Paula Watts

Paula Watts of Netarts died of natural causes related to multiple sclerosis June 11.

She is survived by her husband of 40 years, Jerry Watts, their son, Adam Watts, and many grandchildren.

Barbara LeeGatha Armitage

Barbara LeeGatha Armitage of Cottage Grove died Sunday at the age of 64.

A funeral is scheduled for Thursday at 1 p.m. at Smith-Lund-Mills Funeral Chapel.

Ivan C. Hoyer

1926-2004

Ivan C. Hoyer, 77, of Cottage Grove, died Sunday from heart failure.

Visitation is Thursday from 3 to 5 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. at Smith-Lund-Mills Funeral Chapel in Cottage Grove.

A funeral is scheduled for Friday at 10 a.m. at Our Lady of Perpetual Help.

Interment will be at Willamette National Cemetery in Portland.

Hoyer was born Nov. 28, 1926, in Battle Creek, Iowa, to Vern and Ella Hoyer.

He moved to Cottage Grove in 1941 and graduated from Cottage Grove High School in 1944.

He graduated from the University of Oregon with degrees in business and broadcasting.

He served in the U.S. Army Air Corps and was stationed in the South Pacific during World War II.

He married June Lee Hughes in Eugene Aug. 14, 1948.

He took over the family accounting firm, Hoyer Accounting, in the early 1970s.

He later sold the firm to his daughter but continued to work there throughout his life.

He also worked as a radio announcer and advertising-sales representative at KNND radio.

He had an entrepreneurial business spirit throughout his life.

He collected stamps, enjoyed traveling, gold mining in the Bohemia Mines, and he was an avid reader.

He was on the board of directors in 1959 of On to Oregon Cavalcade, he served eight years on the Oregon Board of Tax Service Examiners, he was a longtime member of Cottage Grove Rotary, was a member of Bohemia Mine Owners Association, was a member of the Prospectors and Golddiggers and was past president of the Oregon Society of Tax Consultants.

He was named Cottage Grove First Citizen in 1991.

Survivors include daughter and spouse: Karen and Jim Winters of Cottage Grove; sons and spouses: Verne and Linda Hoyer of Brownsville and Gary and Ruby Hoyer of Aloha; Brother: Lowry Hoyer of Aloha; sister: Sharon Bush of Cottage Grove; companion: Bunny Jamison; nine grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.

His wife and daughter, Laura Ann Hoyer, preceded him in death.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Diabetes Association.

Mary Margaret Cox

1913-2004

Mary Margaret Cox, of Yoncalla, died Sunday at the age of 91 from age-related causes.

A private cremation was held.

A service is Thursday at 2 p.m. at Smith-Lund-Mills Funeral Chapel in Cottage Grove.

She was born June 4, 1913, to Alex and Cyrilla Lecluyse in Port Haney, British Columbia.

She married LeRoy Cox Feb. 1, 1940, in Roseburg.

She and her husband lived on the same ranch in Yoncalla for 60 years.

She was a homemaker.

She loved her family, especially her children.

She enjoyed gardening, baking and walking her Boston terrier, Fritzie, daily.

She made denim quilts, enjoyed canning and was an avid apple peeler.

She was a longtime member of the Catholic Church in Drain.

Survivors include her daughter: Nancy Benzel of Yoncalla; daughter and son-in-law: Jeannette and Dale McLeod of Colville, Wash.; granddaughters and spouses: Cindy and Allen Davis of Colville, Wash., Tracy and Shon Inabnit of Arlington, Wash., and Becky and Scott Gerrard of Oakland, Calif.; grandson and wife: Corey and Marita Benzel of Yoncalla; grandson: Scott McLeod of Colville, Wash.; eight great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

Memorial contributions may be made to Douglas County Small Woodlands Association, c/o Smith-Lund-Mills Funeral Chapel, 123 S. Seventh St., Cottage Grove, OR 97424.

William T. Bolin

1917-2004

William T. Bolin, 87, of Cottage Grove, died July 29 from heart failure.

He was born Jan. 29, 1917, to George and Maria Bolin in Pilot Rock.

He married Violet M. Bolin in Carmel, Calif., Oct. 14, 1950.

He formerly lived in Redwood City, Calif., from 1951 to 1968 and Kelseyville, Calif., from 1968 to 1978.

He served in U.S. Navy communications in the South Pacific during World War II.

He worked as a lineman and engineer for Pacific Telephone and Telegraph Co.

He was a sportsman and enjoyed hunting and fishing.

He was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars.

Survivors include his wife; daughters: Christine Flavio of Mountain View, Calif., Marlene Gerboth of Redding, Calif., and Sydney Hunt of Grass Valley, Calif.; five grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

A celebration of life will be announced.

Andreason's Cremation and Burial Service in Eugene was in charge of arrangements.
