Robert H. Keil
AURORA -- Robert H. Keil, 83, a lifelong resident of the Aurora, Canby and Hubbard areas, died
March 29, 2002, at a Portland hospital.
A memorial gathering will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. Saturday, April 27, at the Aurora Colony Museum.
Mr. Keil was born
June 7, 1918, in Hubbard, the son of Hugo and Mac Keil. His ancestors had homesteaded in the Willamette Valley in 1856.
In addition to working as a logger, he was a farmer who raised dairy and beef cattle and berries.
He was a member of the Aurora Historical Society, where memorial contributions may be made in his name.
Survivors include his daughter, Joyce Clayton of Canby; four grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
His wife, Bernice, preceded him in death.
Canby Funeral Chapel is in care of arrangements.
Frank W. Mowry
WOODBURN -- Frank W. Mowry died
in Woodburn on March 25, 2002, at the age of 75.
He was born
July 20, 1926, in Longmont, Colo., and served in the U.S. Navy during World War II.
He was a graduate of Northwestern School of Law at Lewis & Clark and practiced as an attorney until retiring in 1983.
He lived in Iowa before moving to Salem in the early 1940s, then to Portland and Canby before moving to Woodburn in 1991.
He was a championship golfer.
He is survived by his wife, Ardis "Billie" of Woodburn; sons Daniel of Canby and David of Clackamas; stepson Glen Sherwood of Spokane, Wash.; a brother Jack of Temecula, Calif.; sisters Mary DeGrande and Kitty Nichols, both of Vancouver, Wash.; six grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
A daughter, Mary Ellen, died
in 1986.
Private burial
was in Willamette National Cemetery
in Portland.

Richard D. Gustafson
CANBY -- Born Oct. 22, 1950, in Portland, Richard Dale Gustafson died
April 7, 2002, following a two-year battle with cancer.
Memorial services will be held at 4 p.m. Wednesday, April 10, at Bethany Church in Canby where he was a longtime member, Sunday school teacher and past elder board member.
He graduated from high school in Portland, then earned a master's degree in forestry at Oregon State University in 1975. The next year he was accepted at Michigan State University, where he entered the doctoral program. He earned a doctorate in forest economics.
He began his forestry career with Crown Zellerbach Corp. in Wilsonville.
The family settled in Canby in 1980, and in 1986, when Cavenham Forest Industries was formed after the sale of Crown Zellerbach, he moved to an office in Portland where he assumed the position of manager of Resource Development.
In March of 2000, he started his own consulting business.
In addition to his love for his family and the outdoors, he enjoyed music, reading, table games, and playing the guitar.
He is survived by his wife Laura; his children, Geoff, Jennifer, Amy and Emily; a granddaughter Rachael; his mother Betty; and his siblings John, Curt, Carol and Steve.

Galyn ‘Skip’ Leffler
CANBY — Galyn “Skip” Leffler, 71, of Canby died
Dec. 6, 2003, at his home.
Memorial services will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 13, at Canby Funeral Chapel. A gathering will follow at Cutsforth’s community room.
Known as “Skip” by all his family and friends, he was a lifetime resident of Canby and was a U.S. Navy veteran of the Korean War.
He worked for Crown Zellerbach paper mill for 37 years. After retiring, he enjoyed camping and fishing and recreation.
Family say he will be remembered as a loving husband, father and grandfather.
He is survived by wife Dorothy; son Larry; daughter Gaylynn; three stepsons; and six grandchildren.
The family suggests memorials may be made to Willamette Falls Hospice.
Anne Louise Hitchcock
ASHLAND — Anne Louise (DeAvilla) Hitchcock died
Dec. 5, 2003. She was 88.
A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Dec. 10 at Mt. View Cemetery
in Ashland.
She was born
Feb. 21, 1915, in Gottville, Calif.
She married
Richard Hitchcock in 1936; he preceded her in death
in 1983.
A homemaker, she was a member of Unity Church, Klamath Falls Methodist Church and the Eastern Star in Dunsmuir, Calif. She enjoyed gardening, collecting, fishing and sending birthday and Christmas cards to family and friends.
She is survived by son Daniel and wife Patricia Hitchcock of Canby; brother Joe DeAvilla of Mt. Shasta, Calif.; sisters Babe Mulvany of Weed, Calif., and Minnie Fileppe of Eugene; daughter-in-law Patty A. Hitchcock of Mt. Shasta; two grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death
by son Ronald Richard, and nine brothers and sisters.
Arrangements are by Cornwell Colonial Chapel in Wilsonville.
Juanita Jean C. Haun
LINCOLN CITY — Juanita Jean (Crosson) Haun died
March 25, 2004. She was 83.
Viewing was held Sunday, March 28, at Pacific View Memorial Chapel in Lincoln City. Services were held Monday at St. Peter the Fisherman Lutheran Church in Lincoln City. Burial
was Monday at Willamette National Cemetery
in Portland.
She was born
Jan. 22, 1921, in Errols Heights, Ore., to Earl and Myrtle (Rodgers) Crosson.
She graduated from Canby High School with the Class of 1939. Juanita married
Lyle Dale Haun in June 1939.
She lived in Canby until 1983, and worked at Ellis Gardens during the 1950s. She worked in the Portland State University library’s technical services division from 1961-83. Juanita was a member of Zoar Lutheran Church in Canby, and St. Peter the Fisherman Lutheran Church in Lincoln City.
She always found a project to work on, whether it was making pastries and decorating cakes, making pies for missions, or crocheting for her kids or charities, family and friends say.
She is survived by sons Francis Lyle Haun and wife Julia of Fremont, Calif., and Richard Eugene Haun and wife Carolyn of Baytown, Texas; daughters Cecelia Jean Calhoun and husband Ken of Ellensburg, Wash., and Nancy Ann Lynn of Tucson, Ariz.; and 12 grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death
by her husband on Feb. 7, 2000.
Frank Patrick Fuge
CANBY — Frank Patrick Fuge of Canby died
March 26, 2004, at his home.
Memorial services will be held at 11:30 a.m. Friday, April 2, at the Macksburg Lutheran Church. Private burial
will precede the services at Zion Memorial Cemetery. Viewing will be from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Wednesday and Thursday at Canby Funeral Chapel.
He was born
in Oregon City on April 8, 1927. He graduated from Oregon City High School, and attended Oregon State University. Frank married
Lola Mae Palmer on June 30, 1957.
He worked at Publishers Paper Mill for almost 40 years. He was a member of Macksburg Lutheran Church, Ducks Unlimited and a lifetime member of the Odd Fellows. He enjoyed traveling, hunting, and being with his grandchildren.
Survivors include wife Lola Mae of Canby; sons David and his wife Julie of Dayton, Ore., and Scott and his wife Jackie of Canby; and grandchildren Daniel and Sarah of Canby, and Laura and Megan of Dayton.

Clydell Marie Simmons
ESTACADA — Clydell Marie Simmons of Estacada died
of a brain aneurysm Friday, March 26, 2004, at Portland Adventist Hospital. She was 56.
A memorial service will be held at Clackamas Valley Baptist Church in Eastacada at 2 p.m. Wednesday, March 31, with Pastor Bill Griggs officiating. Burial
will be at Willamette National Cemetery.
She was born
May 22, 1947, in Fron, Mo., to Clyde and Pauline Gardner. She attended schools in the Portland and Vancouver areas.
Clydell married
Bill Simmons on Dec. 5, 1966, in Benson, Ariz.
She was a loving and devoted wife, mother and grandmother, family say. Clydell belonged to Valley Baptist Church in Estacada.
She is survived by husband Bill Simmons; sons Bill Simmons Jr. of Portland, Brian Simmons of Portland, Troy Simmons of Heppner, and Travis Simmons of Wilsonville; and seven grandchildren.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Clackamas Valley Baptist Church.

Magna Sylvia Hanson
ROUNDUP, Mont. — Magna Sylvia Hanson, formerly of the Canby-Molalla area, died
Sunday, May 30, 2004 in Roundup, Mont. She was 92.
A memorial service will be held Friday, July 2 during a family reunion in Ronan, Mont. where her husband is buried. Internment will follow at Mountain View Cemetery
in Ronan.
Manga was born
June 2, 1912 in Silverton, Ore. to Thorbjorn and Inga (Andreassen) Hansen. She graduated from Silverton High School on June 5, 1930.
She met Elmer Hanson from Roundup, Mont. when they both worked for Birds Eye Cannery in Woodburn. They were married
in Silverton on April 28, 1932.
They lived on small farms in Woodburn and Canby during many of the next 36 years where they raised berries and had dairy cattle. In 1968 they moved to Ronan, Mont. where they had a ranch and raised beef cattle.
Elmer proceeded her in death
in 1976. Magna left Ronan in 1995 to be closer to her children, living for awhile in Bend, Ore. and Lewistown and Melstone, Mont. She spent her final two-and-a-half years in Whispering Pines foster home in Roundup, Mont.
Magna was an active church member at Zoar Lutheran in Canby. Among the activities she enjoyed were singing in choir, attending and leading Bible studies, and leading a sewing circle that made clothing and quilts for orphanages. She had a passion for the nation of Israel and its people and was able to make a trip to the Holy Land in 1984.
Survivors include daughter, Helen Estergreen of Bend, Ore.; sons: Robert of Wasilla, Alaska; Philip of Lockeford, Calif.; David of Melstone, Mont. and Arnold of Lewistown, Mont.; 20 grandchildren and 22 great grandchildren; and sisters, Ruth Hodnett of Martinsville, Va. and Freda Grande of Portland, Ore.
She was preceded in death
by her husband, Elmer; a son, Ramon; a grandson, Rick; a brother, Thorvald and three sisters, Jerdis Jacobsen, Ida Lee and Bernice Taylor.
Joan Charlton
CANBY — Surrounded by her loving family and pets, Joan Louise Charlton of Canby died
Thursday, June 10, 2004. She was 80.
Services were held Sunday, June 13.
Joan was born
Nov. 24, 1923 in England. She had lived in Canby for about the last five years. Before that, she lived in England.
Family members say she had an abiding love of all natural things, including birds, animals, and flowers, but her family, both here and in England, always came first.
Family say she passed peacefully from this world to be with her beloved husband Harry Charlton, who preceded her in death
in 1996.
She is survived by: her children, Avril Allori and Steven Charlton; grandchildren Chris, Greg, Yvette, Dominic, Lindsay, Kendra, Adrian and Julia; and two great-grandchildren.
