnry, three grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Marie Doherty Murray
Marie Doherty Murray, 79, passed away at home with her family at her side on Wednesday, July 9, 2008.
Marie was born on July 11, 1928, in San Francisco, Calif., to Irish immigrant parents Tom and Marie. Marie's family moved in the early 1930s to Lakeview where her father was employed in the sheep business.
She graduated from Lakeview High School in 1946 and then attended business college in the San Francisco Bay area, where she learned her life trade as an accountant. Upon graduation, she returned to Lakeview and worked for the accounting department of Fremont Lumber Company.
While attending a local wedding, she met her husband of 56 years Rodney Murray. Marie married Rodney in 1951 and they then moved to Chicago, Ill., while Rodney served in the U.S. Army. Upon completion of Rod's service, they moved to Klamath Falls to build a home and start their family.
Marie was partners with Rod, serving as the accountant at Klamath Falls Creamery while taking care of the Murray Farms and other businesses. Throughout this time and with her many activities, Marie raised three children and was an active inspirational supporter in every aspect of their lives.
She was a member of CF Chapter of PEO for 50 years and an avid member of her book club as well as enjoying her long relationship with close friends in her bridge club.
She was also a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, where she taught catechism classes and was a member of Catholic Daughters. She enjoyed traveling to see relatives in Ireland. Marie and Rod traveled to various parts of the world and especially liked their regular trips to Hawaii. Marie reached out to all her family and friends and especially treasured her 56-year marriage. She is survived by: her husband, Rodney; sons and daughters-in-law, Michael and Joyce and Tom and Kaylin; daughter, Julianne; sister and brother-in-law, Julia and Joe Flynn; sister-in-law, Marcella Bell; grandchildren and their spouses, Jessica and Peter Osborn, Nick and Karin Murray, Matthew and Rachel Murray, Blake and Tiana Murray, Alex and Whitney Murray, Cameron Murray, Kendall Murray and Lovey Grace Murray; great-grandchildren, Mikey, Jacob and Scotty Osborn, Henry Murray and Rose, Tessa and Todd Murray.
A rosary was held at Ward's Klamath Funeral Home on Sunday, July 13, 2008. A mass was held Monday, July 14, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Klamath Falls with concluding services at Mt. Calvary Cemetery.

Jim Buchanan
Jim Buchanan, 73, of Bly passed away at St. Charles Medical Center in Bend on Monday, July 21, 2008.
Jim was born in Waterford City, N.D. on July 27, 1934.
He moved in 1943 to John Day where he graduated from high school.
In 1960 he moved to Bly and worked for Loveness Mill, which later became Modoc Lumber Company. In 1970 he went to work for Weyerhaeuser Lumber Company, becoming a supervisor in 1979 until his retirement in 1990. After his retirement he drove log trucks for Melsness Logging.
Jim established the Bly Water and Sanitary District in 1973 and served as president of the board of directors until the time of his death.
In 1963 Jim married Gloria and helped raise her four sons, Buddy, Emmet, Kenneth and Johnny.
Jim was preceded in death by: son, Buddy Kness, two brothers, one sister and grandson, Shaun Kness.
He is survived by: his wife, Gloria; sons and daughters-in-law, Emmet and Cyndi Kness and Johnny and Donna Kness all of Bly, Kenneth and Anne Kness of Hines; daughter-in-law, Debbie Ochoa of Langell Valley; brothers, Buck Vancil of Grants Pass and David Vancil of Cottage Grove; sisters, Yvonne Saunders of Seneca, Audrey Wise of Portland and Shyla Relda of Lathrop Calif.; grandchildren and their spouses, Melissa and Matthew Arata, Campbell and Kataya Kness, Janice and Jerry Schooler, Tracy and Brad Melsness, Andrew and Sarah Kness, Buddy and Meghan Kness, Cara Kness, Taylor Kness, Philip Kness, Jayne Kness and Jacquie and Richie Peterson; 13 great-grandchildren; nephew, Gordon Beil and his wife Betty of John Day; niece, Wanda Werrick and her husband Lindsay of Bend.
He was very much involved in their lives and loved each and everyone very much, as did they in turn, love and respect their 'Papa.'
Memorial services were held Saturday, July 26, 2008 in Bly at the Assembly of God Church.
Joanne Quinlan Flynn
Joanne Quinlan Flynn, 91, passed away peacefully, surrounded by family, at Lake District Hospital in Lakeview on Thursday, Aug. 21, 2008.
Joanne was born on Sept. 4, 1916, to James J. and Margaret McAuliffe Quinlan in Rowels, Meelin, County Cork, Ireland. She was the second of eight children. She arrived in New York on Jan. 13, 1950, intending to visit relatives there as well as in San Francisco, Calif. and Lakeview.
During this time, she worked as a nurse's assistant at Columbia Presbyterian Hospital in New York City and Saint Joseph's Hospital in San Francisco. During a visit to her aunt Mary Francis Fitzgerald -in Lakeview, she met and later married her husband of 37 years, Tom Flynn. They were married in San Francisco on May 3, 1952, and moved to Lakeview shortly thereafter. Joanne became a United States citizen on Sept. 2,1958.
Living in Lakeview, Joanne dedicated her life to being a stay-at-home mother raising her children and caring for grandchildren in later years. She was very active in her church and community. As a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church, she served as president of the Altar Society and was an instructor in the CCD program. Joanne was also instrumental in persuading the Sisters of the Atonement to locate a convent in Lakeview. This provided religious instruction to the youth of St. Patrick Parish and its missions in Paisley, Plush and Adel.
Joanne was a charter member of the Lake District Hospital Women's Auxiliary; she also served as president. She spent many years volunteering in the hospital's long term care facility organizing games, birthday parties, and arts and crafts, as well as the annual Holiday Fair. She also volunteered as a Cub Scout den mother and a Camp Fire leader. Organizing the annual Red Cross Blood Drive was another of her activities.
Never forgetting her roots, Joanne passed on her love of Ireland to her children and grandchildren. She enjoyed following her grandchildren's activities and Lakeview High School sports. Her last year was spent on her son Dennis and daughter-in-law Andrea's ranch in Adel. She maintained her own home, helped Dennis feed the calves, and-spoiled the dogs and cats. She was very content, and the rural lifestyle reminded her of growing up in Ireland.
She will be fondly remembered by friends and family as a devoted and loving wife, mother, and grandmother. A compassionate friend of everyone whose lives she touched, Joanne was truly a lady, gracious and kind to all.
Joanne was preceded in death by her husband Tom on Jan. 13, 1989; her parents James and Margaret; brothers Jim, Mossie, Pat and Dave; sisters Sheila and Dora.
Joanne is survived by her son and daughter-in- law Dennis and Andrea Flynn of Adel; son Jim Flynn of Reno, Nev.; daughter and son-in-law Maureen and Joe Gagliardi of Eldorado Hills, Calif.;sister Kathleen Quinlan of San Francisco; grandchildren Erin, Megan, and Tom Flynn; Dominic, Brian, and Brady Gagliardi. In addition to brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, numerous nieces and nephews in both the US and Ireland, Joanne is survived by an extended family of friends and acquaintances.
Services were held at St. Patrick Catholic Church with Recitation of the Holy Rosary at Sunday, Aug. 24 and a Requiem Funeral Mass on Monday, Aug. 25. Internment took place at the family burial plot in Sunset Park Cemetery.
