Jose Montes Delgado
1930 - 2009
Nyssa - Jose Montes Delgado, 78, was called to his heavenly home by the Lord surrounded by his family on Tuesday, March 17, 2009, in Nyssa.
Jose was born in Naica, Chih., Mexico in 1930, to Jose E. and Teresa Montes Delgado.
As a migrant worker traveling from Arizona, Nevada and Oregon, he settled in Nyssa where he met his wife, Celia Vela. They celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary and renewed their vows in August 2008. They were blessed with six wonderful children, Ernie, Jose, Nena, Terry, Lula and Leticia.
Dad will be fondly remembered for his love of his family, dear friends and attending his grandchildren’s sporting events. Dad was an avid fisherman and golfer in his younger years but gradually turned his focus to supporting the Nyssa Boosters and became his grandchildren’s greatest sports fan.
Although his education was limited in Mexico, he instilled education and work ethics to his family, friends and anyone else that would listen. Dad studied very hard, taking night classes to learn the history of the Untied States, and one of his proudest moments was when he became a U.S. citizen in 1985.
Dad took much pride in his work and dedicated 32 years at Amalgamated Sugar Company.
After retiring in 1995, Dad spent his spare time on the golf course and enjoyed the beauty of his colorful roses, tulips and garden.
Jose was preceded in death by his father, Jose E. Delgado, and five brothers.
Survivors include his loving wife of 50 years, Celia V. Delgado; children, Ernie Delgado, of Hood River, Ore., Jose Luis (Joni) Delgado, Ontario, Luz Elena (Alberto) Escobedo, Nyssa, Terry Delgado, Nyssa, Lula (Kelly) Gonzales, Henderson, Nev., Leticia (Tracy) Vance, Meridian; 13 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; his mother, Teresa Montes, El Paso, Texas; sisters, Dolores, Martha, Hortencia and Rosa; and a brother, Pablo.

Betty ‘Joyce’ Wilcox
Jan. 26, 1931 - Feb. 12, 2010
Vale - Our mom, Joyce Wilcox, received her wish last Friday, Feb. 12, 2010, and went to be with her husband, Charles “Smiley” Wilcox.
Mom was born on Jan. 26, 1931, to Jim and Bess Plummer, in Hardin, Mont. They later moved to Vale.
In Vale, is where she met the love of her life, Smiley Wilcox. They were married on Sept. 11, 1948, while she was still a senior at Vale High. They built a life together building a cow herd of their own. They started in Little Valley, moved to Shoshone, Idaho, and then in 1988 came full circle back to the CloverCreek Ranch in Ironside, Ore. They had lived there when they were first married for five summers. They were both able to live at the ranch until they passed on.
Mom had a great life, she worked very hard, but had a lot of good times. She loved to talk about horses, she loved good jokes and good stories. She was always able to provide some of her own!
Mom is survived by her daughter, Trudie Thawley; her son, Rick, and his wife, Judy. Also the highlights of her life, her grandsons, Jake and Cody Wilcox. As she would often say they could do no wrong! She has two sisters, Mickie Whyman, and Vera Lawrence; brother-in-laws, Jim Wilcox, John and Reme Wilcox, Dave and Merle Wilcox, Jerry and Sylvia Wilcox; and one sister-in-law, Mary Wilcox. She has many nieces and nephews, and many, many, friends.
Mom was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; one sister, and her best friend, Rae Wilcox.
A memorial service will be held at the ranch around the last of March, weather permitting. This is where she wanted to be laid to rest. We will miss you terribly, mom.
