Frances E. Allen
ALLEN, Frances E. — Age 82, of Roseburg, Oregon, went to be with the Lord on Saturday, January 22, 2005. Frances was born on September 2, 1922, in Oroville, Washington. She was preceded in death by her father, John Nephi Finnie; mother, Adeline "Addie" Finnie; and sister, Bertha Dumont. Frances was raised and lived most of her life in the Glide, Oregon, area, making her home up Little River for many years, before moving to Roseburg after the death of her husband, Ike Allen. Frances is survived by her brother, John Finnie and his wife, Lois; her daughter, Donna Morgan and her husband, Jim; grandchildren, Vicki Hermes and her husband, Gary; Mike Morgan and his wife, Jaime; Darrell Morgan and his wife, Patti; seven great-grandchildren, Kim Coffey; Tahnee Morgan; Jessica Morgan; Brandon Morgan; Tyler Morgan; Kersten Morgan; and Paige Morgan. Her family also includes step-grandchildren, Lindsey Coffey; Ashley Folsom and her husband, Chris; Charles and Ashlee Jacobs; nephews Rick finnie and his wife, Candy; Curtis Finnie and his wife, Kim; nieces, Kathy Grubb and her husband, Ron; Karen McGarvey and her husband, Darrell. Frances will also be missed by her dear friend, Molly Morgan who visited her often during her long illness. Graveside services will be held on Wednesday, January 26, 2005, at 10 a.m., at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery. Father Cletus will officiate. WILSON'S CHAPEL OF THE ROSES handled arrangements.

Orville H. Lervold
LERVOLD, Orville H. — Age 74, passed away on January 19, 2005. Orv was born in Seattle, Washington, on May 24, 1930, to parents, Ben and Ragna who immigrated from Norway with one brother, Lars Lervold. He was the only child born in America. He grew up in Seattle with many friends and has been a member of the "Sons of Norway" in Seattle, since he was a child. He spent 2 years in the Military as a Motor Sergeant. Orv married Dorothy in 1955 with stepdaughter, Vickie and had one child Gary, in 1956. They moved around in early years from Seattle to Oakridge, Oregon, but settled in Roseburg in 1968. Orv worked for Roseburg Lumber as a Plant Engineer in Flakeboard Plant in Roseburg and later worked for Permaneer Corp. as a Plant Manager. Orv and Dorothy divorced in 1972, but remained friends and spent holidays together with their children. In 1976, he moved to Sacramento, California, where he and partner, Bill Forrest started a company called Serquin Industries. In 1991, he moved to Portland, Oregon, and took a position as a Field Service Engineer with Washington Iron Works owned by Coe Mfg., which Orv had worked for in 1958. Orv traveled all over the world while working for Washington Iron Works Engineering plants in Thailand, Japan, Ireland, Malaysia, Australia, Canada, and the USA. He loved to travel. Orv finally gave his notice to retire in March of 2004, at age 73 and was planning to move to Roseburg to be with his son and family. Two months after giving his retirement notice, it was discovered that he had a rare cancer. He moved to Roseburg, just a block away from his son’s family, where he was given six to eight months to live. “Having my father next to us was a blessing” says his son, Gary Leif. “We were able to spend every day together and he got to see a part of his son’s life and grandchildren. Vickie was able to have several visits from Seattle, to be with Dad. We were all very fortunate to be able to spend our day’s together, reminisce about all our wonderful memories and say our goodbyes, which some family’s never get to say.” Orville is survived by his son, Gary Leif and his wife, Carolyn; grandson, Garison of Roseburg; and his step-daughter, Vickie and her husband, Richard of Seattle; two nephews, Brian and Brant Larson of Standwood, Washington. Orv was in Hospice care during the last six weeks with Mercy Hospice, at his home. His son would like to thank Mercy Hospice for such wonderful job, in which they cared for his father like family. A special thanks to Bill Forrest for all the love and care that he gave to him, visiting him twice a day, every day. A memorial service will be held at Chapel of the Roses, on Harvard, at 4 p.m., on Saturday, January 29, 2005. In lieu of flowers, for those who would like to honor Dad, please send a memorial to Mercy Hospice in his name.
Donald LeRoy Fenn
FENN, Donald LeRoy — Age 66, went to be with the Lord on Sunday afternoon, January 23, 2005, after a long battle with bone cancer. He was an amazingly wonderful husband, father, and papa. He will be missed greatly by his family and friends. He was born and raised in Roseburg, Oregon, and lived in Melrose on the Fenn Farm. He enlisted in the Air Force in December 1957. He was in the service 4 years, 4 months, and 29 days, and received an honorable discharge. Stationed in several locations, the last being Orlando, Florida, where he met his wife to be, Wanda, at a small church in Orlando. They were married on June 17, 1962, in Lakeland, Florida. They honeymooned on the way back to Roseburg, where they lived on the family farm. Don did some farming, was a volunteer fireman, worked in the woods, the mill, and in various aspects of construction. For the last 23 years he worked for B&V Enterprises as construction coordinator. He was, over the years, actively involved in Melrose Community Church, serving as Sunday school teacher, brigade leader, deacon, usher, and Awana Director for Sparks. Don also attended Saturday night service at Sutherlin Family Church, where his son-on-law, Todd Fink was youth pastor for twelve years before he and his family were called to be missionaries in Mexico, where they have served for the last seven years. He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Wanda; four daughters, Letsy Fink and her husband, Todd Fink; Mitzi Hose and her husband, Lance Hose; Doy Birdsell and Amber Summers; twelve grandchildren, Cye and his wife, Kristi; Cal; Joel; Treavor; Aaron; Tyanna; Brandon; Nichole; Logan; Kayla; Sierra; two sisters, Sylvia Cano; Virginia Richardson; one brother, Ernie Fenn; dad, Joel R. Fenn. He was preceded in death by his mother, Norma Fenn in August 2004. A memorial service will be held on January 30, 2005, at Melrose Community Church, at 3 p.m., with Pastors Mike Ruyle and Paul Glazner officiating. Thomas Van Jacobs
JACOBS, Thomas Van — Passed away peacefully in his home in Winston, Oregon, on Friday, January 21, 2005. He was born on October 1, 1914, in Hochatown, Oklahoma, to parents, Brasille and Minnie (Rhoden) Jacobs. He moved to Oregon in 1948 where he was employed in the lumber industry until his retirement. He was a member of the Lumber and Sawmill Workers Union, Local 2949. He enjoyed hunting and fishing in his younger years and loved to share those experiences with his family and friends. As he grew older, he enjoyed gardening with his son and daughter. He was preceded in death by both parents, four brothers, two sisters, his loving wife, Letha, and a small granddaughter. He is survived by one brother, Beau Jacobs of Mesquite, Texas; one son, Thomas J. Jacobs and his wife, Cheryl of Glide, Oregon; one daughter, Barbara Bates and her husband, Bob of Winston; a grandson, Shannon Jacobs and his wife, Dana of Springfield, Oregon; two granddaughters, Sandi Mecum and
her husband, Les of Roseburg; Jenice Cunningham of Roseburg; great-grandchildren, Jacob V. Lassen of Roseburg; Kira and Brian Jacobs of Springfield, Oregon. He had one special niece, Irene Lee and her husband, Norman of Federal Way, Washington, who never failed to stop and visit with him while in the area. Other survivors include numerous nephews and nieces. He lived and enjoyed all of his 90 years. We will miss his good sense of humor and his boisterous laughter. He will be remembered by all those who loved him. At his request there will be no services. Arrangements are under the direction of Taylor's Family Chapel.

Lawrence Allen (Nick) Niccoli
NICCOLI, Lawrence Allen (Nick) — Age 73, past away January 22, 2005, in Roseburg, Oregon. He was born to James and Anna (Morfield) Niccoli, June 15, 1931, in Canon City, Colorado. He retired from McDonnell Douglas, Long Beach, California, in 1944. He was preceded in death by his wife, Clarice in 2003; they enjoyed 24 years together. Nick will be remembered in our hearts and loved for the wonderful memories he gives us. This is for a man who gave us strength when we were weak. A man we look to in times of need. A man who taught us about life. A man who unconditionally loved his wife. This is for a man who was truly loved. A man who listened and gave so much. A man we will miss every day. A man, we know, is in a better place. Nick is survived by his sister, Sylvia Graham; niece, Virginia Mallory; daughter, Vicky Fausnacht, all of Myrtle Creek; daughter, Debbie of Anchorage, Alaska; son, Larry Niccoli of Profits Town, Illinois; step-sons, Rich and Rayme Warren; and granddaughter, Nichole Stairs of Myrtle Creek. Nick has seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Visitation for family and friends will be held on Friday, January 28, 2005, from 4 p.m. until 6 p.m. at Myrtle Creek Family Funeral Home. There will be a funeral service on Saturday, January 29, 2005, at 2 p.m. at the Tri City Church of Christ with Pastor Dan Jocoy officiating. Private interment will follow at the I.O.O.F. Brian Wesley Flynn
FLYNN, Brian Wesley — Age 25, of Winston, Oregon, passed away between January 7, and January 23, 2005, while trying to find his way home during a winter storm. He was born on July 18, 1979, in Fountain Valley, California, the son of Robert Flynn and Denise Bough. He lived eighteen years of his life in Oregon and was raised and educated in Camas Valley, Oregon. Brian loved his family very much and was a very hard worker. He enjoyed hiking and fishing with his family. Although Brian had some tough times in his life, he was a very loving and caring person and had recently gotten his life together, and was looking forward to getting married. He is survived by his fiancée, Jamie Atteberry and his son, Kyle Flynn, both of Winston; his mother, Denise Bough and step-father, Randy of Kokomo, Indiana; his father, Robert Flynn of Roseburg, Oregon; step-grandparents, Carrie and Jerry Johnson of Kokomo; in-laws, J.C. and Sharon Atteberry of Winston; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Amy and Scott Merril of Portland, Oregon; Mark and Jennifer Stanider and their children, Allyssa, Olivia, and Rebecca, all of Roseburg; Trina and Jason Mayfield, and their son, Jacob of Vacaville, California; aunt and uncle, Marquitta and Bill Mealer of Kokomo; uncle, Doug Flynn of California; cousins, Parrisha and Bruce Miller; Melissa and Clarence Fletcher; Aysha and Jason Guffey, all of Indiana; and Jennifer, Heather and Clayton Kolts, all of California. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, January 29, 2005, at 10 a.m. at the Winston Four Square Church. Officiating will be Pastor Jerry Smart. Beverly Ann Rose
ROSE, Beverly Ann — Passed away of natural causes on January 25, 2005, in Sun City West, Arizona. Beverly was born on October 20, 1932, in Myrtle Creek, Oregon. She worked for Placer County in California as an Assistant County Purchasing Agent. Beverly is a former President and lifetime active member of the Soroptomist International, in Auburn, California. She actively worked in the club every year on award winning parade floats, and the shelter for battered women and children. Survivors include her husband, Charles R. Rose; children, Stephanie Dietrich; Victoria Rose and Michael Rose; brother, Phillip Shelton; and eight grandchildren. Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, January 31, 2005, at the National Memorial Cemetery of Arizona, in Phoenix, Arizona. SUNLAND MORTUARY in Sun City, Arizona, is handling the arrangements.

Dean Rodney Burkett
BURKETT, Dean Rodney— Age 74, of Roseburg, Oregon, passed away in Portland, Oregon, on January 25, 2005. He was born on December 13, 1930, in Iowa City Iowa, to Loyal and Nellie Burkett. He married Dolores Oakes on May 22, 1965. Dean served nine years in the U.S. Army. He was decorated with a National Defense Medal from the Korean War. Dean also served in the National Guard. Dean and Dolores had one son, Ty Allen Burkett. He also raised four step-children and a grandson. Dean was a bull rider in his early days and would travel with his family to the rodeos. He also was a carpenter, plumber and painter. He was a very talented man. Dean and Dolores loved to play cards together. He is survived by his wife of 40 years, Dolores; sons, Ty Burkett of Portland; Jebb Burkett of Nevada Robert Burkett of Colorado; four step-children, Sandra Skipper of Livermore, California; Patricia Pekors of Coos Bay, Oregon; Linda Parker of Blythe, California; James McDonald of Desert Hot Springs, California; grandson, Michael Burkett of Roseburg; seventeen grandchildren, thirteen great grandchildren; two brothers, Daryl of Texas and Jay of Iowa. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, and one son, Dean Burkett. Graveside services will be held at the V.A. National Cemetery in Roseburg at 2 p.m., on Monday, January 31, 2005. All of our prayers will be with Dean, his family and friends.
Wesley Charles ‘Chuck’ Hoke
HOKE, Wesley Charles “Chuck” — Age 43, of Winston, Oregon, passed away on Wednesday, January 26, 2005. He was born on September 22, 1961, in Redmond, Oregon, the son of Wesley Carl and Carol (Wright) Hoke. Chuck was raised and educated in Winston before joining the U.S. Marines in 1979. While in the Marines he was an antitank assaultman and a dragon gunner, he was also a postal clerk in the Marines. He graduated from Umpqua Community College and George Fox University. He married the love of his life, Emilee Nelson on September 28, 1988, in Olympia, Washington. Chuck worked as a contractor for a few years before he was injured and most recently had been employed with the Roseburg Veterans Administration. Mr. Hoke was a very devoted and loving family man and loved to fish and do carpentry work. He is survived by his wife, Emilee and their three children, Samantha, Jessica and Brooke, all of Winston. He also has two children, Douglas and Justin of Florida; his parents, Wesley and Carol of Winston; one sister, DeeLawna Aragon of Sutherlin, Oregon; one brother, Donald Hoke of Airway Heights, Washington; one grandchild and numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held on Monday, January 31, 2005, at the Winston Community Baptist Church at 11 a.m. Officiating will be Pastor Steve Schenewerk. Interment will be at the Civil Bend Pioneer Cemetery with services rendered by the VFW District #12 Honor Guard. Friends and family may pay their respects on Friday, January 28, 2005, between 2 p.m. and 6 p.m., at Taylor’s Family Chapel. Jerry Martin Huntley
HUNTLEY, Jerry Martin— Passed away on January 25, 2005, of heart related complications. He was 60. Jerry was born on December 10, 1944, in Portland, Oregon, to Hugh and Minnie Huntley. He married Judith Brandt on December 29, 1967, in Oregon City, Oregon. Justin, the pride of his life, was born on October 24, 1975, in Ontario, Oregon. Jerry graduated from Franklin High School in 1962. In 1971, he received his Bachelor’s Degree from Portland State University. He began his teaching career at Nyssa High School where he also coached various sports. From there he moved to Adrian High School where he taught and coached for four years. In 1978, he moved with his family to Sutherlin, Oregon, where he has been teaching and coaching ever since. Even after his retirement in 1998, Jerry continued to coach and substitute. Athletics have always been a part of his life. He played football at Franklin High School. In 1968, he coached Pop Warner Football. At Nyssa, Adrian and Sutherlin, his sports included football, boys and girls basketball, wrestling, tennis (which he knew nothing about, but learned), and track. In 1971, he and his wife bought their first Tennessee Walking Horse, Pretty, a direct descendent of Joe Albertson's stud from Idaho. She just passed away last year. He went on to raise and train several winning horses. He and his family enjoyed traveling to many parts of Oregon for trail riding with their horses. Many times these trips involved friends who would sit around the campfire and have a great time at night. He also attended the National Tennessee Walking Horse Celebration in Shelbyville, Tennessee, several times with our friend and trainer, Frank White. His horses were near and dear to him always. Jerry leaves behind his wife and son and his son's wife, Mellissa as well as his brother, Bill and wife, Barbara; brother, Lee and wife, Esther; nieces, Deanna; Janet; Vicki; nephews, Kevin and Carl; sister-in-law, Audrey and husband, Steve; nephew, David; brother-in-law, Randy and fiancée, Kathy; and nieces, Sheree and Sharla. His mother-in-law, Loraine Brandt will miss him greatly. There will be a Celebration of Life at 1 p.m. in the Sutherlin High School Gym on Saturday, January 29, 2005. Donations may be made at that time for the establishment of the Jerry and Judy Huntley Endowment Scholarship. This scholarship will be set-up to help students seeking an education endorsement for teaching.

Audrene Ellen Hibdon
HIBDON, Audrene Ellen — Age 74, of Myrtle Creek, Oregon, passed away on January 26, 2005, at a local medical facility. She was born on October 29, 1930, in Dover, Arkansas, to Thomas Marshall and Rhoda Caroline Boze. She married Walton C. (Dub) Hibdon on September 3, 1950, in Reno, Nevada. They lived in Napa, California, where she was a psychiatric technician until she retired in 1987. They moved to Myrtle Creek where they enjoyed hunting, fishing, and camping with family and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband of 53 years, Walton; her parents, one brother, one sister, and one grandson. She is survived by three daughters, Lou Howard of Bryan, Texas; Dodie Fowler and husband, Roy of Myrtle Creek; and Myrna Jones of Myrtle Creek; eight grandchildren, eighteen great-grandchildren, three sisters, Norma Horton and husband, Brad of Prospect, Oregon; Frances Frost and husband, Richard of California; Charleen Trimble and husband, Ray of Florida; one brother, Thomas (Butch) Boze Jr. of California; step-mother, Velma Boze of Arkansas; and numerous nieces and nephews. She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her. Services will be held on Monday, January 31, 2005, at 11 a.m., at the Roseburg National Cemetery. WOOLLEY, Douglas Riley — At his request, no services will be held for Douglas Riley Woolley, age 83, of Eugene, Oregon. Douglas was born on April 1, 1921, in San Diego, California, to Ernest E. and Agnes Woolley. He passed away on January 25, 2005, in Roseburg, Oregon. Douglas grew up on Smith River and graduated from Drain High School. He was a radio repairman during WW II. He is survived by one daughter, Sue Garris of Red Hill, Oregon; one granddaughter, and two great-grandsons; step-daughters, Jan Cass of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and Susan Vernon of Friday Harbor, Washington; step-grandson and a step-granddaughter and one great-granddaughter. Douglas was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, Bea Knight of Drain; Pat Woody of Grants Pass; one brother, Ernest C. Woolley of Eugene; and his second wife, Evelyn Vernon. Reynold G. ‘Ray’ deFreitas
deFreitas, Reynold G. ‘Ray’ — Age 81, of Camas Valley, Oregon, passed away on Wednesday, January 26, 2005. He was born on February 26, 1923, in Paramaribo, Suriname, South America, the son of Joseph and Heloise (Hirschfeld) deFreitas. He was raised and educated in South America, and at an early age, realized he was born to be an artist. He was united in marriage to the love of his life, Georgine in 1945. They moved to Aruba, in the Caribbean, in 1946 where Ray worked as a staff artist for Standard Oil. In 1957, they moved to the United States, settling in Hayward, California, and he continued working as an artist. He made Oregon his home in 1976, and has lived in Camas Valley for many years. Mr. deFreitas loved books and was an avid reader. He is survived by his wife, Georgine of Camas Valley; a son, John deFreitas of Roseburg, Oregon; two daughters, Anne McEndree of Sonora, California and Maureen deFreitas of Tuolumne, California; a brother, Frank of New York; grandchildren, Renee; Jennifer; Robert; Marcus; Gina; Jennifer; and Sherry; great-grandchildren, Robert; Ricky; Randy; Damien; Lucas; and one great great-granddaughter. Private family services will be held.
Larry Gordon Davidson
DAVIDSON, Larry Gordon — Age 72, of Yuma, Arizona, formerly of Winston, Oregon, passed away on January 20, 2005. He was born on June 8, 1932, in Meriden, Iowa, the son of Clarence and Jeanette Davidson. Larry served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War aboard the U.S.S. Los Angeles from 1951-1954. He was a logger and was employed as a supervisor for Allen and Gibbons of Canyonville, Oregon, prior to his retirement. He is survived by his wife, Maxine Revard Davidson; three daughters, Coni and her husband, Richard Hastings of Winston; Kristi Johnson and her husband, Dave Popken of Houston, Texas; Cindy Hampton of Quartz Hill, California; step-daughter, Julie Allen and her husband, Jason of Spanaway, Washington; three sons, Chris Davidson and his wife, Anne of Grants Pass, Oregon; Skip Davidson and his wife, Patti of Grants Pass; George Davidson and his wife, Cindy of Jackson, Montana; fifteen grandchildren, three great-grandchildren; three brothers, Don Davidson and his wife, Jan of Reedsport, Oregon; Jack Davidson and his wife, Edith of Shelton, Washington; Glen Davidson and his wife, Sparky of Modesto, California; three sisters, Coleen Weaver and her husband, Arlen of Myrtle Creek, Oregon; Carol Williams of Lake Oswego, Oregon; Dorothy White and her husband, Murrell of Myrtle Creek, Oregon. He is preceded in death by his parents, his previous wife, Marge Such Davidson; three brothers, Chris; Bill; and Dale; three sisters, Helen Wilson; Maxine Weaver; and Pearl Davidson. Graveside services will be held at the I.O.O.F. Cemetery in Lebanon, Oregon, on Saturday, March 12, 2005, at 11 a.m.

FUHRMANN, Karl A. — Age 95, of Roseburg, Oregon, passed away Thursday, January 27, 2005 at his home. Those who wish may pay their respects on Monday, January 31, 2005 from 9:00 am until 5:00 pm at WILSON’S CHAPEL OF THE ROSES. Graveside services will be held on Tuesday, February 1, 2005 at 2:00 pm within the grounds of Roseburg Memorial Gardens. Wilson’s Chapel of the Roses is in charge of arrangements.
Orville H. Lervold
Lervold, Orville H. — Age 74, passed away on January 19, 2005. Orv was born in Seattle, Washington, on May 24, 1930, to parents, Ben and Ragna who immigrated from Norway with one brother, Lars Lervold. He was the only child born in America. He grew up in Seattle with many friends and has been a member of the "Sons of Norway" in Seattle, since he was a child. He spent 2 years in the Military as a Motor Sergeant. Orv married Dorothy in 1955 with stepdaughter, Vickie and had one child Gary, in 1956. They moved around in early years from Seattle to Oakridge, Oregon, but settled in Roseburg in 1968. Orv worked for Roseburg Lumber as a Plant Engineer in Flakeboard Plant in Roseburg and later worked for Permaneer Corp. as a Plant Manager. Orv and Dorothy divorced in 1972, but remained friends and spent holidays together with their children. In 1976, he moved to Sacramento, California, where he and partner, Bill Forrest started a company called Serquin Industries. In 1991, he moved to Portland, Oregon, and took a position as a Field Service Engineer with Washington Iron Works owned by Coe Mfg., which Orv had worked for in 1958. Orv traveled all over the world while working for Washington Iron Works Engineering plants in Thailand, Japan, Ireland, Malaysia, Australia, Canada, and the USA. He loved to travel. Orv finally gave his notice to retire in March of 2004, at age 73 and was planning to move to Roseburg to be with his son and family. Two months after giving his retirement notice, it was discovered that he had a rare cancer. He moved to Roseburg, just a block away from his son’s family, where he was given six to eight months to live. “Having my father next to us was a blessing” says his son, Gary Leif. “We were able to spend every day together and he got to see a part of his son’s life and grandchildren. Vickie was able to have several visits from Seattle, to be with Dad. We were all very fortunate to be able to spend our day’s together, reminisce about all our wonderful memories and say our goodbyes, which some family’s never get to say.” Orville is survived by his son, Gary Leif and his wife, Carolyn; grandson, Garison of Roseburg; and his step-daughter, Vickie and her husband, Richard of Seattle; two nephews, Brian and Brant Larson of Standwood, Washington. Orv was in Hospice care during the last six weeks with Mercy Hospice, at his home. His son would like to thank Mercy Hospice for such wonderful job, in which they cared for his father like family. A special thanks to Bill Forrest for all the love and care that he gave to him, visiting him twice a day, every day. A memorial service was held at Chapel of the Roses on Saturday, January 29, 2005. In lieu of flowers, for those who would like to honor Dad, please send a memorial to Mercy Hospice in his name.
