Ray Graves
1936-2004
Ray Graves, 68, a 43-year resident of the Cottage Grove area, died July 14 of congestive heart failure.
He was born Feb. 22, 1936, to Fletcher and Lou Belle Graves of Murphy, N.C.
He completed the 11th grade in Murphy, N.C.
He was married for 49 years to Barbara Allen.
He was a truck driver and also served in the U.S. Army.
He worked as a truck driver at Weyerhaeuser Co. for 27 years.
He enjoyed fishing, hunting and helping his wife with the garden.
He was a member of the Disabled Veterans Association and a member of Calvary Baptist Church.
He recently received an award from Weyerhaeuser for his 27 years of work.
Survivors include daughter: Debbie Fuller of Cottage Grove; son: Jason Allen of Portland; three sisters: Jean McDonald, Joan Dockery and Faye Chastain all of Murphy, N.C.; one brother: Carl Graves of Murphy, N.C.; and three granddaughters: Sydney Allen of Cottage Grove, Kim Smith of Bend and Shanna Antonelli of Cottage Grove.
He was preceded in death by his brother, Howard Graves, and by his parents, Fletcher and Lou Belle Graves.
A service was held Monday at Calvary Baptist Church in Cottage Grove.
Arrangements were under the care of Smith-Lund-Mills Funeral Chapel.
Wayne Andrews
1946-2004
Wayne Andrews, 57, a 30-resident of the Cottage Grove area, died Thursday of Guillain-Barre syndrome.
He was born Aug. 15, 1946, to Edward and Mary Andrews in Santa Maria, Calif.
He grew up in the Kelseyville and Lakeport area of California.
He graduated from Kelseyville High School in 1964.
He attended Bethany Bible College in Santa Cruz, Calif., for two years.
He received a bachelor of science degree from California State University in Chico in Industrial arts and also received a teaching certificate.
He married Kristen Grace Arneson in Lakeport, Calif., Aug. 29, 1970.
He taught at Upper Lake High School in Lake County, Calif., before moving to Cottage Grove in 1974.
He taught auto shop and social studies at Cottage Grove High School from 1974 to 1978.
He was a member of the Cottage Grove-Eugene Sportsmen's Club, the National Rifle Association and Riverside Church of God in Cottage Grove.
Survivors include his wife: Kristen Grace Andrews; daughters and spouses: Kimberly Grace Andrews and Timothy Romanowski of Corvallis and Brooke Elizabeth Andrews of Cottage Grove; three sons: Michael Wayne Andrews and Sean Edward Andrews of Cottage Grove and Kelly Conlin Andrews of Newport; mother: Mary Andrews of Lakeport, Calif.; and two sisters: Rowena Bradley of Kelseyville, Calif., and Joyce Stamps of Willits, Calif.
A visitation was held Sunday at the Smith-Lund-Mills Funeral Chapel.
A service was held Monday at Riverside Church of God in Cottage Grove, followed by interment at Fir Grove Cemetery.

Jayden Alan Sawyer
May 2004-July 2004
Jayden Alan Sawyer of Cottage Grove died July 8 at Sacred Heart Medical Center in Eugene at the age of one month and 15 days from undisclosed causes.
He was born May 23, 2004, to Travis Sawyer and Sabrina Smith.
He came to his family as an angel and left an angel.
Survivors include his parents: Travis Sawyer and Sabrina Smith of Cottage Grove; brother: Jaycen Sawyer of Cottage Grove; and sister: Brianna Fields of San Diego, Calif.
A service was not planned.
Arrangements are under the care of Smith-Lund-Mills Funeral Chapel.
Memorial contributions may be made to the ICI Neonatal Unit at Sacred Heart Medical Center in Eugene.
Jesse Fortier
1950-2004
Jesse Fortier, also known as Jessie Savage, died the week of the Fourth of July from unknown causes.
A celebration of life is scheduled Thursday at 7 p.m. at the Pastoral Care Services room at Sacred Heart Medical Center in Eugene.
Guests should bring a picture of Jesse.
Fortier was born May 26, 1950, in Presque Isle, Maine, to Anne Florence Savage and Thomas Fortier.
She graduated from high school in Bangor, Maine.
She lived in Cottage Grove for 15 years and moved to Eugene in the early 1980s.
She earned certificates in NIASE automotive training and her CNA license.
She went to college and earned a bachelor of science degree in human services from the University of Oregon.
She lived in Seattle, Wash., from 1992 to 2001.
She received a master's degree in social work in 1994 from the University of Washington.
She worked at Seattle Emergency Housing Service, Seattle Counseling for Sexual Minorities and served on the Board of Directors of Hepatitis Education Project.
She facilitated Women in Sobriety meetings and organized anti-racism and working class empowerment workshops.
Survivors include her partner of 14 years, friends and family, all who mostly reside in Maine.
She is preceded in death by her parents and many loving cats.
Carol Joan Sunkler
1936-2004
Carol Joan Sunkler, 67, of Monroe died July 8 at Samaritan Heart of the Valley Hospital in Corvallis.
A memorial service will be held July 25 at 4 p.m. at Creswell Church of Christ, 410 Holbrook Lane in Creswell.
She was born in Los Angeles, Calif., Nov. 7, 1936, to Warren and Joan Vaughn.
She married Wilbur Louis Sunkler Feb. 14, 1959, in Los Angeles, Calif.
She lived in Prineville in 1962, Creswell from 1963 to 1965, in Glide in 1965, Wistlerbend in 1966, Dixonville from 1967 to 1968, Roseburg from 1969 to 1974, Cottage Grove from 1974 to 1999 and Monroe from 1999 to 2004.
She was a homemaker and a member of the Suburban Christian Church.
Survivors include sisters: Alice Lorimer and Edith Wolff; children: Howard, Michael, Julia and William (Butch) Sunkler.
