Lambert Louis Le Loup
LE LOUP, Lambert Louis — Lovingly known as Ray, passed away on Sunday, December 12, 2004, at the age of 55. He was born on July 18, 1949, in Enumclaw, Washington. He moved to San Jose, California, at an early age with his parents, Earl and Dorothy Palmer, where he was raised and educated. He entered the U.S. Army in 1969 and served our country with the 101st Airborne Division in Vietnam. After his honorable discharge in 1975, he returned to California, settling in Sonoma. He worked in the construction industry as a roofer. Ray was married to the love of his life, Joan. He enjoyed the outdoors, including hunting and fishing. He also enjoyed woodworking and motorcycles. He is survived by his wife, Joan; three sons, Christopher of Clearlake, California; Raymond of Yuma, Arizona; Michael of Reno, Nevada; eight sisters, Donna; Bonita; Pat; Pam; Geri; Penny; Lorie; Dorothy. He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Betty Gene. Graveside memorial services will be held on Monday, December 20, 2004, at 11:00 a.m., at the Roseburg VA National Cemetery. Officiating will be the VFW District Twelve Honor Guard. Arrangements are under the direction of Taylor's Family Chapel.
Bruce Clifford Timleck
TIMLECK, Bruce Clifford — Age 76, of Myrtle Creek, Oregon, passed away on Tuesday, December 14, 2004. He was born on January 27, 1928, in Seattle, Washington, the son of Clifford and Grace (Sullivan) Timleck. He was raised and educated in Seattle and worked as a partsman at N.A.P.A. for many years. He was united in marriage to Lynne Capdeville on July 1, 1960, in San Francisco, California. They moved to Douglas County in 1983, settling in Myrtle Creek. Bruce was an avid reader and enjoyed working on automobiles. He was very loved and will be deeply missed. He is survived by his wife of over 44 years, Lynne of Myrtle Creek; a daughter, Theresa Haney and her husband, Richard; son, Tom Timleck and John Timleck, all of Myrtle Creek and Jim Timleck and his wife, Edna of Curtin, Oregon; grandsons, Michael and Anthony. He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister and a nephew. Private family services are under the direction of Taylor's Family Chapel.

Loeta Ray
RAY, Loeta — Age 84, went home to be with her Lord on December 18, 2004, in McMinnville, Oregon. She was born on December 16, 1920, in Stillwater, Oklahoma, to Sam and Bea McBrayer. She was preceded in death by husband, Melvin Ray; her parents; and brother, Jaunice McBrayer. She is survived by her children, Judy Lund and her husband, Ken of McMinnville; Georgia Lockman and her husband, Dave of Roseburg, Oregon; Melva Frost-Gorman and her husband, Harry of Seattle, Washington; Jim Ray and his wife, Gay Lynn of Port Angeles, Washington; eight grandchildren, Ralph; Darla; Christy; Debbie; Kelly; Tim; Tony; and Adam; twelve great-grandchildren; and lifetime friend, Jewell Parton. Loeta moved with her family from Oklahoma to San Fernando, California, in 1931. There she met and married her husband, and true love, Melvin, in 1939. They moved to Oregon in 1947, living in Mayger, Oakridge, and Roseburg, where they raised their four children. After Melvin passed away, she moved to LaPine, Oregon, and finally to McMinnville. Loeta enjoyed her church, crocheting, ceramics, playing her piano, camping, and most especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was a member of Valley Baptist Church and loved her church and her Lord immensely. She will be missed by all. Memorial services will be held at a later date. Carmelita Marie Thompson
THOMPSON, Carmelita Marie — Age 69, of Corvallis, Oregon, passed away on December 19, 2004. She was born on September 10, 1935, in Twin Falls, Idaho, to parents, Carmello and Ellen (Butler) Mendezona. Carmelita married Edwin D. Thompson Jr. in Folkston, Georgia, on September 2, 1969. Carmelita lived most of her life in the Roseburg and Wilbur, Oregon, areas. She moved to Eugene, Oregon, in 1988, and spent 16 years there. She moved to Corvallis in 2001. Carmelita was manager of Springfield Spas for 13 years. She was an avid gardener and enjoyed reading and learning about spiritual growth. Carmelita was a personal and family growth counselor. She is survived her husband of 35 years, Edwin D. Thompson Jr. of Eugene; two daughters, Carly Baker of Keizer, Oregon; Sheila Kryl of Eugene; three sons, Edwin Thompson III of Turner, Oregon; Trace Thompson of Keiser; Dale Kern of Corvallis; sixteen grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Carmelita was preceded in death by a brother, Manual Mendezona; sister, Ramona Sorenson; daughters, Sabrina and Dawnette. A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, December 22, 2004, at 10 a.m., at the Spiritual Growth Center, 390 Vernal St., Eugene, Oregon. Mausoleum entombment will be at Roseburg Memorial Gardens.
Dorothy Leigh Skenzick
SKENZICK, Dorothy Leigh — Passed away December 16, 2004, after a 10 year struggle with Alzheimer’s. She had been residing at Callahan Court the last four years where she had received wonderful loving care. She was born June 27, 1921, to John and Lenore McDowell in Calumet, Minnesota. She married Samuel Skenzick on June 21, 1946. She grew up and lived on “the iron range” in Minnesota. In 1958, Dorothy, Sam and Steve settled in Roseburg. Dorothy was blind for 57 years from an eye disease. It did not stop her from having a wonderful life with her beloved husband at her side always. She was a member of the LDS Church. She was active with the local and state blind groups and was president of the state association for 2 years. She was also active with the Lions Eye group and gave many talks. Dorothy ran the candy stand at the Douglas County Court House from 1975 to 1988. She knew every candy, gum and cigarette and could grab it in a second. She said she could tell the denomination of the money by the “Presidents whiskers”. She loved her job and being involved with the Court House and the activities. She was very politically minded so it was the perfect place for her to work. There was nothing she couldn’t do, except drive. She even rode a bike with her daughter-in-law instructing her where to go. She would have a few crashes, but would get up laughing ready to go again. She could knit and made many afghans to donate to the needy. She was a wonderful cook and baker, her specialty was “Lemon Angel Pie”. Survivors include son, Steven Skenzick and daughter-in-law, Penny of Roseburg; grandson, Nick and his wife, Elizabeth of Eugene, Oregon; brother, William McDowell of San Jose, California; sister, Margaret Becicka of Kansas. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Samuel and brother, John McDowell of Seattle, Washington. In a private family service, Dorothy was laid to rest next to her husband, Samuel at Valley View Cemetery near Sutherlin, Oregon. Memorials may be made in memory of Dorothy Skenzick to the Mercy Hospice Program or the Lions Sight Foundation. Arrangements have been entrusted to Taylor’s Family Mortuary in Winston, Oregon.
George Edward Lorentz
LORENTZ, George Edward — Age 68, of Roseburg, Oregon, passed away on Saturday, December 18, 2004. He was born on February 12, 1936, in Dewey, Wisconsin, the son of Conrad and Marie (Miller) Lorentz. He moved with his family in 1948 to Oregon, settling in Oregon City, Oregon, where he was raised and educated. He worked with his father who was a rock mason and later entered the construction industry. George was a foreman for heavy construction and worked on large projects in the Northwest, including the Seattle Space Needle. He retired in 1993 after forty-four years of heavy construction. George constructed a children’s camp, Camp Adams in Molalla, Oregon, and also the Lorentz Center for Life Flight at Emanuel Hospital in Portland, Oregon. He was a member of the AGC Operating Engineers Local #701 in Portland. He enjoyed gardening and building things for his house and yard. George was united to his wife, Delldee “Dee” Pier on December 5, 1997, in Winston, Oregon. They moved from Bandon, Oregon, to Roseburg four years ago. He leaves his wife, Dee of Roseburg; two daughters, Teresa of Montana; Barbara of Alaska; two step-children, Larinda of St. Helens, Oregon; Stacey of Missoula, Montana; brother, Theodore Lorentz and his wife, Judy of Mesa, Arizona; sister-in-law, Laura Ward of Roseburg; several grandchildren; his best buddies, Nacho and Notchie. Private interment will be at the Mesa City Cemetery in Mesa, Arizona. Arrangements are under the direction of TAYLOR’S FAMILY CHAPEL.
Bradley Burton Bartholomew
BARTHOLOMEW, Bradley Burton — Age 79, of Roseburg, Oregon, passed away on Thursday, December 16, 2004, in a local hospital. He was born on October 29, 1925, in Los Angeles, California. Mr. Bartholomew served in the U.S. Navy and later in the U.S. Army. After retiring from the military, Mr. Bartholomew worked for many years as a civilian on military bases. The Bartholomew's lived in Seattle, Washington and California, before moving to Roseburg in 1998. Survivors include his wife, Sumiko Bartholomew; children, James Bartholomew of California; Richard Bartholomew of Texas; Terri Bartholomew of California; sister, Penny Holt of California; brother, Herbert Bartholomew of Arizona; one grandson, Matthew Bartholomew; and numerous nieces and nephews. Private cremation rites will be held. Private inurnment will be in the Roseburg National Cemetery. WILSON'S CHAPEL OF THE ROSES is in charge of arrangements.
Opal L. Harpole
HARPOLE, Opal L. — Age 90, formerly of Roseburg, Oregon, passed away on Saturday, December 18, 2004, in Medford, Oregon. She was born on November 2, 1914, in Iowa, moving to Oregon when she was 12. She lived in the Willamette Valley for 19 years, moving to Roseburg in 1945. Recently she moved to the Rogue Valley to be close to her son. She was married to Loris Bowman for 17 years. She remarried in 1953 to Lot Leo Harpole (known as "Buss" or "Blackie") until his death in 2002. Mrs. Harpole had many friends and enjoyed playing cards and socializing with them. She often spent winters in Arizona with a group of friends who traveled together. She was a homemaker and donated many hours helping others in the Roseburg area. Survivors include a son, Stephen Bowman of Ashland, Oregon; 13 grandchildren; and step-grandchildren and many great and great great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a son, William E. Bowman and a step-son, David Harpole. A private service for Opal will be held at a later date. Arrangements were handled by Memory Gardens Mortuary.
Albert Dean Applegate Jr.
APPLEGATE Jr., Albert Dean — Age 77, of Yoncalla, Oregon, passed away on Sunday, December 19, 2004. He was born on June 11, 1927, in Eugene, Oregon, to parents, Albert Dean and Ruth Elizabeth (Heagney) Applegate. He graduated from University High School in Eugene and Oregon State College in Corvallis, Oregon. Albert married Charlotte Louise Fehly on February 25, 1950. He served in the Marine Corps Reserve, the U.S. Navy SeaBees and as a Civilian Personnel Specialist for the U.S. Dept. of the Navy. Albert worked for the Oregon State Forestry Department, and the U.S. Forest Service. He was a life member of the National Rifle Association and the Marine Corps Association. Albert served as the Mayor of the city of Yoncalla, Yoncalla City Councilman, and was on the Board of Directors for the Yoncalla Rural Fire Protection District, Modoc Council - Boy Scouts of America, and Kitsap County Chapter of the American Red Cross. Albert was a resident of Yoncalla for forty years. He also lived in Eugene, Corvallis, Dallas, Prineville, Klamath Falls, and Lakeview, Oregon; Camp Pendleton and Oceanside, California, Bangor and Wenatchee, Washington, and Guantanamo Bay, Cuba. Albert was preceded in death by his wife, Charlotte on September 3, 2003. He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Robert L. and Marilyn Applegate; granddaughter, Jennifer A. Opheim and her husband, Michael; great-grandson, Scott Opheim, all of Yoncalla. A private family gathering is planned. Interment will be at Yoncalla-Applegate Pioneer Cemetery in Yoncalla.
Roland ‘Moe’ Morris Welch
WELCH, Roland “Moe” Morris —Age 62, of Winston, Oregon, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, December 19, 2004. Moe was born on August 31, 1942, in Bakersfield, California, the son of M.L. and Lillion (Bishop) Welch. He grew up in Tenmile, Oregon, and was raised well by his father and step-mom, Eva. He was a very loving father and grandfather. As a young man, Moe enjoyed working on cars with his father and hunting. He was a mechanic for thirty years and always enjoyed seeing a good vehicle. He loved to watch “The Price Is Right” in his spare time. There was never a dull moment for him. He had a zest for life. He will be deeply missed by all he loved. He is survived by his two sons, Trevor Welch and his wife, Mary; Duane Welch; daughter, Stacie Stramiska; two sisters, Jane Garcia of New Mexico; Dora Simpson of Winston; brother, Verlie Welch of Roseburg, Oregon; two step-sisters, Louise Fritz of Winston; Brenda Gardiner of Tenmile; five grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, December 23, 2004, at 11 a.m., at Taylor’s Family Chapel with Pastor Vance Culpepper officiating. Interment will be at the Tenmile Cemetery at a later time.
Phyllis M. Pharis
PHARIS, Phyllis M. — Age 78, a resident of Riddle, Oregon, passed away at her home on Friday, December 17, 2004. She was born in Los Angeles, California, on August 29, 1926, to Sam and Mary Atturio Simone. She was married to Charles E. Pharis in Prescott, Arizona, on December 22, 1947. They lived in Southern California for many years and then in Citrus Heights, California, before coming to Riddle to live 13 years ago. They would have been married 57 years today, December 22, 2004. Phyllis loved gardening, especially roses. She also liked to cook and enjoyed going to the beach in Southern California. Most of all, she was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother and completely enjoyed every minute of it. Surviving are her husband, Charles E. Pharis of Riddle; two daughters, Kellie Gross of Myrtle Creek, Oregon; Ginger Pharis of Riddle; two sons, Jeffery Pharis of Sacramento, California; Robin Pharis of Folsom, California; seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents and sister, Frances Vick. No services are scheduled at this time. Disposition was by cremation. Mountain View Memorial Chapel in Myrtle Creek is assisting the family.
Theodore ‘Ted’ Cecil Russell
RUSSELL, Theodore “Ted” Cecil— Age 65, of Tenmile, Oregon, passed away on Monday, December 20, 2004. Ted was born on March 2, 1939, in South Bend, Washington, the son of Cecil and Edna (Parcell) Russell. He and his wife, moved to Portland, Oregon, in 1994, before settling in the Tenmile-Winston, Oregon, area in 1996. He loved his family, gardening, fishing, hunting and camping. Mr. Russell also took pride in his landscaping work and the work he had been doing recently on the family tree. He was also a member of the Moose Lodge. He is survived by his loving wife, Henrietta (Warnes) of Tenmile, whom he married in 1967, in Shelton, Washington; four children, Rhett Russell of Olympia, Washington; Roxanne Russell of Maryville, Tennessee; Rose Worgum and her husband, Jeff of Elkgrove, California; Hank Russell and his wife, Dawn of Olympia; three brothers, Richard and his wife, Marie of Olympia; Jerry of Crescent City, California; and Calvin and his wife, Carol of Spokane, Washington; one sister, Clara Lee Russell and her husband, Bob of Seattle; four grandchildren, Alec of Olympia; Philip and Jack of Elkgrove; and Kui of Olympia; and numerous nieces and nephews. A brother, Robert and a granddaughter, Grace preceded Ted in death. There will be no services held at this time. Arrangements are under the direction of TAYLOR'S FAMILY CHAPEL.
Loren Earl Rogers
ROGERS, Loren Earl — Age 84, passed away on Friday, December 17, 2004, at a local hospital with his loving family by his side. Loren was born on February 13, 1920, in East Peroria, Illinois, to Pearl and John Rogers. After meeting the love of his life, Mary Siders, they were married on July 20, 1940, in Davenport, Iowa. Together, they decided to start the roots of their family on a farm of 160+ acres in LaRose, Illinois. There are many fond memories of farming life from 1942 through 1955. Loren served his country by joining the Navy during W.W.II. and was honorably discharged in May of 1946. After moving off the farm and living in San Diego, California, Loren decided to work in construction in Saudi Arabia from 1975 through 1978. Then Loren and his wife, moved to Roseburg, Oregon, in 1978. Loren enjoyed being faithful to St. Paul Lutheran Church and his family. Loren was a baptized Christian and a member of the St. Paul Lutheran Church for 26 years. Loren enjoyed going to the Y.M.C.A. the past 20 years on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday to lift weights, play racquetball, and keep in shape. Loren worked for the Douglas County Parks from 1982 through 2001 when he retired. When he could fit it in, he would enjoy fishing. Loren is survived by his wife, Mary of 64 years; daughter, Marjorie of Roseburg; daughter, Lorraine of Roseburg; son, Joey of San Diego; brother, Harry of Peroria; sister, Mildred of Florida; grandchildren, Janet; Tammy; Bobby; Jimmy; Mark; Mike; Sherry; Laurie; Delia; Dawn; Letitia; Nova; and Boone; 20 great-grandchildren; five great great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews, cousins, and a host of friends. Loren was preceded in death by his parents, John and Pearl; four brothers, one sister, and one grandson, Charles Loren in 2002. Memorial services are planned for Thursday, December 30, 2004, at 2 p.m., at St. Paul Lutheran, here in Roseburg, with Pastor Phillip Brandt officiating. Paul Sidney Linderman
LINDERMAN, Paul Sidney — Age 73, of Sutherlin, Oregon, passed away at his home on January 18, 2005. He was born on September 12, 1931, in New Kensington, Pennsylvania, to James and Margaret (Clark) Linderman. Paul served in the United States Navy during the Korean War. On October 30, 1954, in Tarentum, Pennsylvania, Paul married Ethel Lucille Fleming. He moved to Anaheim, California, after leaving the service. Paul worked at Kimberly Clark Products before going to work at Delco Battery as a supervisor. After 23 years with Delco Battery, he retired and moved to Oregon in 1983 so he could hunt and fish. Paul was a member of the Loyal Order of the Moose in Anaheim, California, and in Roseburg, Oregon. He enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren, fishing and hunting for deer, elk and bear. Paul liked to cook and was known for all the great holiday meals that he made and all the practical jokes he pulled on people. Paul was a member of Christ Lutheran Church. Survivors include his wife of 50 years, Ethel Linderman of Sutherlin; children, Paul Linderman and his wife, Dayle of Winchester, Oregon; Margaret Medon and her husband, Richard of Erin, New York; grandchildren, Michael Kennedy; Jarred Newell; Scott Carter and his wife, Kristen; Stephanie Field and her husband, Samuel; Andy Linderman and Kimbaree Linderman; eight great-grandchildren; sisters, Mary Miller of Sutherlin; Eileen LaPanne and her husband, Roger of Florida; brother, Fred Linderman and his wife, Laura of Oregon; special friends, Marshall and Elaine Jennings of Sutherlin; Jim and Lynn McCabe of Portland, Oregon; and Pamela Stepp of Winchester, Oregon. Paul was preceded in death by his daughter, Darla Eldridge and his brother, James David Linderman. Visitation will be from 2 p.m. until 4 p.m. on Monday, January 24, 2005, at Chapel of the Firs. Zelma Mae Wilkins
WILKINS, Zelma Mae—Age 76, of Roseburg, Oregon, took the hand of Jesus early on Thursday, January 20, 2005. She was born on December 27, 1928, in Camden, New Jersey, the daughter of Ernest and Beatrice (Graham) Brewer. She was raised and educated in Berlin, New Jersey, where she met and married her only love, Alex on February 22, 1947. They spent their life together raising children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Zelma (Zel to friends) loved her family with all her heart and took it as her mission in life to pray for them daily. She read her bible everyday. Zel never knew a stranger and had a heart of gold. Walking through her home you can see her everywhere; she loved to decorate her home and yard for holidays and the seasons. Zel avidly read decorating magazines, enjoyed the birds in her backyard and loved to shop. She wanted to give gifts to everyone she loved. She enjoyed telling stories of the past and had a passion to someday write a book. Her church family was very dear to her. She was an avid member of Aglow and loved her Aglow sisters. She gathered strength and courage from her earnest love of the Lord. Her bible is worn and tattered as was her old body, but her soul is young and rejoicing. She is dearly missed by all who knew her. She is survived by her husband of 58 years, Alex; four sons, Alex Jr.; David; Fred; and Ken; daughter, Becky; great-grandson, Zachary, who lived with her; 17 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren. Services will be held on Monday, January 24, 2005, at 11 a.m., at New Life Christian Center in Roseburg.

Ralph B. Preston
PRESTON, Ralph B. — Age 81, passed away peacefully on Friday, January 21, 2005, at his home in Roseburg, Oregon. He was born on November 18, 1923, in Edmunds, Maine, to John and Mary (Benner) Preston. Ralph grew up in the area until he joined the C.C.C. (Civil Conservation Care) prior to moving to South Portland, Maine, where he worked for Todd Ship Building Co. He later served his country in the US Army with the 3rd Infantry Division in Europe during WWII. After his discharge in November 1945, Ralph returned to his home in Maine, where he met the love of his life, Alberta Francis Brown (Berta Baby). Alberta and he were married in July 1946 and moved to Roseburg. When you saw one, you most always saw the other. They have two children, Ron of Roseburg and Sandy of Medford, Oregon. Ralph and Alberta received Jesus Christ as their personal savior, and were baptized together at the 1st Baptist Church in Roseburg in November of 1954. Ralph retired in 1986 after working for the Douglas County Assessors Office for 30 years. During those early years he worked several part-time jobs, including painting houses, working for Western Auto, KRNR and KQEN radio stations. He served on several community boards and committees including the American Red Cross and the Salvation Army. Ralph received a certificate of license to preach the gospel through the 1st Conservative Baptist Church of Roseburg on September 1981. As a result, he spoke in many churches throughout the country and administered the ordinances of Baptism, the Lords supper, and officiated at many funerals and weddings. Since retirement, Ralph spent many hours as a volunteer Chaplin at Mercy Hospital, nursing and foster homes. One of his greatest joys in life was to be with someone when they prayed and asked for Jesus Christ to come into their life as Lord and Savior. He is survived by his wife, Alberta; son, Ron; daughter, Sandy; daughter-in-law, Sharon; son-in-law, Bob; and granddaughter, Heidi Eichman and her husband, Brent and their two daughters, Samantha and McKenzie. Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, January 26, 2005, at the Roseburg Alliance Church, 2165 NW Garden Valley Blvd, Roseburg, OR. Orville Lervold H.
LERVOLD, Orville H. — Age 74, passed away on January 19, 2005. Orv was born in Seattle, Washington, on May 24, 1930, to parents, Ben and Ragna who immigrated from Norway with one brother, Lars Lervold. He was the only child born in America. He grew up in Seattle with many friends and has been a member of the "Sons of Norway" in Seattle, since he was a child. He spent 2 years in the Military as a Motor Sergeant. Orv married Dorothy in 1955 with stepdaughter, Vickie and had one child Gary, in 1956. They moved around in early years from Seattle to Oakridge, Oregon, but settled in Roseburg in 1968. Orv worked for Roseburg Lumber as a Plant Engineer in Flakeboard Plant in Roseburg and later worked for Permaneer Corp. as a Plant Manager. Orv and Dorothy divorced in 1972, but remained friends and spent holidays together with their children. In 1976, he moved to Sacramento, California, where he and partner, Bill Forrest started a company called Serquin Industries. In 1991, he moved to Portland, Oregon, and took a position as a Field Service Engineer with Washington Iron Works owned by Coe Mfg., which Orv had worked for in 1958. Orv traveled all over the world while working for Washington Iron Works Engineering plants in Thailand, Japan, Ireland, Malaysia, Australia, Canada, and the USA. He loved to travel. Orv finally gave his notice to retire in March of 2004, at age 73 and was planning to move to Roseburg to be with his son and family. Two months after giving his retirement notice, it was discovered that he had a rare cancer. He moved to Roseburg, just a block away from his son’s family, where he was given six to eight months to live. “Having my father next to us was a blessing” says his son, Gary Leif. “We were able to spend every day together and he got to see a part of his son’s life and grandchildren. Vickie was able to have several visits from Seattle, to be with Dad. We were all very fortunate to be able to spend our day’s together, reminisce about all our wonderful memories and say our goodbyes, which some family’s never get to say.” Orville is survived by his son, Gary Leif and his wife, Carolyn; grandson, Garison of Roseburg; and his step-daughter, Vickie and her husband, Richard of Seattle; two nephews, Brian and Brant Larson of Standwood, Washington. Orv was in Hospice care during the last six weeks with Mercy Hospice, at his home. His son would like to thank Mercy Hospice for such wonderful job, in which they cared for his father like family. A special thanks to Bill Forrest for all the love and care that he gave to him, visiting him twice a day, every day. A memorial service will be held at Chapel of the Roses, on Harvard, at 4 p.m., on Saturday, January 29, 2005. Nadine Leota Cary
CARY, Nadine Leota — Age 94, passed away on January 18, 2005, at her residence in Sutherlin, Oregon. Nadine was born on January 5, 1911, in Circleville, Kansas, to Jeff and Netty Elizabeth (Johnson) Snyder. On December 9, 1931, Nadine married Orvan Cary in Circleville. In those early years of marriage they farmed in Kansas and then later moved to Bend, Oregon, in 1938, where Nadine worked as a waitress for a number of years. After a few years they moved to Coquille, Oregon, where Nadine worked at a plywood mill. When Nadine retired from the plywood mill they moved to Roseburg. Nadine was affiliated with the First Christian Church in Roseburg for many years. Nadine is survived by her brother, Eldon Snyder and his wife, Evelyn of Corneliuis, Oregon; four grandchildren; six great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. Nadine is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Orvan; son, Francis; sister, Grace; brother, Lewis; and brother, Warren. Nadine's final resting place will be at Roseburg Memorial Gardens on Wednesday, January 26, 2005, at 2 p.m. WILSON'S CHAPEL OF THE ROSES is in charge of arrangements.
Thomas Van Jacobs
JACOBS, Thomas Van — Passed away peacefully in his home Winston, Oregon, on Friday, January 21, 2005. He was born on October 1, 1914, in Hochatown, Oklahoma, to parents, Brasille and Minnie (Rhoden) Jacobs. He moved to Oregon in 1948 where he was employed in the lumber industry until his retirement. He was a member of the Lumber and Sawmill Workers Union, Local 2949. He enjoyed hunting and fishing in his younger years and loved to share those experiences with his family and friends. As he grew older, he enjoyed gardening with his son and daughter. He was preceded in death by both parents, four brothers, two sisters, his loving wife, Letha, and a small granddaughter. He is survived by one brother, Beau Jacobs of Mesquite, Texas; one son, Thomas J. Jacobs and his wife, Cheryl of Glide, Oregon; one daughter, Barbara Bates and her husband, Bob of Winston; a grandson, Shannon Jacobs and his wife, Dana of Springfield, Oregon; two granddaughters, Sandi Mecum and her husband, Les of Roseburg; Jenice Cunningham of Roseburg; great-grandchildren, Jacob V. Lassen of Roseburg; Kira and Brian Jacobs of Springfield, Oregon. He had one special niece, Irene Lee and her husband, Norman of Federal Way, Washington, who never failed to stop and visit with him while in the area. Other survivors include numerous nephews and nieces. He lived and enjoyed all of his 90 years. We will miss his good sense of humor and his boisterous laughter. He will be remembered by all those who loved him. At his request there will be no services. Arrangements are under the direction of Taylor's Family Chapel.
Richard ‘Richie’ Harold Phelps
PHELPS, Richard “Richie” Harold — Age 27, of Roseburg, Oregon, passed away on Saturday, January 22, 2005. He was born on June 18, 1977, in Roseburg, the son of Harold and Sandra (Nerbas) Phelps. Richie was raised and educated in Winston, Oregon, and married the love of his life, Michelle, on February 7, 2004, in Oakland, Oregon. He loved his family very much and enjoyed working, boating, snow boarding and traveling. He was a millwright at Roseburg Forest Products and was highly dedicated and high-spirited on the job, “you could never tell if he was having a bad day”. Everyone who met Richie liked him instantly. He had hundreds of friends that all cherished him as one of their family. He is survived by his wife, Michelle and daughter, Taylor, both of Roseburg; father, Harold of Noti, Oregon; mother, Sandra of Winston; sister, Debra of London, England; and numerous aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his grandparents. Graveside services will be held on Thursday, January 27, 2005, at 2 p.m., at Roseburg Memorial Gardens. There will be a memorial service held on Saturday, January 29, 2005, at 1 p.m. at the Winston VFW. Officiating will be Chaplain John Parker. Friends and family may pay their respects at Taylor’s Family Mortuary on Wednesday, January 26, 2005, with an open casket viewing from 12 p.m. to 3 p.m. and a closed casket visitation from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m.
