Doris A. Staack
Doris A. Rezner Staack, 88, of Woodburn, died Tuesday, Feb. 10, 2009.
Born, Aug. 23, 1920, in Oberlin, Neb., she graduated from high school and attended college in Kansas.
She graduated from the Presbyterian School of Nursing in Denver, Colo., in 1942 and worked as a registered nurse at the Denver children’s hospital.
She later moved to Nebraska where she worked at several hospitals in surgical nursing and as a supervisor.
She moved to Scio in 1974 and to Woodburn in 1986.
In 1943, she married Arlyn Staack in Sidney, Kan. He died in 1991.
She enjoyed sewing and painting china.
She was a member of the Christian Home Fellowship.
Survivors include her daughter, Carol Hammond of Woodburn; son, Robert of Woodburn; sisters, Alice May and Lois Carlson of Oberlin, Kan., and Kay Hartman of Rancho Mirage, Calif.; three grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Services were held Feb. 13 at Cornwell Colonial Chapel with burial at Belle Passi Cemetery.
Henry Scheer
Henry Scheer, 84, of Portland, died Feb. 6, 2009.
He was born May 19, 1924, to Albert and Louise Scheer in Oregon City where he attended school.
He enlisted in the U.S. Army Air Forces at the age of 19 and served in the Air Rescue Service in the European Theater.
After the service, he worked for the Aerojet General Corp. in Sacramento, Calif., and Dade County, Fla.
He later worked for Union Carbide and Dow Chemical Co.
In 1964, he married Gloria Tedesco.
She died in 2000.
Survivors include his siblings, Ted Scheer of Canby, Hugh Scheer of Cave Junction, Gene Scheer of Merlin, Ore., and Claire Trullinger and Eola Ellyses of Oregon City.
Burial will be at Willamette National Cemetery on Tuesday, Feb. 17, at 1 p.m.
Claire Amanda Irene Trullinger
Claire Amanda Irene Trullinger, 96, died Tuesday, Feb. 10, 2009.
She was born Oct. 17, 1922, in Oregon City. She owned Claire’s Jewelry.
Survivors include her daughter, Terry Cassell of Oregon City; son, Tom of Enterprise; sister, Eola Ellyses of Oregon City; brothers, Ted Scheer of Canby, Hugh Scheer of Cave Junction and Gene Scheer of Merlin, Ore.; four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Her brother Henry Scheer died Feb. 6, 2009.
No services will be held.

Clifford Merle Harlan
Clifford Merle Harlan, 75, of Canby, died Oct. 11, 2006, at his home.
He was born Oct. 18, 1930, in Miller, S.D., and came to Oregon with his family at age 6.
He previously lived in Boring, Estacada and West Linn and had lived in Canby the last 27 years.
He married Beverly Curtis on April 17, 1969.
He was a fist class machinist and early in his career, built Warren Hubs.
He retired from Publishers Paper Co. in Molalla in 1978.
He enjoyed oil painting and played several musical instruments.
He attended Canby Alliance Church.
He is survived by his wife, daughters Juli Ransom of Albany, Sharon Bohl of Waldport, Kathy Marshall of Olalla, Wash., and Pam Rockwood and Linda Koler, both of Canby; sons, Gary Marshall of Corvallis and Ron Marshall of Oak Harbor, Wash.; brothers, Dick Harlan of Milwaukie and Mike Harlan of Canby; sisters, Mary Bramwell of Klamath Falls and Linda Daniels of Canby; 19 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by son Rodney Harlan in April 2006.
Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 21, at Canby Alliance Church.
Memorial contributions may be made to Willamette Falls Hospital.

Richard L. Steffenson
Richard L. Steffenson, 72, died Oct. 14, 2006, in Salinas, Calif.
He was born March 8, 1934, in Oakland, Calif., to John and Tillie Steffenson.
In 1935, the family moved to Canby where he attended grade school and high school.
A veteran of the Korean War, he married Marilyn Peters in 1959.
He is survived by his wife, daughters, Marcel DeGroodt of Watsonville, Calif., and Anita Goulart of Southerlin, Ore.; sisters, Eunice Cross-Porter of Canby, Jeanne Hass of Portland and Shirley Kletzok of Prineville; two brothers, Glenn of Merced, Calif., and Melvin of Pleasanthill.
Burial at Veterans Cemetery, Roseburg.
John Edward Hieb
John Edward Hieb, 73, died Oct. 10, 2006, in Clackamas.
He was born Dec. 15, 1932, in Merrill, Wis., one of seven children of Alice and Wesley Hieb.
In 1943, the family moved to Oregon’s Redland-Carver area, where at age 12, he helped his father saw down trees with a cross-cut saw to make logs to build the family home.
During the Korean War, he was declared 4F when his draft physical revealed a heart murmur, which later turned out to be a faulty heart valve.
But due to some error, he received an induction notice anyway and wanting to serve in the military, he said nothing and was inducted into the U.S. Army on Feb. 11, 1953.
He became a lineman in the army and was stationed two years in Salzberg, Austria.
He returned home and was placed on inactive duty on Jan. 14, 1955 and received an honorable discharge as a corporal on April 14, 1961.
He was married briefly twice but was a bachelor most of his life.
He attended Good Shepherd Community Church in Boring.
He is survived by sisters, Janis Cameron of Willamette, Diane McLean of Oregon City, Faith Rotrock of Estacada and Arlene Ball of LaCenter, Wash.
A brother, Allan Hieb, and sister, Connie Mullis, preceded him in death.
Services will be held Tuesday, Oct. 17, at Willamette National Cemetery with his nephew, John Hieb,

Robert Park Smith
Robert P. Smith, 76, of Molalla, died Oct. 15, 2006, at Providence Milwaukie Hospital.
He was born on Sept. 20, 1930, in Newberg to Park and Gladwyn Smith.
He attended school in Dundee and married Bertha Dygert in June 1955.
A U.S. Army paratrooper from 1951 to 1953, he later worked as a foreman at Publishers Paper Co., a security guard with a battery company and a delivery truck driver for Chevron Oil.
He also was a firefighter, working eight years with the EMS Service of the Molalla Fire Department.
He is survived by his wife, daughters, Debbie Townsend of Boise, Idaho, Rebecca Stryker of Portland and Katrina Mooney of Hubbard; son, Patrick of Molalla; 10 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren.

Sylvia R. DeVore
Sylvia R. DeVore, 74, of Canby, died Sunday, Oct. 15, 2006.
She was born Aug. 3, 1932, in Klamath Falls where she later graduated from Henley High School.
She earned a bachelor’s degree in elementary education from Southern Oregon University at Ashland.
She married Dale DeVore in 1958. He died in 1994.
She taught school from 1957 to 1990, retiring from the Canby School District where she had taught more than 27 years.
She is survived by her son, Russ; sister, Lucille Preston; brothers George and Ed Keady; and three grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 22, at Bethany Evangelical Church.
Richard Clayton Anderson
Richard Clayton Anderson, 75, died April 16, 2007, in Bend.
He was born Nov. 18, 1931, in Yakima, Wash., to Robert and Beryl Anderson.
He married Margie Hays in Stevenson, Wash. on May 22, 1954.
He was a retired deputy sheriff from Storey County, Nev., as well as deputy for Clackamas and Lincoln County sheriff's offices.
He is survived by his wife of 53 years; four children, Rick Anderson of Mulino, Cindy Sams of Bend, Tom Anderson of Christmas Valley and Jeff Anderson of Klamath Falls; 17 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; sister, Gloria of Estacada; and brother, Burt of Christmas Valley.
He was preceded in death by a son, Mike, three brothers and one sister.
Burial was held at was at Willamette National Cemetery on April 20.

Kathryn Fae Ernst
Kathryn Fae Harford Ernst, 91, of LaGrande, formerly of St. Paul, died April 2, 2007.
She was born July 28, 1915. She is survived by her daughter, Claudia Smith of St. Paul; five grandchildren, and nine great-grandchildren.
A memorial Mass will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, May 5, at St. Paul Catholic Church, in St. Paul.
