Norman "Gene" Borger
1919-2004
Norman "Gene" Borger, 84, of Cottage Grove died from age-related causes July 28.
He was born Aug. 23, 1919, in Fresno, Calif., to Alexander and Anna Borger.
He married Lillian Miller March 20, 1943, in Fresno, Calif.
He was in the 11th Army Horse Calvary and in the U.S. Army Air Force in World War II.
He was part of a family partnership in A Diel Grocery in Fresno's Old Russian Town.
He later owned and operated a liquor store.
He lived most of his life in Fresno, Calif., before moving to Cottage Grove 10 years ago.
He enjoyed old cars, restoring a 1937 Chevy, loved to fish and was renowned for his German sausage, which was a family tradition.
He was always there for his family.
He was a board member of Twilight Haven Convalescent Home in Fresno, Calif., and a member of the Vintage Chevrolet Club of America —Yosemite Chapter.
He was also a South Lane Wheels volunteer.
Survivors include his wife; sons: Kurt Borger of Clovis, Calif., and Dave Borger of Cottage Grove; sister: Frances Hogan of Fresno, Calif.; brother: Tom Borger of Morro Bay, Calif.; and brothers-in-law: Don, Bud and Shannon.
A private gathering will be held at a later date.
Interment was held at Belmont Memorial Park in Fresno, Calif.
Smith-Lund-Mills was in charge of arrangements.
Memorial contributions may be made to Twilight Haven Convalescent Home in Fresno, Calif., or to a charity of choice.
LeRoy Cartwright
1916-2004
LeRoy Cartwright, 88, of Dorena, died July 23 from age-related causes.
He was born July 18, 1916, in Wheaton, Mo.
He completed 10th grade.
He married Ruth Marilyn Pederson in Emmett, Idaho, April 15, 1940.
He worked as a millwright at Bohemia Lumber and also worked at conservation corps camps.
He enjoyed fishing and hunting.
He was a 40-year member of "Mr. and Mrs. League" at Cottage Grove Bowl.
He served on the school board for Dorena School.
Survivors include his sons: Carl Cartwright of Dorena, Robert Cartwright of Alameda, Calif., and Steven Cartwright of Reno, Nev.; daughter: Lisa Tripp of Cheshire; sister: Evelyn of Texas; seven grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
A service and interment was held Friday at Emmett Cemetery in Emmett, Idaho.

Alfred Chambers Jr.
1954-2004
Alfred Richard Chamber Jr., 49, of Cottage Grove, died July 24 from cancer.
He was born Sept. 2, 1954, in Wheeling, W.V., to Alfred and Betty Jean Chambers.
After graduating from high school, he attended one year of college.
He married Georgianna Woolsey in Los Alamitos, Calif., Sept. 7, 1974.
He worked as a meat inspector.
He formerly lived in Graysville and Kirby, Pa.
He enjoyed hunting, gardening and cooking.
Survivors include his wife; sons and spouses: Alfred and Lauren Chamber of Graysville, Pa., Joshua and Pam Chambers of Waynesburg, Pa., and Jared Chambers of Cottage Grove; daughter: Roxanne Chambers of Waynesburg, Pa.: brothers: Mark Chamber of Morgantown, W.V., and Dennis Chambers of Las Vegas, Nev.; sister: Tammy Jean Borda of Paradise, Calif.; caregiver and sister-in-law: Barbara Lawn; and five grandchildren.
A memorial service was held Saturday followed by inurnment.
Andreason's Cremation and Burial Service was in charge of arrangements.
Leo Keechi
1921-2004
Leo Keechi, 83, of Cottage Grove, died July 25 from age-related causes.
He was born June 27, 1921, to Frank and Grace Keechi of Bowden, Okla.
He graduated from college and attended two years of graduate school.
He married Dorothy Ford in Chico, Calif., in 1953.
He formerly lived in Drain and Newberg.
He served in the U.S. Army Air Force during World War II and received a Bronze Star and Silver Star.
He was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars.
He worked as a real estate salesman.
He enjoyed hunting and fishing.
Survivors include his wife; children: Jennifer, Kathy, Melody and Frank; and eight grandchildren.
No service was planned.
