Cooper Alexander Lewis
"A time of sharing" memorial for Cooper will be held at 12:30 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 25, 2003, in upper Lithia Park. He was born in Marin County, Calif. on Oct. 29, 1965. At the age of 37, on Jan. 16, 2003, his congenitally-impaired heart failed.
He attended Briscoe and Ashland Junior and Senior High Schools. For several seasons he performed a variety of roles with the Oregon Shakespeare Festival and founded "The Black Cygnets", a children's performing art troop. He was awarded a scholarship to a summer session of the noted Minneapolis Children's Theater.
In 1986, with his brother and sister, he opened the China Pepper Restaurant in Sun Valley in partnership with Beasy McMillan. Throughout his education for and work in the graphic arts field, he continued to be involved in restaurant work.
Following a trip to Europe in 1989, he concentrated on developing his artistic skills and attended Kodak's Palm Beach Workshops studying advanced digital imaging.
Prior to establishing his own freelance business, he was art director for Satory, Mathis and Beedle Advertising Agency as well as Palm Beach and Hamptons Magazines.
He exhibited fine art images at West End Arts in West Palm Beach, Fla.
Most recently, he combined this graphic art and restaurant experience in helping to open a new Ashland establishment.
He is survived by his father, Geoffrey and brother, Prescott of Ashland; mother, Patricia of Novato, Calif.; brother Courtney of Cotati, Calif.; sister, Paulette and brother-in-law Michael; nephew, Austen; niece, Ali Butler of Hailey, Idaho; and special friend, Joanne Mann of West Palm Beach, Fla.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Cooper Lewis Memorial, Parks and Recreation Department, 340 S. Pioneer St., Ashland, Ore. 97520.
Rose Martha Gearheard
A memorial graveside service for Rose Martha Gearheard will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, Jan. 24, 2003, at the Eagle Point National Cemetery, Eagle Point. Officiating will be Pastor Bob Huntoon of the Valley Bible Fellowship, Talent.
Mrs. Gearheard, 60, of Talent, died Monday, Jan. 20, 2003, at the Ashland Community Hospital.
She was born May 9, 1942 at Abbington, Penn., the daughter of Rose and Herbert Hellyer. She was raised in Pennsylvania and lived in California and Michigan before moving to the Rogue Valley in 1988. On Nov. 3, 1992 at Gold Hill, she married Charles Gearheard who preceded her in death.
Mrs. Gearheard worked as the head housekeeper at the Mark Anthony Hotel in Ashland for several years. She enjoyed crafts, knitting and her grandchildren.
Surviving are two daughters, Tina Richards of Talent and Dierdra Vertichio of Chatsworth, Calif.; two sons, James Bohannon and Kenneth Bohannon both of California; one brother, Herbert Hellyer of Talent and 15 grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one brother. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Litwiller-Simonsen Funeral Home and Crematory, Ashland.
Christine V. Brewer
Christine V. Brewer died peacefully Jan. 14, 2003 at her home in Ashland with family and friends near.
Christine lived her life with grace, wisdom, humor and kindness. She devoted herself with great enthusiasm to her family, friends, work and church. She created inviting homes and spectacular gardens everywhere she lived.
Christine was born Oct. 7, 1910 in Minnesota to Maria and Luca Devich, and married Everett Brewer in San Jose, Calif. in 1934. They moved to Ashland in 1990. Everett passed away in 1993. Her children, Jim Brewer of Redding, Calif., Karen O'Rourke and her husband Tom, and Susanne Powell and her husband Mark, all of Ashland have been forever blessed by her tender love and fierce pride.
Also surviving are a brother, Bill Devich, a sister, Sr. Pierre Eymard, O.P., nine grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren and numerous cousins, nephews and nieces, all to whom she was the beloved matriarch.
Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 25, 2003, at Our Lady of the Mountain Catholic Church, Ashland.
Catherine Connor
A memorial mass will be held for Catherine Connor at 8 a.m. Monday, Jan. 27, 2003, at Our Lady of the Mountain Catholic Church, Ashland. Mrs. Connor, 95, of Ashland, died Tuesday, Jan. 21, 2003, at the Linda Vista Care Center, Ashland. Internment will be Mountain View Cemetery, Ashland.
Mrs. Connor was born Dec. 5, 1907 at Fresno, Calif., the daughter of Anna and John Clinton. On Aug. 28, 1925 at Needles, Calif., she married Leo J. Connor who preceded her in death in 1984. Mr. and Mrs. Connor moved to Ashland in 1945. She was a member of Our Lady of the Mountain Catholic Church, Ashland.
Surviving are: one son, Leo J. Connor of Portland; one daughter, Mary M. Galati of Ashland; seven grandchildren; and nine great grandchildren.

John H. Lewis
Private family services are planned for John Henry Lewis, 79, of Ashland, who died Monday, Jan. 20, 2003 at Providence Medford Medical Center.
He was born Oct. 10, 1923 at Hueysville, Ky., the son of Zetta and John Lewis. Mr. Lewis was raised in Kentucky and joined the Army in 1942. He served a total of 22 years. During his military career, he served in Word War II, the Korean Conflict and was recalled to serve in the Vietnam War. He was trapped behind enemy lines and received several military honors.
On July 14, 1950, at Spanaway Park, Wash., he married Lorraine Elizabeth Ellis who preceded him in death. They moved to Ashland in 1984 and Mr. Lewis worked for the Linda Vista Care Center as a maintenance supervisor. During his wife's extended illness, he provided full time health care until her death.
He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and enjoyed fishing and gardening.
Surviving are: two sons, Joseph K. Lewis and Verin Lewis both of Ashland; two grandchildren; and one great grandchild. He was preceded in death by one brother and three sisters.

John Holmes Pine
Former Talent resident John Holmes Pine died Tuesday, Jan. 1, 2003 in Corvallis. He was 55.
Friends will gather for a remembrance at 6 tonight at 1388 Frank Hill Rd. in Ashland. No funeral services are planned.
Mr. Pine was born Sept. 25, 1947 in Danville, Ill. to Ted and Jean (Holmes) Pine.
He served in the U.S. Navy from 1965-69. He was an avid golfer and during high school was an excellent tennis player, competing in the Ohio State Tournament as a semi-finalist.
Mr. Pine worked on ocean-going tug boats, working up to a captain before retiring and attending Southern Oregon University and graduating. He also served on the Talent Planning Commission. He moved to Corvallis where he worked at OSU as a graduate assistant and attended post-graduate school.
Survivors include his parents of Montclair, N.J.; and brothers Phillip of Flower Mound, Texas and Theodore of Norwich, Vt.
Arrangements are in care of DeMoss Durdan Funeral Home, Corvallis.
