Cecil Ray Jenkins
1927-2004
Cecil Ray Jenkins of Bullhead City, Ariz., died Sept. 25 at the age of 77 from a heart attack.
He was born April 18, 1927, in Elmira to Bill and Stella Jenkins.
He was raised in Lorane.
He was a self-employed businessman in Bullhead City.
He was a 10-year Marine veteran.
He was preceded in death by his wife: Lorine Jenkins; his parents: Bill and Stella Jenkins, of Lorane; and his brother: Don Jenkins, of Drain.
Survivors include his sisters: Peggy Sayles, of Cottage Grove, and Barbara Keep, of Eugene; his sons: Ray and Gary Jenkins, both of Springfield; and two grandsons.
A celebration of life will be announced later.
Desert Lawn Memorial Gardens, in Mohave Desert, Ariz., is handling arrangements.
Dorris Bates
1940-2004
Dorris Bates, a life-long resident of the Creswell area, died Oct. 7 from a heart attack.
She was born May 5, 1940, in Little Rock, Ark., to Johnny and Dorris Houston.
She was raised in Creswell and completed the 11th grade.
She lived with her spouse, Gary Gavette, for 22 years.
She had lived in Cottage Grove, Creswell and Eugene.
She was a caregiver for 40 years and also worked as a waitress and homemaker.
She enjoyed reading, crafts, camping, going for drives, knitting and crocheting.
She was survived by Gavetter; her son: Randy Bates, of Goshen; her daughter and son-in-law: Cindy and Tim Cranmer, of Cottage Grove; three grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
A memorial service was held Monday at the Smith-Lund-Mills Funeral Chapel.
Contributions can be made to the American Cancer Society.
Betty J. Mitchell
1928-2004
Betty J. Mitchell, of Cottage Grove, died Oct. 7 of age-related causes. She was 76.
She was born on March 23, 1928, in Sioux City, Iowa, to Wellington and Olga (Hansen) Walker.
She married John Edward Mitchell on July 13, 1944, in Vancouver, Wash. He died on March 4, 1992.
She lived in the Cave Junction area approximately 15-20 years before moving to Grants Pass, then to Cottage Grove in the early 1990s.
A homemaker, she enjoyed playing cards and games of chance.
She is survived by six sons: Marvin (and his wife, Judy) Mitchell of Grants Pass, Tony Mitchell of Yreka, Calif., Robert (and his wife, Eva) Mitchell of Cottage Grove, Bill (and his wife, Cindy) Mitchell of Bend, Alvin (and his wife, Maxine) Mitchell of Grants Pass and Tom (and his wife, Debbie) Mitchell of Grants Pass; four daughters: Louise Kienel of Myrtle Creek, Lila (and her husband, Vernon) Faulkner of Myrtle Creek, Cheryl (and her husband, Mike) Johnson of Tigard, Evelyn (and her husband, Steve) Gilmore of Creswell and Stephanie (and her husband, Mike) Amelung of Rice Hill; 28 grandchildren and 26 great-grandchildren.
No service is planned.

Beulah Martin
1909-2004
Beulah Mae Martin, of Cottage Grove, died Oct. 6 of age-related causes. She was 95.
She was born to Ray and Ida Kelly and married Harold L. Martin on Sept. 11, 1927, in Abilene, Kan.
He died on Jan. 22, 1995.
She graduated from Abilene High School in 1927 and lived in Abilene until moving to Cottage Grove in August 1940.
She was a clerk at Kelly's Meat Market for many years.
She enjoyed the outdoors, often gardening, fishing or visiting the ocean beaches.
She was an accomplished painter of outdoor scenes and flowers.
She loved spending time with her family, especially the grandchildren.
She is survived by two sons: C.E. "Lefty" Martin of Cottage Grove and William Martin of Castle Rock, Colo.; eight grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren and four great-great grandchildren.
No service is planned. Private inurnment will be in Fir Grove Cemetery.
